Just two months after we first heard that they were dating, and three months since they first met (here’s a link to a video of them meeting on the red carpet on March 8, it’s at :52 in), Nikki Reed of Twilight and American Idol contestant Paul McDonald are engaged.
McDonald, 26, is a bearded Chris Kattan lookalike who was number eight this season on Idol when he was voted off. We heard some mild rumblings in the National Enquirer’s May 16th issue that he might be using Reed to help him out with his music career. They quoted a source who claimed “Paul is pressuring Nikki to introduce him to her agents, studio executives and even her ‘Twilight’ co-stars. His own friends are predicting he’ll leave Nikki as soon as he gets his big post-Idol break.” The Enquirer also reported that McDonald’s band The Grand Magnolias will be featured on the soundtrack of an upcoming movie, Loosies, starring one of Reed’s Twilight costars, Peter Facinelli.
Whatever McDonald’s intentions, he’s trying to signify that he’s serious. The two of them walked the red carpet together at the MTV Movie Awards, where Reed flashed an engagement ring. She simply told E! Online “He’s the one.” The girl is all of 23. “The one” is incredibly relative at that age. Her taste in men is probably about as developed as her fashion sense.
Looks like that Breaking Dawn wedding isn’t the only prospective Twilight marriage on tap.
On the red carpet at the 2011 MTV Movie awards, Twilight star Nikki Reed flashed some serious bling when I asked her whether she thinks she and her man Paul McDonald will wed. And she had an answer ready.
“He’s the one,” she said. “He’s the one.”
A source confirms that the two are, indeed, engaged. Congratulations, you two. And guess what else she told me…
Reed says her man, who made it to the top 8 of American Idol this season, has been writing a bunch of songs in her honor! Aww.
“He says he’s going to release a Nikki Reed EP,” she said.

Well good luck to them. I like that her ring is understated and isn’t a huge bauble that McDonald couldn’t afford. I believe she’s really into him, but I have some reservations about him given the Enquirer story and another article I read about how he was a sourpuss at Reed’s recent birthday party. If he is dating her for the fame and perks it’s a smart move. Former American Idol contestants are a dime a dozen. So are Twilight stars in a way. So it’s a win-win.

It’s got nothing to do with her age, but with her brains. To get engaged only after two months of dating is …foolhardy, to say the least. Especially given her status, meaning that whatever fame and influence she has are enough to attract all sorts low-life and leeches. After two months you barely know if the guy prefers boxers or briefs. Sheesh.
And what is with this trend of announcing every important and personal decision to your fans and to people in general? These people need to stop famewhoring their private lives. Ugh!
@almond: Because announcing her engagement (at the MTV movie awards no less) is the only thing she’s got to be relevant. No one cares about Nikki Reed. It’s all about the eye rolling mouth breather and sparkle pants.
@ mdf Thirteen was, indeed, a long time ago. So, I guess whatever works for her. But it’s such an unfortunate choice. Much too early.
By the way, I have a severe sense of deja-vu with this. Has any other C-list celeb puled something like this lately?
She should not have worn that big honkin’ring on her forefinger. It makes the engagement ring look small in comparison.
Married at 23 is really not so weird and even engaged after a few months. On the contrary I think it shows confidence in the relationship and maturity in knowing what is important in a relationship – my parents did exactly the same thing and are near their 30th year.

IMO, it’s too young to get engaged that quickly, especially for 2 people in unstable show business in this day and age. Good luck to them, but I’ll be surprised if they actually get married, or then if it last more than a couple years.
i refuse to believe nikki reed is 23. she has to be at leat in her late 20s.
Well, Mr. B and I were engaged two months after meeting, and married two months after that. It was over 20 years ago now and we are still married.

This is all sorts of suspect to me, but whatever. I’m NOT a twihard, but wasn’t it general knowledge that Patinson dated this Reed girl before moving on to Stewart? To me at least, it seems like this girl has been really burned and is trying to make up for her irrelevance, scorn, etc. Not that she’s still into Patinson per se, but that she’s burned over not being linked to the greatness anymore. Why else would you try so hard to overshadow everyone in the twilight saga by announcing on the same night?

Do you mean like the Kardashians?
Well, the one thing I’ll say is that the movie “Thirteen” (directed by Catherine Hardwicke her sort of stepmom) is cowritten by her and based on her middle school experiences. Maybe she got started so young that she is older beyond what her current age implies and really does know.
That or you are so right and she does need to mature some more and take more time before settling down.

It doesn’t matter age or how long theyvev been dating it just mattters that they love eachother enough. I adore Nikki and have beena fan for so long. Nikki doesn’t like the fame she was merly stating the fact that she was happy.Shealso commented that after twilight was over she would be leaving acting to go into business however if shes marring paul hes a singer trying to get his big break so i dont think she will be able to get awau from it. and if like you said Paul is using Nikki to get fame believe me it wont go well for him. Twilight fans always take care and watch out for the cast. if he is he will get a lot of backlash for it. he would lose a lot of respect from fans and people.
