Connie Britton of American Horror Story adopts a baby boy

fp_6631912_rij_the_rite_53_
I don’t know much about Connie Britton from “American Horror Story,” but I love watching her every week. (She was also in “Friday Night Lights,” which I’ve heard is awesome but haven’t seen.) She’s a great actress, and I enjoy the fact that she’s a little older and that she hasn’t messed with her face from what we can see. Plus she’s beautiful and I covet her hair. I have long reddish blonde hair too, and I’ve been curling mine more after seeing how great Britton’s hair looks on that show. Anyway Britton just adopted a baby boy from Ethiopia. She’s 44 and is divorced, having split with her first and only husband to date when she was just 29. I found a Redbook interview she did in 2009 where she said she was dating a comedy writer named Jason Mantzoukas. (Mantzoukas co-starred with her in a movie that premiered at film festivals earlier this year called Conception and I guess he’s also been a guest star on “Parks and Recreation.”) I can’t confirm whether she’s still with him, though. Here’s more on her new baby:

For years, Connie Britton has been hard at work on her acclaimed show Friday Night Lights and most recently on the new hit American Horror Story.

But the actress, 44, has just been cast in her most rewarding role yet: Mom. She’s adopted a 9-month-old baby boy from Ethiopia, Britton tells PEOPLE exclusively.

After a three-year-long adoption process, the actress’s dream of motherhood came true about a week ago, after she returned from the African country with her son Yoby โ€“ a nickname for Eyob, his given name.

“I am thanking my lucky stars every day,” Britton, 44, tells PEOPLE.

The day she first held her son in her arms was something the new mom will never forget.

“It was such a wonderful moment of completion,” she says. “I thought I was going to collapse into a puddle of tears. I was just grinning from ear to ear.”

[From People]

That’s awesome, congratulations to her! Britton told Redbook in 2009 that she was looking forward to maybe remarrying at some point and having children. She said “I do feel like I would get married again, and I still want to have kids.” She also said that hitting her 40s has helped her slow down and appreciate life. “There isn’t this mania to get everything so right. Now what I really want to do is just enjoy my life and fill the moments with living, with people I love, things I enjoy, and work that inspires me.”

Britton’s character on “American Horror Story” may have a child soon too. Her character Vivian Harmon is currently pregnant, and it’s being foreshadowed on the show that it’s some kind of demon spawn. I’m kind of fascinated by that show but it’s gradually losing it’s appeal for me. They use every horror movie cliche in the book, and just when I think they’re ready to dial it back a notch they throw in some more complicated plot points. They’re walking a very fine line between being campy and scary.

I loved her back in her Spin City days, and I think she’s beautiful. Good for her!

  2. Katyusha says:

    Love American Horror Story!
And I love Connie Britton – think she’s so beautiful.

  3. Bite me says:

Congrats to Connie ๐Ÿ™‚ peace and blessings to her little one

  4. Cheyenne says:

@CB: Ditto on the show and I hope they don’t cliche it to death because some of the scenes had me scared shitless. Good horror programs never seem to last long on TV. American Gothic was another one.

  5. Audrey says:

I love her too, but hate her extensions on AHS. Her hair on the show is distracting. Just let her natural hair do the work!

  6. lolo says:

You GOTTA watch Friday Night Lights! It’s such a great show. Coming from a woman who doesn’t like teenage boys, football, or Texas, I LOVE it. She is so fabulous as Mrs. Coach. Congrats on the baby Connie!

  7. Jackson says:

AHS is one of the few shows I watch and I agree, it is treading a fine line as of late. Connie looks much prettier and fresher in these pics than she does on the show. I realize she’s gestating one of the devil’s minions but she looks kind of beat on AHS. Congrats to her and the new baby (the real life one.)

  8. the original bellaluna says:

Congrats to her! And I LOVE American Horror Story. *mild spoilers* (Y’all DO know that most of the people they see in the house are dead, right? And they all died there in that house? And I don’t just mean the ones they saw on Halloween.)

  9. tiredofrumers says:

love this woman. seems like she’s as awesome in real life as she was as tami taylor. congrats!

  10. Marni says:

I love the horror genre and have been watching the show, but its not doing it for me. I cant put my finger on why though. Maybe its because I just cant see the story being dragged out past one season, since the theme is ‘everyone in the house dies’.
I will continue to watch though as quality of acting is much better than your average horror movie.
    Congrats to Connie.

  11. Kim says:

Congrats to her & her baby boy!

  12. Kiki says:

LOVE HER! She has been a long time supportive of African causes and she’s hosted charity events for the African Children’s Choir, so she’s waiting for this a long time. I’m a big fan of hers and the whole FNL gang – so happy for her!

  13. Cheyenne says:

@ jackson: If you were gestating one of the devil’s minions, you’d look beat, too.

  14. JenWInd says:

I have heard that they will do a new family every year. I think that would be a great thing to see, plus, it gives the actors a chance to come back year after year after year.

I love her character on the show. I just hope she stays strong and conitunes to kick her cheatring husband to the curb!!!

  15. The Bobster says:

Good grief. This fashion accessory crap has been totally overdone. Are the imports cheaper than the American ones?

Could it be that (heaven forbid!) she just didn’t want to put a strain on her own body and produce one of her own?

  16. Shelly says:

I love American Horror Story, and I love Connie Britton! I think she is so damn beautiful and real looking. Way sexier than any of those wax actresses who refuse to age gracefully.

  17. Melissa says:

Wow #15, judge much? Women who have trouble getting pregnant and use technology (like IVF) to get pregnant get slammed for not adopting, and then women who adopt get slammed for not using their own bodies! Women who wait to find the right man and don’t get slammed for waiting too long, being too picky, or being single mothers, and women who have kids young and it doesn’t work out with the guy get trashed for being bad mothers or relying on society to help raise their kids. We can’t win (unless we’re lucky and actually find a decent guy at a time in our lives when we’re still fertile). Why is it always the woman’s fault!?

    Congratulations to Connie!

  18. lucy2 says:

LOVE her. CB, you must watch Friday Night Lights, it was so good, just a really beautiful, well acted show.
I was so happy for Connie finally getting an Emmy nomination for it, but this is even better news for her! Congrats to her and the baby!

I’m enjoying AHS (watched it mainly due to Connie being cast), but it’s a Ryan Murphy show, which means by next season it will probably be crap. I hope not, for Connie’s sake, but he does NOT have a good track record.

If she’s still dating that guy (doesn’t sound like it if he’s not mentioned regarding the adoption), he played Dennis Feinstein on Parks & Rec. His real name is Dante Fiero, but he changed it to Dennis Feinstein to be more exotic in Pawnee. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  19. sesame says:

You haven’t seen Friday Night Lights?!?! It’s probably the best show on television that sadly no one watched ๐Ÿ™ (along with …er… Everwood). Coach and Mrs. Coach are hands down two of the best tv characters created. CB, give it a shot and you’ll see how quickly you’ll get hooked. I don’t give two rat’s a$$ about football and I adored this series!

p.s. Connie Britton is a goddess, of course.

  20. TP says:

She is beautiful, and I love the show, although it’s almost too scary for me!

  21. Dave says:

Congrats on the new baby, Connie! (not that she reads these forums anyway)

Great show. Loving it. The latest episode, “piggy, piggy” was the best besides the pilot.

The acting is superb! Evan Peters (Tate) is freaking brilliant and I love his character, even though he kills schoolkids.
Connie Britton is awesome too. Not only is she ridiculously hot, but her Vivian character is great and intense. The whole demon baby thing is very intriguing…sick but intriguing!
And what can you say about Jessica Lange? Just excellent!
Being in western Canada, I don’t get access to FX yet, even though we have FX Canada. (up yours, Rogers cable!) However, been watching online and I can’t wait for tonight’s “open house” episode.

Hope AHS is around for a long time!

  22. Blue says:

Totally agree with #17, very well said. I watched 1 episode of AHS and it freaked me out (I don’t do scary anything)

  23. TP says:

Jessica Lange is giving the performance of a lifetime in this show. Absolutely superb.

ALL the actors are incredible. And Violet must be the real-life daughter of Vera Farmiga, right? She looks like her mom!

  24. Ruby Red Lips says:

    # 23, the actress who plays Violet is Vera’s little sis

I love AHS so far, it has the right mix of scare and drama and is just quirky

#15, the woman is 44, many women cannot concieve post late 30’s – you have no idea why she adopted, so you should prob try and be a little less judgemental unless u know all the facts

    Congrats on her little boy!!

  25. Hautie says:

I love AHS. And it would be nice if maybe there was a post for it weekly. ๐Ÿ™‚

I have so many questions, each week after it airs. And no one to ask!

And with the ending of last weeks episode and finally getting the full scoop on Tate… and that crazy house. I need some input from others.

  26. Penguin says:

Ahs is a good show but compared to the walking dead it’s a bit tame. They def need to make it scarier.

  27. tracking says:

Adoption if a beautiful thing. All good wishes for teh very lovely CB and her little bundle of joy!

  28. Camille says:

She is gorgeous and congrats to her and the little one. All the best ๐Ÿ™‚

  29. lucy2 says:

Hautie – I don’t know if you’ve ever checked out the message boards on E’s website, but the Watch With Kristin TV discussion board is awesome, and has a running AHS discussion thread. I’ve been posting there for years, and everyone there is shockingly nice and fun.

  30. MorticiansDoItDeader says:

AHS is a cross between The Shining and Rosemary’s baby with a Columbine Twist.

@Dave, I agree. Tate is the best part of the show and I can’t wait to see how the Tate/Violet dynamic plays out.

@ruby red, @the original Bella, we must watch all the same shows! Ringer, AHS. Do you ladies watch The Walking Dead too?

  31. Cheyenne says:

@ #15: Calling an adopted child a fashion accessory is despicable.

Congratulations to Connie and the baby.

  32. stephanie says:

    FNL = best show ever.

  33. whatever says:

This woman is SUCH a bitch in person. Dont confuse characters with real life personalities. She is SO NOT NICE and I cant stand these celebrities that suffer from entitlement-itis.

  34. padiddle says:

love AHS!! I think Walking Dead is really lacking this year – all the characters are so rote and the situations are just boring. That’s just my opinion, though.

Jason Mantzoukas is on the League. He also does a really funny podcast with Paul Scheer and his wife called “How Did this Get Made?” Where they watch and discuss really bad movies (see I Know Who Killed Me)

The fact that she dated him makes me like her more. He is hilarious.

  35. jc126 says:

I liked FNL, but I really didn’t care for her character, or most of the female characters. I felt like the writers didn’t have a great feel for female roles. Sorry.
And I can’t believe she was in that awful, execrable, POS Nightmare on Elm Street remake. That was just awful, dreadful, garbage.
But congrats on the baby, of course!

  36. Elysse says:

#23…that’s actually Veras Farmigas younger sister!

Love LOVE this show!! Hope it doesn’t get cancelled.

  37. NM9005 says:

44? Wow, she looks banging =).
Good for her and the little one. More people should adopt. I would rather adopt a Chinese girl or from Romania.

  38. Bess says:

I’m SO happy for her! She seems like the most lovely person in interviews! And I bet Mrs. Coach will make a great mother.

  39. Betty says:

I love Connie b so much. great as Tammy Taylor in fnl (truly an archetype of a mother in modern age) and in the movie Lather Effect. love it…keep it on my tivo for treats

  40. Cheyenne says:

@TP: Watching AHS right now. Totally co-sign on Jessica Lange. She is unbelievable.

  41. midnightmoon says:

Ms. B first caught my eye in a movie directed by Edward Burns-his first, I believe. She was great, a really vivid performance. The first photo on this post looks so unlike her, I thought she had messed w/her face, but I think it’s just a bad photom I always thought she was gorgeous, and I guess she still is. Good luck to her.

At #15, not quite sure where you found that observation, but trust me-NO ONE goes through adoption unless they have a MAJOR commitment-it is grueling, expensive, and heartwrenching, soo beyond rollercoaster ride, with your heart completely at risk if it fails. And adoption, afteerwards, can be a very challenging experience.

Don’t know if you have any clue at all about what it’s like, but maybe you rreeally just don’t know jack about it, and if that’s the case, maybe find another way to express your distaste.

    I hope all goes well.

And to the one who says she’s a bitch, do spill the deets. If she is, she’s one amazing actress-her warmth, or according to you, her ability to project warmth, is so tangiible.

Sorry for the typos, as the text is not warapping so I’m typing blind.

    Be well all.

  42. woopidoo says:

yeah she was great in spin city!!

  43. Str8Shooter says:

Beautiful woman, and love her in AHS. It is SO refreshing to see a woman aging gracefully like her, without a jacked up face and silicon all over her body.

  44. the original bellaluna says:

TP – Actually, she’s Vera’s youngest sister. (I believe there are 6 children in the Farmiga fam.) And Jessica Lange is lovely/creepy in this role.

Morticians – Yes, but I’m catching up from season 1 – just got Dish today – YAY!

  45. ToastedSkin says:

@sesame I agree with every single thing you said.
Good for her, Eyob is such a cute name too. It’s the equivalent of Jacob in Arabic.

  46. marvelle says:

Connie Britton is a good actress and a beautiful women/person as well loved Friday Night Lights and just about any-thing else she’s been in
