I don’t think we’ve covered Jake Gyllenhaal’s new relationship at all. Maybe we’ve included it in some links here and there, but whenever I came upon any news of Jake and his new girlfriend Alyssa Miller, I always just rolled my eyes and thought, “Sure, Jake. No one’s buying.” Jake and Alyssa were first rumored to be dating a little more than a month ago. She’s a model. She’s been in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition and she’s got some high-profile modeling gigs, but nothing A-list. Maybe Jake can help with that…?
So, after a month, Jake and Alyssa decided to do a genuine “roll-out” for their couple status. These are new photos of Jake, Alyssa and Jake’s mom Naomi Foner out and about in Tribeca yesterday. That’s Alyssa’s dog! You know what’s weird? This “girlfriend roll-out” is SO MUCH better than whatever Henry Cavill was trying to do with Kaley Cuoco. I guess Jake had to learn from experience – he got burned by the whole PR clusterwhoops with Taylor Swift. Remember that? That was like the original Kaley Cuoco-Henry Cavill situation. The roll-out was too fast, and Swifty was much too young and the whole thing was a disaster.
Let’s see… what else? Alyssa is 24 years old. Jake is 32. Not a huge age difference. She’s actually the second model Jake has “dated” so far this year – earlier this year he was seen out and about with Emily DiDonato. Is Jake trying to be like Leonardo? Does Jake only do leggy models now? Are the model-girlfriends expected to make conversation with Jake’s mom? Because that’s how Leo rolls too. And that’s how Bradley Cooper rolls. All of those men have close relationships with their mothers, and all of those men seem to put their moms ahead of any romantic relationship, often to the detriment of their romantic lives. Is Jake part of that club? We should give it a name… The Motherboy Club.

The saddest thing is that the gay rumors didn’t really start until Brokeback. I guess some have trouble separating fact from fiction.

I don’t have any problem separating fact fron fiction. My opinion has nothing to do with brokeback mountain. Jake has been outed more than once, plus the persons he dated are known for being “beards”. Taylor Swift is one of them.

I don’t get gay vibes from any of Hollywood’s leading men, but I suspect half of them are gay. All of my male theatre pals from high school (some that I dated!) are now out of the closet. It’s naive to think all A-list male actors are straight. You can’t go on vibes when you are talking about actors. There is an entire machine that keeps gay A-list actors in the closet. If Jake was not seen as heterosexual, he’d have never gotten his roles in Prince of Persia, Love and Other Drugs or many of his other big movies.

Nico, I was answering two different questions.
Before forming an opinion I consider different things and I tend to believe more the “news” that comes from a gay milieu (maybe it’s because my Brother is gay) than from a general gossip site and so on.

I dont think the gay rumor stems from Brokeback. I mean pretty much every “serious” actor has played gay at some point. And while there are initial murmurs, no one has had those rumors run as long and as loud as this dude. As someone else points out in this thread, Perez may be douche but he has a very solid record of getting it right. Even dudes who initially went on a denial offensive like that Max Kyle who went on Howard Stern to affirm his hetero status. Then last month (5years after Perez called it) the guy announces that he is gay and engaged.
I also think that its utterly ridiculous for anybody to claim that they can tell if a guy is gay or straight from watching his interviews. Its an argument built on stereotypes. So silly!
Having said that, I saw a youtube clip of him in a club in Russia dancing like a mega dork and hitting on random girls. I guess his PR team could have set it up but then the tape would have been better distributed, if it was fake.

I have known a guy that was supposed to be gay according to many “blind items” rumors, etc. He was not gay. There really is no way to banish gay rumors short of a hetero sex tape. Most of these rumors are not true, they are just nearly impossible to snuff out without degrading and exposing yourself.
I think that only when WE as gossip consumers stop trying to root out the secret LBGT stars, will there be enough breathing room for those that are to come out.
When we “hunt” for this kind of information, we are putting targets on the backs of those that it does apply to.

In the case of Palermo and Jackman, it is incredibly common for assitants to live with/in guest house of a star. Many people use their living arrangement as “proof” of a sexual relationship, but that type of situation is sooooooooooooooooooooooooo common I had to type a ton of Os. I just can’t stress how common it is for an assistant to live in house.

People can have many reasons to be private:

2- people who were deeply hurt in past relationships
3- the way you were raised

Well, right on schedule, he has a movie coming out. No idea if he’s gay or straight but he is definitely over-managed on the PR side as far as relationships go.
I felt a but bad for him when they were trying to turn him into a STAR with the action movies/franchises. He’s not cut out for it. He’s strong in supporting roles and character roles, but he doesn’t have that it factor you need to center those big movies. That’s not necessarily a bad thing…if he and his team now know that.

Jakey’s roll-out of this relationship with Alyssa is highly strategic. His PR knows what they’re doing. I don’t know if Alyssa knows what she’s doing, though.
