Well, this is surprising. It seems that Kerry Washington had a quiet, undercover boyfriend this whole time and they were secretly married a little more than a week ago. What the what? Kerry had been dating a football player named Nnamdi Asomugha (photos at the end of the post) for about a year, and they filed for a marriage license in Idaho two weekends ago, and then they were quietly married in Hailey, Idaho. How… quiet!
Surprise — Kerry Washington is a married woman! The Scandal actress, 36, secretly tied the knot with San Francisco 49ers cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha late last month, Us Weekly can confirm.
Records show that Washington and Asomugha filed a marriage license on June 24 in Blaine County, Idaho, though a source tells Us that the two appear to have gotten married in the town of Hailey, Idaho, with her parents as witnessses. (E! News was first to confirm the marriage, after a story appeared on sports gossip site TerezOwens.)
“It has been recorded in the Blaine County clerk’s office that Nnamdi Asomugha and Kerry Washington have been married on the 24th of June in the town of Hailey, Idaho,” the clerk’s office told Us in a statement.
According to reports, the couple have been dating since the summer of 2012. Washington was previously engaged to actor David Moscow; they split in 2007 after several years together.
“Turning 30 was a time when I thought, ‘Wait a second. How much of my life really reflects who I am and who I want to be?'” the Vanity Fair cover girl told The New York Post after their breakup. “I’ve learned more about myself since leaving that relationship.”
“Coming out of an engagement, I don’t even try to guess what my life is going to look like in the future anymore,” she said at the time, noting that wedding planning was “hard” for her. “The important thing is to not be afraid of making decisions that are right for me. It’s my life. Not anybody else’s.”
Washington is currently on hiatus from filming her hit ABC series. Prior to leaving for vacation, she tweeted: “Ok. Logging off! See u in a few weeks!”
Getting married after a year of dating? Sure. I can see that. I wouldn’t advise it for most people, but I think Kerry is a bright woman and I’m sure she knows what she’s doing. Maybe it just felt right. Maybe everything just “clicked”. Or maybe it was a shotgun wedding? It’s a consideration, but I’m really not getting that vibe in general, are you?
Anyway, I found some older photos of Nnamdi, and he’s really cute. Like, he seems almost nerdy with those glasses. I know it’s a stereotype, but when I heard “football player” I thought he must be some dumb meathead. The glasses tell a different story – like, Kerry and Nnamdi spend weekends in bed, reading the New York Times and watching Tivo’d episodes of Frontline.
Us Weekly has a nice “Five Things You Didn’t Know About…” article about Nnamdi. He sounds like a really cool guy! I’m really happy for her.

I wasn’t expecting much when I read US Weekly’s 5 Things because they are usually just a bunch of fluff (ex: Rob Kardashian’s 25 things LOL), but he actually sounds like a cool guy! Gosh, I really like Kerry and now knowing how discreet she is in her personal life, it makes me admire her even more! See people?! being discreet doesn’t mean there is something “wrong” with you.
He comes from a very well educated family. Both his parents have doctorate degrees, one in engineering and one in pharmacy. Washington’s mother is a college professor teaching early childhood education and her dad is a real estate broker. Lots of brains on both sides.

He played for the Philadelphia Eagles for a couple of years and he was a complete bust for our team. I can’t say anything about his personal life, just that he did not play well when he was with the team. He was supposed to be some big free agent when they signed him and he never lived up to expectations. But he married well!

Unlike a lot of pro football players he’s got a college degree in corporate finance to fall back on if the team drops him.

Asomugha was once a great player (while at Oakland) but he signed a huge contract with Philly and was a total bust. They released him and San Fran picked him up. I don’t know if he is a decent guy or not but if I were an Eagles fan, I’d be pretty bitter about his play.

I just moved from the Philly area and I was gonna say the same thing. When I first heard Kerry and he got hitched, my first thought was “she’s marrying that bum???” LOL
Dude got signed to the eagles with all this fanfare and was supposed to be a shutdown cornerback, but every time I looked wide receivers were scoring on him left and right. Dude was a *disaster* in philly.
But then again, maybe this explains why he played so awfully in Philly if he was dating Kerry during that time, maybe he was just a tad distracted. Good deal for him getting signed by SF, at least he will be closer to LA and perhaps will be less distracted.

It has most definitely not been platonic. Anyone with eyes and a modicum of common sense could see there was something going on, and I submit she was just as twitterpated as he was/is. There’s plenty of evidence of her beaming at him, or gazing at him like he’s a piece of meat, or gushing about him on Twitter or in interviews. Trust it was mutual. And anyone who thinks it is definitively over with now that she’s with someone else must be very young or very naive. If she could be messing around with him all this time while she was supposedly being courted by her fiance, why would anything stop after she gets married? Tony has been married over 25 years and it hasn’t stopped him! Besides, this dude clearly has no issues with it or it would have stopped a long time ago.
