Michelle Williams spotted out and about in LA twice with Matilda, post-Oscars

I have to give Michelle Williams some belated credit. Even though her Oscar campaign annoyed me to no end, she wasn’t using actively using her daughter as part of her campaign. Like, Michelle played up her “mommy” credentials, of course, all while being ensconced in her second virginity, and all while actively playing The Widow Ledger. But in retrospect, isn’t it nice that there weren’t dozens of “candid” photo shoots of Michelle and Matilda? I like that Michelle actively (and truly) seems to want to keep Matilda away from Hollywood and from the paparazzi lenses. If it had been Jennifer Garner up for an Oscar, there would have been twice-daily photo ops, every single day of her campaign.

So what do you make of these photos? Michelle and Matilda have been photographed out and about in LA twice this week, post-Oscars. I’m going to give Michelle the rare benefit of the doubt and say that Michelle is simply not used to being in LA with Matilda, and she wasn’t expecting the paparazzi to catch her out with Mattie. Is that fair to her? Or is this part of a new kind of mommy-centric campaign?

Mattie is a cutie, isn’t she? As she gets older, I see more of Michelle in her and less of Heath. And I like that Mattie isn’t used to seeing photographers too – she seems uncomfortable seeing strange men around her. As most normal kids would be.

One last thing – have you read this blind item? A lot of people think it’s about Michelle. I think it could be about Rooney Mara or Viola Davis, but Michelle probably is the better guess.

I think the girl is 100% the spitting image of her father. I looked at her face and saw HL’s face. My goodness.

    • two_seconds_ago says:

Yep! Looks very much like her father.

    • DorothyZbornak says:

Right? It was almost startling to see how much she looks like him. She’s a beautiful little girl.

    • Julie says:

      oh yes.

it might sound stupid when you say “hey that child looks like one of her parents” but you rarely see children looking THAT much like one of their parents.

    • Eleonor says:

      My thought too.

    • eileen says:

      I thought the same thing! She’s a mini-Heath!

    • Jessica says:

I agree with you, I see all Heath!!!

    • Maripily says:

I absolutely agree…she looks like a tiny little version of her Dad. I don’t see her mother in her at all, even her smile is Heath’s shy smile.

    • Anguishedcorn says:

Totally; I actually gasped a little when I saw her.

    • Pilar says:

Totally! First thing i thought when i saw the picture before i read the post- is she looks SO much like her dad. Spiting image.

      • MorticiansDoItDeader says:

Wow! She does look just like Heath. That must be both painful and comforting at the same time.

    • brasileira says:

Agreed! She’s the spitting image of Ledger… I don’t see this “morph” into Michelle there. Sorry, Kaiser!

    • curegirl0421 says:

That’s exactly what I thought too… she looks JUST like Heath Ledger, but with her mom’s eyes. She will be a stunner when she grows up!

    • NinaG says:

I agree, I can see Heath as soon as I looked at her 🙂

    • It is ME!! says:

      Yep!!

    • molly says:

I think so too. I actually got a little choked up because I have never seen a picture of her. She is such a cutie.

    • Amy says:

You’re right. I can’t see anything of Michelle in Matilda’s face. It is pure, unadulterated Heath Ledger.

  2. Bite me says:

How refreshing and her daughter has gotten so tall

    • brin says:

I know….she’s really grown! I see a lot more of Heath than Michelle in her face.

  3. Gine says:

Eh, the pictures with that blind are all of the Best Supporting Actress nominees/winners, so I’m guessing it was one of them, not a Best Actress nominee.

    • normades says:

I still think it’s Michelle and Busy. Busy seems like such a devoted friend and Michelle is lucky to have that kind of unconditional support.

But really, can you blame her? I’d be crying my eyes out too. Maybe not so much from not winning but from the total release of stress that it was finally all over.

I don’t think Rooney thought she had any chance of winning so she probably wasn’t too disapointed. Same for Jessica, Octavia had that one in the bag.

It could have been Viola, but not Glenn!

    • Keis says:

Blindgossip photos are not necessarily indicative of who’s in the blind, probably because that could be tantamount to libel depending on the subject matter of the blind. They are usually a hint though, which is why it lends itself to guessing the best actress nominees.

Also, Octavia Spencer won every other award if I’m not mistaken, I don’t think the other nominees were surprised at her win.

      • carrie says:

i guess it’s Viola Davis also (she won every award except BAFTA and in supporting actress,it locked for Octavia Spencer)

  4. Sisi says:

Gotta give her credit indeed, during the entire campaign she was talking about her daughter, but I actually saw less of her than usual.

  5. aenflex says:

She looks to me very much like her daddy

  6. Mimi says:

I do see a little more of Michelle in Mattie as she gets older. However, that little girl STRONGLY resembles her daddy. She is a total cutie and Michelle seems to be a really good mom. So sad that Heath isn’t here to see his daughter grow up.

    • jc126 says:

Heath Ledger’s death saddened me more than any other celebrity death in the past decade or more. So incredibly sad. I think he would’ve remained a fascinating, edgy, very talented actor.

  7. Kristen says:

Busy Phillips was tweeting about this yesterday. She said:

“Hey @TMZ- one of yr guys was just SO disrespectful to me and michelle. He called me a bitch b/c I asked them not to film Matilda. Is that ok?”

“He called me worse than a bitch, btw. @tmz I had gone out earlier to ask them to be respectful & not yell at her. Your guy was out of line.”

    • Mimi says:

That is such bullshit! I hate paparazzi. But, Matilda is Heath Ledger’s daughter and that makes her a huge target for the paps. Disgusting, but true.

    • mia girl says:

This is why I won’t come down on any celebrity who complains about the paparazzi and their lack of privacy due to these people. So many people say “its part of their job, stop whining”… but I witnessed this type of stuff once and it is ugly and frankly, abusive.

I was in LA a couple of years back at a business lunch and a beautiful, but aging, A list star was at the same restaurant (which is fairly popular). While we waited for our car, she came out and two guys appeared out of nowhere to take her picture. When she wouldn’t engage with them, they first tried to sweet talk her… then as she continued to ignore they began to say vile things to her about not being much anymore and being an old bitch. Then as she got in her car (which came before ours of course ha!) they told her she should thank them for even wanting to take her picture with so many hot actresses around. All this actress could do was stand there at take it. It was disgusting.

      • normades says:

pssst…mia girl, who was the star? Jane Fonda? Am I warm?

      • mia girl says:

normades – just between us 😉
younger than Jane… she is married to a TV writer/producer… and I must say, she is a goddess in person

      • michelle says:

        michelle pfeiffer????

      • normades says:

hmmmm…gonna chew on that one for a while.

But yeah, it’s outta hand in LA. What I hate is that these people have no regard for children. Like when Kate Moss was with her daughter at the airport. What a tramatic experience for the little one.

And the traffic violations! One of these days an innocent bystander is gonna get killed.

      • normades says:

I think I got it! MP married to DK.

      • jc126 says:

E used to have a terrible show that featured a bunch of paparazzo harassing various people. They called Rebecca Romjin the c word for not posing. They are scum.

I wouldn’t convict an actor who assaulted one of them, or worse.

I think Matilda is the spitting image of Heath. So cute. Michelle is a peanut, looks really short.

      • Onyx XV says:

mia girl – why can’t you just say who it was, did you sign a confidentiality agreement or something? lol

      • Kate #2 says:

I saw some footage once of the paparazzi swarming Keanu Reeves when he was going into a restaurant. He didn’t give them what they wanted, so one said, “Happy father’s day, man” all sarcastically.

Given his father was in jail for heroin dealing and he famously hasn’t had any relationship with him since he was a kid; his daughter had been stillborn a few years before that (and the mother of that daughter killed in a car smash a year later)… I couldn’t believe anyone would go there. Just unspeakably horrible.

So harassing small kids doesn’t altogether amaze me, either. Poor Matilda. It’s great her mother manages to shield her so much of the time.

  8. Melissa says:

This girl is 6 years old and her mother is carrying her around like she’s an infant – it’s ridiculous!

    • Julie says:

take a closer look. they are both walking but then they try to protect her from the paparazzi. she also has the hood up in three of the pictures.

      • AudreyS says:

Sorry, after posting this I realized my response was to another commenter. But I still stand by my comments. But aren’t “we” part of the problem? We come to these gossip sites and view the photos that these asshole paps take. Our traffic on this site creates ad revenue that Celebitchy uses to pay for photos that are sold by the organizations that hire these guys. I’m just as guilty as anyone, since I’m on this site and other gossip site a lot.

    • michelle says:

i think michelle carried mathilda to protect her from the paparazzi

    • mel says:

you are kidding me right???? Cameras shoved in your face and the paps yelling at you and you are bitching because she is carrying her 6 year old???? I am so glad you are not my mother. Yikes! I carry my 6 year old when she is sad or scared. Its called comforting your child. Sheesh!

      • Melissa says:

Wow- take a pill or something, lady! Guess what – I’m glad I’m not you’re mother, either, and I hope you don’t have any children of your own – if you’re this high strung and all.

    • normades says:

This little girl is being surrounded by aggressive paps. I would carry my daughter and try to hide her face too.

No offense, but I hate when people make the “aren’t they old enough to walk” comments about celeb kids. I think people underestimate how ruthless and dangerous a pap circle can be. These people are just trying to protect their children just like anyone else.

      • eileen says:

I agree-A bunch of people twice your size yelling and flashing cameras at you has to be scary.

      • Lithe says:

Right? Why does it bug some people so much to see parents carrying their own kids? I’ll never understand that.

    • Maripily says:

I carried my kids around until they got too heavy for me. Sometimes to walk them across a busy street or if they saw a scary dog, sometimes if we were walking long distances and they got tired, and sometimes just because it felt nice to hold them close. They won’t be small forever, you have to cherish every moment they allow you to hold them and embrace them. I’ve got a 17 year old and an 11 year old now, and they barely let me give them a hug or kiss on the cheek, they say it’s embarrassing, lol. I miss the days when I could hold them close like that.

      • Esmom says:

My sons are 11 and 13 and I miss the hugs and cuddles, too. I think I’m actually in a bit of a mourning phase because of how they are growing away from me.

I have a 7-month-old niece, though, who isn’t embarrassed to snuggle. So that’s nice. But still not the same when they’re not your babies.

      • Claudia says:

You post was really sweet 🙂 I will make sure to hug my parents more when I see them.

      • Rav says:

I have a 7 month old son and I would love it if he loved to snuggle. At the moment he is on the go permanently and when my husband or I try to cuddle him he squirms until we “release” him. We are looking forward to him settling down and letting us cuddle him.

    • Onyx XV says:

Yes, ITA Melissa – it’s PAST ridiculous. This child is way too large to be carried. There are ways of talking children through things without completely coddling them.

Plus, Michelle’s got Busy in front of her, cussing and deflecting the paps. She’s a big, tough girl – I’m sure she could take a few of them out if she had to! lol

      • Kate #2 says:

Oh, absolutely! You should NEVER cuddle and physically reassure little kids in scary situations, because words are so much more effective at that age, and hey, who needs to feel safe in their mother’s arms when surrounded by a group of aggressive, shouty strange men?

Please tell me you’re not a parent. Why in the world would you deny the most effective reassurance possible to a frightened little girl?!

      • mel says:

I think your comments speak for themselves on how little compassion you have for children. YES – CHILDREN. OMG…six years old is still so little. Its not like she is a freaking 12 year old. What is wrong with you??????????????

  9. Eleonor says:

For the blind idem…is it possible Glenn Close??

  10. Ravensdaughter says:

OMG, Matilda has her father’s eyes. Michelle must think of Heath every time her daughter looks at her. Remember, the eyes are the mirrors of the soul.
I don’t know if Heath was the love of her life or just some guy she had a kid with. Lately, I’ve subscribed to the latter, because it has seemed all about her. Glad she is taking time off with her daughter.

  11. Jessica says:

Blind Item: Jessica Chastain. But…why is it even an item at all? An actress who didn’t win the Oscar was gracious to the winner, had some tears in what was supposed to be a private moment, and a friend comforted her. Um…seems to me that could possibly be every single non-winner ever. What’s the big deal? Even the “It’s not fair” comment (and it’s not known who even said that anyway). Normal. Fine. Nothing sensational. I’d probably shed a few tears, too.

    • Keis says:

I agree. I don’t know who it is, but I don’t feel like their reaction is that bad. I might want to cry if I missed out on an Oscar too! It’s not like the person keyed the winner’s car.

  12. marybeth18 says:

I gave Michelle some sh*t over constantly referencing Heath in all of her interviews, but…my god, that child is the spitting image of him. I guess when the face you see most often is a miniature replica of your deceased ex, he probably looms a little large. So I’ll lessen some of my disgust for her on that point.

  13. birdie says:

The blind item is probably about Viola Davis, I guess she really thought she had this thing! Matilda looks a lot like Heath, but she has Michelle’s nose.

  14. lucy2 says:

I’m not surprised they followed her, given it’s right after the Oscars, but that’s awful to do it when there’s a kid present.
I wish all these agencies and tabloids would stop buying photos of the kids, but that will never happen.

  15. Mairead says:

Jaysis, it’s Heath Ledger in pigtails 😯 . The child is a total cutie and like a baby Heath from his “Home & Away” days.

And paps are scum. They’re not even photographers – just jackasses with expensive cameras.

  16. DetRiotGirl says:

It’s too bad the blind item specifies that it was an actress and not an actor. For some reason, I find it really amusing to picture Brad Pitt crying his eyes out in the little boys room at the Oscars crying “it’s not fair! It’s not fair!” while George Clooney gently strokes his hair and says “there, there B-Rad” (let’s just go ahead and imagine they use super friends nick names for each other while we’re at this) “There’s always next year.”

Brad looks up through his tears and says “2013?”, and Clooney smiles knowingly before saying the magic words to pull his friend back together.

“Now who’s a bRADical dude?” he poses, wiping a lone tear from Brad’s sculpted, movie star cheek bone. Brad quietly opines “I am” as he raises himself in front of the vanity mirror, and straightens his suit.

Satisfied that his work here is done, Clooney simply states “open bar” as Brad, slowly remembering his blessings in life, grins and says “Angelina’s right leg.”.

As Brad’s strength returns, they walk out together towards the academy, back into the belly of the beast, safe in the knowledge that the real winner of the night was their friendship.

    *looks around the thread awkwardly*

    Ok, I’m done.

  17. Cinesnatch says:

“There’s always next year.” To be taken literally? Because Williams doesn’t have any films coming out this year to qualify for next year.

  18. aang says:

Williams looks even tinier than usual next to a normal sized child. That girl looks just her father.

  19. Nanz01 says:

Haunting how much she looks like Heath. When I saw these pictures, I felt the same feeling I get when I see pics of Francis Bean – a little sad, a little heartbroken.

    • Kim says:

I dont see sadness. I see a very happy little girl and that i give credit to her mother for. Francis had Courtney (basically she never had chance for normal mother/childhood) whereas Matilda has Michelle who isnt an untalented, delusional, drug addict like Courtney.

  20. demian bichir says:

I think it’ s Viola because she played a maid and Streep played an english PM.
She’s nominated like Streep but Streep wins(F*U Weinstein&Wintour)for playing the A class bitch Lady Iron.
Who the F* watched that horrible film?
The Oscars are political we are on the biggest world financial crisis ever and they gave an oscar to that boring c* Maggie Thatcher wannabe.
    H’wood(=1%)eats at the richmen’s table.

  21. maggiegrace says:

detriot – I do comedy, and that was fantastic!!

  22. maggiegrace says:

    Hollywood loves all things briddish….

  23. skuddles says:

Wow, she’s nearly as big as Mommy now… it’s a wonder Michelle can even carry her. Matilda is such a cutie patootie… looks just like her late Papa.

  24. Kim says:

At first I thought the blind item was Michelle but i think for sure its Viola since it was a toss up between Viola and Meryl not so much Michelle and Meryl. I guess everyone (except me) thought Viola would win. I think Meryl deserved it over Viola for sure. Viola was good BUT Meryl was superb!

Matilda looks EXACTLY like Heath to me. I do think Michelle does good job of keeping Matilda out of her business/Hollywood life as much as is possible for a famous actress. They live in NY where paps dont swarm the streets like they do in LA so she probably wasnt expecting to be photographed.

I think people want to see Matilda happy after the loss of her father. I dont even know her and I feel protective of her because she suffered a great loss at a young age and will have to live without her father for the rest of her life and when she gets older will learn his cause of death and that would be really hard to cope with for anyone. She is a cutey pie and her mother is a class act. Plus I love Busy and she is Michelles besty. I just think they are both classy which is rare in Hollyweird these days.

    • AudreyS says:

I totally think it was Viola. She was a shoe-in! And, it’s interesting that perhaps Meryl donated to Viola’s school charity…

    • demian bichir says:

“At first I thought the blind item was Michelle but i think for sure its Viola since it was a toss up between Viola and Meryl not so much Michelle and Meryl. I guess everyone (except me) thought Viola would win.”

Kim i knew it when Meryl(2 F***ing oscars!)got the Vogue cover. You know Wintour don’t play like that when it comes to bizness! She wasn’t going to put an ageing actress just for the fun of it(I don’t think so!) or sympathy( LOL!I was just kidding!).
The W Bitch got a BIG Weistein donation($$).
But then Viola came in the picture, she won some awards(she’s the true female STAR of 2012! She’s the real superb ONE ).I still had doubt until the moment Kaiser wrote this:

“In other Angelina news, she’s just been confirmed for Newsweek/The Daily Beast’s annual Women In the World Summit, which will be held in NYC next month. Angelina will be joining congresswomen, international politicians, Nobel laureates, journalists, humanitarians, businesswomen and MERYL STREEP(?). Yay!”
      -celebitchy Feb 22 2012.

How in the hell do you think Meryl was chosen?(Because she’s the oscar winner 2012 and they all knew it in advance).
      I don’t beleive in coincidence.
Then Meryl donated to Viola’s SCHOOL Charity…Ummm…Guilty conscience?Remorse?

  25. NeoCleo says:

She looks like her father–don’t see Michelle in her features or hair color.

  26. Janet says:

Wow. I just did a quick glance and saw the pic on the home page. Matlida looks so much like Heath! WOW!

  27. aprayerforthewildatheart says:

    Heath…

  28. TXCinderella says:

She is the spitting image of her Dad!

  29. Itwillrain says:

It just seems obvious that it was Viola. She was the only one had the right to feel that way, anyway….

  30. ManicPixieDreamGirl says:

God, she seems like she would be such a nice mom! She is totally my favorite actress after watch my week with marilyn.

  31. the original bellaluna says:

She looks so much like Heath!

  32. shawn says:

I think the woman in the blind item is Rooney Mara. She just seems like the type to do that. She’s been believing the hype about her way too much, and reality came crashing down.
