The CMT Music Awards were last night, hosted by Kristen Bell for some reason. Carrie Underwood took home the awards for best video, for “Good Girl.” (Go here for a list of winners.) We’re going to be talking about the fashion. No one really brought it at all, as Kaiser explained earlier in her coverage.
Here we have Carrie in a “silver-and-black sequined Randi Rahm mini dress.” (To quote Red Carpet Fashion Awards.) Considering the event, the dress is decent and it’s very flattering on her small frame. I find her flowing fake hair to be a little much, but this is Carrie and she’s always styled to perform, including some very heavy-handed makeup. Those really fug shoes are just killing it for me, however. I don’t mind thick ankle straps, I have a pair of open toe heels with big straps like this that fasten around the ankles. Those fat straps don’t go with booties, though!
Carrie’s husband Mike Fisher came out to support her, which was nice.
I can’t find a designer ID on Miranda Lambert’s dress, but that’s ok as it’s unremarkable anyway. It looks very “Junior Prom” with the sweetheart neckline, flouncy skirt with fan pattern at the hem, and ribbon waistline. Coupled with the sequin gladiator shoes, it’s just a bad look overall. Miranda’s hair and makeup are very pretty, though. I love her wavy side pony. Miranda won best female video, for “Over You.”
Jordin Sparks was in a salmon color Kevan Hall chiffon gown. It’s a very feminine, pretty dress, but the color is a little too Pepto Bismol for my taste. I love her styling and the way she’s matched her lip color to the hue of the dress. She looks gorgeous.

the problem with these particular awards is both of these laies aesthetics and who they are trying to appeal: is never going to be “avant garde”,”sophisticated”, “clean lines” “interesting”, is always more like:

Grown Up Toddlers and Tiaras
T&A for the Gents
Unflattering on her body type
Mall
Prom

Jordan Sparks’ dress is absolutely gorgeous and the color is spot on. She looks like a million bucks.
Carrie Underwood’s dress looks like it would hurt like hell to sit down in it.
And Miranda Lambert’s is a big fail. She needs help. Whoever is styling her needs to be sacked.

Carrie Underwood’s dress is fine but I’m not enamored of it. I really wish she would ditch the heavy fake eyelashes, I feel she looks better with more normal looking ones. I thought Carrie sounded amazing in her performance though, that doesn’t sound like an easy song to sing.
The funniest moment of the night had to be Carrie’s husband punking her by hugging Brad Paisley first instead of her when she and Brad won an award for their duet. Her reaction was priceless, and it made for funny banter during their acceptance speech.
Jordin Sparks looks absolutely lovely. She’s been nailing it style wise lately.

Could someone please explain to me how Carrie Underwood can win best video, but Miranda Lambert wins Best Female video??? If Carrie Underwood’s is the best of anyone’s male or female, but default, would it not be the best Female Video of the year? I’ve never understood this. Same thing with Entertainer of the Year. For example, if Keith Urban wins Entertainer of the Year, how can Tim McGraw win Male Entertainer of the Year?

I think Miranda looks cute. I love her healthy figure. Her dresses usually have her boobs spilling out everywhere so this is a pleasant change.
Jordin Sparks who I don’t find interesting at all looks great in that dress. The colour looks wonderful on her.

I do not care for CU… she looks like a hot mess. She wants to be country but sings songs that are NOT country, she dresses like Hooker Barbie, I would HATE to see her makeup bills.
Poor Miranda. I DO like her but bless her heart her body type is just hard to dress! She is a pretty woman but she always looks dumpy.

I like Carrie’s dress, but the shoes are fug. Poor Miranda, I know she can’t help it, but she always looks like a sack of potatoes. Jordin looks beautiful here, that salmon color looks gorgeous on her.
