Reese Witherspoon sent her assistant to tour Paris sewer with her son

Reese Witherspoon was on the David Letterman show last night rocking a strapless black knee length cocktail dress. The 32 year-old mother of two told some funny stories about her kids, Deacon, 5, and Ava, 9. She didn’t mention her boyfriend, Jake Gyllenhaal, or her ex, Ryan Phillippe. She kept it light and funny and had me laughing a few times.

David asked her about winning the Oscar and how it changed her life. She said she was nervous walking up to the podium and was worried that she might trip or swear. As to where she keeps the statue in her house, she said it’s in a place of honor along with her kids’ school crafts.

Keeps her Oscar in a place along with her kids’ artwork
“I just have it out with the kids’ artwork and stuff… The kids hold it and dress it up…

“The next morning [after winning the Oscar] my daughter was six and she’d just lost a tooth the night I had left. I said ‘you know honey that award we were talking about.. mommy won!’

“She said, ‘That’s amazing. You know what’s even cooler, I’m going to be the first kid in February to have lost a tooth’ and it just put it in perspective and we were both winners.”

On sending her assistant to tour the sewer in Paris with Deacon
Reese said she was in London and Paris with her kids this summer and that she wanted to see the Eiffel Tower and the Musée d’Orsay. Ava went with her to the art museum, but Deacon was dead set on touring the sewer.

Dave: “You can actually see the sewer system of Paris?”
Reese: “Oh yes and they explain to you, ‘when you flush the toilet, this is where it goes.’ This what my son wanted to do.”

“So I was very busy working and I couldn’t go, so I had my assistant go with him [laughs]. She said it was just awful, ‘Reese it smelled so bad it was disgusting, you’re so glad you didn’t go.’

“I said, D, how was it? He goes, ‘totally awesome.’

“They really go down into the sewer and explain the whole system and how it was built hundreds of years ago. It’s kind of cool.” [Transcribed from Reese Witherspoon’s appearance on the Late Show, aired 11/25/08]

Reese is promoting her upcoming film, Four Christmases, which is out in the US today, November 26.

Cute story – I’d have gone with “Reese’s kids thinks losing a tooth is cooler than an Oscar” as a title meself. 😉

  2. Enonymous says:

That is cute and that coat she is wearing looks great on her.

  3. Kaiser says:

Cute. Deacon sounds like a totally normal little boy. And I really like Reese’s hair style these days.

  4. RAN says:

    Totally cute story 😛

  5. Tess says:

    She’s adorable—but IMHO that coat—not so much.

Too much stuff around the the ta-tas.
Perhaps Tim Gunn would weigh in.

How come no one is making a big deal of the fact that Vince and Reese are not doing any PR together. She is out there on her own. Same with Jen and Owen. I am not pointing fingers, but if this was happening with other celebs, I won’t say who, this story would be on every cover. Boy the double standard is alive and well.

  7. Obvious says:

big whoop. people don’t always do press together.

besides reese is adorable and vince not so much

  8. Call me Al says:

Reese is so fake. She is so elitist and not the “down to earth Tennessee girl” she claims to be. Both her parents are doctors and she went to an elite private girls high school. Everyone in Nashville hates her.

  9. Kristin says:

    I love Reese. :]

  10. gg says:

I’m in Nashville and nobody around here hates her.

Forget the rumply coat – she is seriously rocking that antique diamond necklace. Looks like about 9 or 10 carats.

  11. Ponytail says:

The Paris sewers are cool. They don’t smell anywhere as bad as you’d imagine and it’s a whole different side to the city – they even have street name plates down there, so you can follow the routes of certain drains. The other brill underground place is the catacombs – maybe not suitable for kids though.

  12. Emily says:

I’ve never visited the Paris sewers but my sister has. Apparently from what she said, it was kind of boring and not as exciting as she thought it would be. I would like to see for myself one day.

  13. Kristen says:

    So Call Me Al~

You took a poll in Tennessee right?

Speak for yourself – not the people who love her!

  14. Codzilla says:

I love Reese. She conducts herself with class (unlike so many of her contemporaries), and seems to have her priorities straight. A rare gem in Hollywood, for sure.
