The last we reported on Rosie O’Donnell’s new girlfriend, Michelle Rounds, her dad went on the record to the National Enquirer to say that he didn’t know his daughter was gay and that he found out through the press like everyone else. Roger Rounds told the Enquirer “It totally hit us out of left field. We only found out about Michelle liking girls when all this came out about them a few weeks ago. It’s been hard to take!” As I mentioned at the time, given that Michelle’s parents responded so negatively and were so willing to talk to the press about it, you can understand why their daughter didn’t come out to them personally.
Well I bet Michelle’s family is in for another surprise. Their 40 year-old daughter is engaged to the abrasive TV personality just a year after they first met. Rounds lives and works in New York, and same sex marriage was legalized in the state this June. Rosie made the announcement on her flailing talkshow on OWN.

The TV star, 49, not only launched The Rosie Show on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network in October, but now she’s preparing to say “I do” to girlfriend Michelle Rounds.
She broke the news to her audience Monday during a break set aside for commercials during the taping of her show in a Chicago studio. Her rep later confirmed it to PEOPLE.
On Friday, she posted a photo of Rounds on her Instagram page with the word “love.” She also Tweeted a link – this time with the caption “happy – in love” – of her new fiancée the same day.
The duo met earlier this year at a Starbucks. In October, O’Donnell joked that her “gaydar was way off” because she thought Rounds was heterosexual and just 28 years old, when really she is a gay woman and 40.
“It’s fun and very exciting,” O’Donnell recently said about the relationship. “I did not expect it.”

It looks like Rosie and Michelle are rushing into things, but maybe it will work out for them and maybe they believe they’ve carefully considered it. Rosie told Howard Stern this fall that she was hoping to marry Michelle and that they had even talked about it at that point. She said “We’re gay women come on. We’ve met the family, we’re getting wedding invitations printed… I think it could be in the cards, it’s legal in New York. We’ve discussed it.” They’re moving forward with those plans. It’s well overdue that they have the right to marry, even if I still doubt that these two will last. Rosie just seems like a hard person to get along with and from an outsider’s perspective it’s been a whirlwind relationship.

They won’t make it even if they do get around marrying. I believe O’Donnell is the one pushing for marriage and wants to rush into things. I don’t know why she’s in such a hurry to get married and let the world know. Enjoy each other in private, get used to the idea before you go out and tell everybody. It’s about you and her, not the world.

I agree with all of the above. When I read the headline I just thought ICK. I find Rosie so disgusting. And, if she really loved her partner, wouldn’t you think she’d make sure her partner’s parents knew they were engaged before it made the news? It’s just creepy. Much like Rosie.

I used to kind of feel sorry for Rosie O’Donnell because of her crappy childhood, but after all these years and all the opportunity she’s had to get herself some therapy- and she’s still just an egotistical, big mouthed, bitch! I hope her girltoy refuses to sign a pre-nup and walks away with a chunk of Rosie’s cash in a few years.

Frankly a year doesn’t sound so unreasonable to me. I do wish them the best together especially because there are already children in the mix. But honestly, Rosie seems like a difficult person to be with.
I guess I am a bit confused. . . is it really that remarkable that this couple would choose to plan to spend the rest of their lives together after dating a year? Men and women do it all the time. Geez, a lot of hetero couples get knocked up within the first 6 months and then they are forever bound since they have a child together. I also wish them the best. .. not a fan of Rosie’s (I think she’s cantankerous) but there’s always someone for everyone. Hope they’re happy together, and if not, then they can call it quits like anyone else does in this world when things go downhill and can’t be repaired.

Something about this seems fishy. The woman is 40 and her parents had no inkling she’s gay? Hell, even Rosie couldn’t believe it. I’m probably going to catch some flack for this but, maybe she’s not gay but she decided she’d give it a whirl because she’ll be taken care of financially and receive media attention being the girlfriend of a celebrity. I don’t like Rosie, she’s rude and abrasive, but if this is true I feel bad for her.

Exactly what I was thinking. Rosie seems to move too quickly with every relationship. With her second-to-last ex (?), Kellie, it was a blended family and I think that must be rough on the kids to go through “mom” after “mom.”

Plus Rosie has a habit of falling in love and IMMEDIATELY charging headlong into a permanent and committed relationship – and the children involved are all dragged along too. I’m sure the trauma of the Kelli break-up is still fresh in their minds, then there was the last gf (with all HER kids) and now Rosie’s prepared to get married AGAIN. No wonder her son wants to be away at military school and avoid all this drama.
Its entirely possible they had an idea, but decided not to speak about it. Considering their reaction upon having it publicly out there, that seems to be a reasonable assumption to make. I know a fellow in his 20s who has never once had a girlfriend and has been publicly dating men for years, yet his family is in serious denial (strict Irish Catholics the lot). I can see them still doing this well into his 40s or until he gets married.

I totally am so happy for them and they make a wonderful couple. Her ex is already involved with a women and they live together in NYC. It seems it is wonderful the children seeing their moms in healthy loving relationships even if it cant be with each other. Seriously, this is moving entirely too quickly. You don’t marry someone with Rosie’s history without going through at least two full holiday seasons with them, to see if they’re the type who throws the turkey across the dinner table and burns the Christmas tree down.
And if Michelle Rounds looked like a 28-year-old heterosexual when Rosie met her, life with Rosie must be HARD. No one under 35 (and I feel I’m being generous here) has that many wrinkles around her eyes and that much stress on her face. And neither of them can actually smile, the corners of their mouth are turned down in every smiley photo. They’re already miserable.
Rosie’s hard to LIVE with. Her temper’s probably calmer now, but I still fear its lurkiing somewhere. Her temper’s supposedly very scary. Michelle Rounds’s story is so weird. So she’s never been in a relationship with women? And Rosie’s the one she chooses to pop her lesbian cherry? Lmao.
One year together? Hardly. More like 6 months. They met this past summer and Rosie intro’d her in September at her Broadway Kids Event.

rosie has a good heart but a really really bad personality. i know her through a family connection, and have been on one of her cruises. she is really cold even to people she knows well, behind the scenes. the loud obnoxious persona is what she puts on, sort of to hide what she is really like. she is a bit nutty, and from all reports, simply awful to live with. i do not believe this is gonna last, any more than the last one. rosie sure does have a type, doesn’t she? kellie was a lovely person, and i give her a lot of credit for surviving the maelstrom for as long as she did. best of luck to the two of them-they are gonna need it. i am anxiously awaiting the game to play out, to see who is playing whom… 🙂
