Last night, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge did a charity event for the National Memorial Arboretum Appeal, which is raising money for the Arboretum which honors fallen soldiers. The event took place at St. James Palace, the residence of the Prince of Wales. Kate wore this Jenny Packham dress that some people are trying to say is “baggy” because they want her to be pregnant. Now, she might be preggo, that I don’t know. What I do know is that she’s just as thin as ever, so if she is knocked up, she’s still in the early stages and she isn’t showing right now. One of the reasons I’m doubting Kate’s alleged pregnancy? It was just announced that Will is going to be doing a six-week posting in the Falkland Islands next year, beginning in January. Will and Kate will be separated for weeks and weeks! Whatever will she do? Oh, right. She’ll WAIT for him. Like she did for nine years. William is “joining a crew of three other RAF personnel as part of his training and advancement as a Search and Rescue pilot…All RAF Search and Rescue pilots routinely deploy to the Falkland Islands, on a rolling basis, as part of their training and career development.” God, William certainly needs a lot of training for a job he’s going to quit in a year or so? Am I the only one bothered by that? It costs a lot of money to train a soldier/pilot that extensively, and it’s not even going to be his career in two years’ time. That bugs. That money would be better spent as an investment in someone who is going to make it a career.
Meanwhile, in other Middleton Mania news, the British tabloids are reporting that Pippa and Alex Loudon are totally done for good now. I don’t feel like recapping the whole sordid history of their relationship, so here are the basics: Pippa and Alex were dating for a few years before Kate and Will’s wedding. After the wedding, Pippa became her own commodity, and she dumped Alex and looked for an upgrade. She set her sights on the future Duke of Marlborough Northumberland, and she’s waiting him out. Until then, she went back to Alex. Looks like the future Duke is interested now, right Uptradey?
A source tells The Sun: “Pippa tried to get over the split by spending last weekend with Wills and Kate at Balmoral. She and Alex split briefly in the summer — but this time it’s over. They are barely speaking. It was said after the wedding that Alex was jealous of Pippa flirting with Prince Harry. But the truth is she and Harry are just mates.” They also say that Alex couldn’t deal with Pippa’s “sex symbol” status. Her? Really? It’s kind of cute that Pippa wants to be a duchess now too.

Well, if he DIDN’T pursue a career, people would be on his ass about that. As long as this is his job, he should train like anybody else. It’s a dangerous job, and one that demands smarts and skills, and I say kudos to Will for wanting to use his abilities for more than ribbon-cutting ceremonies the rest of his life. He’ll be living an even more gilded existence for the next 50-odd years, so why not take this opportunity to be part of the “real world” and save a few lives while he’s at it? His experience can only be an asset to him as he takes on more royal duties and eventually ascends the throne.
I’m more fascinated by Will’s hair. He seems to be having some sort of treatment that makes it grow. I wonder if he’s really getting hair transplant treatments while he’s “been on base”.
Kate has nice eyes. She also has man-hands.
For someone so thin and slight, she walks like a linebacker. Bizarre.
But, oh yes, let us all pity poor Waity. However will she survive his 6-week training? Nevermind military spouses that are away from their husband/wife for years while they are in actual combat regions. You’d think this would be the perfect time for her to announce she’ll be patron of some charity that supports military families…but I won’t hold my breath!
I’m sure she’ll be able to keep busy going to the opera with her darling dad-in-law, shopping on high street and getting her weave seen to.
I’m actually surprised Wills is going since Argentina doesn’t seem too happy about this – seems like a possible political hot-potato and I thought royals were supposed to stay away from political hot-potatoes.
Also, Waity, please eat something, for the love of god. Your arms are scaring me and – judging by past pictures when you actually looked healthy – I don’t think your body is meant to be so thin. We all know that Kate is good at waiting for Will, no problem there. I am sure there would be a lot of Royal duties to keep her busy until Will returns.

Well, I’d certainly love it if Kate yelled, “Hey, Queen! I’m blowing this popsicle stand. Deal with it!” and spent those 6 weeks drinking tequila & banging cabana boys on a Mexican beach.
But I’m pretty sure that whether you’re a traditional royal housewife, or a fiercely liberated CEO of your own corporation, if your spouse has to go away for for some job-related reason, you wait. That’s what people in committed relationships do.
As far as the military training – you’re right, it’s B.S. But I imagine that, especially in this day & age, the monarchy is self-conscious about being seen as a bunch of do-nothing parasites who have no purpose & are just there to be looked at. And that’s particularly shameful for a man, who is expected to prove himself in some way.
Also, William’s father, grandfather, and great-grandfathers all received considerable military training (I don’t know if they were actually permitted to fight in WWII or the Falklands War). I don’t know if it’s a requirement, but it’s obviously a strong tradition in this family.
Kaiser, I think she has her sights set on George Percy, the future Duke of Northumberland. He’s the one she used to live with and dated at one time.

I know people always complain that Kate never does anything. But you have to admit, in the past couple of weeks, she’s been doing a lot of events. I feel like we’ve been seeing her and Will doing some charity work at least once a week. She always is with Will, but she did do one event solo. And I’m sure when William is away, she’ll be doing a lot more by herself. In fact I think the reason they have been doing so many events together lately is to prepare her for that time while William is away.
I love Kate’s dress–so much better than that red mess she wore a few weeks ago. I read on some fashion blog it’s apparently similar to a Jenny Packham dress Angelina Jolie wore in red.

Lee – it’s quite common for Royal males to do some military training. Prince Harry is doing it, Prince Andrew fought in the Falklands, and even Prince Edward had a stint (though not very successful).
I don’t think William is doing this as a PR exercise at all, I think he’s just following hundreds of years of tradition, and I admire that he’s continuing to work and be trained.

I just notes that the silver dress Kate is wearing in the top photo is the same dress Angelina Jolie wore in red months back at the LA TOF premiere just a different color. She must really like Angelina Jolie style because this is the second or third dress she copied.

I’m starting to like William. He seems to be into his rescue pilot job. He really comes across as trying to work hard and liking what he does. Also he seems not to be a yes man person. Meaning yes queen/grandmonther. he tries to accommodate his choice of a wife into the royal thing.
He still looks to me like he feels stuck.
I think the dress is great! On Kate nothing will look quite good until she puts some more meat on those manly bones of her. Years back she looked feminine and healthy. I like the way they fixed her hair!

@ Ponytail – Maybe “PR exercise” isn’t quite the right term – perhaps “noblesse oblige”? I think that purely on a symbolic level, it “seems right” for royals to perform national service. With great wealth/power comes responsibilities, and all that.

The dress itself is very nice, but the overall look on her is a huge miss. It’s pooling at her feet and she seems to be drowning in it. The dress is wearing her.
She’s shrunk to such a small size that the dress doesn’t have anything to cling onto, except her wide, bony shoulders.

Where is her upper body? It’s like her torso and waist are almost non-existent. Combined with her poor posture of thrusting her pelvis out, she looks like a PEZ dispenser with her huge head on a teeny tiny body, and her dress hanging from her wide shoulders only. She doesn’t even have boobs anymore. She looks like she’s continuing to lose even more weight and she has no body fat left.
Her arms still look big and muscular because she’s not naturally thin, she’d still look big even if she’s weighing 110 lbs because her bones are big. But for Kate’s real body type (she used to weigh more and looked healthier 2 years ago) she’s very, very, very thin now.

Her makeup is so awful. She’s too orange from tanning. Too much blush that wasn’t blended in and looks like two big circles on her cheeks, the damn eyeliner is again too much, her eyebrows are too heavily lined, and it looks like she didn’t even properly apply powder on because her skin is so oily.
I get that she wants to do her own makeup, but 95% of the time she looks like she puts on her makeup with boxing gloves on, such heavy hands. She can afford thousands of $$$$ for her hair and wardrobe, but she won’t cough up the money for a professional makeup artist? She looked awful on her wedding day because she did her own makeup.
As for William leaving for 6 weeks, Kate will survive. She’s already mastered the “art” of waiting and lazing about for 10 years, that 6 weeks without William is peanuts for her. She’ll have her shopping, hair salon, and partying ‘appointments’.
Don’t be too sure that she’s actually going to do any royal duty for the next 6 weeks. She can’t even stand on the right spot without William telling her where to go, and she can’t go anywhere with him without looking like a lost puppy, always following him around and gazing adoringly at him. I doubt the Palace would also let her do her own events that would require more than dressing up, posing, and making small talk without a public speech or interview. We’ve already discovered that she’s got no common touch (victims of the London riots visit), and she can’t string a simple but coherent statement together (UNICEF event).
No, Kate will continue to be in London living her luxurious life, and will be renovating their rooms in Kensington Palace. She’ll be indulging herself while the rest of the taxpaying public struggle with the economy.
George Percy will not marry Pippa. I doubt his family will be thrilled with that match. Those nobles are a stickler for tradition, more so than the royals. While the royals had to change and modernize themselves to be more closer to the public, the nobles and aristocrats didn’t have to do such a thing, so they still associate with the same wealthy families, and their children marry equally wealthy people without the baggage of social climbing and hunger for media attention. I doubt Percy’s family would welcome such a ‘media storm’ when it comes to Pippa. Those nobles can be such snobs and are very, very private. I don’t think Percy is even angling for Pippa. They were rumored to be together, and nothing came of that except she ended up working for Percy, and she had to go back to Alex Loudon.
@Miladie29: that’s exactly the thing-she lives off taxpayers money and when she has to represent us for a minute….she can’t formulate a sentence. UNICEF video was a mind blowing statement: with all the support I am sure palace is given her when she needs to prepare for an event, with all the media she was exposed to for years and years now, she can’t formulate a sentence. Which I’m sure was written for her before hand. Something like: hey if they do get to ask you something, mostly they will ask you this and that and you can say this and that.
I’m sure at some point she will give a “perfect speech” prepared by someone else.
I personally couldn’t care less how she looks. Kinda weird that people think she doesn’t need therapy. STAT…. for her eating disorder. Make up, dress whatever….but not being able to speak with a sweaty willie next to you! Gimme a break!

The reason Kate doesn’t do more is because the royal family doesn’t want her to. It seems to me that the royal family views her as an idiot who cannot handle herself in public. They don’t trust her to speak appropriately, and are worried she’ll embarrass them, and that’s why they don’t let her do anything meaningful.
And I don’t for a minute believe William “loves” her and is simply protecting her. He wouldn’t have dumped her the way he did after stringing her along for so long. Then he tested her to see if she’s a true doormat, and she passed the test: she came running back as soon as he called despite the poor way he treated her. THAT is what he wanted in a wife, and that’s what he got. I’m sure he is HAPPY with the marriage, but that does not equate to him loving Kate. You can’t love someone you don’t respect.
It must be hard living with people who look down on you. Maybe that’s why Kate starves herself and shops a lot.

Well, how quickly the appeal of a 10-year up-and-down relationship ends when the brouhaha of a worldwide-viewed wedding and “honeymoon” to Canada and L.A fades. Canada was made out to be this huge romantic trip where William would “whisk” Catherine away for private time but it is quite possible things aren’t peachy keen anymore for some weird reason and their recent trip to Denmark really brought that to light when I saw them compared to Frederik and Mary.

I don’t know what they see in each other. Ok, I get what Kate sees in William (wealth, title). But I don’t get what William sees in Kate. She’s not that great looking, doesn’t seem to have sense of humor, doesn’t seem very bright, doesn’t have any ambitions outside of marrying a rich man, and doesn’t have a lot of self-esteem. The ONLY thing I can think of is she really is a geisha at his beck and call. If THAT is what he wanted in a wife, I’ve lost respect for him too.
As weird as this sounds, I get what Charles and Camilla see in each other, I don’t doubt their marriage.
