Emma Watson covers Vogue July 2011: vampy-sexy or too over the top?

emma12

Here are some advanced scans from Emma Watson’s July 2011 Vogue cover and pictorial, photographed by Mario Testino. I have to admit… I don’t hate it. Vogue and Anna Wintour have been mixing it up lately, and while seeing Emma on the cover of a magazine is nothing new, this isn’t the standard Emma photo shoot. Plus, I think this is the first time she’s been on the cover of American Vogue. She got her strong, dark eyebrows under control, and they tamed her hair into an interesting style. But the biggest styling change is the lip color. Who knew Emma would like a completely new girl with this strong, beyond-blood-red/burgundy hue? It’s very… interesting. It’s not very “July” but from what I can see, Emma is styled in advanced Fall collections anyway. It’s totally a great photo shoot, no question, but it would have been ever better in September or October. In the cover shot, she’s wearing Prada, by the way.

Meanwhile, there are some reports out of the UK claiming that Emma has decided to go back to college/university, although not in America. The Mirror (which is as reliable as The Mail, which is to say there’s a 50/50 chance they got a decent scoop) claims that Emma is enrolling or has enrolled at Oxford University’s Worcester College for the coming school year, where it is believed that she will continue to study English. The Mirror doesn’t have any confirmations or quotes from even unnamed sources (Emma‘s spokesperson said “No decisions have been made yet.”), and I tend to think the report is based on the idea that Oxford’s Worcester College might be affiliated with (or one of the sister colleges of) Brown University, where Emma dropped out a few months ago. I also think The Mirror has the times wrong – didn’t Emma hint at the idea that she was taking a longer “break” from university? If she goes back to school, I don’t think it will happen until next year. I hope she does go back, to Oxford or Brown or wherever she wants, just because I think it will help her figure out who she really is and what she really wants to do, away from the glare.

UPDATE: Emma’s interview is here at Vogue.com.

Emma has confirmed she will go back at school in september. In the vogue interview, there is this sentence : “In hopes of restoring some sanity to her schedule, she will go back to school in the fall somewhere closer to home”. So, maybe the rumor about Oxford is true.
She is gorgeous on the cover, I love it.

I never understood why she needed to go to an American university. She will have more privacy in England. People there aren’t obsessed with celebs as in US.

I didn’t even recognize her. Very nice indeed.

The one pose is rather Sonicky.

Good transition shoot to show a grown up Emma for the end of the Potter series and then for her next more adult roles. She is a stunning young woman.

Nice pictures, but the girl doesn’t look like Emma.
Don’t know if it is because of photoshop or because I’m not used to see her with so much make-up on.

Good article (the full Vogue)… I wonder if it’s going to be possible to see her or Dan, or Rupert, or any other well known Potter cast member as anything other than their well known Potter character. Nice to see she still seems to be avoiding trouble, hope that continues.

I dont like the look on her – I think she looks matronly – way too old a look for her.

  24. jover says:

Agree with 32# sorry about being repititive but Anne WIntour has ruined Vogue by turning it into Variety east; I want to see fashion models and great fashion photog in vogue, not the latest pedestrian starlet. Compared to covers of french/italian vogue 80s/90s these covers aren’t even memorable. Someone tell me what wintour’s fascination is with every middling starlet of the moment.

Thanks for the advanced warning that Miss Thing will be on the cover of my Vogue subscription. I would have been quite put off if it was sprung on me.

PS – what the hell is up with Vogue and Chanel lately? They’re really going generic and pedestrian with their models. What’s happened to the glamor?

    ===============================================

She thinks it sells magazines. I cancelled my Vogue subscription a few years ago because of what Wintour’s done to the magazine. The covers are horrible and the content isn’t much better. Check out the foreign editions if you can find them in your area.

Thank you cheyenne; but doesn’t the ice queen have accountants etc. to show her sales figures – blake lively on vogue twice, three times; if these covers aren’t increasing sales then somethings wrong. btw, any cover with Paulina Porizkova on it blows away these middling starlets; sad that so many of today’s gen has little knowledge of what pop culture was like even a generation ago.

OMG THE ENTIRE THING IS GORGEOUS, STUNNING, AMAZING. EMMA INCLUDED.

SHE LOOKS WAY WAY MORE BEAUTIFUL than Angelina does in her LV ad.

And to think that Angie is supposed to be the most beautiful person on earth. HA! This proves that its all about the styling. Not the model herself.

This article is complete bogus. She blames everyone and everything on her fame. It also says emma dated george but they said they were just friends. It was already figured out months ago. The girl just lies about everythign almost and she contradicts just about everythign she says.
