Kid Rock is back to his bad boy antics again; drops out of music festival

How does Kid Rock still have a career? Who is buying his music? Someone please explain this to me. The middle-aged rapper/rocker was supposed to co-headline the Download Music Festival in June, but pulled out at the last minute. Rock (aka Bob Ritchie) was unimpressed with the conditions backstage, and when the show organizers refused to suplly food and drinks for his crew, he hit the road- but not before leaving a lovely parting gift for the festival’s promoter.

CHART-topping hip-hop rocker Kid Rock has revealed the reason he pulled out of this year’s Download Festival – they didn’t give him a big enough caravan.

In June organisers of the hard rock festival released a statement claiming he would not be playing after being rushed to hospital.

But Kid, 37, says that he wasn’t ill. He told me: “They treated me like f***. There was just one trailer for my whole band. We had no water, no bathroom, no rider.

“The final straw was when they wouldn’t give my crew any food or drinks vouchers.

“I called the promoter and told him he had two hours to get it sorted or I was out. They did nothing so I visited the promoter’s office, took a piss on his couch and left.”

With one of their headliners gone organisers released a statement that read: “We’ve had the curse of Download.

“Kid Rock is not very well, we’ve had to rush him to hospital in Nottingham. He apologises to his fans.”

But the All Summer Long hitmaker told me: “I was wandering the streets in Birmingham, trying to find a good movie to watch.”

Kid has vowed never to play Donnington again. He said: “I’d like to do something like Glastonbury instead next year. That has a much better vibe.”

[From the Daily Star]

I should point at that Glastonbury was the festival where Amy Winehouse showed up smashed out of her mind and was punching fans. So, yeah, I’m sure that “vibe” fits right in with Rock and his crew. He didn’t get a big enough trailer. Boo hoo. Tell that to some kid playing his heart out to 7 people in a rat-infested dive bar in middle America. As for Kid’s retaliation tactics, need I remind everyone that the guy is 38 years old? I really think being a rock star enables some people to remain 10 years old forever.

Note by Celebitchy: I really like Kid Rock’s new single, All Summer Long. And I don’t really agree with MSat that it’s diva-ish to request a decent trailer with water, a toilet and catering. But if this story is true he shouldn’t have lied and said he’s sick, and if did pee on someone’s couch that’s out of hand.

Here’s the All Summer Long video.

  1. Uh. A rider is pretty basic.Providing some food at least should be standard.Sounds like someone messed up. Still doesn’t sanction pissing on a couch. That’s what someone mentally ill might do.

This reminds me of a story Henry Rollins had about Trent Reznor (it was in Rollins’ book ‘Do I Come Here Often?’) Rollins was appalled the guys (not sure which one) left their trailer toilet full of crap and did some heinous things to their trailer; then he later heard them laughing about it and the poor bastard who had to clean it up. Nasty. Since that I thought those guys were total dicks.

  2. That necklace looks like something I’d get in the craft aisle at JoAnn’s Fabrics.

  3. It does sound like a sort of low-rent way to treat performers, although peeing on a couch isn’t the best possible way to react. They’ll have to throw the couch out, that’ll never clean up!

I like him, though. Just can’t help myself.

  6. No, I haven’t, Daisy - but I’ll look for it when I’m at home tonight with a computer that actually has speakers on it.

  7. @ daisy: No, I didn’t see that, but would like to…. :D

I agree that #1: Peeing on someone’s couch is immature and gross
    #2: I like him–don’t know why, either!

At least in these photos, he looks like he’s recently showered and wearing clean clothes.

  8. Don’t anyone jump on me please….
He was on FOX . O’Reilly’s Patriots/Pinhead segment last night.

    Here is the transcript;
KID ROCK, SINGER: Let me tell you what I’m good at. I’m good at writing songs and singing. What I’m not educated in is the field of political science. As soon as someone comes out for a politician, especially in Hollywood, and says, “I’m voting for this guy, I’m voting for this guy,” that’s who I’m not voting for.”

I give him credit for thinking for himself.

  9. I LOVE Kid Rock. He’s a redneck and proud of it, and for that he’ll always have my admiration. And I agree with the others who think he was treated like crap, but also agree that he shouldn’t have whizzed on the couch. But then again, the qualities we like about him are the same ones that prompted him to commit the questionable act …

  13. I hate him. He tries to pass himself off as being from “Northern Michigan” when he’s from Romeo, which is more like northern Detroit. I’m with you, Celebitchy writer, I don’t know why this dude is famous. And his song is a ripoff of Sweet Home Alabama. If the tune wasn’t familiar it wouldn’t have gotten any airtime.

  14. Whadya mean back ? When did he ever quit? He’s the whigger poster child.

  15. I never heard that he tried to pass himself off as being from northern Michigan. Everything I’ve ever read states clearly that he grew up in the Detroit area.

I don’t really think he’d lie about something so unimportant. He’s too much of an “in your face” sort of guy.

  16. Justin Timberlake and Kevin Federline are whiggers. Just because Kid combines Hip Hop elements into his sound (along with southern/country rock), he most certainly isn’t a wannabe. In fact, he’s one of the first (if not the first) artist to do this successfully. And he makes no secret of his admiration for classic country greats like Hank Williams (Senior and Junior), Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, etc. Plus, he’s admits he’s not from the ‘hood, so to speak:

“I’m not straight out of Compton, I’m straight out the trailer.”

Can’t believe I wrote all that in defense of Kid Rock, but dammit, I think he kicks ass.
