Rachel McAdams & Michael Sheen, loved up in London: super-cute or scruffy?

I know they’re not everybody’s favorite couple, but I love Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen together. These are photos of Rachel and Michael at last night’s London premiere of his new film, The Story of Us. This is not the first time they’ve done a carpet together – they did a bunch of stuff together last year during the promotion of Midnight In Paris, and Rachel has done a few appearances for Michael’s films. Although… I don’t think he’s ever come out for one of her films…? Like, he didn’t come to any of the premieres of The Vow. Maybe he just didn’t want to see the movie?

Anyway, they’re just super-cute together and I really want them to get married, but it worries me because I think Michael is anti-marriage. He was with Kate Beckinsale for years and after they split, she said some stuff about how never wanted to marry her. Maybe Rachel doesn’t want to get married either – except that I think she probably does want it. And I worry that the marriage issue will split them up. Gah! I need to stop being so neurotic on behalf of this couple. They’re fine. They’re doing fine.

They’ve been together for a year and a half (at least). Rachel claims that they didn’t get together while they filmed Midnight in Paris (hm…), but they got together shortly after, and they seemed coupled up at the Toronto Film Festival in 2010. Rachel recently told Stella Magazine: “Michael and I never spend more than three weeks apart – we rack up a lot of air miles – but you have to be quite adaptable in this business whether you are in a relationship or not. Trying to establish roots somewhere is a bit of a joke. You need to trust each other and be able to talk to each other and be best friends.” They’re going to be working together again too – they’re scheduled to do a Terrence Malick film at some point.

God, I really wish she’d stop with the blonde. It washes her out!

Well he is scruffy. But Rachel looks lovely.

As for the marriage thing, who knows. Sometimes men who say they don’t want to get married is because they don’t want to marry that specific person. But in a different relationship with someone else, they might decide differently. Only time will tell if Micheal is a man who never wants to marry or if he just hasn’t met the right woman who motivates him to make that type of commitment.

    • Aiobhan says:

I agree. He is super cute in his scruffiness and she is just super cute. He reminds me of an English professor that I once had. Yum! I hate her outfit though. It is too boring.

I also agree about your point on marriage. It really depends on where the guy is at in his life and if he is emotionally ready to commit. It hurts like hell when you are not the one that he (man in general)will not marry you but will marry someone else. Or maybe she just does not want to marry him and he is ok with that. It is not always the man that refuses to get married for whatever reason.

      • grace says:

Rachel does want to get married. In an interview with Hello a couple months ago –

“While admitting that marriage and children are “something I’ve always wanted”, McAdams was less forthcoming when asked about her current plans. “Hmmm. That’s something that I’m not going to answer right now, because right now I don’t know what the answer is.”

I don’t think Michael has ever ruled out getting married at some point.

      • Aiobhan says:

@grace I take her comment as something more abstract like she is not ruling out the possibility of marriage but is not actively going after it at this time. Or like she said she does not really know what she wants. Maybe she will change her mind. Maybe not. Maybe I am biased because I don’t believe “marriage” equals happiness but a committed relationship with someone that you love does. That kinda does not make sense when you read it but I think I know what I mean. They seem happy and that is all that matters to me.

    • Liv says:

Plus maybe he realizes women run away when he refuses to marry them. He would be pretty stupid to not marry Rachel, she seems like a great woman.

  2. grace says:

“I know they’re not everybody’s favorite couple” – Who could dislike them? They’re so cute together!

Michael attended the LA afterparty for The Vow (there are paparazzi videos) but they decided not to pose on the red carpet for whatever reason. When she went to the Sherlock Holmes 2 premiere in LA, Michael was working on stage in London.

    • lrm says:

I think for The Vow, michael wuld have not been an asset for rachel, for film promotion. they needed her to be seen in her role and as a couple with the guy in the film….
also, she is arguably better known, so she’s prob. an asset/draws attention, at his films-and she does get written up for carpet style and on celebrity blogs in general…people are interested in her, which helps his PR.

That is prob part of why he didn’t do the vow red carpet, and why she is doing his carpets.

I love them as a couple; they both seem like smart, intellegent, true actors. he is a real actor, not a celebrity or movie star. So refreshing these days. And she is just great, not t mention stunningly beautiful.
But, she’s also accessible-like you can imagine being friends with her, even though she’s beautiful. She has this interesting combo of girl next door and movie star glam.

she’s really my only ‘girl crush’; i never have those(: though i love blanchett and a few others, i don’t crush on them. Rachel though, I just enjoy seeing in films, etc.

I love that you don’t hear about her private life much, unless she wants you to. And yea, her films lately have been kinda lame. I hope she gets back on the horse-i’d rather see her than Anne H, who I feel is forced down my throat, getting so many roles! uugh…
Sheen seems like that artsy intellectual guy you love to hang out and talk with. God he was hysterical in Midnight in Paris ‘the pedantic one’. That scene with picasso’s painting in the museum, with Owen Wilson, is just priceless. lol

  3. brin says:

They are super cute (and a bit scruffy). I really like her take on their relationship…she seems realistic and I think they will stay together.

    • Louminary says:

Yeah, I think its possible to be both cute and scruffy, right?

Love this couple – I think he is a little underrated as an actor sometimes. See The Damned United – he’s brilliant. And in 30 Rock he is wonderfully horrible! You love to hate him!

“Why is your face like that?!”

  4. Laura says:

Rachael madams is so freaking boring and she hasn’t been on a good movie for years. Blech.

    • Sarah says:

Has she ever made a crically acclaimed movie ? No, which is a shame since she can act.

    • Ellerey says:

I think Midnights in Paris is a good movie. But you have a point, she was the one from the cast who critics praised the least

      • normades says:

That was a thankless role – the shallow girlfriend. Sheen was hysterical though as the pompous dude.

And they are a great couple!

    • Veronica says:

*sigh* I know this prob doesnt qualfy as a “good” movie but I love the Time Travellers Wife… My boyfriend sweetie that he is finally bought me a copy for myself to watch and cry over.

      • Liv says:

Yeah, I really think this is such a great movie! It’s perfect! I mean The Vow for example was nice, but not…perfect! I just love The Time Traveller’s Wife 🙂

  5. Paula says:

Michael did went to see The Vow. He didn’t walk the red carpet with Rachel, but he was seen in the after party along with Rachel’s best friend and her sister. There’s a couple of pap videos from that.

And they have already finished the Terrence Malick flick. Michael only had a brief cameo that will probably end up in the cutting room.

    They are a cute couple.

  6. Jessica says:

Is this the guy who played the werewolf in the vampire movies… dangit.. I cant think of his name but I think the movies were Underworld.

  7. Reba says:

She’s too hot for him, he looks like a nerd ewww

    • Zelda says:

I’ll take a talented “nerd” any day over the lukewarm oatmeal that is Ryan Gossling. Or Ryan Reynolds. Whichever one she dated (I can’t keep track of different shades of beige).

      • brin says:

        That would be tepid Gosling.

      • Reba says:

Both Ryans are superhot this uggo isnt.

      • jamie says:

        Sheen>Ryans

      • pj says:

Ryan Gosling is very hot, but word is he didn’t treat Rachel very well. I don’t know about you, but I would much rather date someone because they are a lovely person and treat me well, rather than date someone good looking who treats me like crap.

      • Danielle says:

It makes me laugh when people equate looks to how a relationship should be. So it’s okay to be in an emotionally abusive relationship because the guy is hot? Whereas if you’re happy with someone that’s not conventionally good looking, she could do better? Really? Great message to send out to girls, always go for the hot guy even if he treats you like dirt, instead of going for the guy that makes you happy no matter how he looks. People suck.

      • may says:

Was Ryan emotionally abusive to Rachel? Does anyone know? I remember they did appear to have had a very stormy relationship.

  8. Jen34 says:

The blonde hair ruins her looks. Why the blonde obsession?

  9. Marjalane says:

Hmmmmmm. Long relationship with Kate Beckinsale? I didn’t know that. She’s an odd one- I think Rachel could do better.

  10. k says:

Rachel is so pretty. He is soo not. How does Michael Sheen keep scoring hotties?

    • grace says:

He has other things going for him. Charm, intelligence and talent. He was *incredible* when I saw him on stage; he just commands the audience’s attention.

  11. k says:

Rachel is so pretty. He is soo not. How does Michael Sheen keep scoring hotties@?

    • Reba says:

      Agreed he’s FUG

    • Enny says:

I personally find him kind of hot. But, I also think he realizes that he’s not likely to do better than her, and if ultimately she wants a ring, he’ll give it to her, despite what he may have said in the past about marriage.

  12. Toot says:

Michael can be hot in movies and he has a good personality. I like them together.

  13. kristipistol says:

I hope she goes back to brunette too!

  14. GoodCapon says:

    They both look lovely.

Michael is not everyone’s cup of tea (like Jeremy Renner) but I’ve always liked him. Totally underrated actor.

  15. Beatrix says:

    aaah. she’s so pretty.

  16. Tiffany27 says:

It’s not always about looks. Beauty fades and when it does you need someone who can make you laugh, hold a conversation etc. and I’m sure Michael does that for her. I LOVE this coupling. Much more than Rachel and Ryan. I hope they’re together for a long time.

  17. Esmom says:

They’re super cute together. Kinda quirky. She’s beautiful but she seems deeper/more grounded than most Hollywood types. They are the anti-Adam Levine and Anna V!

  18. TheOriginalKitten says:

They seems like a solid couple. He’s not attractive at all to me but I bet he’s a funny, charming guy. She is completely beautiful-gorgeous. But I agree about the blonde. I love her with red hair or even strawberry/honey blonde would be an improvement.

  19. mia girl says:

I love this couple. She’s lovely and I find him incredibly charming which makes him attractive.

As to how he scores hotties, I bet that his is super sexy in a relationship… like I can totally see these two having great phone/skype sex when they are apart.

  20. dcdiva says:

Uh, I’m pretty sure she’s a natural blonde (maybe not this particular shade though) …

    • grace says:

Maybe she was fair as a young child but she had mousy brown hair in all her school pictures. Red hair suits her so much. Change it up, Rachel!

  21. Adrien says:

I like Michael. He’s talented. He’s Welsh, so his quirky appearance gets a pass and shall qualify as appealing. If he’s from, say, Colorado then his looks would just be creepy.
Also, hot chicks dig geeky, dorky guys.

  22. Rose says:

    Was he a hobbit?

  23. Eileen says:

I think she is gorgeous-I like her movie choices and she doesn’t take herself too seriously. She’s young and its just a matter of time before she really nails a good part and hits the offical big time-IMO.
I don’t know much about this guy-but I like her off-beat choices in men.

  24. Gene Parmesan says:

He was too smoking hot in Underworld. But the thing about Rachel is that after red eye, wedding crashers, family stone e.t.c she chose to take a step back from it all. She took time off and went to Canada. i read she turned down get smart, casino royale and lots of other big budget movies. Though i applauded her decision (its pretty rare cos she was on top and over exposure ain’t always good) i’ve gotta say it backfired on her. I prefer her to Anne H and would have loved if she was Catwoman. But anyways its not like she is starving….

    • arlene says:

There was speculation that this break she took was more Ryan’s idea than hers. He wanted his girlfriend to be free to look after him. I believe her career suffered because of it. Right after they broke up, she started working again with a vengeance. I’m glad to see Michael doesn’t seem to have a problem with it. They both support each other, which is how it should be.

  25. lucy2 says:

I like them both, and like them together. They were both wonderfully obnoxious in Midnight in Paris, but seem very cool in real life.
I find him attractive but not hot, if that makes any sense.

    • TG says:

Lucy2 – You described exactly what I have been feeling about Rachel and Michael in their roles in Midnight in Paris. I absolutely love that movie and watch it all the time. Many say that she was the weak link in the movie and I disagree. You said it best “wonderfully obnoxious” for both of them. I loved her and him and all of the actors. I love how she will be talking to her finance Gil and then just start talking about her own stuff in the middle of their conversation. This is the best movie I have seen in a very long time. Michael’s “If I’m not mistaken” prefaces are just the best. And I think Woody was smart to cast a softly pretty woman as the fiancé rather than a hard cold blond in the role. I could go on all day about this movie so I will shut up now. I also loved her in the Sherlock Homes movie. I think she looks great in period costume.

      • lrm says:

TG-we watch it all the time in our house too. I saw MIP in theaters, then took my husband and 11 year old to see it on my birthday-they LOVED it, and now my husband, who went out and bought the dvd himself, watches it ALL the time.
it’s the best movie i’ve seen in forever, too. I’m starving for a decent film here-it’s woody and wes anderson for me these days; i’d love steve martin and bill murray to do more.
it’s all CGI now, and the indie films have been taken over by mainstream and basically ruined/diluted/trendy/cliche.

Anyway, ‘if i’m not mistaken’ was awesome. and i watched an interview with them all at cannes [it’s on the dvd] and she said she tried dialling back her role, but owen wilson told her it’s so much funnier when she’s really mean!

Anyway, woody allen always represents the inner psyche-you either know someone like rachel’s role int he film, or you can see a little bit of yourself in her character-just a little-(: so self absorbed, catty and superficial=i mean, i am not like that personality wise, but i can admit to have a part of myself concerned with the trivial; it’s part f life. Same with Sheen’s character: we all know someone like that, or we have a part of ourselves that likes to feel in the know, in order to feel secure.

Whoever played the Ernest Hemingway character was the best, too! ‘It was brave, and true, and honest’. I love when he asks marion coittilard ‘have you ever shot a rhino’….lol

        Also, Adrien Brody as ‘Dali’-hysterical!

  26. Alexis says:

He’s fug, but I still think they’re cute together.

  27. lolas says:

I just want to say that I have that top she’s wearing, and I NEVER thought I’d say this, but I don’t think she’s doing it justice. Without something underneath it (a nice black tank for instance), it looks cheap, and I can tell you it’s not a cheap top. Just had to say that, it’s not every day I see a celebrity on here with the same clothes as me.

  28. Maria says:

yep, wish she would just be the stunning brunette nature made her. When it is that shade, with the auburn touches, she is SO pretty…this look is just like everyone else..looks like she bleaches her eyebrows too..just doesn’t look right. I’m a hopeless, ridiculous romantic..I want her and Ryan…like they were in the Notebook.

  29. Stubbylove says:

Cute but Micheal looks a bit smelly.

  30. Laura says:

I find him really attractive..I hope they get married, that could be a good slap in the face to that whore of Kate Beckinsale!

  31. Danielle says:

Michael was in a relationship with Kate Beckinsale for 11 years and he didn’t propose. He then dated a ballerina named Lorraine for 7 years before breaking up with her to start dating Rachel. He doesn’t strike me as the type to want to get married and Rachel definitely does, so that may be the thing that ends this relationship. Sorry if a guy is with you for 11 years or 7 years and doesn’t propose, and it’s something you want – time to get out of there. Hopefully it works out for Rachel.

    • grace says:

Michael was with Kate Beckinsale for 8 years (early 1995-early 2003) and with Lorraine Stewart for 5.5 years (late 2004 – mid 2010). He has said he wants more kids and I don’t think Rachel will agree to kids before a proposal, so they’ll probably get married eventually.

  32. anti-icon says:

Rachel McAdams is a doll, isn’t she. I like this couple. Michael Sheen, while maybe not as hot as she could get, seems really fun. British wit is sexy, and he’s a talented actor. I hope they are enjoying their coupledom!

  33. Hubbahun says:

    I love her, I love him <3

  34. Michele says:

I love Rachel. Not crazy about her pale blonde hair color at the moment. She looks best as a brunette and really good as a warm, honey blonde. I like her with Michael Sheen. They make a good looking couple.

  35. Camille (The original) says:

Rachel looks gorgeous, love the hair. But they make such an odd couple to me.

  36. bgirl says:

I love him. I am so jealous of her. But I have to admit, they are a cute couple.

  37. Fleur says:

I saw him for the first time in Underworld: Rise of the Lycons, where he played the lead, and the man just oozed sex appeal and charimsa. Most people probably won’t believe that based on the pics here, but seriously, he was super hot. I couldn’t take my eyes off him. Went and looked him up after seeing the movie, and was shocked to see what he looked like in real life (was so muscled, clean shaven, and long haired in the film). He might look a bit like an Absentminded Professor on the red carpet, but he’s a great actor, and is capable of showing serious charisma on film, I totally get why she’s attracted to him. I think she has great taste for choosing to be with him
