The Queen in lemon yellow, perfect or too bold?

wenn3315926
Queen Elizabeth II arrived at the Royal wedding in a bright yellow dress suit by Angela Carey. She was accompanied by her husband, The Duke of Edinburgh. Her Majesty looked quite striking in a simple hat with a yellow rose, a stacked string of pearls and a brooch. She also wore sensible flats low heels and was seen with her glasses on during the ceremony. I really love this look for her, which is bold in color but traditional and simply cut in style. It’s very similar to her past looks.

I’m sure we’ll hear more about the significance behind the Queen’s jewelry choice as the day goes on, but for now all eyes are on lovely Kate on her wedding day.

    Perfect!!

  2. Mairead says:

It looked more muted in some photos – I liked the detail around the neck

  3. Ruby says:

She wore lemon to Williams wedding and to Charles’ wedding too. I also heard she wore lemon to her prom. Hmmmmm lemon

  4. aenflex says:

i cant really stand these people but fuck it – im happy for em

  5. Solveig says:

I know this woman is not perfect and all, but she looks sooooo cute, and that canary yellow dress makes her even cuter.
The Duke always looks so stoned.

  6. You don't say says:

She’s the Queen and can wear whatever she likes and it looks good on her. She is just so cute.

  7. Ben says:

I love her. I really don’t know why, but she just seems like a bad-ass.

  8. oh god this is the queen???? she is JOKE

  9. Amy says:

I always feel like the Queen wears the same outfits but in different colors… I mean she is old so it’s not like she can be like Kate or Princess Eugenie/Beatrice and wear the latest styles/crazy looking hats (I for one am not a fan of royalty head gear to these kind of events, I always find them dumb looking). So she stays sensible and covered up in bright suits that pop!

  10. Nancito says:

The queen looks like one of those Easter marshmallow peeps.

  11. Ruby Red Lips says:

The queen looks fabulous in lemon yellow. It was so lovely to see her beaming in the carriage ride on the way back, she looked so happy.

Could be a trick, she’s 85 years old! She looks amazing, unless you were expecting some stereotypical image of a queen….it’s the 21st century

  12. tracking says:

Wasn’t it more of a lemon yellow? Anyway, strategic choice to have her dress echo the priest’s cope–a signal that she is the head of the Anglican church.

Couldn’t someone have groomed her consort? Ugh.

  13. Hautie says:

I believe I heard one of the talking heads say the brooch is the Queen Mary’s True Lover’s Knot. (her grandmother?)

Which of course means, she did not pick it up at Macy’s on a whim.

  14. 80sgirl says:

She looks lovely but its a tad too much yellow. She looks like the lurpak butter man.

  15. Angie says:

She looked wonderful! I have always admired her.

  16. Tee says:

Her majesty looks great. She truely is an admirable woman. It is a very proud day for the Commonwealth, it makes me suprisingly happy to see her face on our coins and notes. The history behind the day is what makes it amazing.

  17. baby says:

    she looks adorable =)

  18. Donna Wingfield says:

She has one of the world’s truly great smiles when she is not having to present the royal facade.

  19. TXCinderella says:

Oh, I just love her. She looks so much like my Grandmother it’s scary. She looks fabulous in bright colors!

  20. hater from siloam springs says:

She’s the queen and she didn’t ask anyone. God save the Queen!

  21. Sparkly says:

I thought she looked lovely. Like I told my kids when they asked where her crown was, she’s just being a happy grandma today!

    Kinda.

  22. Darlene says:

She looks lovely. I have always liked her. She carries herself so well. She turned 85 last week! She’s coming up on SIXTY YEARS as monarch. I just love her. What a queen.

  23. Jen34 says:

Love it! I’m very impressed. I actually thought she looked pleased today. I guess we’ll see.

  24. jules says:

Long Live The Queen! She can wear whatever color she chooses…she’s The Queen!

What a fantastic day for the Monarch!

  25. Justaposter says:

    I thought “Granny” looked nice.

  26. ladybert62 says:

The yellow makes her look a little washed-out but overall I love the style on her! She may be dowdy (But who isnt at 85 except Joan Rivers!) but she has class and did not try to outshine the bride – The Queen is trying hard to make this a special day for William and Kate.

  27. Hazel says:

The Queen is perfect. She’s dressed like the ray of sunshine that she is…I know, I know, I love her.

  28. poodlemom says:

We should all look this good at 85! God Bless The Queen!!!

  29. The Other Katherine says:

I love this outfit so much. She looks happy.

  30. tacwr says:

i just love this woman- she could wear a dishcloth and would still look regal. i think she is an example to all of us when it comes to duty, dignity and stamina. Long live the Queen.

  31. junipergreen says:

I heard them say on the news this morning that she purposely wears bright colors so people can spot her easily. Makes sense.

I think she’s so adorable. Maybe that’s condescending? I don’t mean it that way; I just really like her and find her easy to like.

  32. DrM says:

She looked fantastic…I hope I look as well at 85! God Save the Queen…

  33. dread pirate cuervo says:

    The Queen is awesome!

  34. really says:

She looked wonderful! Long live King William!

  35. REALIST says:

She and the Archbishop of Canterbury and all his minions match perfectly (the yellow part, anyway).

  36. beth says:

i always think little old ladies should break the mold and be full of surprises! YAY!

  37. curmudgeon says:

God save the queen. We mean it man.

  38. Cheyenne says:

She looks dowdy in any color and always has, but I like that color on her. She looks happy and relaxed and just enjoying the day.

  39. KateNonymous says:

Perfect. The Queen knows her colors, and she wears bold shades well.

  40. clorismetchum says:

i always feel like she looks like a man in really bad drag. something about that FACE. but then again, none of the women in the family have ever been great beauties…

  41. REALIST says:

I am a bad, bad lapsed Episcopalian (Anglican). Of course it would be tag team clergy. Initially the Dean of Westminster, then the Archbishop (note giant hat that could double as a tall tea cozy..)
Anyway, the color was right for all of them, and the Queen makes a sweet grandma…

  42. MJ says:

    Lovely.

  43. Nanea says:

@ # 40 – clorismetchum: Queen Mum looked good as a young woman, my College has a big oil painting of her shortly before she married Bertie.

Lilibeth also looked much nicer when younger.

QEII with her 85 years looked better than e.g. Queen Margarete of Denmark, who’s so much younger than her.

  44. original kate says:

    she ain’t no human being…

no, i jest. i think she looks lovely here, but why does she always carry a purse? what does she have in there?

  45. REALIST says:

    Argh-Clergy in hat-Bishop of London–
Weren’t Charles and Di married by the Archbishop-state vs private ceremony?-
    Good proper Anglicans-pls help me!
Note-when everyone else sings “God Save the Queen”, Q-Tip just gets to stand there….

  46. Kiska says:

I like the boldness of the yellow. It’s kinda like shouting, “hey kids, I’m still the Queen!”

  47. Bonfire Beach says:

She reminds me of my nanny. And the Duke looks like a nice pap pap.

  48. Amanda G says:

    She looks lovely.

  49. Richie says:

She is 85 and going strong! she is too cute! May God be gracious and make her live to see the great grand child! May God bless the Queen!

  50. Mary says:

Fantastic, perfect, If Kate and Pippa hadnt dazzled, the Queen would have taken top spot.

  51. Lady Satan says:

She’s 85. That means she can wear whatever the hell she wants. 🙂

I do think she looks lovely though. I’m not a fan of the Monarchy, but I have always liked the Queen. She always has this little gleam in her eye that makes her look like she’d be a riot to talk to “off the record”.

  52. Lady Satan says:

@OriginalKate – I always wonder about the purse too!

Prolly just the usual stuff, tissues, lipstick, but maybe she stashes a little flask bottle in there too, just to relieve the boredom of yet another State dinner speech. 😉

  53. jemshoes says:

I’m sure the Queen would disapprove if I said she looked cute, but she really did! I like the lemon-yellow and the cut and fit of her entire outfit.

  54. Lynda says:

would you want her job for a small part of those 60 years?? 400+ appearences a year? god bless the queen.

  55. jdao says:

    perfect

  56. Fiona says:

Surprising and naughty!I love her choice…

  57. foozy says:

    god bless the queen!

  58. Dirty Martini says:

You. Do. Not. Trash. Talk. The. Queen.

    Loved it. Love her.

Her Magesty Rocks. So does Lemon Yellow on Her Magesty.

  59. Julie says:

Yellow means happiness. The Queen wore yellow to say she is happy for Wills and Kate. She was the best dressed too – so much dignity and class!
