Nicole Kidman in Narciso Rodriguez at the HFPA luncheon: lovely or tragic?

Here are some photos from yesterday’s Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s 2013 Installation Luncheon. At first I was like, “Oh, these are the people who desperately want a Golden Globe nomination this year.” But I think that’s too simplistic. Obviously, people like Olivia Wilde and Liam Hemsworth have to know that they’re not turning in award-worthy work, right? But they still showed up. Maybe this event is more like “Remember our names, we’ll eventually get a Globe nomination, eventually!”

That being said, Nicole Kidman definitely wants a Globe nomination this year. Nicole was definitely the biggest name at the event, probably because she wants a real awards-season push for Grace of Monaco, which comes out later this year. She plays Grace Kelly when Grace was in her 30s. Yeah. Thus, Botox. A crazy amount of Botox. Nicole wore green Narciso Rodriguez – pretty color, but I’m not crazy about the cut.

Did Colin Farrell get hairplugs or does his hair just look funky? Other than that, he looks handsome.

Olivia Wilde in Clover Canyon. The dress is interesting, but I think Olivia’s styling is too minimalist. She needs lipstick and maybe some mascara.

Diane Kruger in Carven. I thought it was Burberry! Which means that I automatically love it.

Liam Hemsworth, looking squinty and handsome.

Amber Heard in Osman. This dress is like a deconstructed smock, only it’s not even as flattering as a smock would have been. Awful.

Dermot Mulroney needs to rethink his hair.

Demian Bichir is normally quite attractive, but not so much in this photo.

Looks like L’Wren Scott. Nice color.

    • Anna says:

But the face is frightening. Why, Nicole, WHY?

      • bns says:

        It’s tragic.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I wish she would just age gracefully. She was so pretty. All these fillers and Botox don’t work. They don’t make you look younger, just desperate.

      • The Wizz says:

        She’s looking so old!

      • Anoni Mus says:

Figure and dress: Lovely. Face: tragic!

      • emmie_a says:

It almost seems like she’s being animated to show us that her face does in fact move… but it doesn’t move like a natural face would move.

      • lisa says:

it does look especially tweaked to me here

sad because she was really pretty and didnt need all that

      • claire says:

Nicole’s face is a freakshow. Her natural face would have likely aged soooo much more gracefully. Now she’s screwed forever. You can’t fix what she’s done to it or turn back the damage.

    • Marjalane says:

That hair and all the face fillers have given Nicole Kidman a 2nd string “Real Housewives” look. An aging Real Housewives look.

    • Rigaou says:

Egads, that smile looks like a painful grimace.

      • Polk8dot says:

Also, there is something new and weird happening with her nose. It is especially visible in the 3rd and 4th pics.
She looks like there definitely was some tweaking or a full nose job (again; and thus again, WHY?).
I hate to say it, but I’m getting suspicious that she’s had a lifetime of coke snorting, and the nose started collapsing, hence the re-do.
Whatever the reason, it looks awful now and really stands out, which is telling given the state of the whole rest of her face.

  2. Fatty Cakes says:

    Diane Kruger wins.

  3. RocketMerry says:

I LOVE Diane Kruger’s dress! Amazing.

  4. YummyMummy says:

I have never seen Nicole look this bad. Yikes! She was so beautiful. The close ups are scary!

    • Chinoiserie says:

When she was at Cannes earlier this year I her face looked so much better. Or was I imagining it? I have not seen her in anything for years so I wonder how she manages still to act with that much Botox. I remember that even years ago her facial expressions seemed forced.

      • Sumodo1 says:

Obviously, all this facial work is recent, and will settle down just in time for awards season. Don’t forget, there are Botox shortages at certain times of the year! Also, Nicole is no stranger to the seasonal routine: inject, lift, implant, suction, let it relax, and voila!

    • doofus says:

I agree. the scary protruding upper lip when she smiles always freaks me out, but her cheeks now look like bulging implants and her nose keeps getting more and more whittled away.

she was so gorgeous when she first came on the scene with her red curls and “soft” face and now she looks like a sharp-angle-faced witch.

    • Jag says:

She’s smiling so hard in that first picture to try to get her Botoxed face to move that her neck veins are just scary. She looked so much better earlier in the year. I do like the color of the dress.

  5. Miss RiotBelle. says:

The world of cinematography needs to get rid of the Hemsworth brothers. Some people may have disagreements on wether they’re hot,but we all agree about their awful, monotone acting.

    • Lucrezia says:

Really? He’s totally not my type, so I’m not saying this because I think he’s hot, but the first 5 minutes of Star Trek 2009 bought me to tears. CHems was amazing in it. (Admittedly, I’m a total sucker for captain-goes-down-with-the-ship style heroic sacrifices … they get me every time. Add in the newborn and the “goodbye” conversation with the wife and I was doomed.) Thor didn’t do much for me, but the character itself is bland – I don’t blame Chris for that.

      I don’t think I’ve seen Liam in anything, so I can’t comment.

      • Carolyn says:

Chris is hot. He used to be on the Foxtel ad here in Aus and everytime it came on my daughter would yell “mum your man’s on tv”. When he winked at the end of the ad I used to smile at him 🙂 Yes I thought he was great in Star Trek too.

Oh Nicole. I miss her younger, red-haired, non-Botoxed days. From the neck down she looks great.

Diane Kruger is great in “The Bridge”.

    • Pandy says:

I have to be honest – haven’t seen them in anything – but in pics, they look pretty one dimensional …

  6. Lucrezia says:

Ack, Nic’s make-up is terrible! Far too much blush. I like the dress, but I’m unsure about the neckline. Maybe if it were a fraction higher, or a fraction lower? Currently it seems neither here nor there.

Olivia’s dress is absolutely amazing, but I wonder if it’d be too busy in real-life? If she was moving around all you’d get would be a blur, and the detail is what makes it stunning.

  7. Sally23 says:

Is that neck-lift tape you can see in photo 2 on Nicole?!

    • Lauren says:

Her neck looks discolored. Greenish hue. The fourth pic is so sad. My mom is 70, and her face looks better than this plastic disfigurement. Isn’t Nicole’s mom a psychoanalyst? Nic needs an intervention.

  8. Sisi says:

    still cannot recognize Amber Heard

  9. lucy2 says:

Diane looks great, I love her dress.
I like Nicole’s dress too, but there is some bad botox and/or makeup going on there. I don’t understand why she does that to herself, she’s so pretty.

  10. SS says:

Didn´t she say she quit botox? Apparently not she looks horrible

  11. Barrett says:

Is that Elvis or Dermott Mulroony?

  12. EduBois says:

LOVE Amber Heard’s expression in the photo! She’s making the face I make whenever I see a picture of her lately – OR read her ridiculous interviews…

  13. Dhavynia says:

OMG Dermot looks like David Copperfield!

    • roxy750 says:

LOL! HAHAHAHA, as I was scrolling down looking at captions and then the pictures the one of Dermot and “he needs to rethink his hair” was all it said made me day! HAHHA, oh, it sucks getting older.

  14. JudyK says:

Hate the way Nicole Kidman dresses.

  15. Jacqueline says:

    Mulroney looks like Johnny Cash

  16. emmie_a says:

I rolled my eyes as soon as I saw Olivia Wilde. Her and Jason should have never talked about their relationship because now I cannot stand either of them.

  17. Kaligula says:

I have a major girl crush on Nicole, just think she looks more gorgeous than ever lately. I can even forgive the botoxiness. Somehow it suits her or doesn’t faze me much. I just don’t focus on those shots. The good pics outweigh them IMO and I think she looks statuesque and stunning in this NR dress.

  18. JL says:

OMG she’s crossed the line where botox and fillers actually make you look OLDER!
After a while you get that signature look and it’s “there’s that old jacked up lady face again”

  19. Anne says:

Poor Nicole. Her vanity has taken over her soul and now she seems like a sad, hollow ‘has-been’ desperately grasping for continued adulation.

  20. Kari says:

Lol… The commentary under these photos gave me all the life I needed to get through my work day! I am forever indebted.

  21. It'sJustBlanche says:

I little bit of Botox and fillers can help. A lot just looks scary. I have juvederm in this little lines you get on the side of your face. Big improvement but subtle, just one syringe and never anyplace but there or you look puffy. I don’t like Botox but I’ve seen that done well too.

These people have so much money they’re just going crazy.

    • Pandy says:

Agree. I have botox on my forehead and sides of eyes for crows feet. Haven’t done filler but if/when i do, it’s only for the marionettes. I think it looks weird in cheeks and chin. I don’t mind a little ageing but love the effect of a smooth forehead. Especially as I have curly hair and can’t wear bangs!

  22. MissNostalgia says:

Yeah!!!! Dermot Mulroney…love the heck out of him (needs a better hair cut though). Dayummm, Nicole Kidman’s face! Just, dayum!

  23. j.eyre says:

Oh my gosh – I love Nicole’s dress so much I can’t even see her face. I love the cut, the fit and the color.

I kind of like Olivia’s dress too, but I could not pull that pattern off.

  24. Sumodo1 says:

At least Nicole has the hair breakage situation under control.

  25. Kosmos says:

Okay, I’m not THAT familiar with Botoxy stuff and what it’s effects are, but if Nicole’s cheeks look eerily puffy and bloated in the smiling pic, and this is due to Botox injections, GAG….I suppose when not smiling, the face just looks plumped and there is no sagging, right? Hmmm, I can just say that the smiling pic is horrible, and who would want to look like that?

  26. taxi says:

When I lok at Nicole’s pic, I see Botox, filler, and lots of gum. Never have liked gum grins. Her nose looks skinnier in these shots too.

  27. Patrick says:

Just finished watching “The Paperboy”, pretty darn intensive stuff. Brilliant acting by McConaughey, ZacEfron & Nicole Kidman!

As long as Kidman chooses interesting roles (in bizarre films, I think she was Oscar-snobbed in the Paperboy)all is good.

  28. Jennifer12 says:

Nicole, Nicole. WHAT have you done to yourself?? 🙁
