Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise step out in matching suits (update: more photos)

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes didn’t get enough attention for their Sunday brunch with Katie’s parents and Tom’s permagrin-alike mom, so they stepped it up a notch yesterday with an outing to Barney’s to spend more of Tom’s barely-earned cash on overpriced luxury goods. The two donned matching suits and looked completely in sync apart from their vast height difference. They were out shopping at Hermes on Madison Avenue in NY.

Katie needs all the attention she can get. She’s been receiving lukewarm reviews for her Broadway performance, although ticket sales have been steady. Her cameo on Eli Stone premieres tonight.

MSat pointed me to this video on Perez Hilton’s site that shows Cruise pausing with Suri outside an ice cream store on 10/18. Perez suggests he’s exploiting Suri and they take too long with the photographers, but it looks to me like Cruise is just trying to be friendly and available to fans and can’t see that it’s making his daughter mildly impatient. There are plenty of photos of Suri looking incredibly upset out late at night with her parents and cowering from the paparazzi, including some below, although I don’t think the situation in the video that day was that difficult for her. You can tell she wants to get out of there, though. Look at the photos of her trying to pull her dad away.

If you’re a member of the Holmes-Cruise family, you’ve got to learn young that no one escapes the family duty to be available to the public. They’ve got to pay for those private jets and huge mansions somehow and at least Tom is gracious to his fans. Scientologists consider Suri a little person, and she’s only earning her keep.

Photos are of Katie and Tom last night out in NY and on Sunday with their family at Balthazar restaurant. Tom is shown with Suri out for ice cream on Saturday. Photo Credit: Bauergriffinonline.

Update: Here are more photos of Tom and Katie last night. There were at a cocktail party hosted by Hermes for the cast of All My Sons. Can you tell from the back who is who?

  1. Jeebus. Katie was a perfectly average, pretty young woman and the ZOAZ turned her into this freaky androgynous robot. And now his daughter wants to get away from him too.

I seriously doubt KatE and Tom make it another year. Please, KatE. RUN.

  5. why don’t they ever put that poor little girl in some overalls or something? she is always dressed like a doll and carted around like an accessory. seriously…have we ever seen suri in anything other than dresses?

  7. LOL! That pic of them from behind looks - most likely because of Katies androgyn figure - like a male couple with Tom being the girl. ;)

But generally, they are hard to tell apart.

  8. isnt it kinda chilly in NYC, whys that kid always got on short-sleeved dresses? GOD! put her in a sweatshirt and jeans for once!!! haha, that really bothers me!

  9. @ aleach - I wonder too! Everyone else is in long sleeves, even coats, it’s night time in New York where it must be pretty chilly, and there’s poor little frozen Suri wearing a short sleeved summer dress, no stockings, with a blanket halfway over her. They do make jackets and even coats for kids that size.

  10. The suits look different to me. Atleast Tom is gracious to fans and photogs. Why complain about his courtsey. He has the money, let him splash it.

  11. I really feel sorry for this little girl…it’s a damn shame! All the cute coats and pant outfits out there (i.e. Baby Gap/Old Navy/Children’s Place) there are SO MANY stores that sell cute Fall/Winter clothes for little girls and boys…but in this case GIRLS! Hell, and they have so much damn money, it really doesn’t make sense why Suri has to look like a little “Ragga Muffin!”

  12. The only difference btwn the two is height and the thing btwn her legs.

  13. Hell, they could even put a pair of tights & a little sweater with Suri’s dress & she’d be so much warmer.

I actually like Kat(i)e’s suit, but it is sooooo weird that they are morphing into each other :shudder:

  14. It’s It’s effing FREEZING in New England… I worry about little Suri. I never see her dressed appropriately for the weather. Every day it’s a short sleeved light weight fabric dress! Seriously, can someone not call DSS to investigate how this child is being neglected at the very least, and more seriously abused at most!

  15. Jumping on the ‘underdressed’ train, if it’s cold enough for everyone else to be wearing jackets and coats and long trousers etc, how can this little child possibly be warm enough? Something very odd and slightly disturbing here.

  16. Suri’s trying to choke him in one pic and run for her life in another. At least her instincts are right.

Why the hell don’t her parents cut or pull back her bangs?

And as precious as they do look, those aren’t matching suits.

  17. God, they really are grasping at straws aren’t they. What a sad caricature of what they once were. Give it up kids and call it a day.

  19. Katie used to have such a great personality. What a shame.

I will never believe that Suri is his child. I see more Katie and a little bit of Chris Klein in her.

  20. I’m not trying to hate on this couple. I’m really not, but someone tell me why, oh why, does he always seem like he’s desperately trying to hold on to her? And has he always grinned so maniacally?

Note to Tom: You’re an actor. ACT less crazy/desperate.

  21. Um, I think cb meant the COLOR of the suits matched. It’s obvious they’re not EXACT suits. sheesh

You know what gets me as much as the dressing your kid for June when it’s late October in NY? The fact that that kid is CLEARLY distressed by the circus around her, and Cruise and Katie smile like idiots while their child is so traumatized she has her whole face covered. It’s not NORMAL or GOOD that a 2 year old is covering her face from people. They are so self-absorbed that they only care about the cameras pointing at them and not the fact that they are hurting their kid.

And are people still going to argue that it’s only at night when she’s blinded by the bulbs that she acts like that? It’s broad daylight in these pictures.

  22. Katies Holmes used to be a very cute actress. Remember the pictures of her and Tom when they frist got together? Is she trying too hard to follow the look of Victoria Beckham? She has truly lost her own style. Bring back the old Katie, we all liked her better!!

Also, where are the other 2 kids that Tom and Nicole adopted? Who do they live with? No one ever sees them with either parent.

  23. Lainey had photos on Monday with Michelle Williams and Matilda in New York. Both of them were wearing great fall coats, tights and Matilda had the cutest pompom hat! I get cold just looking at Suri, maybe we should chip in and buy the girl a winter coat…

  25. All you criticizers, shut upy your mouths ! Just to let you know, the cold climate exposure rundown is very good for kids. Well known research has shown that kids who can bear colder temperatures on their skin have an average of 45 (45!) less body thetans per square inch. Show me any research that shows different. This will make a huge difference in Suri’s later auditing. Please before you speak about well known Ron Hubbard Tech do us a favor, look in the mirror and say “I will shutty uppy my mouth!”

  27. Ok Henry, i see where you’re going with the cod-Sea Org spiel. I commend the effort, but perhaps it could do with a little bit more refining. For example a true Sea Org commander wouldn’t tell us to shut upy our mouths - they’d just tell us we’re paedophiles

If they can afford multiple Hermés Birkin bags, they can afford one cardigan for a toddler. I don’t mind the pretty dresses, but at this time of year, put the damn coat on the child.

And that *presenting Kate Holmes grasp* that Tom does is really really really annoying me

  31. I used to just wave off the pictures of Suri underdressed for the weather. I remember my own kid had a terrible aversion to putting on her overthings when it was time to go out. We spent a lot of her 2nd year putting blankets over here to dash out to the car…because sometimes, you just have to NOT choose the battle if you want to get anything done.

That said…we NEVER took her awalk in the cold without a sweater or hat or at least, for God’s sake, a long sleeved shirt. She had tights on her legs under her little dresses and she had sweaters and jackets…whether she screamed in protest or not…when we spent any extended period of time (read: more than a run between car and building) in the winter cold.

There are now too many pictures from too many different types of activity for me to think that they are just doing what we had to do with my own kid. This little girl is never dressed for the weather.

I don’t care if she’s always in dresses. Kids like what they like, and they like dressing in certain things. If Suri is an “I only want to wear dresses” girl, then more power to the family who can afford to indulge that all the time. But cover her limbs and get her some hats and sweaters.

  32. I don’t see much problem in her wearing dresses all the time. What’s wrong with always wearing dresses? Little *boys* up to age four were put in dresses until the late, late 19th century.
    The cowering-away-and-covering-her-face bit…THAT’S what’s disturbing.

  33. My daughter LOVES dresses and pretty much refuses to wear anything else, so I’ve never thought there was anything weird about the fact that we never see Suri in jeans and a sweater. Until now, that is! Yeesh, TomKat, you’re her PARENTS! You have the power! Buy a pair of stockings and a coat for the poor kid, and insist that she wear them. And while you’re at it, she might like a balaclava, too — at least then, she wouldn’t have to shield her own face from the papparazzi, since you’re apparently too inept to do it for her.

  34. Meh…I wish I had their money. I’d retire. I hate going out. I have an 8 year old an a 2 year old and hopefully one day may have another. My most fun is staying at home and playing with my kids and watching them experiance things for the first time. It’s great. If I were them I would have faded away a long time ago and had the most fun of my life now with the kids. But us pooor people must scrape away to make a living and sacrafice time away from work to have fun with our family.

  35. I do not understand the whole Katie Holmes thing. She’s pretty, in sort of a forgettable way. There’s nothing wrong with her body, but it kind of resembles a teenage boy’s. She’s an okay actress. Why is she some sort of icon?! Frankly, there are more stylish women in my office.

  37. @ henry kolowski-um what?

anyways, well im in atlanta and its fricken COLD here at nite, even during the day its getting a little cooler so, i can imagine its even colder in NYC.
but if tom & kate put a big coat on her, the paparazzi wouldnt be able to get a very good shot of her all bundled up for the weather, huh? theyre weird
i saw a video the other day of tom and suri. they were leaving a restaurant and of course a ton of paps outside, tom stopped outside of his car, holding the little girl, and seriously posed there with the door open for like 2 mins. RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIS WAITING CAR! standing there, with suri, just so they could get a shot! i mean what the hell!

  38. Such a huge change in so few years. I was told through out HS that I looked like Katie, back in the Dawson’s Creek days. Back when she was cute, vibrant, and it was actually a compliment. Now she’s got as much sex appeal as Hilary Swank in ‘Boys Don’t Cry’. Seriously, he’s robbing her of her womanhood, in a few years it’ll be like looking at Bea Arthur.

  39. Ruh-roh. Just caught a few minutes of KatE’s performance on Eli Stone. Very, very rough. I’m not just talking about the acting either - she’s aged ten years since she’s been with Cruise.

  40. They’re probably not dressing her up in warm clothes just to see how physically enduring Suri can be…how fast she can get catch the cold, then they can scrutinise her and reprogramme her again…YOUCHHH

  41. late to the party here, @anastasiabee, I used to think the same when ol’ ZOAZ insisted on calling Nicole “Nic”. Also, 100% agree with all the posts that feel Suri inappropriately dressed for the weather. WTF, she’s a little girl, barely not a baby. If some welfare mom was treating her kid this way, out all hours, under dressed for season, constant repeated exposure to stressful situations etc. people would be all over it. These two are real ass hats.

  42. yeah ok i’m cracked out *rolls eyes*

i think the negativity they faced due to the flop gigli had a lot to do with it. in fact, people predicted they would separate after that, and they did…

i don’t see how you can logically say that it wouldn’t affect a couple if the entire public has animosity toward them. people break up because the inlaws don’t accept the new addition to the family… much less having to face contempt by the entire public and being deemed “weird” no matter waht you do…
