Hugh Jackman reveals the secrets to his buff body

We hear so much about the diets and work outs of female celebrities in Hollywood, but the man whose body I most admire has given up his secrets to that physique. And it sounds like really hard work.

Your body is incredible. What training do you do?
I started training intensively in the gym two years ago to get into the right shape for X-Men Origins. It meant my body got bigger and bigger during Australia, and [director] Baz Luhrmann said: ‘I’m not sure if we can cut our film together because you keep changing.’ I train for an hour and a half a day, five days a week – weights, treadmill, rowing, everything. Then I do what my trainer calls ‘a play session’ on the sixth, which previously would have killed me in itself.

What about diet and eating?
It’s all about eating. I get up at 4am and eat egg whites, then every three hours after that. I have a combination of protein or steamed vegetables and brown rice. Then after midday, no rice or carbohydrates. It’s just vegetables and meat or fish.

You must be incredibly disciplined.
I’m not going to live this way for the rest of my life. I do have treats, I love dark chocolate, beer and red wine. I love going out for dinner and do cheat sometimes.

It’s good to hear that Hugh really does suffer for that body, because if he tried to claim that it was the result of running around after his kids or a fast metabolism, then I would just have to roll my eyes. Do we ever believe it when a celebrity says that? They make it sound too easy.

Now, to talk my husband into adopting this regime…he has the beer part down!

The studio behind his new X-Men spin off Wolverine know that body is well worth publicizing – they’ve released promotional shots for the upcoming movie and in at least two of them make excellent use of a shirtless High. I’m not sure about the grimacing facial expressions, but I guess this is Hugh as Wolverine, not Hugh as the world’s sexiest man alive.

Oh, Hugh would have to be one of the world’s most gorgeous men at the moment!!!! Talk about us aussie’s producing hunky men!! And that shower/water scene in the movie Australia is awesome. Hugh you are a spunk!!!

    *I loves me some Aussie*

    *Breathless*

He gets up at 4am and eats egg whites?? I´m staying with my husband.

  5. bros says:

thats what i thought too, 4 am egg whites? gag.

but what a refreshingly honest interview about what it *actually* takes to look like that. can you imagine if every female star was able to honestly divulge what they eat, when, for how long they work out, and what their trainer makes them do? i would love it! im so sick of the “i dont even like exercise. I dont deprive myself. i breastfeed. i just eat sensibly. i do an hour of pilates 3 times a week and thats it.”

    so sick of that BS.

Bros, You took the words right out of my mouth!

Is it hot in here or is it just me?*faint*

  8. Rose says:

I love Hugh and he looks terrific, but it bothers me slightly* that if this was Madonna, everyone would be muttering about how selfish she is for spending that amount of time working out and won’t somebody please think of the children.

    * I said slightly.

rose, youre right of course. there is a double standard for men and women. which is why maybe its not socially acceptable for a woman to detail what it actually takes to look like they do in hollywood, because people would criticize them for their selfishness and narcissism, and so they are very nearly forced to say all the BS lines I mentioned in my above post. for men its totally fine, but women have an ‘obligation’ to keep this kind of work invisible, to efface it.

  10. KDRockstar says:

If he had said, “Oh, I just chase the kids around,” people would buy it, but I love that he was honest.

  11. Codzilla says:

More of the same. Yes, he’s gorgeous, but in the end, not all that interesting. Maybe if he got around to making a decent movie, I’d hop back on the bandwagon.

  12. Annie says:

He’s hot and a damn funny guy.

And I just wanted to make a comment on the whole rolling your eyes at someone who says they stay in shape by running after their kids and fast metabolism. (I happen to follow that same “regimen”, except mine is more of a fur kid)

For some people, that is exactly the case. And I for one am tired of people either rolling their eyes at me or worse, telling me “Yea, well…your metabolism’s gonna slow down and you’ll get fat.” and just, general meanness like that. Green is not a good color on anyone and I’m pretty tired of having to defend myself (of course, this isn’t me ranting specifically to you Helen, just that the comment triggered my anger at what’s been happening the past couple of weeks lol).

I think everyone should see the good qualities in a person, body and all, regardless of shape and size.
