Music videos are getting more and more surreal these days. There once was a time when a video was as simple as DeBarge driving around in a convertible singing and smiling at each other. Madonna pushed the envelope with burning crosses in the dark, and that was considered out there at the time. More recently Rhianna delved into bondage and strange blank-eyed zombie contact lenses for effect. Now, Pink has to go and take the music video where pop music hasn’t gone before.
In the new video to Pink’s latest song “Sober,” Pink plays most of the women in the strange, dirty, underground party scenes that fall somewhere between gothic and poker den. She interacts with herself in many ways, glances, phone calls, comforting, smiles and sex.
Talk about falling in love with yourself. Well, U.S. singer Pink seems to know all about that.
In her latest music video Sober the star gives narcissism a try as she makes love to herself.
The sultry scenes see the So What singer don fishnet tights and a black bra as she gets acquainted with a double of herself.The video was created using camera trickery and digital mastery in order to present a convincing interaction between the two Pinks.
Despite the title track, the singer hardly stays tee total during the video.
At times she is seen guzzling down alcohol and partying, and in one scene viewers will see Pink jostle with her clone’s bra straps.

There’s more than bra straps jostled with. Pink has some serious foreplay with herself before getting up and walking out without completing the act. I’m sure this is supposed to mean something really deep but I’m just not cool enough to get it, I suppose. It’s got to suck when it’s yourself that gets up and walks out on you before you get any satisfaction. Oh, and Pink goes for the all-black iris contacts for effect.
I do like Pink, I love her voice, but I think she should leave the gothic churches, dark clouds, black lace and white dresses to Amy Lee. The song is deep and dark, I get it, but the video really is just weird. It feels like it’s trying too hard to be Twilight, or, an Evanescence video.

I don’t read a lot into videos, but since your rough comments, I thought I’d watch the video all the way through. In the beginning she sings about hating to be alone. When being alone is something everyone needs to experience once in a while to get back to being ‘you’ Just my 2 cents

I can’t watch it right now, the kids are here, but this theory was done before with “Everyone’s a Winner” by Bootsauce in 1990. The singer is having sex with some curly haired woman. At the end the woman turns to reveal her face and it’s the singer. Always freaked me out

Britney generation pop tarts turning in their glittery pink tutus for leather corsets and whips? This whole post-apocalyptic hooker/dominatrix/off the K-Mart rack gothic charade’s gotten old a long time ago, and who hasn’t tried this already?
Britney Spears? Check.
Christina Aguilera? Check.
Rihanna? Check.
Avril Lavigne? Check.
Madonna? Check. Before her time, but check.
I’m so desensitized toward the failed “dark” persona that every single commercial video star diva has attempted to adopt. You’re not shocking. All you’re doing is further categorizing yourself by exploring and trying on different identities all your peers have before.
At least with Pink, though, you can say that she’s always been a little bit edgy, so it’s not as annoying.
I guess you can say that the frightening likeness between this music video and any Evanescence video is the blatant narcissm.

I think Pink is very talented and very attractive. She has a darling figure & face and a lovely smile! It saddens me to see her many tattoos: although she may love them, she’s too pretty for that much ink!

I don’t generally have high expectations for popstars, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by Pink.
