Tina Fey plays Sarah Palin again on Saturday Night Live

Tina Fey again parodied Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live last night. In a segment opening the show with Amy Poehler playing Kate Couric, Fey mocked Palin’s recent inability to give a straight answer in interviews, muddling through talking points and continuing to throw out words and concepts without making sense. I thought Fey was a little hard on Palin, but then I watched the interviews she was making fun of, which are below. I also found quite a few op-ed pieces which share Fey’s impression of Palin.

Fey has said that she doesn’t support Palin and hopes she doesn’t have to play her again after November.

Here are segments from the two interviews with Palin that Fey was mocking.

Katie Couric interview, Part One. 9/24/08.

Segment of her Nightline Interview with Charles Gibson, 9/11/08:

Here’s a link to part two of Palin’s interview with Katie Couric.

From the sublime to the beyond ridiculous. Those Palin interviews would be funny if they weren’t real and there wasn’t the tiniest chance she could end up in the W/H in a month’s time.

(Bono, the king of Ireland – LOL!!)

  2. Lola says:

I was rolling on the floor laughing at those Palin interviews. God, she would be worse that ‘W’. Is she for real? At first I thought it was a joke. I developed new respect for Katie Couric, I am not a huge fan but boy you have to give her credit for not blinking in disbelief and asking Palin if she was serious. I know I would. Gibson too, those people are more patient that me. I would have laughed my socks off. Palin is going to be good for comedy thats for sure.

I want to feel sorry for the Americans but then most of them I’ve met are like her anyway. I guess that is why she appeals to them. How do you explain the love for their peanut brained President. Electing him not once but twice.

Sarah Palin for President. Move over McCain.

  3. Mr. T says:

Tine Fey has jumped the shark. Time to move on.

  4. MSat says:

Tina nailed it again- but big points to a very pregnant Amy Poehler for giving some great Katie Couric. The blinking was too funny!

I still can’t believe Katie friggin’ Couric got the best of a potential VP. What the heck kind of VP would Palin make if she can’t handle little miss perky? Give me five minutes alone with that Today Show refugee and I’ll have her picking up my dry cleaning.

  5. Nouvel says:

ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS and right on the money. Fey is going the way so much of America is, they are on to Palin and how CLUELESS she is.. FABULOUS ACTING.. she is awesome !! Obama 08!!!

  6. wow says:

Americans have been trained (very well) to interpret a smooth speaker (Obama) and articulation (Hillary) as trustworthy and intelligent. Hillary spews out more lies in a half an hour than most people do in a lifetime. Yet she does it with such eloquence. Most seasoned (or *experienced*) politicans are asked tough questions they dodge them or give nonanswers. Which amazingly often go unchallenged by the media. Sarah Palin has not mastered all of these so-called skills yet. Doesn’t mean she’s dumb or incompetent any more than the next person. Doesn’t mean she is either. But people need to get beyond TV skills when deciding on a candidate.

  7. Kaiser says:

I agree, MSat. And those ladies on The View gave McCain one of the hardest-hitting interviews, too. Time to grow a pair, MSM.

    Sarah Palin = moron
Tina Fey as Sarah Palin = brilliant

  8. Mairead says:

I watched the original interview posted here. I’m hearing an awful lot of words, but not much being said.

The terrifying thing is that I still think these two could get in.

  9. str says:

    zomg
i’ve just watched the original interview
the snl stuff is almost VERBATIM!!!

  10. hellcat says:

God, why won’t she sit up straight? I like the “lost in a blizzard of words” comment. He might as well just have said, “I’m sorry, all I heard was ‘bullshit.’ Was there an answer in there?”

  11. Laura says:

I agree with str. Tiny Fey’s “mocking” wasn’t so much mocking as it was redoing the interviews almost verbatim. The skit must not have been that hard to come up with as Palin provided all the punch lines for them.

  12. aleach says:

yiiiikessss, i hadnt seen the Couric interview yet & just watched…looks like Palin had a case of “diarreah of the mouth”.
Mccain must think this country is a bunch of dummys to believe he picked this woman as a running mate for any reason other than shes a female! he certainly doesnt have the countrys best interest in mind with this choice…
that being said, Fey got it perfect!!

  13. breederina says:

That was great. The king of Ireland 😆 Had seen the Couric interview and agree that this sketch was not much of a stretch at all. They’re stuffing this woman full of information that she’s not bright enough to process in a meaningful way .
“I’ll go find some and bring them back to you” Yeah, and check on those Russians while you’re looking.
Will be mixing a big batch of tasty drinkies for the Biden/Palin debacle, I mean debate.

  14. heehee says:

I called it out at the beginning that this was a ploy for attention on McCains part, and a use of her and her daughter for publicity.
Seeing the interviews finally- Very much so indeed!! 😕

  15. Ron says:

I’d like to use my phone a friend….

This would be hilarious, if it wasn’t true.

  16. snappyfish says:

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler should win the emmy for the palin/clinton service annoucement of two weeks ago, this was excellent as well.

Fey has Palin spot on. What is sad is that McCain actually thinks this idiot is qualified to be VP. Oh and the whole ‘original maverick’ title, he stole in ’98 from another arizona politician who lost his bid for re-election.

I don’t really care for McCain or for Obama and I have to vote for the lesser than two evils. Of the 4 the most henious is Sarah “I can see Russia from my house’ Palin. So Obama/Biden it is.

  17. Celeste says:

Tina Fey did a good job with her portrayal of Caribou Barbie. The real interview showed how clueless Palin is. But then again, if she’s made President should McCain die, it will be the “shadow governor” running the country anyway, Todd the dog musher.

  18. Orangejulius says:

Crap! I feel like I’m back in ancient Rome and we may get a leader who’ll make us fight lions or we may not….Throw a dice up here…. phew! Throw a card up there and a feather up here….

This woman is horrendously, terrifyingly clueless and Tina Fey nailed it absolutely.

  19. James says:

I am surprised that there are still people defending for Palin.

American Republicans, don’t you see that she is a joke? It’s time to call her to step aside.

Shall McCain die in his presidency, and this Palin creature comes into power, it’s bad news not only for Americans, but for the rest of the world.

I am serious. This is no joking matter on SNL.

Change your VP candidate for the sake of God.

  20. House Mouse says:

“Americans have been trained (very well) to interpret a smooth speaker (Obama) and articulation (Hillary) as trustworthy and intelligent. Hillary spews out more lies in a half an hour than most people do in a lifetime. Yet she does it with such eloquence. Most seasoned (or *experienced*) politicans are asked tough questions they dodge them or give nonanswers.”

    Congratulations ! 🙂 well said

Anti-Obama poeple (millions and millions, some unable to trust him, some afraid by his origins etc…) must feel depressed after these Mrs Alaska interviews.

“Caribou barbie”: excellent! Yes, her pink dress couldn’t look more babiesh! 🙄

“I have to vote for the lesser than two evils”, yeah between Obama and McCain, I still don’t know which one is worse 👿

  21. brista says:

At first I thought SNL was trying too hard with all the Miss America-style answers.

Today I watched the actual interview with Palin.

Holy freaking crap are we in a pantsload if these two toolbags make it to the White House.

  22. ashleigh says:

I just wish SNL would be more balanced, like showing perhaps Obama’s all talk no action record in a humorous light.

  23. House Mouse says:

A thougt : maybe Palin is paid by pro-Obama’s to unsure the demacrate candidate to get into the White House?

I don’t see any other rational explanation of her presence in this terryfing campaign, taking place in thde middle of the worse GLOBAL economic debacle ever.

Obama is a theater/movie caracter, Palin is a walking parody of an ambitious and superstitious babrbie.

  24. House Mouse says:

“I just wish SNL would be more balanced, like showing perhaps Obama’s all talk no action record in a humorous light.”

Yes, it would ressemble less to an anti Palin / Mc Cain campaign. Obama’s speaches are more fluid, but he’s freaking scary in the role of America’s big boss, as much as the military and the pro-gun pro-life Alaskan pinup.

Insisting on Palin could have an opposite effect, you don’t think so? She could, as a victim, attract dummies symapthy.

  25. stellapurdy says:

It’s so ridiculous that she is in the position she is and mind boggling they’re still in the race.

It makes me weep for our country and all of the soldiers who have died fighting for it.

Is this the best the republicans can do?

  26. Diva says:

A later skit in the show showed Obama is in less than perfect light.

The Palin things have been the opening bit, but that doesn’t mean it’s ALL they say.

  27. Lola says:

They do show skits mocking Obama, but they are just not as funny. Some people are just pure entertainment without effort. Palin and Bush are just some of them. Republicans on the whole are better to mock because they take themselves too seriously. I am sure some comedians are hoping that she wins. It would be hilarious but I guess like Bush, it wears thin after a while. Especially if she starts bombing Russia and Iran when she cannot locate them on the map.

  28. breederina says:

stellapurdy I asked that question over and over about young shrub. Then I went into shock and disbelief when they finagled him into the presidency. It may not be the best they CAN do but it’s the best they think they NEED to do which should scare the pants off every single one of us living in this country.

  29. bella says:

Palin is in Beauty pageant mode, that is all she is and she will ever be. Puppetmaster Mc Cain found himself a true treasure.Open your eyes and envision our country going to shits.I mean total SHIT.

  30. mel says:

Palin can NOT run this country…she’s a joke!!! If McCain/Palin get in rest asure that we will see another 9/11.

  31. julius says:

KKKKKKK:, couldn´t believe the REAL interviews. Which one of them is the fake one, lost ¨in the blizzard of words¨? Tina Fey for VP!

  32. Vern says:

I have to comment on “Wow’s” statement that Americans have been “trained to interpret smooth talkers as trustworthy and intelligent…”
Fair enough, however, her lack of delivery wasn’t the most frightening part, it was her lack of origional thought. She had to quote or reference Mc Cain just to get through a sentence! Stringing together sound bites is not enough at this stage of the game. If she were running for Head of the PTA it would be bad enough, but we’re talking potentially running the country. Her lack of knowledge is an insult.
And, yes, all good politicians give non-answers, artfully change the subject and move on. But all she can do is blather like a homeless crazy person. And, while this is an effective method of deflecting a pesky question, it is not good enough for a VP candiate. I agree that Katie earned her pennies that day, for being able to keep a straight face. I know I wouldn’t have been able to resist at least coughing *bullsh*t* under my breath, if not performing a full on citizen’s arrest or exorcism.

  33. Lore says:

Mrs. Palin does not know how to organize firt her thoughts and then her words. That’s not good because they sound like non-sequitours although in reality they are not. She tried to condense several thoughts into one sentence. That’s not lack of brains though, rather a bad conversational habit.Sarah’s ok, leave her be.
I do love Tina Fey, I think they were separated at birth.Just think the fun we’ll have if McCain/Palin win.

  34. AC says:

wow. i can’t believe this person is a VP pick. I can’t. BELIEVE IT. She wouldn’t even win a pagent with these answers.

  35. AC says:

I hate that the first women in many of our life times to be this close to the presidency is a laughing stock. I think of young boys and girls seeing this and it makes me sick.

  36. prissa says:

I can not believe your comment lore: ‘Just think the fun we’ll have if McCain/Palin win.’ No, more like think of how this country will go to hell in handbasket if McCain/Palin win!!! I hope you were kidding…

  37. Bill DeCheeder says:

I saw the Palin skit and thought that they used it one too many times. Once was funny, 2nd time was heavy handed and way too political. In fairness , they should have an opening skit on SNL this week with Sarah Palin playing Tina Fey. Not sure how they could portray 5 years as a mediocre head writer and top dog at a failing show into 5 minutes, but perhaps they could ask Al Franken. He’s loaded with ideas. Don’t you just love my idea? Even better, don’t you just love SNL more now that Ms. Fey has trailered her overly long and not funny SNL skits onto 30 Rock. Good riddance to her; maybe time to consider stay home mommy stuff that she babbles so much about.

  38. Lola says:

McCain and Palin have been on CBS again. Hilarious. You should see them. McCain openly patronising Couric almost insulting her. These republicans should win. They sure are comedy value. It is like. ‘…Daddy come and see this girl who has been bullying me..’ goodness. I can’t wait for SNL to do a skit on that one. I hope they get a good McCain, because Sarah is genius as Palin.

  39. Bill DeCheeder says:

Re: Laughing stock so close to presidency

We came this close twice before

    LS #1 – Ferraro

LS #2 – Shadow Prez HRC, PIAPS

  40. Vern says:

    Prissa,
I think Lore meant the comedy value of Tina Fey’s impressions of Palin, not the actual hell that will be visited upon us.

    Bill DeCheeder,
    Hate women much?

  41. Vern says:

Oh yes, and if you were going for Historical accuracy rather than misogyny you would have referenced Shirley Chisolm. Or is racism also part of your repertoire?

  42. Payton says:

As a Canadian, I find Tina Fey to be hillariously brilliant & fiercely intelligent. Sarah Palin’s accent is abrasive & low-class. Please don’t make the world listen to her baffled crap for the next 4 years! Mr. McCain is a phoney, senile a-hole. Vote Obama – that gentlemen has the class & fortitude, that McCain has never possessed in his lifetime, or in the future. Tina Fey is my hero.

  43. emmma says:

    obama all the way.
    not that idiotic palin/mccain team!

  44. mwalk says:

You people are clueless, i cant believe you base the political worth of public servants by what saturday night live has to say, first off, they dont work for a living(actors), they SUCK ten fold, they are the worst cast EVER, all of them hacks who use their spotlight to convey their DEMENTED thoughts of how the world works. You people have alot to learn, now that ZERO is in office this country is going to hell on a rocket, get a clue as to how the real world operates!!!!!
