Emma Stone in Chanel at the LA ‘Spider-Man’ premiere: adorable or fug?

Last night was the big Hollywood premiere of The Amazing Spider-Man. It comes out today next week. Are you going to see it? I’m not. And it’s not because of any dislike of the people involved – I really do wish Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone all the happiness and career success in the world. But the Spider-Man franchise is exhausting, and I’m kind of over it. But I still like looking at the premiere photos, so let’s jump in, shall we?

Emma Stone wore this white and pink Chanel dress for the LA premiere. Thoughts? I don’t hate it. It looks like something Diane Kruger would wear. I don’t hate the bustle/hip thing (words are failing me right now), and I think that overall, Emma looks pretty cute. Cuter than she’s looked for most of the Spider-Man promotional tour, at least. My one complaint: the pink embellishment/embroidery is too heavy, and it ADDS weight to Emma’s small frame and makes her look thick-waisted. Another complaint: for the love of God, she needs to do something different to her hair. Also: I LOVE HER RING!!!!!!!! Can someone get me an ID on the ring?

More photos…Rhys Ifans and Anna Friel. Hate her dress, love his shoes.

God, I love Martin Sheen. I’ve been doing my own little West Wing marathon lately. He really is wonderful.

Spidey himself, Andrew Garfield. He doesn’t photograph well. At all.

Denis Leary. Controversial opinion: I would hit it. I love him.

Matthew Gray Gubler was at the premiere! Enjoy, Gube fangirls.

They could just finish this promo trip. It’s getting boring because they are boring people. There is nothing interesting about them.

Man, I wish I was as bold and brave as Charlize and could shave off my head!

See, I had to scroll down at the feautured links to find something interesting to comment on.
      Emma is boring.

    • Anna says:

      +1

  2. Katie says:

I hate the dress but Emma looks amazing! Her skin is to die for.
I do not understand the Andrew Garfield appeal one bit. He’s scrawny and unattrctive. Blech.

  3. cmc says:

She looks so much more pale/washed out in general with the blonde hair, so why would she add a white dress to the mix? Pretty girl, should be using this time as a blonde (that hopefully she’s required to keep, because otherwise she should go back to red!!) to wear lots and lots of bright colors.

Kaiser-I just saw Leary in an interview last night and was reminded of all the sex dreams I used to have of him. It’s the voice I think (I’m a voice girl-it’s my thing). Plus he’s funny and funny is sexy AND he’s very actively involved in charity work out here in Boston/MA area.

Emma looks sweet and I suppose the dress is nice, I just have trouble liking that style. It looks good on her though. Also, is she losing a shit-ton of weight? She’s looking really skinny lately…

    • cmc says:

+ 1 on Leary…that is one sexy man.

    • Sillyone says:

Kitten-I completely agree with the voice thing, OMG my go to guy voice is Sam Elliott his voice yabba dabba doo. And Leary completely doable.

I like the bodice of Emma’s dress hate the hip thing going on.

  5. NYC_girl says:

I think she’s naturally a blond. But I agree with you, she looks a little washed out. She did a spread in Vogue and thought the same thing.

    • Genevieve says:

I agree with cmc…back to the ginger for Emma! The Chanel seems to be almost physically overwhelming ES…it’s a formidable dress with a boxy form. It really think it belongs on someone taller. That being said, I do think ES looks adorable in just about every designer she wears. Even if I wish she would go ginger with her hair colour again.

Kaiser – I can’t fault you on the Denis Leary confession. I would too, even if he’s about 30 years older than me.

Can we have a sit down with Emma about her hair? I know she’s a natural blonde, but holy bejeezus she looks so blah. I’m not even going to touch her style with a 10 foot pole. The whole bustle thingy looks like what happens when your umbrella breaks.

  7. Nessa says:

Hate Emma’s dress. Love her shoes!

  8. Bad Irene says:

Meh on the dress, love her shoes and the ring is by Cartier.

  9. L says:

Again, I’m still trying to figure out what Anna Friel has done to her face. From pushing daises to now-it looks bizarre. She should have stuck with that guy who played Remus Lupin in HP.

  10. grabbyhands says:

I like the dress, it’s just oddly constructed.

  11. johnnybadboytapia says:

Martin Sheen was the best looking one and best dressed there!!!

  12. ramona says:

Wow – I have no idea who this Gubler fellow is but he’s sure nice to look at.

nightmare prom dress stolen from snow white’s closet

  14. T.C. says:

Kaiser the Spiderman movie comes out Tuesday July 3 not today. I hate the dress on Emma. Her face looks so much older with th lighter hair. She looks older than Andrew Garfield.

  15. Jaime says:

Emma has lost her edge for me. Now she’s just the Revlon model that went gaga for her costar and is shoving her PDA down my throat like she’s desperate or something. She was SOOOO much more interesting when she was the funny indie girl that was dating Kieran Culkin privately.

  16. mery says:

meh she looks okay, but this was her BIG premier, she should’ve worn something better, this looks boring and safe, come on Emma!!!

  17. Reece says:

It would look better on somebody not as pale. Andrew’s tie is crooked so Denis & Martin (really like his tie) win for the guys.

  18. Stubbylove says:

Love the silhouette of the dress and color from far away and great choice of shoes. Up close it looks weird and boxy. I would hit it w/Dennis Leary all day and night – damn he’s a sexy beast.

  19. Betty says:

    The ring is Cartier.

  20. dizzy says:

I love Emma. Her face looks lovely here. The heels are cute (though they looks painful), but it’s a no on the dress.

  21. Lbeees says:

I feel like this movie is going to bomb. Too soon to reboot the franchise & Andrew Garfield does not seem like a box office draw. He wasn’t very compelling in the previews… Well we shall see!

  22. Marianne says:

OOooooh I WILL enjoy pics of that yummy Dr.Spencer Reid!!

  23. Jill says:

WTF is that crap in the middle of the dress? It’s too thick and poofy, looks like an appendage. Would have been better without grandma’s velvety tablecloth glued to the waist.

  24. Kosmos says:

LOVE Emma Stone, but do NOT love that dress, gag. What an unpleasant looking little frock! The red adornments look like snakes or spiders, not at all attractive or appealing, sorry. She is beautiful, though. Andrew Garfield has GREAT hair. Do not like the dress on Anna either, but it’s better than Emma’s dress.

  25. Ally says:

I don’t know what it is with Chanel in the last 5-6 years. The collections look amazing as runway fantasies, but just look ridiculous and costume-amateurish in real life, even in the artifical environment of the step-and-repeat/red carpet.

From a design perspective, this is a clever bit of modernizing a Marie-Antoinette shape into a mini dress. But it look silly and distracts from Emma’s gorgeousness.

And the red appliqué… I hate to think that it took a master seamstress hours to do this. It looks bridesmaidy.

Andrew there needs to get shirts specially tailored so that the collar sits a lot higher on him and minimizes the length of his neck. He does look rather disproportionate, especially in still shots. Or scarves. Look into scarves, Andrew!
