I’m sorry, but I still kind of love Kanye West. I know these days I’m supposed to be all “He’s awful, he’s an egomaniac, he’s crazy, he’s full of himself, he impregnated a famewhore!” And while all of that is true to varying degrees, I still like Kanye. I still find him funny, I still think he’s an interesting person, and I still enjoy reading and writing about him.
Anyway, with that caveat in place, you should really watch this video of Kanye’s freak-out on a paparazzo at LAX:
I’m sorry, but that made me laugh. I guess we’re supposed to be like “Oh, Kanye is so high and mighty, he doesn’t want peasants talking to him!” And that might be true, but isn’t it also true that many paparazzi are really annoying people? Isn’t this particular paparazzo really annoying? I’ll give the photographer some credit – he wasn’t saying anything nasty, and he really was just tossing out a compliment to Kanye, hoping that just the sheer fact of saying ANYTHING to Kanye is going to elicit some kind of freakout, and that’s exactly what happened. But what I love is that Kanye is all “Don’t talk to me, don’t talk to the people I’m with” and then he walks away and the pap IS STILL TALKING TO HIM. And Kanye goes back to hit him or whatever. It’s just a funny video.
TMZ is pushing the story like Kanye hates the first amendment of something, and that’s mostly because this annoying paparazzo is one of their people. And Kanye did grab this guy’s camera, but I don’t think he smashed it (although he has smashed other pap cameras in the past). “Sources” (Kris Jenner) also told TMZ that Kanye has been losing his temper with the paps more and more since he got together with Kim, because he feels like the paps are “crossing the line” and asking “inappropriate questions” and even “heckling” him.

Kanye never liked the paps even before Kim. I can’t really disagree with him. The paps have been out of control for the past 10 years. They used to be seen not heard. Now they are extremely mean and dangerous. I laughed when the pap said he was a reporter.

I watched this the other day and I couldn’t stop laughing. I literally play it back 3 times and it still makes me laugh. The thing about kanye is he is capable of insightful observation, sophisticated work but he is also capable of acting like a petulant spoiled child. He is the man who had the balls to call out bush on katrina and the only rapper who supported gay rights before it became fashionable ( forget macklemore) kanye did that thing 10 years ago when the popular opinion was different and the maschimo of 50 cent and eminen was the norm in the hip hop community. But he is also the man who starts a family with the biggest reality star on the planet and rather bizarrely claims he wants to be private. I admire his musical talent but his personality is such a contradiction.

I think when you willingly become a part of a family that are known for having the paps on speed dial you need to cool your ugly jets. All this man-child had to do was say “thanks” and move on. If you don’t want to answer questions then you simply shut your mouth and move on. But not this jerk he has to explode and make a bigger scene! So I give him no sympathy and there is certainly no excuse for his vile and immature behavior. A pap’s job would be taking pics, unobtrusively, like any other professional photographer manages to do.
Their job is not to heckle people (e.g. Suri Cruise the other day), even if one may think those people deserve it, c.f. The Biebs, Kanye. Those people are the reason paps earn money.
In some situations the paps’ behavior is beyond respectful, especially when they start tearing at people’s clothes, opening car doors, swearing at their prey. These things happen more often than one might think.
Exactly. I also think that just because the pap was giving him a compliment…well, that doesn’t mean crap. The paps will say anything, hateful or nice, just to get a reaction. If Kanye had acknowledged the compliment, the pap would have just then tried to get even more out of him, it’s never enough for them. They should really just be quiet and take the damn pics. It has to be annoying to not only have a camera in your face but then to also have someone incessantly yapping at you when all you want to do is get through the airport.
