Sarah Palin does interview with turkeys getting slaughtered, calls it fun

Warning: If you are sensitive to seeing animals killed, do not watch this video. The video at the bottom of the post has the turkeys blurred out as they’re being slaughtered. This one does not.

Sarah Palin did an interview after pardoning a turkey for Thanksgiving at an Alaskan turkey farm. She talked in her general, hokey way about campaigning and her work as the governor of Alaska now that she’s back in office. The only difference between this interview and the other moments when she’s been taped talking about politics in her chatty way is that there were turkeys getting pushed head first into what’s called a “killing cone” directly behind her, their legs kicking and struggling as they were slaughtered.

Palin pre-approved her appearance in front of the turkeys being killed. Her representative told MSNBC that she was asked if she could be filmed in front of the turkey killing scene and she said “no worries.”

At the end of the interview she talked about how great it was to be there. There was literally a turkey in its last moments right behind her as she said how much fun it was.

Calls it fun as the turkeys are getting killed right behind her
“This was neat. I was happy to get invited to participate in this. You need a little bit of levity in this job… It’s nice to get out and do something to promote a local business and to just participate in something that isn’t so heavy handed politics that invite criticism. Certainly we’ll even invite criticism for doing this too, but at least this was fun.”

In our society we’re disconnected from the realties of how meat gets on the table. Many meat-eating people find it disconcerting to be around animals getting killed – even animals they would gladly consume once they’re converted to food. I eat meat pretty much every day, and if I lived a century ago I probably would have had to kill and pluck the chickens that my family eats. I don’t think I would have considered it “fun” though, just necessary.

Do you think she did it for publicity or that she just went along with the interview request, completely oblivious to the controversy? It looks to me like she knows exactly what she’s doing and is getting a huge kick out of it. She’s certainly getting enough attention for it. She enjoys hunting so at least she’s consistent.

Here’s MSNBC’s coverage of her pardon and the subsequent interview. The turkeys are blurred out in this one.

This sounds exactly like the kind of shit this moron would do. Disgusting.

  2. Kim says:

Wake me up when she has tripped and fallen in a deep pit in Wassilla.

  3. YoMamma says:

My God. Could you imagine the state this country would have been in if McCain would have been elected, died and “This One” would have taken over in the Oval Office? This Thanksgiving I’ll know what I’m thankful for.

  4. Susan says:

It doesn’t bother her. She’s a hunter. My husband hunts too and it wouldn’t bother him either.

This country is so full of weenies. It is amazing really.

She is one tough lady – too bad McCain lost (I voted for McCain in case you were wondering).

Can’t wait for what Obama does for this country. πŸ˜†

  5. DLR says:

wow, hunter or not, that is really tactless. so lucky the usa doesn’t have her as its veep. you all dodged the bullet on that one, no pun intended. 😯

  6. Chun Li says:

she can’t even stage a photo-op correctly. I’m so relieved she’s not vp.

  7. Syko says:

I can’t wait either, Susan. Anything he does is an improvement.

I’m not a PETA member or a vegan, but I have a problem eating meat if I think about where it came from. If I had to watch them being killed, I’d be skipping the turkey course.

  8. geronimo says:

Turkey (slang): a useless thing, a foolish or despicable person.

And the biggest turkey of all is…

  9. Bros says:

    and everywhere such as.

she looks like an 80’s hair nightmare and she is still running her mouth. I guess her idea of saving for a rainy day and being fiscally smart is handing every alaskan 2100 bucks or whatever it was from the high price of oil (in addition to the permanent fund dividend checks) instead of funding our immensely underfunded schools and educational institutions and planning for deficits. she sucks so hard.

good for you susan, for voting for mccain. no one was wondering. its really such a shame we didnt end up with this moron gobble gobble as our VP. she has SO much to bring to the table. like the fact that she hunts and isnt bothered by death on a turkey farm. thats the first thing I think of when I think VP material.

  10. mojoman says:

Personally I think she loves this publicity. She will do anything to be in the spotlight regardless the stupidity.. πŸ™„

  11. get real says:

Sarah Palin is a stupid moron who had her fifteen minutes of fame, and is still trying to squeeze even nano-second out of those minutes.

Can’t she just learn to keep her mouth shut and stay out of the press?

  12. Kay says:

    That is just disgusting.

  13. lilah says:

I can’t help but think that on some level, she is baiting people. I see CB’s point, but it also seems that Sarah is a sly old dog. πŸ˜‰

  14. vdantev says:

And the Dems are the ‘party of death’ πŸ™„

  15. rules says:

Ok, I can see how people would feel disgusted by this, but those same people are the ones that are eating the turkey at tgiving, and eating meat everyday. Yes, the site of an animal meeting it’s demise is gruesome, but it’s ultimately just food. If everyone wants to keep eating meat then animals have to die.

  16. TC says:

This woman is so backwards. Two steps away from barefoot and pregnant in the front yard of her doublewide with her barefoot pregnant kid and somthing in the fryer that she rusteled up for dinner.

  17. crazycatlady says:

Susan- I could not have said it better!
If you plan on eatting a turkey at Thanksgiving, don’t be so upset with the footage. That lady is a lot tougher than most of you Celebitchy reading, Entertainment Tonight watching wimps (me included).

  18. Bodhi says:

Of course she is baiting people, its part of her MO. For someone who talks a bunch of smack about the “gotcha” liberal media, she sure has been doing alot of interviews recently

  19. Mairead says:

It’s one thing enjoying the process of deer and bird hunting, where some skill is needed to track and shoot your prey and the cameraderie that a hunting party can generate. I don’t agree with it, but I can see the point and respect it when done in a sustainable manner and in a way that minimises suffering to the animal.

But for this clot to call the mechanical culling of trapped animals as “fun” sends shivers down my spine. Levity and supporting a local industry is attending the opening of a pantomime or craft fair – not a blinking abattoir.

Even the turkey farmer probably doesn’t think it’s a bundle of laughs, just a necessary job that he has to do, and is trying to do it as efficiently as possible.

I know that she may have been talking just about the pardoning of the one turkey, but agreeing to standing in front of the abattoir is just odd.

  20. ri23 says:

I hope she’s involved in a delightful hunting accident.

  21. geronimo says:

@Rules – for me, it’s not the backdrop or the turkey killing (I’m a meat eater, I know animals don’t grow on trees), it’s her moronic lack of sensitivity and taste and her greed for attention.

  22. Leandra says:

It is disgusting and she’s a whack job but we do eat the product that goes into that cone head grinder don’t we…..

  23. MsLib says:

Up until two years ago I was a vegetarian, then I started eating poultry. Watching this has sent me right back to my Tofurkey — Thank you!

    Palin is terrifying.

  24. Susan says:

    Palin is terrifying.

Good grief — are you serious? πŸ™„

Al Queda called Obama a “house negro” this week. Now THAT is terrifying. What little respect those madmen terrorists have for the leader of the free world.

Obama has his work cut out for him.

  25. Feebee says:

She loves living on the edge… of good taste that is. I’m all for killing turkeys, cows, chickens, fish – a girl’s gotta eat but really do we need it splashed around like that. Having said that we seem to be okay with grisly human crime scenes but we get squeamish when see a bird who’s been raised-for-slaughter get executed? We must be all urbanites here.

  26. Bros says:

yah geronimo-i could give a shit what she is standing next to. its her whole presence, stupidity, obvliviousness to her ignorance that i cant stand. i really really wish she would shut up. every one of these ridiculous interviews and ill-begotten photo ops is going to come back to haunt her and i cant believe she diesnt have one smart person around her letting her know that.

  27. daisy424 says:

I think if I had to do the butchering of the turkey, cow, etc. I would be a vegetarian. I couldn’t do it.

I think her hunting, etc. has more to do with culture. It’s normal for her/them, alien to alot of the ‘lower 48’.
Don’t the Royals, etc. have hunts over in Europe for sport?

For me, I just run up to the grocery store for our meat products.

  28. Lore says:

Everyone bitching better be vegan, otherwise you’re hypocrites.
Goofy place to be interviwed though.

  29. Anon says:

the leader of the free world.

    Excuse me?

  30. Susan says:

Last I checked America is free and the biggest super power on the planet.

  31. daisyfly says:

I grew up on a farm, so slaughtering of animals is nothing new to me. I understand and respect the entire process, when done right, because it takes time, effort, and skill.

All that being said, not once has anyone I have ever known who has slaughtered an animal for food or after hunting would laugh and find the entire process “fun”. This was work for them. The only people who take personal pleasure out of killing something are the psychopaths and the serial killers.

  32. IvyMades says:

I think this was planned. The guy keeps looking at the camera. He’s confused on whether he should continue to work while he’s in the frame. But since no one tells him to stop, he continues with work.

If this was the 1800s and I had to butcher my own meat, I’d do it. I am a self declared omnivore so I’m not gonna bitch about seeing turkeys killed. What I will criticize is her judgement.

She’s trying to shock people. And somehow she sees no problem with little kids watching this on the 6 o’clock news. Note to Palin: Not everyone grows up on a farm…

  33. Holly says:

Actually, Susan, they might have called them that but for you to point it out and not make mention of the reference shows that you are so proud of yourself for being PC that you’re missing the whole point. What they were saying basically is that Obama will be no different and just end up serving the Republican’s best interests, much like the term “house Negro” or “house slave” that is used in reference to a black person who is more in support of white people than their own race.

That should make you happy though, huh? No matter who is in the White House, the Right’s will, will be done.

As for slaughtering animals and Celebitchy readers being a bunch of big babies, as you indicate, I’d say there’s a big difference between eating meat and having to see it killed. We displace the two in our head, compartimentalize it. Not being able to handle it is called sensitivity…I know maybe you can’t understand that and all, seeing as how the sight of blood and violence means nothing to you, but some of us in this world haven’t fallen to apathy and complacency to the point where we no longer value living creatures. And I say this as someone who worked in that very industry. I worked for three years as a meat cutter’s apprentice, and only had issues when I had to wrap pigs feet. Doesn’t mean, however, that I could sit through watching a cow get slaughtered. Sorry that we’re not all as desensitized as you are! Oh wait…no I’m not.

  34. aleach says:

    agreed Geronimo.
she knows EXACTLY what shes doing. trying to piss people off, being interviewed RIGHT IN FRONT of animals being killed, and then when everyone DOES get pissed, she can say “oh theyre sexist (doesnt she love that one?). its the liberal medias fault. that was a ‘gotcha’ moment…blah blah blah…”.
when is this idiot gunna go away??

  35. Susan says:

seeing as how the sight of blood and violence means nothing to you,

    What????

Yes, I’m a conservative, Christian, Republican. There are lots of us out here. Not many in Hollywood….

  36. Baholicious says:

@Susan: Sorry, to me CCR is Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Newsflash – Christ’s teachings are, at their core, fundamentally socialist. Christian socialism, ever heard of it? Look up Tommy C. Douglas and read about how a true Christian moves in the world of politics.

  37. jeannified says:

Man, she always gets on the wrong side of PR! She’s a mess! Thank God she didn’t make it to the White House!

  38. jeannified says:

    Touche, Yomamma!

  39. Ginny says:

I think she was talking about the whole pardoning a turkey ceremony as fun, not the turkeys getting killed.

She’s doing it to irritate people, and I think it’s kind of funny that she’s doing it like that (not funny that the turkeys are dying). That’s where your turkey comes from on Thanksgiving, I don’t know why you’re so shocked. Interviewing in front of it is kind of weird though.

But I am really tired of the Palin bashing. Doesn’t really matter whether I like her or not, it’s old and most of it isn’t true and it’s just not funny or amusing anymore.

  40. Susan says:

    Ditto Ginny.

  41. Bros says:

what isnt true ginny? most of the things I have read about her that question her character and her politics and her intelligence I either read in very reputable journalistic materials, or saw with my own eyes, IE the couric interview, charlie rose interview etc. Im not sure what isn’t true about her but Ive done my research, including visiting factcheck.org’s pages about what is or isnt true, and most of it is, and the stuff that is is pretty damning.

  42. Shane says:

I just think she doesn’t understand how media works. It’s odd, because she’s got a journalism degree.

What was the point of “pardoning” one of the birds if you’re gonna give an interview afterwards where they’re being decapitated and blood drained? Anyways, here’s hoping the dumb Republicans nominate her in 2012.

  43. JaundiceMachine says:

If you’re bitching, I hope you’re reevaluating your eating habits.

I’ve got some killer veg/vegan entrees and sidedish recipes for Spanksgiving, if anyone is inclined to change their mind about giblets and gravy. πŸ˜‰

  44. devilgirl says:

I love turkey and the fixins!

  45. GhostBoi says:

    sarah palin hates animals

  46. aleach says:

@ Ginny- ehhh, ya, it is pretty funny & amusing still. let the bashing continue… πŸ˜†
as much as i cannot STAND palin, as long as shes still doing crappy interviews and trying to remain relevent, im going to continue to laugh at her and watch her make an ass out of herself.
    shes my guilty pleasure.
but i wont be upset if she just gets the hint and goes away FOR-EV-ERRRR!

  47. Kristin says:

    πŸ™ πŸ™

  48. vdantev says:

the leader of the free world. Excuse me?

Yes Anon, Leader of the free world, that little title they always lend the president of America, regardless of your feelings about him. Sorry if you missed the meeting.

  49. MsTriste says:

    She’s a narcissistic sociopath.

  50. Anon says:

Yes Anon, Leader of the free world, that little title they always lend the president of America, regardless of your feelings about him.

I’m happy with Obama, it’s just that title that pisses me off. I’ve never heard it used by non-Americans. As a European I find it pretty fucking insulting, actually. One of the leaders of one of the democratic countries of the world, yes. The leader of one of the largest democratic countries, yes. THE leader of the free world? How’s that for American arrogance?

  51. jacque says:

Why oh why did I watch the video? Now I have to figure out how to break the news to my husband that I will NOT be cooking him a turkey this year. *shudder* I am just so grossed out right now. Poor little things!
On another note, I thought I could not get happier that Obama won….this proved me wrong yet again. What are you thinking Sarah?!

  52. lanette says:

she makes me laugh my ass off..i mean just when i think i can’t laugh anymore at her…she pulls something like this..

    gotta love her……..

hey America we dodged a big one!!! 😯

  53. Jinxy says:

I hope that this shows how close we came to having a sociopath in a powerful position governing normal people. I do hope the dolts in Alaska rethink her as first anything, especially when re-election time rolls around. Needless to say I think she has singlehandedly driven more people away from the Republican party than anything else in the last 75 years. Hizzah you freak!

  54. James says:

And you told me that THIS woman still wants 2012?

  55. RaraAvis says:

Sarah Palin will do ANYTHING to keep the spotlight on her. Do you think it was a coincidence that she was photographed wearing short shorts last week? I couldn’t come up with a term, but MsTriste said it perfectly: she’s a narcissisic sociopath. Perfect for politics!

  56. Aspen says:

As a vegetarian with vegan leanings…I have to /slap forehead on this one.

Oh, Sarah, even I can’t defend you on this one.

/shudder…what in the HELL were they thinking??

  57. A.J. says:

Damn. I don’t even eat turkey and that made me sick to my stomach.

  58. Kat says:

Oh good grief…she hasn’t shut-up since they lost the election.

  59. vdantev says:

THE leader of the free world? How’s that for American arrogance?

I bet it’s like passing a kidney stone for you when a boxer is declared ‘world heavyweight champion’, isn’t it ?

  60. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

Many people in my family are/were hunters and they would have never stood in front of this to do an interview or be photographed, etc. First of all, it has zero to do with hunting–the turkeys are captive. Secondly, my family has more class than to stand in front of animals being slaughtered while being filmed. They might have hunted, but they were also respectful of animals, as well.

Palin is a first-class idiot, plain and simple. And yes, I do think she stood in front of that scene intentionally to goad and bait people. Too bad no one gives a crap about her anymore.

I heard Oprah and a few other people have asked her to be on their shows. Problem is, they just want her on because she’s such a freak show, not because she has anything substantial to say (or even comprehendable!), not because she has any real political future.

SO relieved she isn’t VP, what a huge bullet we dodged with that one!

  61. GrnMtGirl says:

I don’t eat meat – haven’t for 22 years – and I am totally sickened by this video.

Where is PETA when you need them. Oh yeah, photographing naked women… πŸ‘Ώ

  62. mollination says:

I understand that animals need to be killed before they end up on my plate, but I don’t understand why it has to be so inhumane. I didn’t–couldn’t– watch the video, but I have seen the cow and chicken ones on PBS, and I’ll never understand/be okay with it.

I’m starting to think it’s time to make the full transition to veggie. I can’t get this out of my head. Fortunately for Sarah, she has more room in hers than I do.

  63. Cindy Kennedy says:

I am glad this moose-hunting slag is not ever going to set foot in the white house.

  64. Cindy Kennedy says:

I have to laugh when people associate Republican party with Christianity. Sorry, but they are two different things.
