Kim Cattrall confirms Sex and the City sequel

Kim Cattrall confirmed to Scary Spice that there will definitely be a Sex and the City sequel. While appearing on the British talkshow, The Paul O’Grady Show, Cattrall answered guest host Mel B.’s question of sequel with a resounding yes.

I have mixed emotions about Sex and the City that pretty much lean to the negative. However, that was also my feeling when the concept of the first movie was brought up after the successful HBO series. The movie was a box office hit and a sequel probably would be, too, because of the large SATC demographic. There are plenty of questions about what the movie could possibly address. The basis for the first film was Carrie looking for love and in the movie she found it.

Kim Cattrall seemed to hint that she’s finished with her current boyfriend in her comments on how she isn’t like her SATC character, Samantha.

But the blonde — who has dated chef Alan Wyse for about five years — admitted she was not like her racy character.

Kim, 52, said: “I’m sort of a serial monogamist. I find a guy I like and I tend to spend an awfully long time with him — five or six years. That’s a very long time.

“And in Hollywood that’s forever.”

If I were Alan Wyse, I’d be reading between the lines and looking for a new place to sleep. It looks like Wyse’s time is just about up judging by that statement. It’s pretty sad that Kim’s “awfully long time” in a relationship is five or six years. Wyse has been around for five, so his expiration date is imminent.

  1. I love Kim, and I thought the SATC movie was “cute,” but I too have reservations about another one. What else can they do with the characters? They can’t make Samantha a monogamist all of a sudden, so are we going to sit through two hours of her flitting from bed to bed?

  2. Whatever they do, damnit lets hope Kim stays looking natural. I like the lines on her face, and think she is just beautiful and appropriate looking for her age.

Have the balls to stand up and say “this is what a 50 year old woman REALLY looks like.” Come on Kim!!!! Helen Mirren showed how it gets done. Me likey this look on you, too.

  3. Her face needs leather polish. SATC was over-rated crap. I must have missed that meeting when it was decided bed-hopping for women was positive and empowering.

  4. Talk about milking it! Is she still going to be fukcing around when she’s seventy?

she’s already wearing a seventy year olds footwear, I can just see her whipping off her depends in SATC 7

  6. In the cold light of day, can’t we *all* admit that SATC: The Movie was total crap?

And I’m saying that as a fan of the tv show… if I had to see Carrie’s self-destructive, immature behavior and her incessant whining about Mr. Big for one more minute, I was going to shoot someone.

  7. oh dante, you need to lighten up! SATC was not about women’s empowerment…it was about the shoes! it was just a fun, fluffy show, but the movie was dumb. what can they possibly do in the sequel, besides give samantha a raging case of herpes?

  8. @Kaiser: I am completely and utterly in agreeance with you. Why the need for a sequel, such a stupid idea. Obviously money is the driving factor here as really what else can they ring out of the now tired series. It should have just been a tv mini series or something, that would have worked far better than a film.

  11. It’s a movie. If you don’t want so see it, don’t. But I’m tired of this commentary when there are so few movies with a predominantly female cast and storylines. (Unlike the hundreds of male-centric hero movies and slacker comedies every year.)

Fine. Don’t go see the sequel. I will. (And you will, too, probably, you mudgslinging hypocrites.)

  12. PLEASSSSEEEEpleasepleasepleaseplease spend more than 5 minutes on the script!
The first “movie” was a crock written on paper napkins by the looks of it. I hope whoever is doing the script stops counting on the fact that people will watch anything with the SATC name on it.
Somebody email ‘em and tell ‘em to DO IT FRIGGIN RIGHT!!! (And leave the birds on the head out of it…)

  13. Ok, so I just watched the first one and was not impressed. I’m a huge fan of the show, but I just cannot believe the movie went on that long. I could’ve done without Samantha’s man-whore next door, Carrie’s ugly “new” apartment, and Charlotte’s way over animated expressions and bouncing all the time. The only thing I did like was Miranda’s cute haircut, and this is coming from someone who hated her character and looks from day one. There is absolutely no need for a sequel, what the hell could they do next time? Carrie and Big seperate in the first 20 minutes then spend the rest of the movie not talking and then get back together? Been there, done that, move on.
