The 13-year-old star of this week’s number one film, Super 8, has yet another pictorial in yet another fashion magazine. Little Elle Fanning was featured in Blackbook, and we talked about those photos last Friday. I thought that shoot was mostly sophisticated and pretty, with one glaring Lolita exception where Elle was placed in a camisole and bloomers (that what it looked like to me), with her leg up and a mock-sexy look. It was kind of gross. Today we get to see Elle’s Marie Claire editorial, which appears in the July issue with Jennifer Aniston on the cover.
Now, this shoot isn’t as gross as Blackbook, and I’m starting to develop a theory that perhaps stylists and photographers are simply overcome by how easily Elle can be made into an adorable Twiggy-esque, retro model, and they forget that she’s 13. I hope that’s it. Here’s what I like: I love the retro styling, I love her hair, I love the gloves, I love the white palette dress and I love her pretty little face. What I hate: I hate fishnets on a young girl, I hate Daisy Dukes/hot pants on a young girl, and I hate that the magazine used that one shot of her grabbing her heel. It would be sultry if it was a 29-year-old. Because it’s a 13-year-old, it’s bordering on “too much.”

Nothing new or inappropriate here, but her youth makes the clothes look “aged” in a bad way. The contrast makes them look positively dowdy I think. If they look that old on a 13 year old, I’d hate to see them on a 40 year old woman.

The short shorts one is definitely inappropriate, it’s clearly a ‘look at my legs’ photo, and that’s not good for a 13 year old.
Her parents have done such a good job so far, I think they need to look at these photoshoots a little more closely and veto anything questionable.

I totally agree, Kaiser, too much.
Fashion and entertainment people lost touch with reality and sense of appropriateness.
Shouldn’t her mom and dad be vetoing some of those pics? Maybe they think it’s ok to prepare the public for her future as a grown up star like that? Isn’t it too soon? And why does everybody in the industry think “grown-up” = “sexy”?

Elle is such a beautiful girl, but if I didn’t know she was only 13 then I would put her at 16 -18 from these shots…
So agreed a bit too much, but hopefully like her older sister her parents are doing a good job with her work life and childhood balance and this is as ‘inappropriate’ as it gets

They try to hard to make her look 25. I know they can’t dress her like a 2 year old, it’d look fake either. I think she actually loves this look on her, we all wanted to look older at 13, but this shoot looks like it’s made more for pervs. That’s my honestly honest thought.

Yeah. I’m usually on the side of ‘dress as you like’, but… this is too young, too leggy, the eyeliner and mussed up hair… it’s icky.

Agree Kaiser that it’s too much. I’ve read that Dakota had a hard time breaking out of the little girl image that she had and these latest shoots make me think they want to ensure Elle doesn’t have that same problem.

I worked for over a decade with these “stage parents” types & their precious, little darlings. I styled those kids & judged many competitions. Dealing with the parents was the worst of all.

She was great in Super 8, I took my 13 year old girl and my 11 year old boy. Soooooo, if my gorgeous 13 year old looked like this, I’d kill her!
High heels are still for playing dress up unless it is a little wedge and she gets lipgloss and some mascara for premieres and stuff. Not fishnets, eyeliner and short-shorts with heels.
She can wear mini skirts with tights underneath.

I’ve seen 13 year olds dress a lot less appropriately than seen in these pictures.. She does look older, but that’s okay because I don’t see anything overtly sexual in these images. She looks gorgeous, too.

She really is a beautiful young girl. I have no problem with her styling for this shoot except for the one of her in the short-shorts grabbing her heel. She definitely does not look 13 in that photo and it makes me a little uncomfortable. I really hope she doesn’t grow up too soon and gets to enjoy her youth and innoncence.

There are so many styles for “tweens” these days that are still fun and don’t come off stodgy. Its upsetting to me that they put a 13 year old in grown women’s clothing that GROWN for a reason. Seriously enough already!

Her hand looks so childlike holding that glittery high heeled hooker shoe. It’s sad.
I guess that’s why she’s wearing gloves in the other pics w/hands by her face- it would’ve shattered the “adult” illusion.
I wouldn’t want pics of my daughter like the hooker shoe one or the “lolita” one from before.

she is stunning and beautiful… i wish i looked like her. i don’t think she looks good with her hair up in a tight way like pony tails or tight slick buns because her ears are kind of small and her head connects weirdly to her neck int he back… like it looks like it is flat or something
