Kristen Stewart officially cast as the eye-rolling, mouth-breathing Snow White

wenn5434203

A few months ago, I wrote about how Kristen Stewart had emerged as the frontrunner for the “Snow White” role in Snow White and the Huntsman. It’s going to be one of those live-action “reboot/re-telling” deals, where I suppose Hollywood is going to “reimagine” one of the classic fairy tales. “Reimagine” is another way of saying “raping the stories you loved as a child.” Anyway, when I wrote about it before, Kristen was far from confirmed, she was merely one actress out of several who were auditioning. In the past few days, though, things have changed. One of the film’s producers began tweeting about how K-Stew “officially” had the role, and that they were in “final negotiations” this week. Deadline hopped on board too:

Deadline was first to tell you in January that despite Universal Pictures’ testing of young actresses, Twilight Saga’s Kristen Stewart had materialized as a likely candidate to play the lead role in the Rupert Sanders-directed Snow White and the Hunstman. Now, Palek Patel, who’s producing with Joe Roth, has tweeted that she’s in final negotiations to star with Charlize Theron and Viggo Mortensen in the rebooted fairy tale that’s going head to head with Relativity Media’s The Brothers Grimm: Snow White, which will star Julia Roberts. Gersh-repped Stewart will complete production on the final Twilight installment at the end of April, and will shoot Snow White in August.

[From Deadline]

So… Kristen Stewart is officially your new lip-biting, mouth-breathing, bad-postured, eye-rolling, monotone, angsty Snow White. Look, I know Team K-Stew is going to be in here, yelling at me, and that’s fine. Let me say that I don’t really hate the girl. I think she’s really immature and that she should get a major grip and start acting like a professional, but I have no problem with her being considered “A-List”. For now. Because this too shall pass! Once the Twilight movies are over and this Snow White movie comes out, people will begin to realize that Kristen isn’t all that. Her fanbase will grow out of her, and Hollywood will get tired of her “Method”: lip-biting, mouth-breathing and eye-rolling, in between dialogue mumbled in a monotone.

Thanks to Agent Bedhead for the heads up!

  1. She reminds me of this really awkward burn-out I knew back in high school.

  2. Chris says:

Is she capable of standing normal without making weird expressions?
Her “I’m too good for you”-shtick is ridiculous and I don’t give a damn when her fans start threatening me and calling me a hater.
    She can’t act.

  3. Randiriel says:

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! This
role should have gone to Alexis BLEDEL. Nothing against Kristen but Alexis is the epitomy of Snowhite and she looks as young as Kristen. C’me ooonnn.. what a disappointment 🙁

  4. Kaye says:

I’ve not seen the Twilight movies, but she was good as Joan Jett.

Let’s not forget she was very young when this all began and obviously uncomfortable with the onslaught of fame. Lately she’s seemed more self possessed, IMO.

  5. Violet says:

see now i might have watched this movie had someone appropriate been cast but she could not be less suited to this role. how depressing.

  6. Addie says:

Reading the story while growing up, I have personally never pictured Snow White to be ANYTHING like this one.

Really bad move by producers. What a shame too, the others cast seem really good to watch.

  7. Chris says:

There will be 3 versions of Snow White all coming next year. This one will flop since the eyerolling “actress” is box office poison.

  8. MarenGermany says:

i didnt watch the twilight-movies either, but i liked her in panic room.
she comes across as someone who is bored with the glitz-glam world and i like that. refreshing.
plus, she wears cool clothes (private, not red carpet) and mostly sneakers.
    she seems to be cool.
    i cant hate on her.

  9. Tigger says:

That was harsh. Don’t get me wrong she annoys the hell out of me too. There’s no saying that the only reason she was hired was to bring in the Twilight audience. This film will flop. Fuck Hollywood and their unimaginative re-telling of fairytales. Is no one original anymore?

  10. Hautie says:

Is she a smoker? Look at her fingers on her right hand in that last picture. They are as stained as Charlie Sheen’s. Whom of course are severally cigarette stained. Ugh.

Though, I am more interested in knowing who exactly Julia Roberts will be playing in this movie.

Snow White’s Mother? Or maybe the wicked witch with the apple? 🙂

  11. Paulina says:

The Krisbian army will arrive in 3 2 1 … and attack. Be prepared to critisize their Precious.

By the way she dresses like a punk emo hipster musician. What woman wants to look like that?

  12. Angb says:

I think Kristen is gorgeous and I love how honest she is in her interviews. She’s probably the only female celeb that isn’t afraid to act like herself and go out without makeup in everyday clothes. Hate you for hating on her.

  13. Selita says:

Oh goodie:( 3 snow white flicks n one year! Hollyweird!

  14. samihami says:

I have no strong feelings about her either way. But isn’t Snow White supposed to be the “fairest of them all?” While KS isn’t ugly, she is farrrrrr from being the “fairest of them all.” This is role that should have gone to someone with a more classically beautiful look. I don’t think “grunge” Snow White will work very well.

  15. Stephanie says:

    Oh fuck no.

  16. TXCinderella says:

I am a Twilight fan, but I do not care for Kristen Stewart. She is a terrible actress, and it seems like she is playing herself in every movie I have seen her in. So boring. I agree with everything Kaiser says here.

  17. you ass says:

she is the best thou u prefer stupid bimbos and whores with fake boobs, ass, eaven fake lifes!idiots! KStew is real beauty, smart and funny !KStew rocks!

  18. echolocate says:

Hautie, I noticed the stained fingers too. Are those the usual fingers that get stained from smoking? Or is she a Cheeto fan?

I’ll give her a break. I’d be way more interested in a Snow White movie that has Charlize and Viggo in it than one with stupid Julia Roberts. Kristen Stewart seems miscast, but maybe they’re aiming for an angsty Snow White. It sounds like something that will have more artistic merit and be less typical.

Please tell me Julia Roberts is not trying to pull off the role of Snow White in the other movie. Because I could easily see her insisting on such a thing, as she fancies herself as “America’s Sweetheart,” despite her well-established unpleasant personality.

  19. Marc says:

I can’t believe that she is still an actress and still makes a lot of $$$. She has only one face expression. Like she has never ending obstipation. Gurl buy some laxative.

  20. Tiffany says:

@ Kaiser. Great header pic for the story. HAHAHAHAHA. Were was I, yeah, when you do these kind of reboots you need to cast a unknown and promote it from within. Do the producers really think parents are going to pay for with still 2 more Twilight films coming out. Fail producers Fail.

  21. Paulina says:

I love your hate for us haters.

There’s nothing smart in anything she says. I can’t understand half of her talk since she can’t finish a sentence without a f-bomb.
Playing an angsty miserable rude character for the hundredth time by this plain brat is not artistic it’s an opportunistic attempt of the studio to get the Twilight crowd to watch it.

She isn’t a rebel nor honest. She has a make-up artist, hair dresser, a PR team better than Brangelina, and Hollywood parents. She is the cliche she critisizes others to be.

  22. tapioca says:

I take it Julia Roberts will be the evil Queen in the other version? But yeah, this is one film I’ll be avoiding like the plague. They should have picked Mila Kunis – She’s got the pocket-sized fairytale princess look all locked up and is actually likeable.

  23. gobo says:

I like that she chooses unusual dresses. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t but at least she takes a chance.

  24. KJ says:

I honestly do not get her appeal beyond Twilight (and I certainly don’t get the appeal of those poorly written teen romance novels). I just don’t get how Hollywood works sometimes. How do they decide that certain people have the “it” factor and start shoving them down our throats? Maybe the suits know something I don’t because she’s a pretty mediocre actress, has very little range, is NOT pretty (she looks inbred, if you ask me), and has very little appeal beyond teen angst. This is why movies are doing so poorly. Hollywood keeps trying to tell us what we like instead of give us what we like. Here’s a thought: Snow White shouldn’t be “re-imagined” unless you’re going to blow my mind, which I KNOW you aren’t, and Kristen Stewart shouldn’t be considered an A-list actress unless a jumbo jet with Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron and other actual A-list actresses blows up in mid air.

  25. echolocate says:

I do think, when I see these photos, of my mother when I was a teenager saying, “Honey, you look prettier when you smile!”

I’m okay with her not smiling, but the compromises she’s struck in these photos aren’t working, either.

Edited to say that both Alexis Bledel and Mila Kunis make more sense, which gives credence to Paulina’s comment about cynical casting to bring in the Twilight crowd. But I do like Viggo.

  26. Jem says:

@Kaiser, she’s actually pretty solid in her smaller indie films. She was really good in The Cake Eaters and The Yellow Handkerchief. She’s not that bad of an actress. She does need to grow up, but her longevity in the business might be better than you think

  27. Tess says:

After a few more bags of cheetos she’d look right at home in any old double-wide, anywhere.

  28. emmy415 says:

Paulina, when insulting someone (esp their “smarts”), it is more effective when you spell properly. criticize not critisize

  29. guesty says:

I’ve never seen any of the Twilight movies so I can’t have an opinion on her acting soooo I’m gonna see this just cuz it’s a classic.

  30. Andrea says:

I hope this means that she won’t be in the Superman movie with my husband (I wish) Henry Cavill. I can’t imagine those 2 together. She’s so duh…and he’s so….I’d better not, it’s still too early on a Monday morning.

  31. jackie says:

saw her in The Runaways. She seemed pretty talented and weren’t the reviews decent? Seems like she is still considered talented by the folks in hollywood since walter salles hired her for some film recently.

  32. eja102 says:

    that last picture is priceless.

  33. Jill says:

Of course she is immature to you all – she’s only 19 or something. Give her a couple of years to be humbled by life before taking out the talons. At least she doesn’t overexpose us with her presence ALL THE TIME like some of the Hollywood actors these days…well, at least not on purpose!

  34. mia girl says:

I don’t mind her. I thought she was good in Adventureland and Cake Eaters. I get why all the hating I suppose…

@Kaiser In terms of needing to act “professional” I am guessing you mean playing the pr/publicist game in interviews (because all the directors she works with gush about her, I’ve never heard of her being a diva on set, in fact it seems she very much a team player). Ehh, really dont mind her interviews either…

I’m kind of tired of all the fake interview stuff most actors can so professionally convey. It reminds me of the movie Bull Durham were Costner’s character tries to teach Tim Robbins’ character how to speak interview generalities, platitudes and statements that seem heartfelt but mean nothing… “The Good lord willing…” and then at the end of the movie, he’s a master at it. Ha!

  35. xxodettexx says:

having never watched a twilight movie i cannot comment on her acting in that movie but in the indies i have seen her act in, i like her… maybe bc her acting is so sullen and understated and yes, maybe bc she is typecasted for her perfect moody, angsty vibe

i do feel like hollywood is slowly raping all my childhood classics in a last ditch attempt to revitalize itself instead of investing in new writers and fresh material… grrr

oh well, i guess i will find out how it turns out when i read the recap on here and the bitchy comments! 🙂

  36. Cherry Rose says:

How could anyone have liked her in The Runaways? Kristen was flat the whole way through. The only thing that made the movie decent was Dakota Fanning.

And she’s probably going to make a terrible Snow White.

  37. DGR says:

I guess every fairy tale is now getting a Twilight-ish treatment. First Catherine Hardwicke directs ‘Red Riding Hood,’ Kristin Stewart is now Snow White. I guess the next project the studios can focus on is Robert Pattinson as the Pied Piper of Hamelin, but instead of leadings rats out of town, he lures all the Twihards and annoying Bieber fans away.

  38. S says:

    Odd choice for Snow White.

  39. Stephy2585 says:

The only movie I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this girl in was The Runaways…
    Everything else….was there anything else?
I kinda always thought it was just one big long movie since she acts the same in ALL of them.
    She’s definitely a single faceted, non-dynamic actress.
Having said that, I find her interesting to watch and will probably watch the movie.

  40. Alice says:

Is it possible to sue the director/casting director to change their mind?

  41. hairball says:

“I have no problem with her being considered “A-List”. For now. Because this too shall pass! Once the Twilight movies are over and this Snow White movie comes out, people will begin to realize that Kristen isn’t all that. Her fanbase will grow out of her, and Hollywood will get tired of her “Method”: lip-biting, mouth-breathing and eye-rolling, in between dialogue mumbled in a monotone.”

    Agree!!

  42. DetRiotgirl says:

Well, when my eyes first ran over the idea of K-Stew as Snow White, my immediate reaction was “NOOOOOOO!!!”. But, then I saw that little blurb about the other Snow White movie starring Julia Roberts. JULIA ROBERTS?!?!? Ugh.

Suddenly K-Stew didn’t seem so bad to me.

  43. Natalie says:

shes going to ruin the movie! she cannot act! shes the same in every movie shes done, awkward and stststuddars!

  44. truetalk says:

never seen any twilight movie so i don’t know if she can really act but i think d way she poses just shows she’s a gawky teenager who is still unsure of herself and doesn’t know how to handle d fame yet. probably d same reason she sounds angry or defensive in interviews. u may be amazed when d duckling becomes a swan.

  45. curmudgeon says:

Snow White has been redone at least twice as a live action film from the queens pov.
Red Riding Hood as a lycanthropic sexual awakening has already been done
(In the Company of Wolves 1985) also Freeway with K. Sutherland is RRhood. These reimaginings are not new. They are being badly recycled for a new generation. Even Beauty and the Beast is not new.
    Remember the TV Show?

  46. Messenger Of Truth says:

Re: last picture – Looks like she had an…accident…and got a little K-Stew on her fingers.

  47. sasa says:

I’m not a huge fan of either Kristen or Alexis Bledel but man, going by looks Alexis has her beat by a mile. She’s Snow White incarnated.

  48. Hmmm says:

It’s like getting Bella Redux. Oy vey!

  49. penguin says:

can’t stand her in the twilight movies but she was good in adventureland

  50. kiko says:

well thats just fucking great!!first horny little red riding hood an now this!wow hollywood thanks for nothing…god i wish with all my heart (maybe not wish demand) this movie to bomb!

  51. samihami says:

I agree with the PP that suggested Mila Kunis for the role of Snow White. She’d be PERFECT. Beautiful AND can act.

  52. Geekylove says:

To say she looks inbred( too lazy too look up the poster person) is taking it too far.
She’s 20 yr old, she has a healthier sense of being normal than most in hw. As a girl who doesn’t care for makeup or 500€ shoes or sex&city inspired life, i Like her.
Why shouldn’t she slouch, or Smoke, or curse privately or dress in jeans and tshirt, or not wash her hair everyday? When i’m studying for an exam, i wish i would look Like her on her worst day.
I know i will be ridiculed, but in my 24 years i’ve never seen suh a strong reactions from women, all kinds of women, on a girl that doesn’t have sex-tape or jail in the works.
Maybe is she had tiger blood in her veins…

  53. Angel says:

    She’ll be great.

Geeky — hear, hear, darling. All of it.

  54. Dingles says:

I’m disappointed but not surprised. “Red Riding Hood” aka “Twilight with a Cape” is trying to capitalize on the twitards’ money while the iron is still hot (and more importantly, while the Breaking Dawn movies aren’t in theaters), so it makes sense that the producers of “Snow White” would get Bella Swan herself for the lead role. I’m sure they’ll find a way to insert a love triangle and lots of misty forest scenes into this one as well.

  55. Madison says:

Remaking snow white sounds stupid to begin with but Kristen isn’t a bad choice, I can see why they chose her.

  56. Cha Cha Loca says:

Snow White?! Dopey I’d believe but Snow White, really???!!!

  57. Chloe says:

Isn’t Julia Roberts a bit too old to play the princess? Cause I’m assuming she’s not going for the Queen

  58. Ari says:

*throws hands up in the air* IN DISGUST

  59. Myra says:

I don’t know if she really thinks she’s “above it all”. I think she’s sad because she’s gay or bi, she tried to come out, but her team was able to turn it around and put her in a fake relationship with a guy. So, if that’s the case, I just feel bad for her. She can’t live her life the way she wants to.

  60. harfang says:

I agree with Myra 100%. I only just watched “The Runaways” with the commentary and oh my GAWD was it obvious. I expect she will come out after 3 to 5 years.

I know this kid can be annoying, but everyone in the Twilight saga is annoying. Additionally, she’s genuinely very bright, and has an almost directorial grasp of her craft; her visual and spatial thought is exceptional. Just because she’s an arrogant, parted-lipped twig doesn’t mean she’s not a worthy actress. If she were male and/or older, everyone would be much less quick to judge her personality. I think that as she ages, she’ll end up knocking everyone flat.

  61. ordinarygirl86 says:

Kristen Stewart is one of the few determining factors as to what I will be seeing at the movie theater! If she has a role then I know I will NOT be paying to see it. I’ve given her a chance but I cannot stand her twitchy monotone acting!

    Twilight- PASS
    Twilight 2- PASS
    Twilight 3-PASS
    Twilight 4,5,…18-PASS
    Snow White- PASS

  62. My Darling Pinkett says:

Bleh…she is so obviously wrong for the role of Snow White. She’s not beautiful, and yes, her acting isn’t very good. I haven’t seen Twilight and I don’t want to, but from everything else I’ve seen her in she has little to no range. I was willing to give her a chance in The Runaways since I heard that she “nailed it” and “emersed herself” in the role. But what did I find? Kristen Stewart! She may have the haircut and the slouch (although that’s not exactly a stretch for her) but that does not make her Joan Jett.

And I get that people say they like her because she is “real”. That’s what I keep hearing. So everyone else is fake? If you’re nice, have a genuine smile, are clean, don’t stutter and curse, then you’re fake? I guess you’re comparing her to Miley Cyrus and forgetting all the other nice actresses out there who are around her age. And yeah, she does have a PR team, a dresser, and a hair and makeup team. She also flips people off and curses like a sailor, but some folks let her get away with it because she is young. Well you know what? I am the same age as her, and I am not that immature or disrespectful. I’d like to think that if I was in her position, I wouldn’t be as miserable and entitled as she is. I don’t hate her, but I hardly think she is someone to look up to. She has a foul mouth, she doesn’t sound all that intelligent (even if people think her so-called honesty is amazing and “real”), she drinks, she smokes, and has been caught doing drugs. Wow, what a role-model! I really look up to her! Because she’s reeeeaaaaalllll.

Yes, Juila Roberts is the evil Queen in the other SW, which I believe is coming out six months before this one. Not sure about that one. Can’t wait to see how they turn out and what their box office success is like!

  63. almond says:

Well, I never thought of Snow White as morose and sullen, but I guess I’ll have to readjust my perspective.

And to those who have commended her for not being a famewhore and for actually being low-key and uninterested in the whole HW life, since when do we measure talent and appeal by that? She’s understated and private, but I would expect that out of any normal person.

Talent wise, she’s one-note. So while she’s really good in some roles, in others she’s unbearable. She has no range, and that’s her problem. Everything else, I don’t take care about and it’s not my concern.

Just don’t trot her out as this great talent. She ain’t.

  64. gemmaa says:

I gave twilight a second chance a few days ago….and lasted a few mins less than the first time round. Yep, it really is that bad. Her ‘acting’ is HORRIFIC. The whole franchise is depressing, from the badly written books to their on screen adaptation.

  65. Camille says:

    @mia girl: ITA 100%.

(FYI No I am NOT a Twihard fan. I saw the first movie and that was bad enough! *shudder*)

And if someone wants to see a really good version of the Snow White story, then check out: Snow White: A Tale of Terror.

I think people are expecting all of the upcoming Snow White movies to be like those awful watered down soft Disney movies. Who knows what direction the new films will take. *shrug*

  66. Patrice says:

Oh dear GOD, this is going to be hoooooorible! (The header says it all)

  67. Bella says:

    Pretty girl

    Cant act

    nuff said…

  68. nooooooo... says:

Agree with Kaiser. Couldn’t care less about her off-screen attitude, but cast someone who can ACT in a movie with Viggo Mortensen.

  69. Michelle says:

What is she, picking a wedgie out of her a** in that last picture?

  70. totesgoats says:

To be fair, you did pick the worst pictures available of her on the Internet. I don’t understand why people hate her. Is there something she did personally to these haters that makes them hate? As far as I’m concerned, it doesn’t affect me or my life negatively that she is cast, so why not! More power to her! No one will force me to dole over my money to see this, so again, no crime being committed here!

  71. Isa says:

Hautie- I think that her fingers are stained from self tanner. But I could be wrong since it’s only two fingers. Sh does appear to have a little more color in that picture than the others.

Her face dosen’t match the image I have in my head of Snow White. Hers is too angular. Of course, everyone has different ideas of what she should look like.

This girl makes me feel awkward just looking at her.

  72. baboosky says:

Im for ALEXIS BLEDEL as well; as face. complexion, demeanor, personality, attitude fits her to a T to play Snowhite. And I know that she’s in her late 20’s already but if you still look at her nowadays, she could still passed up as being a “teenager” – surreal!

  73. Micki says:

Ordinarygirl 86: exactly my thought! I haven’t seen her in anything before the first Twilight (ashamed to admit that I watched) and decided to make my own mind and see some other films with KS. So in all her 20 something films, there are 3-4 that get the “PASS”. In short:she won’t make me go and buy a ticket. I only hope the other two Snow Whites would fare better.

  74. jemshoes says:

I have nothing against Kristen Stewart being cast as Snow White, but I DO have a problem with Hollywood in general re-imagining / retelling / rebooting classics that don’t need it. Classics are classics because they endure! Also, this is just laziness and lack of imagination.

  75. normades says:

If Kristen is to play “the fairest in the land”, that will be one ugly kingdom.

  76. Beth says:

She never bit her lip once in “Welcome to the Rileys.”

  77. Str8Shooter says:

Well, she’ll definitely have the comatose part of the role down pat…

  78. CB Rawks says:

If she finishes tugging that dress out of her buttcrack, we’re all going to see her boobies.

  79. imho says:

Alexis Bledel would be MORE believable on this role and actually got more personality than KStew!

  80. Gabriela says:

Oh god i get bored just by looking at her face

  81. Joy says:

I looked at a picture of Alexis Bledel, just to see who someone was referring to, and I agree with the reviewer, Hollywood SHOULD have picked her instead of Kristen Stewart, Mila Kunis looks great for Snow White too!

Granted I haven’t seen these two women act, but from what I’ve read on here, and seen, these two women are how I imagine Snow White to look like, either one.

I saw the Twilight movies out of curiosity and hated the weak storyline and weak acting. I think the only reason why Kristen Stewart got this part was only from her fame on Twilight.
