Amy Winehouse hospitalized for chest and lung testing again

Living hard sure has caught up to Amy Winehouse early on. Of course she’s done 30 years of rock star-worthy partying in the span of about 24 months. Winehouse has a myriad of medical problems resulting from her excessive smoking and drug use. In June she was hospitalized for an emphysema-like condition, which has variously reported to be real emphysema or early symptoms of emphysema. Depending on if you asked her dad, who likes to soft-pedal things, or anyone else.

Now People is reporting that Amy’s back in the hospital for more tests on her chest and lungs.

Singer Amy Winehouse was hospitalized Saturday for tests on her chest and lungs, her London spokesman confirms to PEOPLE. The 25-year-old singer – who was hospitalized in June with a severe lung ailment – had a doctor visit her at home Thursday.

Then, over the weekend, “they wanted to do some tests as a precaution,” her spokesman Chris Goodman told PEOPLE. “Obviously she had lung and chest problems which she had treatment for not so long ago, so they’re just making sure.”

Winehouse’s father, Mitch, has previously said that the singer’s lungs are “all gunked up” from smoking cigarettes and crack cocaine. The troubled singer was taken to the London Clinic, where earlier this year she was treated for drug problems. “She’s fine,” Goodman said on Monday. “Should be back home today.”

It seems pretty clear that Amy is either getting better or near the end of the line. She’s hardly been out drinking, drugging, or punching anyone in a month. That means things are either getting a lot better or a lot worse, and since it’s all happening behind closed doors, we have no way to know which it is. Though generally speaking a hospitalization – no matter how minor – makes me think things are headed for the worse. Especially looking at these most recent pictures of Amy.

Here’s Amy out for the first time in weeks according to Bauer-Griffin – who also says she’s on her way to rehab. Images thanks to Bauer-Griffin.

    It’s amazing when you look at the picture of her left profile to see how pretty she really is. If only she could get herself together.

    :P she’s not, xia. Just wearing a brown padded jacket and black trousers. It’s cold here. So no rehab then…?

    She actually looks BETTER than usual. She’s wearing comfy sweats (hey, it beats her usual bra and shorts), smiling, doesn’t look high, and doesn’t have all the terribly-applied eye makeup on.

    You gotta wonder why the poor child hates her own hair so much as to always have it either tied up in an unflattering Aunt Fanny do-rag, or covered up with a ratted bunch of partial wigs.

    Poor woman, she’s such a mess. I hope the hospital stay does her some good, because by the looks of these pictures… things aren’t looking too great.

    I’m thinking Amy is seriously sick and the drugs are her escape. Why bother moderating if you’re going to die from cancer anyway?

    @vdantev
    You think she’s already sick? Like before all this drug addiction started? I’ve never heard that before, but that’s a good theory… I never thought of that. Did you read it somewhere?

    She has to go to rehab first and then she must be locked up in her room with only a bed to keep her away from drug, parties and alcohol. The next step is She must go see a head doctor to get into her brain and find out what made her this way. After that a hair stylist, makeup artist, a fashion designer and a life coach. And then i think she will be a better person.

    Nope Ophelia, just pulled it out of the air. It’s an explanation that fits the circumstances, but I have nothing to base it on.

    It’s interesting…the last we really heard about Amy was that the church of scientology had been reaching out to her. Here she is a few weeks later looking sober and a tad less haggard, shadowed by a much older woman who seems more like a guard than a friend. Maybe she got a new “best friend.”
