Rihanna in crisp white Max Azaria: lovely, sexy or boring?

wenn3360713

Honestly, I thought Rihanna was one of the best-dressed celebrity women at last night’s Billboard Music Awards. Music awards shows are always tricky, fashion-wise. I always hate when musical girls show up in gigantic ball gowns or pageant looks, and I also kind of hate the Gaga-esque forced “kooky” costumes. I love that Rihanna did this clean, classic Max Azria suit. It’s a beautiful cut, a nice fit, and she looks so sexy and unforced, two words I usually use for Rihanna. I even like her hair.

As for the much-discussed performance with Rihanna and Britney, they did a remix of Rihanna’s “S&M”. It’s just… ugh. I don’t… ugh. Poor Britney. She looked out of it. Poor Rihanna… she’s not the best live act. This whole thing was sort of an exercise in tragedy:

I hate her hair colour but the outfit looks great on her. She’s really pretty

  2. Shay says:

Oops…for a split second I thought I was looking at Carrot Top.
See this is what gets me about all this tart culture. Does she have to have the shirt unbuttoned all the way?
Maybe it serves for easy access for some god awful one night stand she is preparing for.
Rihanna will always look slutty to me. She fails at elegance from every direction.

  3. gloaming says:

Hey Rhianna- Close your legs ffs!

  4. Addie says:

    Love the high waist pants!

That hair however looks quite obviously like a wig especially in the last pic.

  5. Quest says:

RiRi looks good in that suit (I luv it)and it actual looked good with the red hair/wig (can’t believe I just said that)…really.

I don’t care much for the performance and think it lacks real entertainment. Revealing catsuits and gropy hands don’t make a good show, I thought there was gonna be a flashing vajaja moment when RiRi opened her legs. Poor Brit

  6. Jackson says:

Still with the clown hair?? Ugh. A very nice look otherwise, but clown hair trumps nice outfit.

  7. merski says:

This performance is so embarassing… I couldn’t watch until the end :/

  8. MaRy says:

Brittany was sad and hard to watch..lip singing,(she really doesn’t have a singing voice then or now) She is barely moving, she seem lost on stage. Very ackward. She look a bit old and worn and not fitting with the fast stage performing. I feel people are pushing her to perform and do concert tours when obviously she is not there any more. Its more of an effort and you can see it in her face and body language. She should try to move on to other ventures in her career. Turn page and work on a new chapter of her life. Move forward Brittany, don’t keep trying coming back to old glory…Evolve yourself, don’t look back but reflect and really inspire to accept your changes and maturity.

  9. MaRy says:

Rihanna look great with the suit, hair went well. – She’s young folks..She’s doing good..Not involve in drugs, getting drunk..She’s working, performing and styling her style!
The only thing Chris Brown and her are Tweeting following..After ALL he put her through..I think she still cares for him ALOT to be wanting to communicate with him…But that’s what women do when they are in love..we forgive, and pray and want to believe “he change” and “Promise” never again…I hope she really thinks clearly , violent behavior is deep rooted and usually flare ups happens, and can be more violent.

  10. Lady Satan says:

Love the outfit – the hair is a bit much though. Nice style, but tone down the colour a touch.

Poor Britney looked so awkward! She moved so stiffly and with the exception of one smile at Rhianna everything looked false and forced. Girl is like a puppet.

  11. sunseeker says:

I love the outfit, love the hairstyle but not the colour.

  12. RHONYC says:

    surprisingly lovely. like, wow! 🙂

  13. ladybert62 says:

She looks trashy with that hair color and the unbuttoned to the waist shirt – trashy trashy trashy

  14. Ja says:

Definitely one of the least crazy outfits. I like it. Love the hair and makeup!

  15. Amea says:

Very chic, flattering, and classy, but eh it’s been done before.

Ahh the blessing of small boobs…I could never get away with a low-cut unbuttoned top like that. Hope she enjoys it while she can and doesn’t cave in to Hollywood Implants Mania.

  16. Dudette says:

She looks great. I think that hair colour really works for her.

  17. Hakura says:

She really does look beautiful. It’s nice to see her doing something fashion-wise that isn’t so ‘out there’. I don’t know why, but there’s just something about the first picture, maybe the hair & shape of her face, but it made me think of Whitney Houston (once upon a time…) Just a weird angle or something.

@Shay“See this is what gets me about all this tart culture. Does she have to have the shirt unbuttoned all the way?”

For Rihanna, this is WAY toned down compared to normal. At least you can’t see ‘side-boob’, even when she’s standing profile in a picture. No ‘gaping’ in the way the shirt lays. I really don’t think the amount of skin she’s showing is slutty on this one.

@Lady Satan“Poor Britney looked so awkward! She moved so stiffly and with the exception of one smile at Rhianna everything looked false and forced. Girl is like a puppet.”

I know. =( Then at the end of the performance, you can see Britney start to wander offstage (instead of standing there with Rihanna a minute as I assume she was meant to.)… Then the camera pans again as though someone turned her around & pushed her back out there. She seems so disconnected from her body, like moving it to dance is ‘alien’ to her now. I feel so bad for her… She doesn’t *need* to do this, she should take her time & be with her family.

  18. luls says:

That performance was so trashy on so many levels, I dont even know WHERE to begin!

In comparison to that, its no wonder Beyonce is considered a legendary ‘role model’…!

  19. GeekChic says:

I’m always amazed at how “performances” like this that are full of pyrotechnics and flash and sexy costumes, compare with a bare-bones performance of someone like Adele just singing with a piano. It’s perfectly clear which one has substance and talent. Adele doesn’t need a bunch of disembodied hands groping her or lip-synching Britney wearing a too-small leotard to be amazing. She just has to stand there and sing. I wish more music performances were like that.

  20. truetalk says:

it’s Rihanna. were u expecting her to actually button up? i’m not even sure the shirt has buttons.
she’s really pretty hoewever and should dress like this more often.

  21. 4Real says:

Wow Brit why even show up? Can she even DANCE anymore? Nice crotch show girls…such talent!

Btw, I like the Rhi’s outfit.

  22. Krissy says:

At this point Britney reminds me of one of those diving horses you see at the fair.

  23. Hakura says:

I was just thinking about this the other day, listening to one of those mix radio stations, wondering why there are so many songs/singers from the 60’s-90’s that people will always love & remember… (especially 60’s & 70’s). I had to come to the conclusion that it’s because being able to *really* sing your ass off, was more important than what you looked like, or how visually complicated your concert was. They’d get onstage with real instruments, & *sing* just like their recording, because they can.

It’s not a bad thing to have a visually interesting concert, or for the artist to dance, if that’s their thing (which *would* make lipsyncing more acceptable.), but it’s gone too far, into the territory of valuing the visual over the actual singing/music.

Adele is just awesome. her ‘Unplugged’ performance of ‘Rolling In The Deep’ gave me goosebumps. (Interesting too, that Britney Spears claims Adele is the artist she most admires, right now.)

  24. SolitaryAngel says:

Dare I say she looks….beautiful here. Love the makeup, the hair style (not the Ronald McDonald color), and the suit is gorgeous. See, she CAN look decent when she wants to. Girl, do this more often!

  25. Deven says:

Rihanna looks absolutely stunning in her white getup! I kept imagining her just standing there in the suit with a microphone and singing without all the rock trappings around her, including Ms. Spears. Poor Britney…let her come back here to the South and just be a housewife. It’s what she knows and surely wants.

  26. PrettyLights says:

I think she looks gorgeous, she’s got a beautiful face and I actually love her hair color. She can pull it off with her coloring, so why not?? The suit looks great on her and since she’s small chested she can pull that off without looking trashy, lucky girl.

  27. MMF says:

I have a couple of neighbor girls who love to dress up and perform music and dancing.
They put these two ho’s to shame.
    Brittany needs to retire.
Rihannon needs to take some lessons in voice.
Lousy performance by both of them.
    Entertainment value -00

  28. HSP says:

I think Rhianna has a great hair style I really like how she looks in these pictures!

  29. Mary Jane says:

Rihanna looks bettre than I’ve seen her in ages (the hair still KILLS the look, though). I guess the dress does make the woman…
Max AZRIA (no relation to Hank, although that would be too cool and random) makes some of the coolest cocktail dresses. — I got a GREAT one at a consignment shoppe for $15!

  30. ADS says:

Rihanna looked stunning. Because she is a beautiful girl more subtle looks suit her more and help bring out her features. It is a shame team Rihanna seem to think her OTT/cartoonish/creepy sexualised image is what she needs to be ‘edgy’ and sell music.

  31. Chloeeeee says:

she’s really gorgeous, i dig the outfit. I would dig the hair if it didn’t change 5 times a day. As for a live performance, she really was disappointing. She spent 70% of that song on the ground. Like, just sitting there singing at points.

  32. Amanda G says:

Britney seriously couldn’t sing those 3 or 4 lines live? Why is this girl still famous again?

  33. Su says:

“This whole thing was sort of an exercise in tragedy”

This comment made me laugh out loud, so TRUE! however it actually gives me physical pain when i see how far britney has fallen….

  34. Isa says:

She looks pretty good. But I hate that song. “Smell of sex” makes me want to gag for some reason.

  35. Hakura says:

@Isa“She looks pretty good. But I hate that song. “Smell of sex” makes me want to gag for some reason.”

I thought I was the only one who was grossed out by that ‘description’… I’m all for being a strong, sexually liberated young woman. (& even the song ‘Rude Boy’, which was entirely about sex, didn’t gross me out… because you could really tell she wasn’t taking herself seriously at all, was just having fun with it.

The S&M thing doesn’t bother me at all, either. (She still seems to be having fun with her music.) Just that ‘smell’ thing. Ick.

  36. sandy#1 says:

Rhianna finally looks great here, hair color and all, it suits her, poor Britney.

  37. She looks fantastic!

  38. ordinarygirl86 says:

    She looks so chic! STUNNING
