Taylor Swift wins big at the Billboard Music Awards, Beyonce gets a tribute

Here are some photos of Taylor Swift in Elie Saab, last night at the Billboard Music Awards. The dress is meh – as I’ve said many times before, I get tired of seeing Swifty is pastels and paler colors. I would love to see her in bolder jewel tones. However, her hair was a major improvement. It looked… deflated. But nice! At least it wasn’t teased up in princess curls. Anyway, just like last year, Swifty took home a bunch of big awards, including 200 Album Artist of the year and Country Artist of the Year.

Other winners: Justin Bieber for Digital Artist of the Year, Top New Artist and Fan Favorite. His date was Selena Gomez. Rihanna took home Female Artist of the year, Lady Antebellum got Country Song of the Year, and the Black Eyed Peas won “Top Duo/Group”.

One of the most talked about moments was probably the video tribute to Beyonce, and how she’s like the next Nelson Mandela or something. Don’t get me wrong, I like Bey, and I do think she’s a pretty great role model for many young women. But the way she was discussed was a little bit odd. People like Bono, Lady Gaga, Barbra Streisand and Michelle Obama all spoke about Bey’s influence, and then the video went black and Beyonce began performing her new single “Run the World (Girls)”. It was a technical-heavy performance with the large screen behind her and lots of dancing. It was okay.

Here are some photos of Bey backstage in a cute LBD.

    She looks smug! I don’t like her at all.

  2. Quest says:

    Beyonce is a little to overdone (inclusive of the dance routines), she should take it down a notch or three.

    Sometimes older doesn’t always mean better – not everything ages like fine wine. I think Sacha Fierce gotta stop forcing it so much.

  3. brin says:

    I got nothing but love for Swifty these days. She raised a lot of money for tornado relief in the southeast. It’s devasting in many parts here.

  4. kasper says:

    Beyonce dresses like a call girl, dances like a drunk stripper, perpetually wears a weave, fake lashes and fake nails, and “writes” songs straight out of the ho-bag paint by numbers manual. not to mention that she’s a complete tool and a moron to boot. I don’t get it.

    If you want to see talent, watch a video of Tina Turner in her younger days.

  5. almond says:

    The dress on swifty is pretty; the details alone are gorgeous. But it doesn’t bring any wow factor when worn by Taylor. At this point she should just throw a beige sheet over her and be done with it. That’d actually be a tiny bit scandalous.
    I would wear the hell out of that dress though.

  6. tapioca says:

    How is Beyonce a “great role model” exactly? She had her father create a band around her, took her clothes off a lot, screwed over her bandmates, screwed over some genuinely talented songwriters by threatening to black-ball them if they didn’t give her undeserved credit, screwed over her back-up dancers by paying below union rates, played the Christianity card then ditched it, and is slowly turning herself white in a bizarre parody of Michael Jackson. There’s no doubting the girl has charisma in spades and a powerful voice but she’s the ultimate example of middle-aged, corporate executive-driven RnB pablum in the body of an “exotic” dancer. Which isn’t to say I don’t enjoy at least some of her songs!

  7. garvels says:

    @tapioca-I agree,especially on how she takes credit for songs she did not write. Her talent and image is very manufactured.

  8. Micki says:

    Sorry for the question but what does Beyonce have in common with Nelson Mandela?I admitI don’t follow her life but it’s appaling I’d miss SUCH a significant thing.

    Appart from that:I usually don’t comment on someone’s body, legs, arms and so on but compared with Katie’s legs (from last week) I’d wear only full lenght condom-outfits if I were Beyonce.

  9. CallieTrichid says:

    Is it just me, or does Swifty resemble LeAnn Rimes a little bit in the face? I’m not trying to start anything, but the squinty eye thing is strong in both.

  10. sarah talks says:

    Beyonce is beautiful but she’s starting to look old in the face and/or crazy. She looks 40+ lately.

    and the only humanitarian thing I’ve ever heard of her doing was singing to a kid with cancer on stage, and it’s not like she went to the hospital to sing. it was such a pr move and the dumb ass press drooled over it and basically called her a living angel for singing a song at a concert she was already scheduled to sing. they acted like she was the second coming of Jesus because of that.

  11. DGO says:

    Don’t like Beyonce. She’s classless, tacky, and full of herself. I love Taylor’s dress, but not on Taylor. She really needs to change up her style a little.

  12. Amea says:

    Beyonce’s new song isn’t even good. The video was interesting here and there – I liked how she was dancing in combat boots and a couture dress. It was different from her usual nakedness. But she didn’t even do anything different in her performance.

    If I had kids I would not point to Beyonce and say “Follow her lead” for the exact reasons tapioca said.

    Though, I think the way she called out Jay-Z was cute.

    ____________

    That’s because she’s really 37 years old.

  14. Ria says:

    “teased up” in curls? you clearly know nothing about curly hair. if you put curly hair in curles (that to make them be organized and of regular shape) – like Taylor Swift does all the time – they look voluminous on their own! you don’t *tease* them up. and now that she sports this flat ironed and then styled with curlers again do, you say thank god it’s not curls again? don’t get me wrong, I hate Taylor Swift. I just have the same hair as she does. and I used to be caught up in those princess curls that she sports for ages. that’s why I think saying *now* her hair looks good (or better) is a bad idea. sends the wrong message. imho

  15. Dhavy says:

    @kasper LMAO
    I agree with you. WTF is the talent here? She looks like a drag queen to me

  16. CG says:

    Agree with what everyone else has said about not understanding all the Beyonce love. I like some of her songs, but that song she did last night is awful. I had to change the channel after a minute.

  17. RHONYC says:

    and how she’s like the next Nelson Mandela or something.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! 😆
    exactly.
    the performance was meh.
    although, she ‘is’ at the top of the food chain performance wise,
    i still felt it was meh…by her OWN standards you know?
    she’s got the stamina of a mack truck though, i’ll tell ya that. girlfriend was barely out of breath at the end.
    remarkable. 😉
  18. RHONYC says:
    ooooh SNNNAP!
    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA!
    LMMFAOH! 😆
    ‘a drunk stripper’
    that was the best yet today. fuggin great!
  19. gee says:
    Why do people keep saying Beyonce is really much older? I don’t know this story, can someone share? I love a good age lie.
  20. Slim Charles says:
    I always assumed she was mid-thirties, at least.
  21. truetalk says:
    i want beyonce’s body ,voice and moves.she can keep the husband.lol
  22. DGO says:
    @gee:My post with a link didn’t show up, but Google Beyonce’s real age, and a heap of info will pop up.
    There was also a blurb in the British press about her (not mentioned by name, but obviously her) that stated her passport listed her as being born in 1974. Plus Gabrielle Union, who is 37, stated they went to school together. Lots of stuff like that.
  23. jover says:
    Agree with everyone esp. kasper and tapioca; but bouncy has the charisma of a hair dryer – she isn’t capable or intelligent enough to carry on a real unscripted conversation. From what I’ve read last nite’s billboard show was a crapfest of mostly lame lipsynching. Despise talentless autotuned swifty – yes, smug and utterly overrated. She’s needs to dress her age – like a twelve year old. Oh well, this show is about sales not quality.
  24. Nicky says:
    I’ve noticed Taylor keeps her mouth closed when she smiles. Maybe she’s finally realized her giant veneers look ridiculous.
  25. Su says:
    I dont particularly get the venom against Beyonce in this post. the tribute was made to her on account of her billboard award achievements so surely everyone in the video WOULD be saying great things about her. I find it funny that just because you dont like someone it negates ALL their abilities! PLEASE, lets NOT pretend that she cant sing and isn’t a world class performer, How many MAINSTREAM artists are there that ALWAYS perform live and give a great show without pretending that their ‘art’ is above everyone *GAGA*? who else has become THAT succesful without exploiting their private lives (like Timberlake)?Come on now, give Beyonce her due, she IS that good and deep down you know it….
  26. Beatrix says:
    The graphics were really cool, but the performance just seems loud and flashy with no substance.
    She is a FANTASTIC singer, but she just yells now. Makes me sad.
    I don’t think she deserves icon status though. She’s terribly derivative and the songs are shit.
  27. vegemite says:
    Beyonce’s ‘dancing’ is more like exercise,graceless,hurried and jiggly.She tries so hard…..
  28. ordinarygirl86 says:
    I’m sorry but while Beyonce thinks she’s some kind of legendary icon a la Tina Turner, MADONNA or Streisand , I think everyone else is thinking “huh?” I mean I get that she works hard n all but let’s be real:She puts out catchy pop songs with accompanying booty shaking videos.
    I’ve never heard one of her songs and thought that it defined my life or touched me but I have danced to her songs at the bar….you be the judge.
  29. opeyemi says:
    good posture.
