George Clooney & Hugh Jackman in late night ‘Sexiest’ award feud

Being sexy can really bring out a vicious, jealous, petty side in a man. Just look at George Clooney. Everyone knows George is rage-filled and spiteful, especially over his sexiness. This is why an obviously furious Clooney dialed up Hugh Jackman at two in the morning, angrily berating him for stealing George’s beloved Sexiest Man Alive title.

Hugh Jackman may have earned this year’s People Magazine Sexiest Man Alive honor, but not everyone thinks he’s so deserving!

“George Clooney rang me at two in the morning,” Hugh tells the mag. “I was half asleep and I said to him, ‘Ah, George sweetie, good to hear from you.’”

But joking George rang the ‘Australia’ star to say he wasn’t too pleased with the magazine’s decision.

“He goes, ‘Shut up, Jackman! I know what you did! You started this big campaign that’s been going on and [you] took the title away from me.’”

And it’s not just George who’s trying to get used to Hugh’s new title.

“[My dad] said to me, ‘I can’t really talk to you about being sexy. It’s a little weird,’” Hugh said. “Mind you, I’m still waiting for the birds and the bees pitch from him. That hasn’t happened either!”

[From the Insider]

I love George Clooney. I’m guessing the 2 a.m. thing wasn’t a deliberate part of his joke and happened accidentally due to being in a different part of the world. But it would sure make the call more random and confusing that if he’d done it around dinnertime.

I hate to say this because Clooney really is great, but he deserved to lose out to Jackman this year. Hugh has reached a new level of hotness lately, whereas Clooney has taken a slight dip. Especially since he started growing a mustache. You know People is not going to label anyone with that look as sexy.

Here’s Hugh Jackman and the cast of “Australia” at the New York premiere of last night. Images thanks to WENN.

  2. Syko, ZOMG ABS! Yeah, Hugh and George are both pretty great… in different ways. One likes to pay for it… and one is Hugh Jackman.

  3. I just keep thinkin’, if Hugh can go for a woman 10 years older than he is, then why not stretch it out to 25 years older than he is? Come to mama!

  4. Syko, I’m sure he’s *totally* thinking about leaving Deb for a fine “aged to perfection” GILF. You should totally stalk him! *mailing Syko binoculars*

  5. I never thought Clooney was sexy, but even if he was, he aged out of that category years ago. H really should start looking at nursing homes.
Jackman, on the other hand, is a deliciously husky piece of male flesh. I could be tempted to forget he is married :)

  6. Poor George, why the hell would People Mag give it to him this year, what’s he done except lose too much weight and grow a mustache that makes him look a bit creepy? On top of all Hugh’s obvious attributes (and who wouldn’t want to be on top of his attributes) he has a superior sense of humour and sense of self.

  9. It’s an anecdote, people (well, just to the people who didn’t seem to get that this was a joke). The men always try to play down this award because it is slightly ridiculous.

Regardless, they are both allowed to fight over me. Here’s the catch, they both get me. Yay Team Me!!!!!

  10. Some of you don’t seem to understand that George and Hugh are JOKING. Do you really think that either one seriously cares who is named sexiest man of the year? It’s a JOKE. And the fact that they joke about this is a large part of what makes them both so sexy.

  11. I think they ribbed the heck out of Mat Damon when he won. These guys love to prank each other, and I have to say I love it when they let us in on it so we can have some fun too.

  12. There are idiots out there who actually believe this..it’s a joke, people..and hopefully these two good looking guys realize the whole People thing (most beautiful, sexiest) is just crap that’s engineered by agents.

    Quite.

  14. I understand that this is a joke, I understand that George didn’t ring Hugh and they made up the story for a bit of fun. I just don’t think it makes George sound funny. Of course none of these guys take it seriously, if they did they’d hardly be suitable for the title in the first place.
