Kirstie Alley: “Getting on a treadmill every day would make me slit my throat”

There are new photos of Kirstie Alley over at The Mail – she looks decent, but I think that’s mostly because she’s finally following my advice and dyeing her hair a darker brunette – it makes her look so much younger. Oh, and she’s also smoking a cig. That does not make her look younger, but I suspect that’s how she’s keeping some of the weight off – using cigarettes as an appetite suppressant. Fortunately for me, Kirstie is often photographed smoking, so it’s not like we don’t have lots of photo evidence of her current cigarette-based diet. Still, Kirstie is trying to convince us that she’s staying in shape by dancing.

Two months after revealing her new, 100 lbs.-lighter figure, Kirstie Alley is looking svelte and fabulous as ever, despite the pitfalls that come after losing weight.

“Maintenance probably is the hardest part,” Alley, 60, told PEOPLE at last night’s Dancing with the Stars. Her solution? Dancing.

“I dance almost every day,” says Alley, adding that her own run on the show “gave me something that I can do every day that I actually love that doesn’t feel like a hardship or a grind. Come on, getting on a treadmill every day would make me slit my throat.”

And she’s got her former dancing partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy to thank for keeping her exercise tedium at bay.

“To warm up, I do the cha cha that Maks and I did,” she says, adding that her current dance teacher does ballroom fitness with her, which “kicks your ass, it’s crazy.”

To supplement her dancing, Alley uses a weight loss product called Rescue Me that she also promotes. Thanks to it, she says, “I probably have more energy than I’ve ever had in my life.”

[From People]

“Getting on a treadmill every day would make me slit my throat…” Seriously? I find the treadmill so relaxing. I wish I could use it every day because I get to blast my music and daydream and get a decent workout on the treadmill. If I had to dance every day, I would… well, I wouldn’t slit my throat. But I would get seriously bored if I had to dance every day.

By the way, these photos are from early November… Kirstie IS gaining some weight back. Once again, that’s fine. But she’s so delusional, she probably thinks she’s holding at a “size 6”.

She looks huge and unkept. I get that she’s 60 but other older women are keeping it together and look better.

    • Turtle Dove says:

It’s the yo-yo up and down. It does take it’s toll on the body and looks. The smoking is terrible for the skin and incredibly unhealthy.

For her age, she looks good. It’s the silly size denial. KA needs to find her size and be happy with it. The number doesn’t matter.

      • Calli P says:

She’s going to burst the lap band with the compulsive eating. The frequent smoking is a sign of oral fixation. Agreed, the yoyo-ing is more unhealthy than being somewhat overweight. Being somewhat obese, but regularly active is much better than what she is doing, per studies.

To say that a treadmill would cause her to “…slit her throat…” is to me an admission that she has some introspective and emotional work ahead before she can be successful.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make her drink. Poor Kirstie.

  2. lucy2 says:

She still looks good, but I don’t think she’s down 100 lbs total. Either way, good for her for keeping it off.
Now she just needs to quit smoking.

  3. daisydoodle says:

that ain’t no size 6….all I can say after losing 100 lbs is lap band, it’s too extreme, especially for her. Happy Thanksgiving to all my bloggers!

    • Kimble says:

People rarely lose 100lb with a lapband – you need RNY or a DS!

      • Calli P says:

I just read on a site that people can lose 2-3# per week in the first 12 months, but 1# / wk is more likely. Clearly, her previous dancing exercise was way, way beyond the norm for the average execiser, causing greater loss than usual.

Anyhoo, she definitely seems unmotivated to continue the healthier habits she had.

    • Cheyenne says:

Size 6 my ass! That woman’s not an ounce smaller than a size 14.

Why can’t she just accept the size she is? 14 is the average size of women in America. If she’d do something with her hair and put on some clothes that fit she might even look good.

  4. k says:

Scientologists are so full of s_____. How can you ignore the fact that smoking (or drinking) is medicating? How convenient for them to leave those items out of their tenets.

  5. I.want.shoes says:

She’s going to need a lot more than dancing to keep that size “4” of her.

  6. Lisa says:

“Two months after revealing her new, 100 lbs.-lighter figure, Kirstie Alley is looking svelte and fabulous as ever, despite the pitfalls that come after losing weight.”

I’m sorry, I couldn’t get past that…and let me say something…I am a big girl and I have worked in retail FOR YEARS…and I know all the ends and out regarding body shapes/types/lines/ clothing, etc., and I will only say this…

Kirstie and I can wear each other’s clothes…and the only way we’re getting into a “6” is if you are putting a “1” in front of it…

    • WillyNilly says:

Yup. I’m a Banana Republic/Limited (aka very American-skewed) size 6 and I am half her size. I wonder which labels are switching out theirs to make her feel better about herself.

      • BabyCakes says:

Wasn’t there a story going around about how she would have her wardrobe people clip out the real size she wore and then sew in a smaller one when she was on Veronica’s Closet? As women it’s sad to be hung up on a number size.

    • 221jazz says:

Lisa you made me LOL! I love love your comment “”Kirstie and I can wear each other’s clothes…and the only way we’re getting into a “6″ is if you are putting a “1″ in front of it…””

  7. Denise says:

She looks terrible; and it is not the weight, it is her lack of style.

  8. CT says:

Ugh. I wish she could just be honest about her size. She looks fine, and I think it would be so wonderful to have someone just be honest for five freaking minutes about weight/size/etc.

    Sigh.

    • Lisa says:

      HERE HERE!!!

OWN your body!!! Embrace it…and thank GOD that it’s not back in the day, when the ONLY thing they had for big girls in terms of fashion was large tent dresses with English Tea Roses all over them!!! SIGH!!!

  9. jermsmom says:

I am going to admit that I love this woman, flaws, delusions, and all. She is wacky and crazy but I love her. However, the clothes…she makes some really unfortunate and unflattering style choices. I suggest her next stop for reality tv be “What Not to Wear”???

  10. theaPie says:

The treadmill is a straight-up soulsucker. I once ran 15 miles on one training for a marathon. The only thing that made it bearable was watching A Bug’s Life while doing it.

    • MerryHappy says:

Lmao! I totally agree. I cant run on the tredmill. I have to be outside to run or work out at home

      • tripmom says:

TOTALLY! If there is something more boring than running in one place for an hour staring at the same patch of wall I don’t know what it is.

    • KatScorp says:

I can’t even watch a movie while pounding away on the treadie; when I’m on an inside treadmill and I try to read a magazine or watch TV – or even focus on ONE spot on the wall – I lose my balance and tip sideways!

    • Cheyenne says:

I won’t even run for a bus. My momma once said, buses are like men — miss one, catch the next one.

  11. Kimbob says:

@k…hahaha! You’re SO RIGHT! I read this article & was about to comment on the very same thing, when I read that you basically, took the words right out of my mouth! LOL!

Oh yes, the joys of being a Scientolobot! Lots ‘o vitamins…especially B vitamins, and a POUND OF DELUSION to go w/the vitamins, alcohol & cigs!

  12. JPX says:

“Getting on a treadmill every day would make me slit my throat” , which is why you are fat. Perhaps you should take up smoking to add to your bad health, oops, wait a minute, I see you already have.

    • Carolyn says:

absolutely. She’d have to be dancing for hours each day to maintain such a large weight loss. Surely she’s had surgery. Treadmills are boring to some but they’re a great way to work out really hard and be done with it for the day. She sure hasn’t solved the problem of why she allowed herself to get so fat in the first place. LOL at the girl with her hair piled on top of her head…time to get your roots done!

  13. truthful says:

she’s been watching too much reality tv–why is she dressed like that??

I had no idea, that cult allows you to smoke and in public, no less, LOL!

  14. Anastasia says:

I agree with everyone else: she needs to own her size and her body. If she’s a 14-16 (which I suspect), SO WHAT? Own it, then SHUT UP ABOUT IT.

And dress nicely, comb your damn hair, stop making it (hair) look so harsh, stop smoking, wear some damn sunglasses outside, take a small bit of time with your appearance, then move on and enjoy life.

Good for her if she’s dancing, that’s great exercise.

    • snappy81 says:

Again, I have to agree. She looks rough to me, but it’s nothing a little personal grooming couldn’t fix.

  15. murt says:

Wow she is aging really well for a smoker. She looks great!

  16. palermo says:

I believe she had some sort of surgery or a lapband. She looks awful, smoke a few more thousand packs of ciggies, when you get cancer you’ll be as thin as you want Kirstie.

  17. Happy21 says:

This woman is delusional. There is no way she is a size 6. She is bigger than me and I am a size 10 and its nothing to be ashamed of! I look good and if she dressed a little nicer and took care of herself, she would too!

She makes me want to slit her throat for saying she is a size 6! 😉

What an insult to those who are truly a size 6!

    • Cerulean says:

Yes. I have nothing against her being bigger. Just dress better and stop pretending to be thin. She would look so much better in nicer clothing and clean hair.

    • DrM says:

if being larger than a size 6 is nothing to be ashamed of then why is Kirstie implying that she is a size 6 an insult to anyone? 6 or 16 who cares? What is sad is that women are so uncomfortable about their bodies that they will lie about their size, weight, how much they eat you name it. I’m a 16 and I like my shape and my body. It serves me well and I treat it well. And when you accept yourself as yourself life gets a hell of a lot easier…

  18. Nanea says:

How about trying some therapy, Kirstie, to get you to accept your issues and to stop deluding yourself?

Oh, right, therapy is bad, but smoking is good, as is taking dietary supplements instead of eating right, and what is best of all is enslaving other people in that supremacist cult…

  19. sosuzy says:

Wow, a size 6. Who does she think she is convincing with that faux size? I mean really. Cigarette adds a nice touch to her elegant look.

    • Cheyenne says:

If she’s a size 6 I’m the Queen of Sheba. I’m a size 6 and she looks like she’d make two of me.

  20. ShanKat says:

That foolishness on her head belongs in the Lohan Tragic Weave Hall of Fame.

I like her jacket, and her daughter’s (?), too.

  21. Emma says:

Is that Miley walking w her? Kidding..but she does resemble Ms. Cyrus. Anyway, hell to the NO is she a six…or anywhere near that size! Get over yourself.

  22. Snowpea says:

She always looks so grubby. And her hair needs a bloody good wash and conditioning treatment.

I sort of see her as one of those crazy cat ladies. She looks like her couch would be covered in fur.

  23. Scout says:

I am surprised by these photos! I saw her on the news this morning and she looked WAY thinner than here – way younger and her hair was very healthy and shiny and a gorgeous brunette shade. They only showed her from the waist up in the clip but you could tell her weight was way down – even in her face. I don’t get it…

    • Cheyenne says:

She was in one of the Star Trek movies eons ago. She had dark hair then and she was quite slender. I don’t know what happened to make her balloon to over 200 lbs but she certainly didn’t look like that when she was in her 20’s.

  24. islandwalker says:

She was beautiful with her dark hair when she was younger but she always looks so angry and unhappy. I feel kind of sorry for her. ( Crazy xeno aside.) BTW- I’m close to her age and damn… I hope I don’t look like that.

  25. Jane says:

See, this is what I’m afraid of about losing weight: the not keeping it off! Of course, no one’s following me around with a camera so the stakes are much lower. Also, I am not compelled to fib about my size.

  26. blc says:

wow she looks a lot bigger. I never bought the whole, “i lost 100 lbs, i’m a size 4!” bs, but she was definitely thinner after dwts. She looks like she has put on at least 20 lbs since then. And since being on a treadmill makes her want to slit her throat, i imagine its only a matter of time until she gains the rest back.

  27. Francesca says:

    Size 16, with a bullet…

  28. JaneWonderfalls says:

I have to say I don’t want to slit my throat, but I hate the treadmill too! I use it as a last resort if it’s bad weather but summer, spring, fall and early winter I enjoy walking in the park or doing some water aerobics much more relaxing especially in the park, listening to my mp3 and just enjoying nature. I do think she needs to come clean about her weight but none the less she looks fine, she’s 60 not 30 or 40 anymore. As far as the smoking I can’t judge because I smoke as well. I’m not proud but I am taking measures to cut the habit completely, it’s an uphill battle but I know I can do it!

  29. JaneWonderfalls says:

OH BTW, Where is my avatar picture, I notice a lot of people still don’t have one showing up yet since CB changed the format on their comments, which I love by the way!!!

  30. DeeVine says:

I cant run on the treadmill either. Run outside…and quit smoking, then it won’t be so painful!

  31. crtb says:

I have to agree with her, I would slit my throat also if I had to run in place for an hour. So many other ways to shed weight that a fun. However doesn’t look like she is doing any of them.

  32. Meanchick says:

I love KA, but the smoking and the obsession with her clothing size? She’ll put it all back on and then some if she doesn’t exercise some self love.

  33. sally says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if she was gearing up to promote a “stop smoking” product.

  34. PiperB says:

This poor woman cannot catch a break. She looks fine. Those are the longest cigarettes I have ever seen.

  35. treadmill says:

I do believe all of the ideas you’ve offered for your post. They’re really convincing and can definitely work. Still, the posts are too short for beginners. Could you please prolong them a little from next time? Thanks for the post.
