I consistently don’t “get” the Rosie Huntington-Whiteley thing. I understand why certain models are famous among women – they have that Linda Evangelista chameleon quality, and they’re stunning models overall, like Coco Rocha or Stella Tennant. And I understand why certain models are famous with men – those are the girls who are really sexy or they have amazing figures, like Doutzen Kroes or Brooklyn Decker. But Rosie? She’s not an androgynous chameleon, nor is she really a “bombshell” in my opinion. She’s tall and slender and she has big lips and a rather strange “look” overall. I don’t get it. Neither does Rosie, apparently. She’s interviewed in the new issue of Harper’s Bazaar, and she talks about how she’s always been rather funny-looking:
Rosie wasn’t always model material: “I was a bit of an Ugly Betty when I was 15,” she says. There she was, a teenager on a farm in Devon, England, dreaming of the glamorous life in London, when she took an internship at a modeling agency, “getting coffee, lighting people’s cigarettes.” It wasn’t until she visited the agency months later and met a new agent that she booked her first job. Not So Ugly Rosie would turn up at castings “in trainers, with braids, a ton of makeup, plucked eyebrows.” Sigh. “I had braces.” The braces, and her baby fat, didn’t stick around. Huntington-Whiteley’s “transition” period happened at 18, when she moved to New York and quickly scored a Victoria’s Secret deal.
The Victoria’s Secret wings: About those mythical wings, she says, “I’d love to wear them for a fancy-dress party sometime. People assume I have wings hanging all over my house, but that,” she says reassuringly, “is not the case.” While the wings don’t exactly scream Steinem, “It’s still such a huge thing for a model.” She adds, “People kind of laugh about it and think it’s irrelevant, but I don’t know a girl in the world who would put those wings on and not feel, just for a split second, very special.”
She’s the new face of Burberry: “To be 21, working with Mario Testino and Christopher Bailey, it was a milestone moment,” she says. This past fall, her bodacious Burberry Body billboard was splashed all over venues as diverse as Herald Square in New York and the Musée d’Orsay in Paris (giving new meaning to impressionism). How many trenches does a Burberry campaign earn a girl, anyway? “I counted the other day; I have 12.” Based in L.A., where she lives with her boyfriend, action star Jason Statham, Huntington-Whiteley is navigating her next transition carefully. “It’s interesting coming from modeling, where women rule the industry, into one where there are so few great female parts and the competition is so much higher.”
Ironic runway walks: Now, though, Huntington-Whiteley has ascended to a level of celebrity where she can model ironically. At parties, she’s been known to rock a runway walk or two. “There’s always a moment when some great song comes on and everyone’s like, ‘Do the runway walk, Rosie!’ And you’re like, ‘No, no, no,’ and then you begrudgingly get up and do your thing.” But maybe she secretly loves it. “Yeah, it might be my little party trick. It always gets applause.”

I get the feeling that Rosie really doesn’t have that much to say about life in general. She’s trying to make herself into a victim of something, which is why she continues to ring the “I had a difficult childhood” bell – in addition to her repeated claims that she was “bullied” in her early days as a model. Maybe those things are true – but chica is only 24 years old, you know? Whatever happened to her in her “childhood” or her “early years” happened very quickly and then stopped.

You don’t get an internship at a modelling agency if you’re ugly. You just don’t. It’s a superficial industry and, even with braces (which I think are sexy as hell on some)someone said – Damn, she’s gonna be a knockout. And someone else agreed. And here we are today.
Instead of doing interviews where she cries about her past, I’d like to see her doing interviews about how she donated some cash/time to a childrens hospital or heck, even opened up the Rose Huntington Center For Kids Who Can’t Read Good and Wanna Learn to Do Other Stuff Good Too.

Maybe the modeling company that picked her up thought that she looks like cameron diaz 2.0? But less hot. She just doesn’t have any striking features as a model. Not that that is a bad thing. A lot of victoria secret models are not interesting to look at. They just can fill out the bras and clothing.

Hasn’t this been the trend for several years now, to take a very unattractive girl and try to force us into believing she is gorgeous. I think it makes the modeling world feel better about themselves that they can take young girls and shape them into whatever they want. We live in a very sad pathetic society.

I think she is stunning. She has an unusual face, very unique. I can imagine that those pouty lips and high cheekbones wouldn’t have looked good on a young teenager, but she is definitely very striking now.

People are getting on rosie because she seems dumb as a box of rocks – probably, but nearly all the young actresses are the same they just get better pub and have more coaching; they talk in that curiously vapid idiom of pyschobabble and hollywoodese – on a side note, Rosie’s poses and outfits are yet another reason why models should be on the cover of fashion mags and featured in ad campaigns – I personally don’t want to see Julia Roberts for Lancome or Amber Heard for Guess – though Christy turlington for ROberto COin is perfect.

But as long as they fit the clothes, even ugly girls can model. With all the make-up (or for photos, photo-shop), the face doesn’t matter so much. As long as they fit the clothes (i.e, tall and thin).

I’m back and forth with this one. Sometimes I’ll think she’s pretty and other times she’s ugly. As for the lips, she’s doing something to the top lip. Google it and you can see that her top lip was much thinner. She’s also had a major dental overhaul. Chicka’s teeth were busted before.

I don’t think she looks ugly – I think her looks are very striking (in a good way). However at 24, she has precious little to say that would interest me. She led a very insular life (it appears) centered on modeling, surrounded by other pretty people who are focused on looks. Not a surprise that she isn’t very introspective when you think of it. Maybe later – give it 10 years or so.
