Scientology plans to target Leah Remini with attack website

Yesterday we heard that Kirstie Alley was circling the old rickety wagons with her Scientology buddies. Supposedly Kirstie put a call out to the Scientology Celebrity Centre to do something about Leah Remini’s defection, and it’s pretty easy to predict what it will be. One of Scientology’s very transparent tactics is that of “fair game,” in which they openly attack their detractors. The practice has been around since the cult was founded, and it’s even more out of date than ever in the age of the Internet.

Radar figured out that Scientology hacks are going to do what they always do – launch a very stupid website treating Leah like a criminal, just like they’ve done with just about every other high-profile person who’s left the cult. For more examples of this idiotic practice see the Scientology-run website WhoisPaulHaggis, against Academy Award Winning director Paul Haggis. Also see WhoisJasonBeghe, another Scientology website against character actor Jason Beghe, who spoke out against the abuses in the cult.

The Scientology “WhoIs” websites are so lame and predictable that they seem like parodies of attack sites. They dig up arrest records where possible and feature sensationalized, poorly written versions of the person’s criminal records. Where no arrest records are found, they paint the defector as a liar, child abuser or worse. They sites are written in Scientology-speak and are somewhat incomprehensible. I went through the Village Voice’s list of the top 25 people who threaten Scientology and there were those “WhoIs” websites for almost every former Scientologist on the list who had publicly denounced the cult.

Some Other Scientology-Run websites (not all of them)
WhoisMartyRathbun
WhoisMikeRinder
WhoisMarkHeadley
WhoisAmyScobee
WhoisTomDeVocht
WhoisJeffHawkins
WhoisSteveHall

The sites all look the same with unflattering photos and the same header, they’re all written in that same kind of circular fifth grade Scientology-speak, and they’re all very obviously smear sites.

So Scientology is about to do the same to Leah Remini. Radar has found “someone” has registered the domain “WhoisLeahRemini.” How is that working for you, Scientology?

Meanwhile Radar has another story in which some of the targets of those “Whois” websites are urging other public figures to also leave Scientology. Filmmaker Mark Bunker told Radar that Leah’s defection might help others escape the abuses of the cult. “For years, former members had kept silent out of fear of retribution. Lately, many have been willing to speak up and that courageousness is important because it gives others the strength to speak out and either seek changes or walk away from the abuses.”

I want to know why Scientology is still a tax-exempt organization in America when there are so many egregious examples of their human rights abuses. They can only play the system for so long.

There is probably a lot of pent-up rage since they couldn’t do all of this to Katie Holmes.

    • BLA says:

They did try though, didn’t they? I remember some reports about strange vehicles waiting by her apartment and her old handlers desperately reaching out to her. But you are completely right – she cut her ties, sewed up all loose ends, and then got away from that cult.

      • Hannah says:

They did. And I still worry they will wait for their move. It is easy to forget that at first Nicole got away with kids and reputation in tact and then…

    • Meaghan says:

And Lisa-Marie Presley too, I was shocked nothing more came of that. I have to say, I now officially love Leah and she is one of my new favorite celebs!!

I bet the reason why they didn’t go after Katie Holmes was because of all the secrets she could let out, as well as the lawyers in her family. She has to have some NASTY dirt for her to have gotten full custody and escaped unharmed from Scientology. Love her too now.

  2. janie says:

Not a cult? If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, looks like a duck…. Leah’ daughter is so cute!

    • Sarah says:

Can you imagine the Lutherans doing this? One of their members decides to stop going to church, so they hold a planning meeting to reassure concerned members? And then set up a disparaging website about the person who left? Bizarre.

  3. DanaG says:

I’m sure Leah is prepared for all this. Not sure what they will try to pull up about her but everyone knows their pathetic tactics and games. People are leaving and speaking out about them. And why are they still tax exempt? They need to get pulled into line it is already a joke what they have been able to get away with.

  4. JL says:

Kristie Alley, the has been is circling the wagons. COS is launching an attack, I’m pretty sure Leah Remini knows details the rest of us don’t and realizes her family is so much better off out of that cult that she just smiles and thinks “Bring it Bitches”

  5. Eva says:

Lets start a website called ‘who-is-cos’

    • akivasha says:

      +1
      These people are freaky!

    • erika says:

apparently ‘cos’ is a ‘church’ cough cough…or ‘religion’ that burns witches at the stake for leaving them…

and they (claim) to be a ‘religion’ …

can u imagine if catholic church did this? jewish faith did this?

and i’m not a lawyer but isn’t this defamation? isn’t this illegal?

  6. Tapioca says:

Why is any religion tax exempt? Do non-atheists not use public services or something?

Those websites are awesome, in the most juvenile and transparent way possible – like Paul Haggis’ defection is so insignificant to them that they have to try and smear his name anyway?! LOLz.

It would almost be worth joining the CO$, just to leave and get my own “WhoIsTapioca?” site!

    • MoxyLady007 says:

They only do the websites for the famous people that leave.

The non famous people are stalked and harassed and many die under mysterious circumstances.

    • Nerd Alert says:

I agree, no religion OR cult should be tax exempt. I have no idea why they have tax exemptions for them. The gov’t could use that money, and many religions make more money than large businesses.

I looked at two of the whois websites. Hilarious! Whois writing that crap? Probably one of their child laborers. Aw, now I’m sad again.

      • Lauren says:

Because churches give crap loads of money to their communities and charities and missions in other countries. You know, they are doing the job that the states and federal government should be doing!

      • Nerd Alert says:

Right, so they can indoctrinate poorer, less educated people who are in no position to turn down a handout. Sorry, but your charity doesn’t give things away. There’s a price.

    • Thiajoka says:

I don’t understand it either. The only way I could possibly justify it in my own mind is if a particular church engaged in a high percentage of straight-out charity–not dogma-related charity, but actual charity.

      • Lauren says:

That’s right. Besides paying expenses, all of my church’s incoming receipts go straight to those in need in my community; charities; and, missions in other countries.

      • Nerd Alert says:

Missions. Meant to indoctrinate and convert people. People who don’t know any better when someone tells them they will go to hell if they don’t believe as they do and practice as they do.

So that’s the price of your charity, and as mentioned, it is your dogma. Missions are not straight-out charity, in case you missed the last line above your reply.

    • Emily C. says:

Why is any religion tax exempt?

I agree, they should not be tax exempt. It’s ludicrous that groups are tax exempt purely for pushing beliefs in the supernatural, with no regard to what they actually do in the world. It privileges religious groups over secular groups, and that is not okay.

      • Lauren says:

Credit unions do not pay income taxes to state or federal governments. The premise behind this is that credit unions are supposed to remain relatively small and serve members in a very limited area such as in communities but the credit unions and their lobbyists have bastardized and stretched the restrictions to the point that quite a few of them operate like large regional commercial banks and like I said – none of their income is taxed by state or federal governments! Now this is rip off!

    • Decloo says:

YES!!!! Why indeed? We atheists need a church of our own so we can start getting rich!

      • Meaghan says:

I agree! The church of ourselves. And then we can get tax exemption status when I’m in prayer, and by prayer I mean shopping. My meditation is finding a new perfect pair of shoes.

      • chaser says:

I think you will find that’s exactly how COS started in the first place.

      • Nerd Alert says:

Actually, if you’re the angry, militant type of atheist who hates organized religion and doesn’t respect those within it, you can become a Satanist! I actually learned that yesterday.

Just a joke, I’m an atheist too. But I can’t be a Satanist because I respect people, even if I don’t respect their beliefs.

  7. BLA says:

I’m surprised they haven’t bought “WhoIsLisaMcPherson” just to keep us SP’s from nabbing it.

  8. Launicaangelina says:

Who is Leah Remini? A bad ass, that’s who.

  9. Dawn says:

Hopefully the more the CO$ attacks Leah the more the public will support her. And if they get real dirty hopefully the Federal government will begin to investigate this cult as they should have been all along. Team Leah.

  10. Erinn says:

Haha, well on the slightly brightside, it’s registered through GoDaddy, and not the company I work for. So at least I’m not connected to Scientology by association. They registered it through a company that registers through GoDaddy, which is dumb, because they could have directly registered through them.

    http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/results.jsp?domain=WhoIsLeahRemini.com

They registered it on July 11th.

  11. Aud says:

The Church of Scientology can publish all the hate sites they want. Most sane people perceive them- justifiably- as a cult.
It’s high time that governments altered their legislation to update the meaning of religion, so cults such as Scientology don’t get tax breaks.

  12. GreenieWeenie says:

I have a feeling she won’t take it lying down.

  13. Jenna says:

What honestly surprises me is, considering how long she was involved in the group (raised in it I thought) why isn’t/wouldn’t her first step be, as she begins to sever ties – buying those domains in the most popular permutations the group uses? She has to know they work the smear campaign angle, I’d buy a dozen of the suckers and put up my own REAL info. How does anyone who leaves the group get blindsided by the tactics used? I mean, in the beginning, yeah. But now?

  14. lisa says:

do non co$ take the “whois” sites seriously ?

i would think w most people that being hated by co$ is a good thing

  15. RocketMerry says:

Team Leah!! Nobody cares anyway about what a crazy cult has to invent to attack an escapee.
What I am curious about is, does the co$ (CULT of $cientology, mind you) actually believe they are convincing anyone with the WhoIs websites? They have to be aware that this practice barely even works as internal reinforcement, right? Idiots.

  16. MBP says:

Question: on another CoS thread it was mentioned that they lock people up / use forced labour etc. How is this not, y’know, illegal and therefore prosecuted?

    • Jenna says:

The person being held has to A) be found. B) agree it’s an unlawful restriction (As in “HELP HELP I”M STUCK IN A CAGE!”) and C) they use guilt, fear – for themselves, their family, their jobs, their lives to get them to argue they are just fine and happy with their situation. You get a 5 year old kid raised in it, make them sign a ‘million year’ contract, and basically beat/starve/and mindfrell them on a continual basis – you get folks who don’t know any other way. And they will argue with you about if they want to be there or not. Think of it less like a group holding someone hostage and more like an abused spouse just beaten down over the years. You can look at that person and say “Why didn’t you leave? Why stay?” and the answers you get are in line with the cult members.

      • Sisi says:

They also have to be considered missing. Isn’t that how it is with miscavige’s wife? They say she isn’t missing, so she isn’t a missing person. That’s the problem when your entire community is ‘in’, you are not missing to them you are exactly where you should be, even if that is locked up on a slave ship or whatever.

  17. SamiHami says:

I have never like Remini because of her ties to Co$. Now that she’s broken free of them, I have to say I admire her courage. It had to be terribly difficult to leave after so many years of involvement with them. It cannot have been an easy decision to make. Good for her.

  18. Paloma says:

    Boycott Kirstie’s new show!

Regarding Katie Holmes; I think Tom told them to leave her alone. I think, though, Tom still has plans for Suri. He will try to influence her as she grows up.

    • Apsutter says:

I don’t think they left Katie alone because of Tom. Even though he is their golden boy he still has to defer to Miscavige and has to follow the Scieno tenets. Just look how he iced out Nicole. I think the reason they left Katie alone is because how freaking public it was. Everyone knew the situation and we were all watching and them to make sure nothing happened to her and Suri. Xenu’s back was against the wall in that situation and I can only imagine how much that pissed them off.

      • Tammy says:

I believe Katie has something on both Tom Cruise and David Miscivage and they cannot locate where or what it is. A former Scientologist was leaking stories at the time of their divorce that if Tom did not give her custody of Suri, she would instruct that it be leaked. And you have to remember her father, he helped her plan her escape.

  19. Sisi says:

Leah doesn’t even have to say anything. The Co$ make themselves look like twats already. Excellent marketing ploy.

  20. Nan209 says:

Apparently Scientology is also incredibly stupid.

The response to Leah leaving is to pretend nothing is wrong and do business as usual….take a page from the Catholic church even with all it has done over 2000 years it’s still here and still controlling a swath of people all over the globe.

  21. Kate says:

The CoS hasn’t a leg to stand on anymore. They are nothing more than a huge joke. I’m so looking forward to this organization crumbling to the ground, and I’m interested in how it’s celebrity members will react.

As far as Kirstie Alley is concerned, ironically her whole over-involvment is reminding me of the movie, “Drop Dead Gorgeous”. Scientology is going to go up in flames, and Kirstie Alley is going to be the only one left, running around in circles, flapping her arms, screaming, “the swan ate my baby!” while everyone else just sort of side eyes and saunters away into the shadows.

  22. Kiddo says:

Okay, once more we have a group of people who are ignorant about the “Streisand Effect”.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streisand_effect

By ganging up and setting twitter ablaze, they may be intimidating Leah, to an extent, but they are calling a lot of attention to the very tactics that Leah and others have said that they employ.

If they truly believe in freedom of religion, as Kirstie always spouts when criticism arises of COS, why not just wish Leah well, and offer that she has the right to believe or not believe in anything that she chooses?

They may be adept at bullying internally, but they are dumb asses as far as public relations to the rest of the world of outsiders.

  23. Notthatone says:

    CB!!
Please note that these are Tony Ortega’s scoops, NOT Radar Online’s.
it’s fantastic that Radar keeps on top of the $cio stories lately but let’s not overlook the guy who has been pursuing this cult for years.
Check his blog The Underground Bunker to confirm he broke the story of the registration of the WhoisLeahRemini domain last week.
    Many thanks!

  24. Looking through the various “WhoIs” pages made my blood run cold. So unsettling and disturbing.

    • Kiddo says:

Now that I know the “Who Is” sites belong to them, I’m not going to give them a hit.

    • Nance says:

I actually found them funny and try to think what the Travolta, Cruise ones would look like.

  25. GiGi says:

Oooh… looks like COS is already “disappearing” her – having members erase her from their websites & everything. Stay strong, Leah!

    http://tonyortega.org/2013/07/16/scientology-celebrities-told-leah-remini-is-not-in-good-standing-are-ordered-to-disconnect/#more-8458

    • Nance says:

Haha, actually this is also good for her! 🙂 I would not like having my name on their websites “as friend” either.

  26. truthful says:

yesterday I was reading about them etc and I happened on a site where a young gay man had been born into it and he was trying to move away–he had been working at “Sea org” all of his life (he is in his 20’s) and had never built relationships w/his dying grandmother, aunts or uncles.

his parents treated him like crap since he wanted out and was gay. He has no contact w/his parents and he felt like a failure for wasting all of those yrs w/COS.

he is trying to get away from them, I think they may be harrassing him–he has a “fundme type of page w/pics and stories for proof..I was in tears reading his story.

it was sooo sad, he also said COS frowns upon education, they reamed him about saying he wanted to go to college in his teens.

He said something about his father putting his name on the son’s car and he said his dad told him he was going to claim it stolen if he left, just all around horrible.

I hope Leah exposes them more!

    CREEPS!

    • SusieQ2 says:

Derek is one of the commenters at the Underground Bunker and is a gentle soul who has been through hell because of the cult.

And sadly, he is only one of many with similar heartbreaking stories.

And he has always been supportive of Leah Remini. He has said that she was very good to him in the past.

      • TrustMeOnThis says:

Yeah, I twigged this as being about Derek too. He is such a sweet guy who deserved none of that BS.

Even sadder – it could be so many folks. For every one who speaks out there are many more who are silent.

Beyond Belief, by Jenna Miscavige Hill is an amazing read for anyone curious about what it is like to grow up in scientology.

      • truthful says:

I busted out crying when I read his story and looked at his pics.

I am going to send him a gift card for small things he may need to move.

        he seems so sweet

  27. Nance says:

Wow, I never seen these websites before, I can totally imagine the John Travolta one, with bald unflattering pix or pictures from Hairspay and the infamous one which he kisses another dude, I can see the titles, totally!!

I don’t know who Leah Remini is, but I hope whatever what the cult will do that she won’t care, glad her child will be out of this thing. Best move ever in her life.

  28. Nance says:

These kind of “attacks” just make them look like more like jerks. Go on.

  29. SusieQ2 says:

This is only the beginning of the ‘church’ attack on Leah.

If they don’t succeed in reeling her and her family back in, (and I hope to God she and her family stay strong) she’ll be declared a suppressive person.

Then the smear machine will kick in full force; all their co$ friends, family, associates will be ‘sec checked’ until dirt is found or manufactured; press media attacks; then the OSA harassment team intimidation tactics will begin; the cult will hire private detectives to follow and scare her family while searching for more dirt on them.

And remember, this is ‘church’ policy, as written by L Ron Hubbard. Anyone who says disconnection doesn’t exist in CO$ is lying.

  30. BringItOn says:

What a horrible cult/group Scientology is. Wanting to harass someone for leaving ? People die under mysterious circumstances if they leave this disgusting cult? Well, this is war you aliens!!!

What is Brodie Man–Jason Lee going to run after Leah Remini with his skateboard? LMAO!!!

  31. Fue McCormick says:

OT – From this site (back in 2010): “Carmen (ex of Jason Lee) and Jason met Tom Cruise when he was still with Nicole Kidman: “Jason and I were talking to Tom, and we told him that we went to the CoS center in LA. He said brightly, ‘Oh yeah? Well, me and Nicole are Scientologists too! Right, Nic?’ But she turned and gave Tom the most evil look. She stared at him for about 10 seconds, and Tom looked at her like he was throwing daggers with his eyes. I interpreted her look to mean, ‘I am not a Scientologist, and I will not be a Scientologist.’ She was clearly mad at Tom for saying she was. And the next thing you know, they’re getting a divorce!”
Interesting. So when Tom Cruise said about Nicole Kidman something to the effect of “she knows what happened” I wonder if this exchange is the straw that broke the camels back in the Tom/Nicole marriage/divorce?

  32. skuddles says:

Disgusting cult! Good for Leah for breaking free, stay strong girl!! I bet Katie just found herself a new BFF 😀

  33. BringItOn says:

    @Fue McCormick:

Didn’t Jason Lee abuse his wife Carmen b/c she was not comfortable with the Sci Cult anymore? Then he rather quickly divorced Carmen right after she said something against the church?

  34. jlw says:

looks like pages for anyone who is currently a scientologist member has a registered Go Daddy page as well… just in case, maybe?

    http://whoiskirstiealley.com/?nr=0

    • Nance says:

Creepy, I don’t know if there are laws for this.

    • TrustMeOnThis says:

That’s a domain parker. Someone at GoDaddy saw the scilons registering these and decided to jump on it in the hopes of selling the domain to someone who actually wants it. It’s a scummy practice, but probably not illegal.

I’d think that the subjects of the smear sites might be able to get them taken down, but probably do not want to draw further attention to those sites.

  35. 88Modesty88 says:

Remember when John Travolta’s carefully crafted crow’s nest was about to come crashing down? Every massage therapist and his brother were coming forward with stories about his wandering hands.
And then it all went away.
What if that was just a taste of what $cientology has on him and it was orchestrated to keep him toeing the line after Jett’s death?
And then, when he returned to the fold and Kelly’s coattails, the accusers evaporated.

  36. BringItOn says:

and Jason Lee’s abuse to his first wife was out there and just went away like it never happened. Covered up. I bet Jason Lee is a kiss butt to David Macavige. Jason smooches up like the “Class Pet” or in his case “Class Alien”.

  37. homegrrl says:

I would vote to pay money via taxes to protect people leaving cults like this. Really not good. I hope this comes to pass, so very sad.

I don’t judge children who grow up unbeknownst, but I also don’t judge the lost souls and seekers that get sucked into this as adults. Mind control is as powerful as locks and gates. Again, I hope this comes to pass!

  38. CF98 says:

In regards to Katie I also think she doesn’t have anything major to hide I mean Nicole let those kids go easily.. Tom clearly had something on her. And Nicole was a bigger star than Katie yet he let Katie have everything she wanted.

  39. Ella says:

I think David Miscavige has a misplaced faith in the gullibility of the general public. Who’s going to believe anything he and his $cientology goons say about Leah Remini? Who’s going to CARE?

  40. Anne De Vries says:

You’d almost hope so – she might be well-known enough… Potentially a lot of people who now think it’s just a kooky religion could find out how vicious and vile the cult really is

  41. Karen de la Carriere says:

Leah Remini was quoted in Huffington Post and New York Post as having had years of confessionals. She had the thought reform mindcontrol action called “Truth Rundown” being enforced on the hapless target.
I was in the *Church* for decades. I know of what I speak
I explain the Truth Rundown here ~~.
Here’s a short pithy video on what Leah endured ~~
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9mSyrNUbfc

  42. Megan says:

Everyone who has ever been wronged by that so called waste of space religion start up a website called the fantasy of scientology : mean well or just want money
