Natalie Morales is pissed off at NBC, ‘Today’ & her alleged ex-lover Matt Lauer

Matt Lauer is such a pimp. That’s what I get from all of these stories about the behind-the-scenes chaos of NBC’s morning programming. The Today show has been struggling for the past year, ever since Ann Curry took over as co-anchor of the show with Lauer. Lauer and Curry’s chemistry is just OFF somehow, and Ann has been visibly struggling in the position. The result has been a drop in ratings, and sources continue to claim that Lauer (and producers) place the blames on Curry. Yesterday, TMZ reported that Curry wants NBC to buy out her contract completely – giving her $20 million to walk away from NBC. NBC wants to give her $10 million and a “foreign correspondent” position. So… they still have some issues to work out.

Meanwhile, NBC is reviewing their options for Ann’s replacement. Sources tell TMZ it will definitely be Savannah Guthrie, while other sources tell Radar that it’s Hoda Kotb. The woman not being mentioned by anyone? Natalie Morales. The same Natalie who was Lauer’s VERY ALLEGED rumored lover circa 2006-07. The same Natalie who might have a young child who looks a great deal like Matt Lauer. Imagine that – Lauer didn’t want to promote his maybe-alleged lover? Weird. So, Page Six reports that Natalie is considering leaving Today too, because she thinks she’s being “passed over”:

Could “Today” veteran and news reader Natalie Morales be the next to leave the NBC morning show? Sources tell us “Today” will announce the long-rumored departure of its co-host Ann Curry by the end of the week, and that the show’s third-hour co-host Savannah Guthrie is the front-runner to replace her. The network’s Hoda Kotb has also been reported to be in line to take the reins.

But, either way, sources tell us Morales could be next out the door. “If Natalie’s passed over for the job, she’s going to leave next,” a source told Page Six. Morales has been with “Today” since 2006 and was mentioned as a possible replacement for Meredith Vieira when Vieira stepped down from her co-anchor post last year.

“This will be the second time [Natalie] has been passed over for the top job. And she’s not happy,” a source tell us.

A NBC Universal rep had no comment on Curry or her replacement, but said the talk about Morales being disgruntled is “totally untrue.”

A different source adds: “Natalie couldn’t be happier in her current role.”

Curry, meanwhile, is expected to leave “Today” imminently, after a year on the job. During her time as co-anchor, the program’s ratings have slipped — at times lower than rival ABC’s “Good Morning America.” Sources tell us NBC suits are currently locked in meetings around the clock to finalize Curry’s exit. The network has been negotiating with her over a severance package from her $10 million-a-year contract.

While the sources said an announcement about Curry is finally expected by the end of the week, some insiders said the news could come as soon as today. Although sources at NBC say Guthrie is the current favorite to replace Curry, others close to the talks say that brass had not made any final decisions as of last night.

[From Page Six]

I’m kind of glad that NBC isn’t pulling from that shallow talent at MSNBC. Wait, that’s not fair – I was just thinking about how much I love to hate-watch Morning Joe. But you know who I love on MSNBC? I love Rachel Maddow, and I would love to see her try her hand at morning programming. That would be unique, right? But Rachel is really good at light banter AND straight reporting, and I could see her exceling on a morning show. Still, they won’t do that. They’ll go with perky Savannah, trust me. It won’t be Hoda. It won’t be Natalie “Scarlet A” Morales either.

Maddow is too good for the Today show, msnbc needs all the help they get during primetime

    • QQ says:

      Agreed But I adore her!

Or OHH Tamron Hall with Either a Haircut or Letting her hair grow cause she is Beautimonous and delightful and that her makes her look A Straight up soccer mom

      • Bite me aka aniston says:

Ms. Hall is so fine I would drink her daddy bath water… She is so pretty and confident.

      • Lisa says:

They all need to go. Savannah stinks. Natalie interuppts EVERYBODY. None of them are fun. Natalie interupts EVERYBODY. Tamron Hall is the “ONLY ONE” with class. Did I say Natalie interupts everybody? (and talks under her breath while people are talking. Very weird) Love Al too. He’s fun. This show has got to go. 4 hours? PLEASE! Did I mention Natalie talking over guests?

    • Beatrix says:

Exactly, the Today show would be out of its league trying to recruit Maddow. She delivers important information and would be stooping low on Morning tv. Lauer needs to keep it zipped up, though 🙂

      • Suzzane Antonucci says:

I vote for Maddow & Mr. Ed, to replace Kathy and Hoda with the very important political times coming very soon. Get tired of their obcession with booze. There are some pitiful alcaholics who really don’t need their encouragement.

    • leelee says:

nothing to do with matt lauer being a pimp – and can we get over using that term as something positive? if I say barbara walters is such a hooker…well, doesn’t have the same connotation as pimp has nowadays, does it? anyway, enough of the pimp sh*t…as for ann curry, she was always treacly and lame, nothing to do with chemistry, just who she is..just like her sisters in ho-hum blandness, natalie morales and savannah guthrie…not a thimble full of charisma between the two of them. Hoda wouldve been awesome, but she and KL now host most popular hour in morning tellie, so they won’t take her away from that. NBC should give that girl sarah from fourth hour a shot…but she may not have the “news chops” yet…

    • tina Donahoo says:

I love Maddow and feel she needs to have her own prime time show! Especially during a election year or give her the meet the press on sundays! Now that would rock! She can keep other show!

      • Bite me aka aniston says:

Can’t stand David Gregory ass… Yeah Maddow needs to move over to meet the press, excellent … Maddow is already on primetime basically the only reason to watch msnbc… It’s either that or fox news* let out a slow, painful cry*

      • ahoyhoy says:

Maddow does deserve MTP, because she not only exhaustively PREPARES for her interviews, she can also respond off-the-cuff….ask follow-up questions with facts behind them, etc. She’s intellectually nimble.

Maddow will call people out on lies & spin too. She was a friggin’ Rhodes Scholar, ffs!
And yet she’s so NICE when calling people out. Rachel is a delight to watch in action!

The Today Show is beneath most anyone these days. Just seeing Lauer on television makes me unconsciously make a ‘smells bad’ face. He’s slimy. Replace Lauer AND Curry, IMO.

      • Raven says:

What a great idea putting Rachel Maddow on MTP! That is too logical to happen, though. She’s so bright and well spoken.

    • Crazy Charlize says:

Mad Cow?? PMSNBC deserves this hysterical, demented, effeminate guy.

He never thinks before he opens his pie hole, just plows forward based on raw emotion.

    • mayamae says:

Absolutely. Rachel Maddow is brilliant but makes sure to never condescend to her audience. She can explain complex ideas in a simpler way. She is a liberal who can calmly make a valid point with minimal drama. Love her!

      • Tanya says:

As much as I despise that chinless Matt Lauer, Rachel Madcow would be just as bad if not worse than him. I won’t watch one minute of either one of them.

  2. dorothy#1 says:

why can’t they pick an unknown? I don’t love anybody on the today show.

  3. corny says:

Burn! Charlie Rose here comes Natalie and she’s pissed!

  4. Susan says:

I never watch any of these morning shows. But if Rachel Maddow were to sign on, I’d tune in.

  5. G says:

Lauer is a sad sack of crap. It’s time for HIM to go. Who made HIM the sun to a list of satelite co-hosts.?

  6. Tiffany27 says:

Just want to say I love Rachel Maddow. Am totally girl crushing on her.

    • Chicagogurl17 says:

YES! Same here. Rachel but for morning fluff, why is no one talking about KELLY RIPA! KELLY WOULD BE AWESOME.

      • Amanda says:

Kelly Ripa? Are you kidding? She is a complete bore. While I am much closer to her age than Regis’ age, without Regis Live is a snoozefest. Regis has that quality that Johnny Carson had on the Tonight Show – special. The Tonight show has never been the same without Johnny’s talent and Live is unwatchable with Kelly.

  7. Andrea says:

Great story, but it looks like a stretch to say that one of her kids looks incredibly like Lauer…check out the link.

    http://www.moviespad.com/celebrity/images/81148/natalie-morales-kids/

    • valleymiss says:

The kid resembles Matt, but who knows? The main takeaway from the National Enquirer (who I think was the first to make the lovechild claim) was that they asked Natalie’s husband, and *he didn’t deny it.* Now, what does that mean? Does it mean that he hung up the phone or slammed the door in their face? Does it mean that when asked, he said, “No comment”? Hmmm. Either way, Matt is a scumbag for sleeping around so much at work.

  8. lisa2 says:

The funniest thing is how much HAIR Matt has lost. He looks like an Ostrich.

NOPE I don’t like Matt at all. Wonder why the powers that be never considered that it is not Ann that is the problem but Matt. Ann does great when there are different male co-host and even female. Matt is the problem and I can’t wait for when she leaves and the ratings keep going down. Matt it will be your time to explain then.

Just like Katie Couric on the news. Nobody wanted to see her outside the Today show.

    • Vic says:

A voice of reason. ML is or should be on his way out . Producers can only cover his *ssinine ways for so long. Matt should be on his way down the poop shoot soon for NBC to recover.

  9. lucy2 says:

I like Rachel Maddow too, but I wouldn’t wish the Today show on her. I imagine she’d get bored with the nonsense they have to do.
Who’d have guessed all this showbiz drama would be coming from a morning show?

    • Jenny says:

I don’t think she would have the patience to put up with the Kardashians and all the other tacky E entertainment idiots that are pushed on the Today Show. She would eat them alive and spit them out again (which, come to think of it, would be great!)

  10. bea says:

I agree with “G” – who says Matt Lauer isn’t the ‘problem’ with the Today Show? He comes off as a smug creep and he totally turns me off.

Ann Curry came across sort of “babble-ly” and nervous on the show. Hopefully she can find something that fits her better and if not she can stay home and look at her MILLIONS!

I love that yellow dress Ann has on in these photos. Great color / style for her.

  11. Birdix says:

Natalie has the same awkwardness that Anne has, and it can be similarly uncomfortable to watch.

  12. MBGB says:

Matt Lauer looks like a guy who’s being prepped for the electric chair.

Talk about a guy who is 100% talent-free and just fell ass-backwards into a pile of money.

  13. Jayna says:

Love Matt. He has been a huge reason they’ve been on top for years. Hate him all you want, but Ann was never right for the job. Savannah will be a bust, even more so than Ann.

    • JudyK says:

Also love Matt…he’s damned smart and informed. Anyone who has watched him every single day for the past ten (10) years as I have would know that.

As far as his personal life, he may well be/have been a douche…I don’t care; I care about how well he does the news.

As much as I like Matt, I would NEVER watch the Today Show again with Natalie Morales as co-host. She turns my stomach. Not sure about Savannah Guthrie in that position, but I don’t get the criticism directed at her. She’s an attorney and also damned smart.

      • cr says:

But from what I’ve seen of her, she doesn’t ‘seem’ that smart, if that makes any sense. She’s cute, but there’s nothing about her that makes me go ‘I want to watch and listen to what she says.’
Combined with the already mentioned tendency toward more tabloidy stuff, if they hire SG instead of someone like Tamron or Hoda, I won’t be watching at all.

      • JudyK says:

cr, I have to agree with you. I like Savannah, but I can’t really see her as co-anchor. I’d watch with Hoda in that spot.

  14. MarcyParcy says:

Rachel Maddow? Straight Reporting? She’s a hack just like O’Reilly and Bill Maher. TV needs more professional, unbiased anchors to just give the news rather than their opinion of what the news is/should be. MSNBC and Fox lost this household a long time ago because of those issues. Its crazy how the same event can be covered in 2 completely polar opposite ways and then the real story comes out online.

and Matt Lauer is way overrated. Ann Curry doesn’t deserve to be screwed over on the count that Matt doesn’t like her. He and his balding self should be the ones being replaced by new talent as its needed all around.

gosh i need coffee im cranky lol

    • Laurie M. says:

@MarcyParcy – you said everything I needed to say.

    • mcleodlt says:

      Totally agree on all points!

    • Esmom says:

I agree with you on RM. I wanted to love her because I generally agree with her positions and viewpoint. But her delivery makes me cringe. I can’t watch either…she’s basically stooping to the level of O’Reilly or Limbaugh and is contributing to the decline of serious journalism in a big way.

    • vic says:

      Exactly!

    • Marie Antoinette Jr. says:

I’ve never really watched Rachel except on Bill Maher! LOL But I like all of them BECAUSE they are entertaining. At the end of the day I know what I believe and the animated ramblings of a pundit aren’t going to change that. So, I wouldn’t mind an opinionated or funny person on the Today show. How much of it is serious news anyway? Like 10%?

    • Crazy Charlize says:

Thank you! I’m amazed at all the loons here who actually admire this libtarded bitch.

    • ERM says:

      Well said!

    • Amanda says:

Bill O’Reilly a hack? Hardly. But Maher, Lauer and Maddow are definitely talentless hacks who are biased like 99% of the media. I would never watch MSNBC, the lowest rated newscast on TV.

      far leftist wackos.

  15. JW2 says:

I hate the Today show. I don’t understand why they are not replacing Matt if ratings dropped. He is gross to me. For heavens sake he is going ball. If Matt is a cheater then why is that ok? Seems NBC rather keep this cheater and pay off the women he cheat with. That show need new blood because it’s so old and stale.

  16. Lindy says:

You know what? I don’t watch morning TV–and I honestly don’t know many women in my age group (35 and under) who do. It feels like something my mom watches, and it gives me no actual info. I listen to NPR when I’m getting ready/getting the kiddo ready. Also, when I have caught the Today Show recently, I have to admit that Matt Lauer looks and acts like a complete tool. maybe they should ditch him–he has been around for ages and feels stale. Don’t think Ann’s the problem.

    • Esmom says:

I’m over 35 and I don’t watch any of them either. I used to watch GMA a little bit but it’s been at least 15 years.

From the little bits I catch at the gym it seems like nothing but fluffy garbage and I agree, totally stale. NPR is my main news source, too, and while they’re not exactly unbiased they are at least substantive.

    • Marie Antoinette Jr. says:

I’m over 45 :-O and started DVRing it a couple years ago because I saw clips of it on The Soup; and I wanted to watch Kathie Lee make a fool of herself everyday!
So I’ve never seen Meredith or any of the other “anchors.” But all in all it’s a pretty boring show.

      • Ruth Dunbar says:

I’m 38 and started watching Today when I was 11. At this point it’s a habit I can’t break. The good, the bad, the ugly. The young and the restless, the middle aged and pantsless, whatever. I’ve stuck through pretty much all of it. Count me in as a Matt Lauer non-hater, though. He has the chops for the job, and Ann never did. Which doesn’t mean she’s unlikeable or a bad reporter; this just isn’t her place.

Jane Pauley and Meredith will always be my two favorites. I like Carl Quintanilla, too, FWIW.

  17. OXA says:

I would watch if NBC hired Debra Norville back and got rid of Mutt Lauer.

  18. stinky says:

(re-posting) Savannah’s voice is very grating guys… i have nothing against her at all i swear, but her VOICE is nasally and AWFUL….. mark my words, if she gets the job, you’re gonna learn to hate hearing her! yikes. I’ve n-e-v-e-r understood who/how/why Matt L. got (and kept) the gig, but teaming him w/ Savannah is prolly gonna make me jump ship, and im really lazy and i typically like to just leave it on NBC after viewing my local news. That habit will change if this casting rumor is true

  19. The Original Mia says:

Today has always irked me. Didn’t like it when Katie was there. Still don’t like it. The only show I watch is the Halloween show & that’s just to see what ridiculousness they come up with.

GMA has always been a better show with its mix of informative journalism & fluff.

Today has slowly crept towards tabloid journalism & that’s why people over a certain age are turned off by it. Blaming Ann is ridiculous. The show’s schtick has been getting stale for years. It’s just unfortunate timing that it coincided with Ann’s hiring.

I don’t blame Natalie for leaving. If she’s been passed over again, then it’s time to move on. I’m sure CNN, which needs all the help it can get, would love to have her.

  20. velouria says:

They’re all so scary in these close up pics…and they all have crap personalities.

They need a whole new round of people — can’t make the ratings any worse I suspect.

  21. Meanchick says:

I’ve always suspected that ML was not a great guy to work with. He wants the show to be his and his only and it comes across as such. They can’t get it right and they think it’s everyone except Lauer? Maybe it’s time to replace him with a nicer [younger?] guy with more charisma and the ablility to be harmonious with others. He’s not a team player by any stretch of the imagination.

  22. Anon says:

NBC jumped the shark long ago with Kate Gosselin constantly whining and everyone of them kissing her butt. (except Ann)
    CBS does the news, period.

  23. Nev says:

Ann Curry is beautiful and great at her job.

    • Crazy Charlize says:

Natalie is gorgeous once you cover up the dark circles under her eyes. Curry is just so damn bland.

  24. the original bellaluna says:

Can the whole thing and use John Stewart, Steven Colbert, and their mutual crews. THAT I would watch!

    • Crazy Charlize says:

So you prefer fake news over fluff news?

      • the original bellaluna says:

Say what you will, but there is as much truth to what they say (albeit sardonic) as there is on any other cable “news” program.

      • Ally says:

Seriously! The Daily Show was the only news-like show consistently researching old tape to see what politicians had said previously, or generally to fact-check today’s statements. Meanwhile the supposedly legitimate news unquestioningly regurgitated today’s talking points with no reference to reality or history. Or interviewed Henry Kissinger on 60 Minutes. Again.

People who like the Daily Show, Colbert or Maddow are looking for some truth in their news, and not context-free he-said/he-said fact-check-free so-called ‘reporting’.

      • Jesse says:

The Daily Show has never fact-checked anything. They are faux news and to hear people say otherwise tells you the level of intelligence the average person has. Could there be a more biased show? No, I don’t think so. If Stewart does say something against a lefty on the program it’s big news because everyone is so shocked that he went off the plantation.

  25. phoenix says:

I know someone else said this, but now it’s all i can think about. SAVANNAH GUTHRIE HAS NO UPPER LIP!

  26. Ally says:

How about Natalie Morales and no Matt Lauer. Fella is getting to look like the painting-in-the-attic version of himself.

How about a newer handsome hunk, without all the tacky baggage, for the stay-at-home set?

  27. original lucy says:

First off, nobody needs a news show on for 6 hours! These morning shows and these 24 hour news channels do not have enough REAL news to supply us with for that length of time. Because of this, they take stories that shouldn’t be a story and will practically make stuff up! News shows should NOT be reporting guesses and speculations…the news should be FACTS only, but since that would only make these shows 15 minutes long, all these people at the networks wouldn’t be making millions of dollars!

  28. Lady_Luck says:

Wow, a $10million dollar payout in this current economoic climate and she still isn’t satisfied by that? How much more botox does she need? These anchors remind me of plastic spoilt brats. None of the above really have any wow factor, ann curry is such fake and boring.

  29. Louise L says:

Annette divorce Matt once a cheater always a cheater!! They were made for each other they are both liars!!Whats wrong with Nalalie’s husband? Cheating and a baby?Great roll model and mother!!!Shame on the both of you for breaking up two families!!!

  30. Bobbie Reyes says:

I was VERY disappointed that Natalie Morales was given the position of co-anchor! She is much more polished, beautiful (watchable), interesting, articulate and everything else, than Savannah. Now I know why she didn’t get the position. If they rumors are true, then this would perfectly illustrate the old saying, ‘Never date your co-workers’. It’s a same she has to suffer because of office politics.

  31. Talia says:

They are all highly overpaid. Lauer is a has been, Guthrie has FAT knees, Morales acts like a barbie and Roker looks like Fat Albert, acts like him, too. Get a whole new team!

  32. Daria says:

I love Natalie Morales’ on screen persona. What she has done behind closed doors is beyond me but it hasn’t affected her ability to maintain a professional edge with a very faceted, chic, well-spoken, educated presence. I love her and was somewhat disappointed she wasn’t chosen over Savannah. I had no idea that she had an alleged affair with Matt or that such rumors even circulated but no doubt, that’s the reason they didn’t recruit her for the position. She’ll do what’s right for her.
