Katie Holmes loves scrapbooking, sent books to Beckhams, Smiths

For all the stories that make Katie Holmes seem like a privileged ultra-rich shopaholic with a taste for designer high-end goods, there’s one that makes her sound like a normal mom with a crafting addiction. Holmes is said to love scrapbooking and to have devoted an entire room in her house to her hobby. As a woman of extremely above-average means, she also spends about $3,000 a month on the raw materials that help her preserve her family’s memories in style. She has also made gifts for her celebrity friends including the Beckhams, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, her co-stars in “All My Sons,” and even her husband’s ex wife, Nicole Kidman.

Katie Holmes has become a scrapbooking addict – and she’s dedicated an entire room in her $35 million Beverly Hills mansion to her new hobby, sources say.

“Katie’s always been artistic, making homemade cards for friends, and sketching designs for clothes,” a close friend confided to The Enquirer.

“Her mom turned her on to scrapbooking, and now she spends more than $3,000 a month on scrapbook materials! Her scrapbooking room is incredibly elaborate with ribbons, labels, decals and paper meticiously organized on beams that run from one wall to another…

She put together a gift scrapbook for close pals Victoria and David Beckham to commemorate their first year in the US, said the source.

Since then she’s made books for her husband Tom Cruise’s mother and sister, their close friends Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, and she’s already working on books for her co-stars in the upcoming Broadway play “All My Sons”…

Katie spends hours scrapbooking with her 2 year-old daughter Suri – and helped her stepdaughter Isabella, 15, make a scrapbook for her mom, Nicole Kidman… and [her] new daughter, said the source.

“Bella wanted baby Sunday to have a keepsake with pictures and mementos from her life and her brother Connor’s life,” said the source.

You could see Katie doing this. On the Oprah special Tom said she was into baked goods and stocking the house with cupcakes despite the fact that she probably never even bites into one.

3k a month sounds like a lot of cash for scrapbooking, but some of the little paper stickers can run $5 and up and it really adds up if you want to make elaborate books. If this is true it’s very thoughtful of her to make handcrafts for people and it sounds like a great way to get little Suri into art at a young age.

If you’re interested in scrapbooking, there are some beautiful user-submitted galleries of scrapbooks along with the supplies used to create them, at scrapbook.com. People have also put up photos of the rooms they use to scrapbook. It looks like a very creative outlet. For once I’m not hating on Katie Holmes – what’s wrong with me?

“For once I’m not hating on Katie Holmes – what’s wrong with me?”, nothings wrong with you CB, I feel that way also after reading this. Hmmmm.
I think it is great that she takes the time and gives hand made gifts when she could easily just buy and send.
It means more to give your time, and it’s a great creative outlet.

It reminds me of Citizen Kane’s wife, alone in that cavernous mansion, putting together her puzzles.

I mean, scrapbooking is fine – cool, even. But still, would you want KatE’s life?

  3. Obvious says:

You know,I have never hated Kaite Holmes. I beleive she got in over her head and doesn’t know how to get out.

However I wonder how long it will be before she “does something wrong” and gets her scrapbooking room taken away from her.

I don’t know, maybe if she looked happier and not so lifeless and drained so much of the time, this would be nice, but it just comes across as lonely and sad somehow. I’d much prefer to read that she sits around for hours with her girlfriends in a really messy house, drinking beer and making fun of Tom.

  5. daisy424 says:

Geronimo, we’re the ones sitting around drinking beer and making fun of Tommy Girl 😀

  6. geronimo says:

😀 Daisy! And we do it so well.

I just don’t get any real ‘happy’ from her. More quiet, barely-controlled desperation.

Maybe if that scrap book room had a lock on the door and some big girl toys she’d look a little rosier.

  8. Hollz says:

my mom and I scrapbook all the time- she’s prolly spent 3k on it- over the past year or two…and while we don’t have a specifically dedicated room for it- the spare bedroom is certainly full of our stuff!

Nothing wrong with you CB. After all, ask yourself what wrong she has ever done. I never get it when people strenously defend people who have hurt others and yet comfortable to hate on an innocent person who has never hurt anyone. There are few nice people in this world. I made a mental note never to hate on nice people. She may appear miserable to some but when she was always happy, it was said that she was brainwashed. She deserves a break.

  10. Bodhi says:

I’ve never understood the appeal of scrap-booking. But if I had it, I could totally blow that much money on yarn!

But I still can’t stand her. I’ve disliked for years, ever since the first episode of Dawson’s

  11. Chun Li says:

Nice to see a positive story about Holmes/Cruise that didn’t somehow twist into the Scientology issue.

I think the “religion” is weird, but I also think they get way to much hate for it.

  12. Kelly says:

Sounds like a nice little fairytale to make Katie seem like the mom-next-door. Probably has about as much truth to it as any urban legend.

  13. Jenny says:

    Sad little thing. Poor Katie.

  14. Erica says:

It’s fairly common for the rich to have scrapbooking rooms. Seen it and it’s so odd.

  15. Em says:

Wow, Good for Kattie. I am a scrapbooking addict. I am not rich, I am not poor but I scrap and believe everyone should try it. even a simple photo album with journaling to share the moment and how you felt is better than not. I do have a room dedicated to scrapbooking and it is my sanctuary. I have persevered our family memories as a work of art. So you go girl Scrap your life for your family to enjoy for years to come.

  16. Sofia says:

How would you like being photographed every waking minute? Critisized for every bad hair day or shoe choice? You’d stop smiling eventually too doncha think?

  17. anti-tox says:

🙄 Think of the child.. don’t leave these scrapebooks to her to have to tend to … argh 😡

  18. Jeanne says:

What a cutie that Suri is, she way than makes up for her mama’s dour expression.

  19. stephanie says:

Leave Katie alone !! If she likes to scrapbook that’s cool, I wouldn’t mind hanging out with her and scrapbooking. Its not hard to spend 3,000 a month on it. I have my own scrapping room too.

  20. JUJU says:

Scrapbooking is awesome, more power to her. Don’t judge!

  21. vdantev says:

Judging enables intelligent people to determine a wise investment of time and energy, from the totally lame and stupid.

  22. Mariann says:

Way to go, Katie! Scrapbooking is a great creative outlet and I am sure she needs one depite her money…..Now if she could just get rid of that freak of a husband and his creepy religion!!!

  23. Jennifer says:

I’d LOVE to see her scrapbook room. I’m sure it would put mine to shame.

  24. Antonia B.D. says:

I think it’s really nice. I actually like Katie. She is a marathon runner, used to be Catholic but now is Scientologist because of her new husband, and now she scrapbooks? She seems like a cool person. Does she seem like a bad Mom to you? Not at all to me. When you think of Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, and then say she’s bad… you’re just putting yourself to shame. And I would love to spend 3,000 dollars a month on scrappin supplies. I spend something like 20…
