Bryan Adams says ‘Summer of 69′ is about ‘making love in the Summertime’

Rocker Bryan Adams was on the CBS Early show and was asked about his 1984 hit classic “Summer of 69.” Adams admitted that the song was about sex, and said “A lot of people think it’s about the year, but actually it’s more about making love in the Summertime. It uses 69 as a sexual reference.”

Adams is 48 and was born in 1959 so in 1969 he would have been under 10 and too young to be reminiscing about playing guitar, being in a band and meeting a girl at a drive in that year. Instead he’s referencing some later summer, probably in the late 70s. The “Summer of 77″ just doesn’t have the same ring to it.

I remember when someone told me “Rocking Robin” was about sex, I was all “huh?” The “Summer of 69″ just makes sense, though.

Adams still looks great and he’s got a new album out. 11 debuted at number one in his native Canada when it was released on March 17 of this year. It came out in May in the US but is only being sold at Walmart and Sam’s Club and peaked at just 80 on the charts.

Here’s the video for “Summer of ’69″

And here’s Adams’ latest single, “I’d Thought I’d Seen Everything.” Some call this guy cheesy, but this is a solid song.

Dunno if Rockin’ Robin the song is about sex, I heard it was about a DJ, but the term Rock n Roll refers to the sex act.

    Revealed Blind Item I found:

Male rock star. I want to say 5 number one hits, but Google says 6. He’s a solo act.

In a hotel elevator after a concert groupies are pressing items to be signed into the elevator where the singer is. A woman in her 70′s is on the elevator and a hotel guest and the singer’s manager.

The woman in her 70′s has no idea what’s going on. The girls are screaming and trying to claw their way to the elevator.

The singer grabs his crotch and says, “Yeah girls want some of that don’t ya?” and then turns to the woman in her 70′s and says “I bet you could use some too huh?”

By this time the singer has accumulated a handful of Sharpie pens and begins to throw them out the elevator and the girls go scrambling for them, falling down as they do so.

The manager hits the “close” button on the elevator. The singer reaches over and pushes the door “open” button and says……”Not so fast..I love to watch them crawl. It’s right where they belong”

And then he lets the elevator door close.

    My birthday is 6/9/69.

This is one of those oh-so-very-rare times that I can mention my kinky birthday as part of a related topic being discussed! And, this type birthdate happens once a century.

Anyway, it’s double freaky kinky since my sign of Gemini also LOOKS like a 6 and a 9!

@ Gracie if that’s true- gross. I hope Mrs. Old School in the elevator smacked the crap out of him. I would- at any age.
Remember news a year ago when Lindsay Lohan cut her leg or somethign while staying at his house? What a random thing. Like how those two know each other.

Got my first real six-string, boy at the five and dime. Played it till my fingers bled. It was the summer of 69….

Wow, even Freud couldn’t penetrate the fog of subtlety around those lyrics. Song sounds like it’s about music, friends and memories to me.

I’m really starting to dislike Bryan Adams.

My image of him was tarnished when I heard “Run to You”—horrible, nasty, mean, abhorrent song. I would have castrated his ass if I was his “woman” in question after hearing that song.

I don’t know. Up until I heard that song, I always pictured him as the guy who sang my parents’ wedding song…and it was just such a sweet song, and then I find out he’s kind of a skeeve, and the revelation just shatters me!

    I’m a dork, I know…

Thanks for that. For some reason I have always hated him, and his cr***y lyrics. My alltime favourite that immediately upon hearing makes me sick, is the line “when I see the unborn children in your eyes”. Don’t know which song it’s from, and don’t need to know. I just love to hate him
