Ryan Gosling pretends that he’s too cool to be photographed by the paparazzi

There’s so much I don’t understand about being a celebrity. Like, I understand the idea behind “candid” photo ops, and the industry of celebrity accessibility. Lord knows, I love candid shots of many celebrities, and lord knows, many celebrities want us to pay attention to them when they’re “off the clock”. But the cameras and the attention can be too much, of course. And I’m sure that in these photos, Ryan Gosling was probably being swarmed by photographers in a New York airport (JFK?). I’m sure the flashes were bothering him, and he simply didn’t feel like being photographed as he returned from the holidays (or whatever).

But… but… but… why is Gosling so upset that he’s been photographed? Especially considering he and Eva Mendes pretty much rolled out the red carpet and made out for the paparazzi while they were in Paris over Thanksgiving. And that’s the part I don’t get – why basically pose for a photo shoot with your girlfriend in Paris, and then a month later, act like you’re too “private” to be photographed at the airport? Ryan and Eva made a “Funny or Die” video together, for the love of God. But we’re still being sold the image that Gosling is “private” and that he’s just not used to this kind of attention. BS. He’s a Hollywood player at this point, and he knows how to manipulate his own media.

Of course, maybe he was just being followed by some really annoying photographers in these pics. Or maybe he should just put the magazine down and accept that if he’s going to pose for photos with his girlfriend in Paris, anything goes.

Also – I love his leather bag. I want it. I don’t want him, but I’ll take the bag.

Oh Kaiser, why do you hate him so much?
The dude just didn’t feel like being photographed-he’s hardly the first celeb to get irritated being papped. I also love that leather bag.

I think he just wanted to show off his new comic book.

Maybe he hadn’t had enough sleep and was in a bad mood. Everyone is entitled to those days.

What an asshat. And he wasn’t just covering his face at JFK. There are pictures of him doing it the day before, while leaving his hotel, and while arriving at LAX.

And you KNOW he agonized over choosing the most perfect “quirky” publication with which to cover his face. It was probably between that comic and the New Yorker.

I wouldn’t describe the New Yorker as “quirky”. As a longtime subscriber, I would say it’s one of the most well-rounded, intelligent and sophisticated periodicals I have ever read.

Ihihihi with your second paragraph (probably so very true).

My former irritation with Gosling has switched to mild indifference now — his antics are quirky, but I do think he’s getting too much flack here for what they’re each worth. The Celebitchy writers are grilling him for every little thing he does that’s weird. He’s an overall weirdo who relishes it, and has always been loopy! Is it worthy of a post every single time, like he killed someone’s kitten? This dude gets pariah-ed more and more here while Jessica Simpson gets love for being a dumb Farty!

Isis-he should have held up a New Yorker AND the comic book-then he would have appeared intelligent AND indie hipster quirky :)

That is a really nice bag.

I’ve never been really into to Ryan Gosling; he’s good looking for sure, but just doesn’t do it for me.

He doesn’t look angry to me. “Angry Monsters” is pretty hilarious. Maybe he’s just afraid of that little girl in the pink tennies!

That bag IS delish. I scrolled across it 3x before I read the text.

I want to know what is in that bag. I know its not a change of clothes since he was photographed since friday wearing those same damn clothes and boots. Doesnt he “live” in NYC anymore? Is it eva? Or has it been press for awards season that keeps him in LA since wrapping Gangster Squad?

Why would he be angry when he chose the magazine the day before and made sure the paps knew when he would be there? This candid/surprise is so fake.

The bag on his shoulder is really nice. I would love to have it.

I still love Ryan as a talented actor, but as a celebrity he sucks! No one currs about this relationship with Deliver us from Eva. Most of us pretend it does’nt exist and are waiting for the plug to be pull. Stunts like this are making me hate celebrity Ryan but I will always love the actor…get back to being an actor and less celebrity.

His reading material of choice is a comic book. I’m thinking the Gosdong is a big old delayed adolescent mama’s boy. Maybe it’s just a prop, but somehow I doubt it.

Seems to me he’s making a little joke, being playful with the magazine cover. He doesn’t seem angry and casually shows his face in some shots. Wrong call.

I like him as an actor, too. That being said, it IS kind of douchebaggy “hiding” his face w/a mag. I mean, it’s like…oh jeeez….come ON!!!

I guess now that he’s A-list (he is…isn’t he?)he can “afford” to do such things? No!

Why can’t he just smile, wave…graciously nod? I guess he’s just too cool and over it, huh? I say he’d better enjoy this ride while he’s still on it. Yeah, a d-bag move, for sure.

I like most of his films. I think he’s a really talented actor…

    BUTBUTBUT…

His persona is really grating on me. Maybe Greenie (comment 13) is right, but he annoys me so much I’m finding it hard to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I would really love to despise the Gosdong, but sadly, I can’t. Yes, he’s a little boring, has an unhealthy obsession with Disneyland, and yeah, he’s not “Hollywood’s Leading Man,” but I can’t help but like him and root for him. These pictures don’t really mean anything, though. He just doesn’t want his picture taken – that’s all.

Because nothing says incognito more than wearing sunglasses at the airport.

Gosdong is a babe, but he is going a touch overboard with this sensitive, “I don’t want to be overexposed” persona. Blech and totally transparent.

Wow, super judgemental group of comments. But I knew this would happen, though. It always does. In a year I expect the same bitchy-for-no-good-reason comments about Michael Fassbender. Unless Fassy knows better and stays under the radar. For his sake, I hope so.

So many people think this thing with Eva is fake. I used to think so too, with all those awful pap pics from Paris. But surely he wouldn’t involve his mom in a PR setup. Guess it’s real. He was supposed to have moved to NYC, but I think he must have moved back to LA because of Eva. I shouldn’t care who he chooses to be with, but I hate his choice. If they get married or settle down together, it will be a hard pill to swallow. I guess she can’t be all bad if he loves her. But something about this couple makes me sick to my stomach.

  29. Heine says:

Sometimes celebrities don’t want to be photographed. They are human beings, not cyborgs devoid of variable human emotions.

Sometimes they don’t wanna smile and wave for the cameras for whatever reason and they should not be taken to task every time the paps surround them and they don’t have huge smiles on their faces. Paps can be total jerks who surround and threaten people. It isn’t fun and most people force smiles for them but sometimes a person just isn’t in the mood for the fakery.

Although honestly he looks like he’s goofing around more than anything else. He’s iling behind the magazine in the top picture. He’s got his entire bag up in his face at one point. I laughed at that picture.

The snark thrown at Gosling on this site is hilarious. He’s one of the better actors out there and one of the least offensive and obnoxious. I’ll take him over just about anyone (except Fassbender).

I always like to get the Gosling posts on this site out of the way so I can go on to hotter, more frustrating stories.

I dont think he’s trying to be “too cool” to be photographed. The dude could be having a bad day and doesn’t feel like getting papped.

If you were having a bad day, would you want a bunch of people following and taking pics of you? Probably not.

And while they might be showing their faces together in Paris, its not like they’re smiling, and making lovey-dovey faces at each other. It doesn’t seem like they are really playing it up for the paps.

He’s been holding that exact plastic covered comic book in front of his face for four days on about 4-5 different occasions. This isn’t about a bad day. RG thinks he’s Brad Pitt. But he’s not haha. And Brad Pitt and Angelina don’t even do this crap. Bitch please.

It’s not like pictures of him are going for big money. Why do he and Leo do that dumb cover their face thing. I see other celebs that are bigger who don’t do that, and pictures of them are worth big time money.

I don’t buy his “image”. I think he is a great actor.. attractive. But sorry I never went over the moon for him at all.
