I have to admit something – as a general rule, I hate polka dots on adult women. Put polka dots on a child, or even a tween, and I think it’s cute. But almost never on an adult woman. However, if you’re an adult woman and you’re going to do polka dots, you should do it like Kate Winslet at the premiere of Mildred Pierce. Kate is wearing Stella McCartney, and I don’t really hate it. I like the way the sheer polka-dotted fabric is cut with the black fabric, and I especially like how it curves around the bust. It’s surprising, and flattering.
Also at the premiere, Kate’s costar/on-screen daughter Evan Rachel Wood. She’s in head-to-toe Elie Saab. I would have liked to see the dress with less matchy-matchy shoes. And I also think ERW dresses with slightly too much “theatricality” you know? I’ll give her this though – she’s not afraid of color, so good for her.
Melissa Leo was also at the premiere – bitch can’t dress. This is so unflattering on her, but despite that, it’s one of her better looks.
Guess who else is in the miniseries? Guy Pearce!! I love Guy so much. He’s so talented and pretty. He even did an interview where he was talking about how much he and Winslet loved working together – go here to read it. Guy Pearce for HGF?

I think the length is off on her dress, otherwise it’s adorable. And ERW’s dress is very pretty, but way too old for her. She’s like 25 or something, this dress would be too old for Kate Winslet.

I don’t find Guy Pearce necessarily hot, but recently — after having watched The Proposition and The Road — I realized he’s such a good actor that sometimes he can be hot by association.

Kate has a gorgeous figure and a full bustline — this does NOTHING for it. When you wear a high neck over a full bust it makes you look heavy.
The dress is ill fitting at best. I think the sheer polkadot embellishment could work, but not on Winslet. She should have opted for a smaller lunch or a different dress, cause this one makes her look well fed.
They all look hungover and sleep deprived. And ML’s character from The Fighter dressed better than she does IRL.

ERW looks fabulous. I love a good solid 40’s look & she has definitely pulled it off here. The only thing I would change would be her hair.
A full bust can make a chest appear smaller it’s all about the cut. Her hair is played down so that her dress is able to shine. She could have gone with a more strappy and playful heel and perhaps a more richer pink hue to her makeup, but overall I like this look.

Without a doubt Kate has tinkered with her face. It looks far more matronly and cattish. Sigh….I guess it’s a fight no one in Hollywood can win. Now I understand why they cross their legs at the ankles when posing. That first pic make Kate look boxy.
Hate KW’s dress and whatever she’s done to her face. ERW looks great, as usual…it’s cool how she can pull of so many different haircolors well, but I still prefer her as a redhead. With the blonde hair she’s like the TWIN of the actress who played Sarah Newlin in TrueBlood.

I really think Kate’s dress is very cool, but the styling is way off across the board. The naked makeup, the soft hair, the shoes, the bag–all not working. That dress is crying for some hot red shoes. ERW looks great. Melissa Leo at a premiere in a dress by the Chico’s sale rack. I sat next to Guy Pearce on a flight from AU to LA, he was such a nice Guy!
I’ve loved Guy since his Neighbours days. A brilliant actor and always comes across as such a decent bloke.

I can understand actresses having surgery as they get older, because the public gets used to seeing them look a certain way, and to keep getting jobs, they have to maintain that look for as long as they can.
But why CHANGE your look? I can’t believe that she really WANTED to become unrecognizable as Kate Winslet, so I can only assume this was an unintended consequence. She doesn’t really look bad, she just doesn’t look like Kate Winslet – which is tragic, because she USED to be one of the most beautiful in Hollywood. I don’t know if I can even watch her in a movie again without all these thoughts going through my head – it would be too distracting.
I would never bitch about HGF choices, but since you ask, I must admit – I do not care for Guy at all. I’m not really sure why. Something about him just squicks me.
kate’s dress is a perfect example of how a slim woman can look heavy by wearing a cut that’s not flattering and ill-fitting. the dress pulls at the waist and hips, it is simply too small for her. the high neck and length do nothing for her figure, it’s an unfortunate choice. and, i didn’t even get to the make up or shoes!

I really like the dress and the colours look great on her. The cut is what I don’t like – the hemline would have looked better shorter, she looks heavier than she really is so it doesn’t flatter her body. Also, the makeup artist put way too much foundation on her! I do like the eyeliner, it makes her eyes pop but that combined with a heap of foundation doesn’t mix well. She would’ve looked so much better with minimal concealer. I don’t see how her dress confirms that ridiculous rumour that she’s with Mayer either – what kind of conclusion is that? This dress is quite classy, it’s black with a little polka dot surprise thrown in. Oh, and to all the people who insist that she’s had plastic surgery and changed her face after looking at these pictures, this picture taken the next day at the Mildred Pierce press conference should shut you all up:

@ Amanda: thanks for posting that picture. I don’t think Kate W. has gotten plastic surgery/botox/injectibles. I think that she lost some weight after her divorce and that, combined with the fact that she is nearing 40, has thinned out her face. When she was in her 20s and 20-30 pounds heavier, her face was fuller.
If you look at pictures like the one you posted, you can clearly see that she has full movement around her eyes, forehead, etc. There is no freezing or tightening on her face.
Her makeup was horrible at the Mildred Pierce premiere- Lainey has some high def close up photos and you can see that she is wearing far too much powder and it is clinging to the peach fuzz on her face, making her look pasty and furry.

If you hadn’t told me it was Kate Winlet, I would never have known.
She’s doesn’t look any thinner now than she was a couple of years ago (and possibly a little heavier, although that may be the horrible dress, and even if she was, it’s fine because she looks good with curves). Yet her FACE is skinnier, especially the lower half (jowls reduced). She simply doesn’t look like the same person anymore. Is there some way to un-do this type of work? If there is, I hope she does it.

The dress is fantastic. But whoever did her makeup should be fired. Wayyyy too much powder or whatever that is they put on. It almost dilutes the dress.
