Sarah Jessica Parker in McQueen at the Met Gala: Streisand-esque?

Like Gisele, Sarah Jessica Parker also decided to posthumously honor Alexander McQueen by wearing one of his more conservative dresses. Now… I don’t hate the dress in it’s entirety. I actually think SJP looks very put-together with the dress, the great makeup (I love her eye makeup in particular), the high fashion hair, and the blue shoes which “pop”. But there’s something “off” about the look too. I think maybe it’s the high collar on the dress…? The high collar makes it seem like SJP is wearing an old-school, Hollywood costume rather than a near-vintage McQueen ensemble. But perhaps that is the fault of McQueen, and not SJP, who just wanted to wear something special from her friend Lee. So, in the end, I can’t hate on this ensemble. She looks put-together, age-appropriate and rather lovely, although a bit conservative and dated.

Also… is anyone else seeing Barbra Streisand? It’s the hair and the nose, right? I’ve never really seen SJP look so strongly like Streisand.

And yes, Bravo’s Andy Cohen was her date. Matthew Broderick had better things to do, I guess.

    Wow, the fit is great.

  2. Az says:

SJP wishes she could look half as good as La Streisand. Same goes for Aniston. I do like the dress but am sick of all the palecolors. I like evening dresses in a more sturated hue. And really, with everything McQueen put out this is the best you could do? C’mon! As for Andy Cohen (who I love with all my heart even though sometimes I think he’s Satan’s minion), I’m just glad that if SJP’s main gay is busy, she has a backup one.

  3. spinner says:

The color is way off for her & the dress fits well but the fabric looks too heavy for her tiny frame.

  4. marge says:

too much dress for such a tiny person…

  5. HookedonBass says:

Photo-bomb Andy in the second picture is cracking me up. What is that, a 40-degree lean? “Helloooo world, Andy’s arrived!”
Never change, Mr. Cohen. Never change.

  6. brin says:

The more I look at the dress, the more I like it. I ‘m on the fence about the length of the sleeves, (maybe it does give the dress more interest), but all in all, i think she carries (pun intended)it off.

  7. someone says:

    I think she looks fantastic!!!

  8. Sue says:

I agree with you Kaiser the high collar is off putting but other than that she looks good and the dress fits her very well.

  9. francesca says:

I think the shoulder seam/sleeves aren’t fitting right. A little droopy, maybe?

  10. Emily says:

She looks like she’s picked up something that was made for Cate Blanchett. She could pull off this dress, I don’t think SJP does.

  11. caitlin'smommy says:

SJP for the win. Not only did she wear soemthing by the honoree, but she looked better than anyone I’ve seen pictures of today.

  12. Eileen says:

Hands down my favorite dress of the night. She has a long face so the high neck looks strange on her-but it fits her body perfectly & the shoes are perfect. LOVE! WANT!

  13. dorothy says:

    She always does it right.

  14. Yas says:

Who’s that in the beautiful gold dress behind her in the first photo? That might be my favourite dress of the night!

  15. kazoo says:

    also loved this dress.

  16. serena says:

    Horrible horrible horrible.
    1) what with that hairstyle? It’s so boring, and old!
    2) the collar, it’s definitively the problem of the dress.

  17. Tia C says:

I usually LOATHE McQueen’s designs. And pretty much everything SJP ever wears. Both he and she are simply not my taste. But wow, miracles can happen, because that’s the first McQueen dress I’ve ever seen that I actually liked – and horseface is wearing it! Like others have said, perhaps it is a little too much dress for such a small person, but at least it’s tasteful and pretty, for a change.

Oh yeah, the hair does suck though. Que fug!

  18. Ari says:

I love her entire look but when I got to her hands I shuddered – its like ripples in that first pic. Hideous…she is too young to have 80 year old hands.

  19. Cheyenne says:

Love the dress. The horsey face is something else.

  20. lucy2 says:

I like that gown, and she wears it well.

  21. Annaloo says:

Sarah Jessica looks so much better when she dresses for her age and leaves Carrie Bradshaw at home. I like this dress on her.

  22. K-MAC says:

    she looks terrific!

  23. Janna says:

Maybe on someone else taller with darker hair. Just okay on her.

  24. Hakura says:

@Yas“Who’s that in the beautiful gold dress behind her in the first photo? That might be my favourite dress of the night!”

I totally agree, I LOVE that dress in the background. The pattern creates interest, but doesn’t take away from it or get overwhelming.

I also see the weird ‘Streisand’ resemblance.

  25. Stubbylove says:

LOVE it – SJP’s still got a smokin’ bod. The earings are gorgeous as well.

  26. Jeza-belle says:

This is one effing ugly broad. LOL

  27. Leek says:

I LOVE that dress! I like sleeves a lot. There is something sexy about sleeves. It’s a humble look but really beautiful at the same time.

  28. Maritza says:

It’s the best she has looked in a long time. I would say she should consider cutting her hair into a bob like Barbra Streisand because it looks great with her nose. Either that or get a nose job.

  29. bagladey says:

The collar isn’t working for SJP on that dress but the fit is A+; kudos to her on maintaining such shape, and … I love me some Andy Cohen.

  30. KateNonymous says:

It’s the shape. That style is great on taller women, and she just isn’t one.

  31. fluffyrabbit says:

    Wow – she looks fantastic.

  32. Amanda G says:

What a great hair style to compliment her… unfortunate…face.

  33. Isa says:

She looks soooo great! I love everything! She totally has a rockin’ bod!

  34. P.J. says:

This fitted column style looks great on women who are shorter and have small bones like SJP. Love the patterns formed by the beads, and how they enhance her great figure!!

  35. Ron says:

Beautiful, beautiful! I love that she came with Stanford Blatch too!

  36. Hakura says:

    @Amanda G“What a great hair style to compliment her… unfortunate…face.”

I know how mean this sounds, but I find it surprising how far SJP has managed to get in the entertainment industry… with a face like that. I mean… If I may borrow from Family Guy, her face looks like a foot. xD A real runner in a ‘hot body/weird face’ contest.

@Maritza“Either that or get a nose job.”

Unfortunately, I suspect if SJP ever did any sort of platic surgery around her nose, she’d get the ‘Jennifer Grey’ backlash. So everyone is going to talk about it as unattractive, but if she did anything about it at this point, everyone would jump on her for it. xD

  37. wunderkindt says:

All I see is a stale Horse-Faced Fug holding onto the fabulously, fresh-n-lovely Miss Andy Cohen! (Love you Andy!!!xoxo)

  38. Gwen says:

I think she looks good and I love that she wore McQueen.

  39. Snappyfish says:

The dress is lovely. Streisand analogy was spot on.

  40. Andie B says:

I like it – she has a great figure..hey everyone, she does have an unusual face, but maybe she’s OK with how she looks. I would lose respect for her if she went to the plastic surgeon now.

  41. Kim says:

    LOOOOVEEE! she looks insanly good!

  42. Anoni Mus says:

Meh. She doesn’t look too bad I have to admit.

Now to more interesting stuff… who is this Andy Cohen person? He’s gay, right? Damn, what a shame. He’s hot!

  43. mary simon says:

love the dress on the woman behind sjp.

  44. Vesper says:

I think the dress really ages her. As for her date, Andy Cohen, such an improvement over the fugly Matthew Broderick. At least Andy knows how to smile.

  45. Newbie says:

I love it. But the neck-line is bothering me, too. It’s like it wants to be a cowl-neck, but it’s lacking the fabric. If it were more structured I’d give it an A+.
