Nicole Richie has said that her childhood was so happy that it lead her to do drugs:
She adds, "Doing drugs kind of made me just forget and not feel anything, for a second. I think it's a combination of things. Partly just me wanting to be older - it's what the older kids were doing at the time."
Nicole has been cared for by Lionel Richie and his wife from the age of three. She is the daughter of a drummer that worked with Richie and one of his backstage assistants, and was formally adopted when she was nine. Even if she says things were fine and she had a good childhood, she may have been conflicted about her adoption. When someone says they don't want to feel anything, they're trying to deny that there's anything wrong.
