Last night was the premiere of Melancholia, the Lars Von Trier film that looks awful. So awful that Lars Von Trier said a bunch of crap about Nazis and then got banned from the film festival. So awful that between Kiki Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg, barely anyone cares. And only Charlotte Rampling comes out ahead. Many of you liked Kiki’s mustardy dress at the photo call yesterday, and I have to say, she did pull it off. However, for the premiere, she wore this tragic Rodarte. I think this junk looks like upholstery. And cheap upholstery at that. But I’ll give Kiki credit – she looks “put together”. She doesn’t look wasted and like she just threw something on. Her makeup and hair are gorgeous, it’s just the dress that I hate.
Meanwhile, CB and I were arguing about Charlotte’s ensemble. I kind of like it, because I’ve watched Charlotte’s style evolution through the years, and this is one of her sexiest looks, in my opinion. She usually dresses kind of hipster, lots of Marc Jacobs and high collars and not a lot of skin showing. So this is new – and I love that she did it while super-pregnant. CB thinks it’s kind of trashy and fug, and most fashion sites agree. WHATEVER. I like it.

Um, Charlotte, no. Although I would have loved Kirsten’s dress had it ended just before that ruffle skirt at the bottom. Her makeup is perfect, though, she looks absolutely gorgeous.

Oh man, Charlotte Rampling is still a gorgeous woman! Love her. The other Charlotte isn’t bad, too: I like her natural beauty, she looks a lot like her mother (luckily). Dunst, no interest in her.

It’s a strange dress but Kirsten looks good IMO. The dress looks way better from the waist up. That fabric at the end is weird. I have to say that Charlotte’s look is not very red carpet but that’s her style. Rampling looks very elegant.
And btw, Melancholia reviews have been mostly positive.

Fashion is the epitome of “the eye of the beholder” but someone CALL A PARAMEDIC FOR KAISER!!!! Charlotte’s web consists of a slip, bra, and shear drapery. It must be by definition (Webster’s 23rd Edition) the most God awful agglomeration of fabric I have ever seen and the fact that she’s pregnant….well, Gaga would blush.

I like them both. Kiki’s Cannes fashion has been great and I love the idea of sheer black on a pregnant lady. Only if her bra wasn’t showing, I always find that too distracting in an outfit.

What the hell does Charlotte have on it looks like something a crack out blind hooker would wear, I say blind hooker because I can’t imagine a person with sight would wear that and does she only own one pair of shoes.

Good God that black thing is monstrous and tacky. Hideous. If she had lucite heels I’d think it was from the Shuana Sand collection. Kiki looks good and the dress, while not a silhouette I generally like, is surprisingly interesting and seems to fit impeccably. Kiki wins by a country mile.

I love Kiki’s look! A fun, original, adventurous dress.
Personally, I feel that a lady must choose whether to wear a see through shirt, or a see through bra, and usually she should chose neither.
It pains me to critique Ms.Gainsbourg because I am a fan, but this is one of the cheapest, sloppiest, ugliest looks I have ever seen from her. How does one decide to start showing skin (and quite dramatically) only 9 months into pregnancy? I hate what she is wearing so much, that I’d seriously prefer wearing a MuuMuu, or a tent.

I love Charlotte G.’s attitude, a dress like that on a pregnant woman is kind of funny. Kirsten’s gown is, well, horrid, but I like the hair and make up.

Charlotte Gainsbourg looks ridiculous, like she literally got out of bed and threw a gauzy wrapper over her lingerie, and then went to a premier. I don’t LIKE Kirsten Dunst’s dress, but at least it’s interesting. Actually, I do like the fabric at the top, I just don’t think it works in that style. It would make a knockout tailored dress that you could wear instead of a suit.

I like Charlotte Gainsbourg, and I love pregnant ladies in general, but sadly she just looks atrocious. I understand that when you’re hugely pregnant it’s hard to find something comfortable and flattering, but come on. Wearing your sheer curtains over a $10 sheer bra and the same shoes you wore yesterday while not bothering to even brush your hair is not acceptable. People often think very pregnant women tend to look ‘sloppy’ anyway, so I always try harder to look nice and put together–and to keep skin covered.
Glad to see Kiki’s keeping up the boob support trend! I’ve always felt sorry for her poor unsupported girls, I’m sure they’re happy they’re up where they’re supposed to be, too. LoL

cg-good idea (altho its not my personal taste) but poor execution..maybe if it was a shirt that covered her boobs so it didn’t show her bra and then got sheer further down. instead of a sheer robe over a bra like this
i love kd’s makeup here and i love the green color of the dress on her..ita with many of you here that on the bottom its really icky

I think Kiki’s hair, make-up, and skin look great here. The dress, meh. I also think she looked great in the yellow dress at the photo call.
But I am WAY MORE IMPRESSED with how she conducted herself throughout that extremely awkward interview. I don’t think she’s generally given enough credit.

Hm, I really like that gown on Kiki for some reason and I thinks he looks fantastic – very well put together here. But for the lace bra and shoes I don’t mind Charlotte’s outfit.

Kirsten’s dress looks really nice on her in the waist up, but the ruffle at the bottom I think is the thing that makes the dress so wonky. Makeup and hair were flawless, and I really like how her hair looked here than in the yellow-y dress. Could just be that it is evening as apposed to daytime or wearing darker colours, but the colour looks better.
Charlotte…oy vey. It isn’t really horrible, but it is still pretty bad. I find it to look most like a robe one would throw on for a day in, though with a sheer top. I guess maybe she is embracing her pregnancy or something, but she could have had a better dress – I think in general I don’t like when a dress shows off the bra, even more so when they’re pregnant. I wouldn’t go so far as to say the dress looks trashy, though. But it isn’t too tasteful, either.

I think it would have worked better at a shorter length. That’s a lot of dress, with that strange heavy texture. She looks pulled together though, which is a lot more than I can say for Charlotte.

Gainsbourg looks a mess, her top could be lined with another delicate sheer fabric, in more strategic places, and still look edgy, not pregnant mom wearing boudoir attire to Cannes! She usually looks great but this is a fail imo.

Wow, Kirsten Dunst actually looks good! I’m so used to her looking dumpy and crappy, I had forgotten she can look decent. Charlotte’s dress is risky but unique and I think I like it too. I’d bet it’d look really awesome on her when she’s not pregnant too.

If kirsten’s dress was slimmed down to fit like a glove and the ruffle removed, she’d look like a star. But she always has…odd style choices. At least she isn’t very boring. It’s nice to see her back to form.
