Salma Hayek knighted by French government, basically for boning a Frenchman

I mean no disrespect to Salma Hayek’s career in this post. I’ve always liked her as actress, and God knows, I’ve seen Desperado like a million times. Salma is one of the few Mexican actresses to have been nominated for an Oscar, correct? I believe the group is very, very small, and Salma should be very proud of what she’s achieved in two decades in Hollywood. But does Salma deserve to be knighted by the French government for her “career”? I mean, really? Let’s just call this what it is… the French government giving Salma Hayek a knighthood for having a great rack and boning a Frenchman.

Salma Hayek: Knight?

The Puss In Boots actress was among those named by President Nicolas Sarkozy to receive the Légion d’Honneur Sunday. Hayek, 45, will enter the five-tiered honor academy with the grade of Chevalier or “Knight.”

Announced in the President’s official New Year’s list, Hayek will receive a formal induction, which involves a Presidential medal pinning. Her induction will likely occur at the Élysées Palace within the next two months, says a source.

Founded by Napoleon in 1802 as a merit award, the Legion of Honor is awarded to military personnel and civilians for service to France. It is not exclusively reserved for the French and is often awarded to figures of international standing.

Past recipients – who are entitled to wear a small rosette pin indicating their rank – include Jerry Lewis, Clint Eastwood, Robert Redford and Robert De Niro.

In making the grade this year, Hayek’s honor was also something of a unique family affair: her father-in-law, retired business magnate Francois Pinault, was promoted in the same list to the Legion’s exalted rank of Grand Officer.

Yes, Clint Eastwood, Robert DeNiro… and Salma. One of these things is not like the other? Usually, these tributes are given to artists late in their career. I guess the Palace was like, “Damn, we should give this to her while her boobs still look fantastic!” Once again, I like Salma as an actress. But this is a joke, right?

PS… Now that I’m really thinking about it, countries should give awards to sluts who concentrate their efforts among a certain nationality. Scotland should give me an award for the Scottish dudes I’ve boned. Do you think the Queen would give my vadge a CBE?

Ugh … I suppose good for her

  2. brin says:

    Tres funny.

  3. Dhavy says:

    Viva la tatas

  4. Dhavy says:

Viva las tatas…I guess they just give those away. I can’t think of a reason why she deserves one

  5. Kasey says:

Is it just me, or in that first pic does Salma kinda look like what Kim K might hope her face would look like in about 10 years if she were to immediately cease and desist having anymore facial “tweaking”?

  6. meg says:

She needs to stop with those highlights. They’re terrible and look budget. Other than that- gorgeous!

    • Camille says:

      I agree.

I have always thought she had the most gorgeous head of hair in HW, but those highlights need to go!

  7. Linnythepooh says:

They give those ‘awards’ to every slighty famous person who happens to visit France. It’s nothing special.

    • Aquarius74 says:

Sorry, but I’m French and what you say is not true. A lot of famous people visit France, some even live in France (Johnny Depp !!!).
Also, you can’t compare Eastwood and De Niro with Hayek… I mean, she’s nothing compare to them, and I’m not saying she’s inferior because she’s a woman. She’s just not talented enough.
She just got this award (named “Légion d’Honneur”) because she gave an heir to the 3st billionnaire of France !!! And president Sarkozy just loves money and respects only famous rich people, he would not give this award to a soldier fighting in Afghanistan !

  8. dorothy says:

Love her, but not really sure why she would have earned such a distinction.

  9. Kiki says:

I just read that this award is given to people who have contributed to France in some way and president Sarkozy has been linked to some “sketchy” deals so I guess maybe Salma’s husband “lent” him money?

Also Kaiser, she’s been the only Mexican actress who’s been nominated for Best Actress.

The other two (Katy Jurado and Adriana Barraza) were nominated for best supporting actress.

You know why this bothers me? Because of this, people may get racially offensive to a country that isn’t too fond of Salma.

She’s always given interviews here of how she’s not really Mexican but a mixture of everything -except Mexican-.

She’s what you Americans would call a “gold digger”…”arribista”.

    • Sarah says:

It’s my understanding that Mexicans aren’t too fond of her, correct? I remember her trying to kiss up to Maria Felix and Maria Felix being all, bitch please. Then when MF passed away Salma flew to Mexico to attend the funreal and everyone was like, no bitch, seriously.

      • miri says:

It’s in the Mexicn news that Salma producing and acting in a movie about Maria Felix… of course she will play María.
I thins she deserves a lot of praise, she doesn’t sit there and enjoy her money, nor she conforms to be or play whatever limited roles she is given…
That is why she left Mexico, she was being given only certain roles and he movie industry was/is too small for someone with big dreams.
What I do not like is that she “takes” these roles for herself, Frida, well, between Salma or Madonna, I prefer Salma, but María? she lacks the huge personality, height and also the allure of the “persona” created by Maria Felix about herself.
What will it be next? The life of Dolores del Rio? all played by Salma?

      • Kiki says:

Yes Sarah, you are right. Maria Felix couldn’t believe it when Salma sat next to her at an event. She called her “bonitilla y ya”; kind of like “just pretty” (meaning that was the only thing Salma had.)
Thalia and Salma were highly criticized when they attended Maria’s funeral because it was just a photo op for them.

    • Aquarius74 says:

No, french people will not associate Mexico with Salma Hayek and her infamous award.

But… they blame Mexico for have emprisonned Florence Cassez, a young french woman, who was clearly abused by the mexican police.

      • Kiki says:

I am truly sorry you have that opinion about our treatment with Ms. Cassez. While I fully agree that our system is corrupt and unreliable, this person got more than what she deserved. She is a nasty kidnapper and since I have nothing nice to say about her (and I don’t want to offend you or anyone), I may remain silent 😀

      • miri says:

ITA, Kiki. A difficult topic between two nations that have a long history between them.

  10. Smith says:

French men are annoying in bed. All of them.

And yes, I’ve slept with them all, I had a freakin’ l-o-n-g semester abroad about 100 years ago.

(Also I’m half French so I can make fun of my people if I want. And I want).

    • Lisa says:

      BRAVO!!! LOL!!!

    • whatevs says:

      only in bed? lol

    • Sarah says:

I met a French guy when I did a semester in Barcelona and at first I was swooning bc he was tres handsome and really smart but then when we first kissed it was gross, like he’d only ever practiced with his dog before. Two yrs later I meet another French dude stateside working on his doctorate and he wasn’t too handsome, at all, but he was super sweet and a genius. Then he got all rapey one night and, ugh, French dudes are the worst in my book.

  11. SHump76 says:

Her hair is going to give me nightmares. She’s gorgeous, why the hell is she doing that to herself?!

  12. Franny says:

Can you imagine what her closet must look like? I can’t even imagine having a life like that.

  13. whatevs says:

    too hot, can’t hate

  14. Jaded says:

It “involves a presidential medal pinning”? Does that mean Sarkozy gets to fondle her funbags whilst pinning on the medal? That’s probably the only reason she got it….

  15. NaomiCampbellsPhone says:

I think it’s because Pinault is friends with Sarkozy and he’s thinking “f**k it, I probably won’t get re elected anyhow”.

    • Crystalline says:

I thought Sarkozy was guaranteed to get it? Last I knew, there were no new major contenders since DSK’s rape scandal killed his run. Even though he is not well-liked, he pretty much has only been interested in sealing the deal and that baby he recently had was a good PR move for him.

      • Aquarius74 says:

His whole marriage to Carla Bruni was a PR move from the start.
We all know it – I’m French.

The DSK rape scandal was a plot, a trap to politically kill the major opponent, internationaly famous, to Sarkozy. I’m not saying Sarkozy oversaw this plot personally ; a lot of wealthy people in France wants Sarkozy to stay president (just like the Pinaults… husband and father in law of S.Hayek), they fear any political change that would restrain their increasing benefits. DSK was not a revolutionary, not at all, but he was smart and clever enough to be a menace. And his wife, Anne Sinclair, is more famous and more loved than Carla Bruni.

Speaking of Sarkozy’s baby… well, his three sons have french first names, why not his daughter ??? I know it sounds very nationalist and self-centred, you americans may not understand, but for us he’s not the average citizen, he’s supposed to have a symbolic behaviour, and everytime we get a painful slap in the face ! Now all we want to say to him is the word used by the North Africa’s 2011 revolutions : DEGAGE !

    • Funnylilou says:

@aquarius: I am also french and I concurr the fact that Sarkozy and carla bruni are highly dislked but for the rest that is just your opinion:
for DSK it was not a plot at all, you can’t say that anymore when there are several women making very serious accusations, with facts and proofs plus the prostitution scandal (he had hookers sent to him all over the world) plus women who live thousands miles appart and don’t know each other set the same portrayal of a very brutal and abusive man; facts can’t be denied
And as for his wife anne sinclair, maybe YOU like her, but she is massively hated in France, people loathe her and despise her… just take a look at the very negative image in polls that people have of her.

DSK and his wife are now more hated and disrespected than the Sarkozys right now!

I myself have no respect or sympathy for both they are both sketchy and slimy scums

      • Racaille Boy says:

        Mon cher/e Funnylilou!

I have been a long time student of french politics since 1965 when I visited France for the first time.

The french political system is way more corrupt than in the USA. You have the same people being in politics for 40 years. Hell Chirac was mayor of paris for almost 20 years!!

In France, a politician can be a mayor, a cabinet member, and also in the legislature all at the same time!. That is why ethnic minorities in St. Denis or Marseille can’t get ahead!. that is why les beurs sont très emmerdés

Now back to Salma Hayek, this girl is gorgeous but definitely not an airhead. This woman is very shrewd!. This girl has made enough $ to be comfortable, but as the roles in Hollywood slowed to a trickle, she sold herself, like many a beautiful woman, to an ugly older man with tons of money!.

So when she married Pinault she went from millionaire to billionaire. Rest assured, she will file for divorce all in due time, and get her piece of the action…..poor Pinault will end up like Mel Gibson!

In Mexico she is generally despised as being an arrepentida or a sellout!. The thing is this woman achieved thing$ that she would never have had in Mexico.

  16. Nanea says:

Isn’t it nice to have your husband buy you this kind of stuff?

I wonder what FHP has done now that he doesn’t want Salma to find out about. Paid Linda E. off?

  17. Sakyiwaa says:

This is def the ‘boning’ merit.

    • Aquarius74 says:

      Yes.
She gave an heir to the Pinault family, 3st fortune of France. Wow, such an exploit.
That’s why Henri Torre, 78, refused the “Légion d’Honneur” today, because he didn’t want to be associated with such people. And Torre is a right-wing politician just like Sarkozy.

I have nothing personally against Hayek, this is mostly Sarkozy I blame here ! I mean, why not then give an award to Jade Foret, the 21 years old bimbo which is the new love interest of Arnaud Lagardère, another billionnaire good friend with Sarkozy ?

  18. HoustonGrl says:

    All these cronies are just…gross.

  19. Ally says:

There’s a noxious circle of rich farts in Paris that act like there’s still a Versailles there: from the media, the industrialists and the politicians. It’s a favour-giving, revolving door system that makes Washington look amateurish. And they all act like it’s normal.

The DSK scandal was very revealing in this regard, in that this French ‘élite’ couldn’t fathom one of their own being held accountable for anything or treated like a regular person.

Clearly, here, Sarkozy didn’t know how to thank Salma’s husband for his financial donations (Sarkozy is already in trouble for receiving wads of cash from the senile L’Oréal heiress), so he came up with this. Also, Sarkozy loves any chance for a photo op.

  20. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

    This is just dumb.

  21. Funnylilou says:

@racaille boy: exactly my thoughts! France is doomed by slimy unethical scums who make politics for a living and there whole life!
