Robert Downey Jr. shows off photos of 8-week-old Exton Elias Downey

Robert Downey Jr. and his wife Susan welcomed their first son together, Exton Elias Downey, eight weeks ago. I kept getting the feeling that RDJ was really, really ready to be a father again (he’s already dad to 18-year-old son Indio), and I was thrilled when he and Susan got pregnant. Since Susan gave birth, RDJ has been on the international promotional trail quite a bit for The Avengers – hopefully after this week, he’ll get to spend more time with his wife and 8-week-old son. Of course, Iron Man 3 does start filming soon… so poor Susan. RDJ works like a maniac.

Anyway, RDJ was on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night, and he ended up showing the first photos of Exton. Little Ex! RDJ did the fake-coy thing and you could tell that he and Jay had worked it out beforehand. He said, “I would get in huge trouble. I have to exercise just a little restraint. I’m sorry. I mean… if you want me to, I will.” Here are the pics (and the video):

So cute. CB thinks Exton looks like Kung Fu Baby. Considering RDJ is all about his Wing Chung, little Exton might have some martial arts in his future. SO CUTE!! Of course, I’m still waiting to see photos of RDJ’s kittens.

How adorable. I so like RDJ and where he is now! Glad he was able to work things out in his life and be happy!

RDJ and Drew Barrymore should really get more credit for how far they’ve come in life. Both of them prove that it CAN be done, it just takes work and TAKING RESPONSIBILITY for themselves.
The Cracken would do well to see these ready examples of success after addiction…sure they’ve had their slips, but recovery’s a long process. The Cracken is still on a one-way road, and I fear recent paychecks will only hasten her death. (Sorry I’m so blunt there.)

        Ditto!

      • Mia says:

The most important point is: they wanted to change and so they did. Lindsay doesn’t want to change, she think she’s “great”.

      • Raven says:

Good point. RDJ’s father was really screwed up in some of the same ways as Drew’s family. And they’d both probably be willing to help out LL as well.

    Cuuuuute baby!

  4. ahoyhoy says:

Especially in the 2nd pic, he actually looks like RDJ. It’s the eyes and their expression. How adorable. I usually think most newborns look alike, but not this one.

    oh ! …a baby!

Love this guy. I was so happy that this talented guy was able to turn his life around. Maybe there is hope for Butler.

I really like his wife a lot. Working with Harvey Weinstein notwithstanding, she seems to be a decent, nice person. And I appreciate that she released a pic of her with her baby where she isn’t all made up and just looks like many busy moms: no make-up, wearing a tshirt, hair in a pony tail. I actually like the first pic better than the second.

Oh, and RDJ is hot as ever and looking a bit hmmm, “refreshed” in that first pic. Whatever. Good for them!

    • Jazz says:

She used to work with Joel Silver but I’m not sure about Weinstein? Anyway I love that picture of her with the baby.

      • Jill says:

I’m sorry, you’re right. Not sure why I tied her to Weinstein all this time. Well, that makes me like her even more! 🙂

Very cute. I think that’s a nice way to show the photos but not make it a big deal or sell them.

I just want to nom nom nom those cheeks!!!

RDJ is so cool…bet he is a great dad! Baby Exton is adorable!

    • Raven says:

Yes, and his name is interesting without being weird like so many celeb baby names these days

  11. Stubbylove says:

So love RDJ – sweet pic of mama & baby

  12. marie says:

such a cute baby! Love RDJ.. Did anyone see the “Finding Your Roots” that dug into his genealogy or am I the only nerd who watchs that stuff?

    • Jazz says:

I wanted to see it but it doesn’t air in my country and I couldn’t watch it on the pbs site. *sniffle*

  13. lisa says:

    Really cute baby.

  14. Eve says:

Downey looks weird in that first picture…

Anyway, loved him as Tony Stark for the first time in The Avengers (I always thought the character was pretty much a douchebag in its own movies).

    • Tiffany27 says:

Not gonna hijack the thread but OMFG The Avengers was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • ahoyhoy says:

Everyone’s saying that–but I’m curious….Do you have to know the characters’ backgrounds to care about the movie? Or to understand the plot? I really like a good superhero flick, but my unfamiliarity with the lesser characters makes me hesitant on The Avengers.

      • Tiffany27 says:

Honestly you don’t. All of the characters backgrounds are explained (not in depth) but you’ll know enough to not be lost I promise.

      • Eve says:

        @ Tiffany:

You already saw it? Midnight showing?

By the way, was I right or was I right? I’m going to watch it again next week.

P.S.: I’m leaving the thread now. Had the horrible idea of visiting IMDb’s foruns…the Nolan trolls really don’t want anyone to enjoy The Avengers. It’s sickening there, I’m telling you (it’s worse than the brawl between Brangelunatics/Jenhens here).

Long story short: I spent way too much time there, forgot to have my breakfast and now I have a splitting headache.

      • Eve says:

        @ Ahoyhoy:

Tiffany is right. Actually, you could be completely clueless about all the characters and still be able to enjoy it.

        I had a great time.

      • Aqua says:

Thanks for the input.I’m hoping to see it this weekend with my hubby.Yes this was my pick, but I’m only familiar with a couple of the comic book characters.I have a feeling that this movie will be good enough so that part won’t really matter.Besides I enjoy seeing Mark Ruffalo on and off screen.

      • Eve says:

        @ Aqua:

My opinion is biased because I have loved the character Bruce Banner/Hulk since I can remember but…Mark Ruffalo’s Banner/Hulk is the best thing (among many awesome things) in The Avengers.

        THE. BEST. THING.

His chemistry with Robert Downey Jr. is delightful to watch. You’ll leave the theater with a big smile on your face. I can guarantee you that.

    • I Choose Me says:

^This! Very much this. And holy frack how awesome was Hulk?!

      • Eve says:

So TOTALLY AWESOME!!! I’m so f*cking happy that Bruce Banner/Hulk has finally SMASHED — he’s almost everyone’s favourite (not only mine, a die-hard fan of the character).

Mark Ruffalo nailed it (he did the motion capture too). I told everybody Edward Norton was replaceable. Now, not only replaceable, he’s also forgettable.

  15. Aqua says:

I love new babies especially when they are sleeping.

  16. Samigirl says:

    THAT is a cute baby!

  17. Reece says:

    Awww gorgeous!

  18. Jazz says:

Adorable! I love the picture of Susan with Exton. But he is 12 weeks, not 8 weeks. I think he looks a bit like Indio did when he was younger. I’m so glad Robert has another chance at fatherhood, another chance at marriage, and another chance at life.

  19. dahlianoir says:

    AWWWWWWWWWWWWWW <3

  20. LittleDeadGrrl says:

Love the guy but the name is meh. I keep thinking of Exxon. The baby is freaking adorable.

    • Blather says:

Love the baby! He is beautiful. Terrible name. Why do celebs insist on tagging their offspring with horrible names? Are they so insecure that they must convince themselves that their offspring are profoundly different from the peons who pay to see them on TV, stage and screen?

      • LittleDeadGrrl says:

There are some profoundly stupid names from Celebrities. I like Elias though so atleast the kid as a middle name he can use without too much shame.

As an immigrant with a strange first name (strange for north america not strange for my home country) I can say I was very happy I had a middle name that worked out in English. Parents, please don’t burden your kids with ridiculous names. School is hard enough as it is. You want a stupid name … change your own name!

  21. kris says:

i hope thats a cloth diaper under those cute little pants! 🙂
