New images from Robert Pattinson’s Dior campaign: sexy, moody or budget?

I’ve already declared Robert Pattinson’s Dior campaign to be boring, awful, pretentious and many, many other awful things. Now that I’m seeing more of it… it just seems like a waste. The full campaign allegedly comes out on September 1st, but images (both legit and behind-the-scenes) keep on leaking ahead of the official release, and I’ve tried to include many of the images in this post. Some of them I actually like – I like morose, contemplative Sparkles at the piano, and I don’t mind the naked woman embracing him from behind at the piano.

But here’s the thing… Dior spent REAL MONEY on this campaign. They shot it like an expensive short film. They had multiple locations. They had a full team of people working on separate coasts to make this campaign. Not to mention the fact that they paid Rob millions of dollars to front the campaign. And it just feels like such a waste of resources and time and effort. The photos are aiming for moody, evocative, intense, sexy, etc. Which is fine. But they could have achieved the same thing with a tenth of the budget, just putting Sparkles in a Dior suit at the piano and having him brood.

Dior released a behind-the-scenes video too – at least Rob looked like he was having fun. It’s nice to see him smile so much.

I would take him in all these scenarios, especially where he’s carrying the girl on the beach. Totally into this campaign.

  2. dahlianoir says:

Yawn. Replace him with Fassy and we have a deal.

  3. Another Ann says:

I’ll reserve judgement on the ad, since we haven’t seen it yet. The behind the scenes video looks good, as do most of the still shots. The creative content of the campaign looks good so far, it’s the way Dior has handled the rollout that’s lacking.

The slow trickle of info and images is a mistake, they’d have done better going for a big reveal with perhaps just a teaser or two.

  4. FreeSpiritedGirl says:

    Oooooooooh! loooooooove!

  5. Eleonor says:

I think this campain looks pretty decent, and after the Pitt Chanel ad this looks like a masterpiece.

  6. Shy says:

    RPatz is ugly.

  7. Mia 4S says:

Why all the build up for something so unremarkable?

  8. booboocita says:

Gotta admit, the photo of him carrying the woman on the beach is kind of hot. The rest, not so much.

  9. IWantToLiveInNew York says:

Not into it. The shots where the women is naked (& almost naked) and in full view, while he is almost out of view are annoying the hell out of me. Isn’t it suppose to be his campaign?

  10. Kiki says:

These pics are boring and he is NOT attractive. Never got the hype over this guy…NEVER.

  11. Shy says:

She doesn’t have a good body in that naked picture, where she walks towards him.

  12. Carolyn says:

Good grief. Give me a iphone and 10mins with Rob and even I could have put something together far more sexy and cool than what we’ve seen so far.

  13. Nicole says:

How can you not love this video? To quote Taylor Momsen … “It’s f$cking Led Zeppelin, man”. Who are the actors again?

Seriously though, this is OK for what it is. I think you have to be biased against him to take a downer on this because both he and Camille do the job well here but…he does attract shade for no apparent reason, so, wait for it…

  14. renee says:

    Please bring Jude back !
Dear Dior, admit your mistake, cut your losses and bring Jude back.

    Love Renee.

  15. Tig says:

I like the photos- I think B&W is so dramatic. I had never heard of the still photographer bef this, and will definitely be looking out for more of her work.

I agree- he really seemed to be enjoying himself during this shoot- great to see.

  16. Vee says:

I’m enjoying the campaign and the tidbits tbh. Rob and the model work very well together.

The BTS video is amazing! I’m buying what they are selling.

  17. Francie Nolan says:

Boring. Who is this supposed to appeal to?

  18. mia girl says:

I like the whole aesthetic. Loved the behind the scenes video. Who knew Led Zeppelin and Pattinson would work?

  19. Annabelle says:

I’m really underwhelmed with what I’ve seen of the campaign so far. He looks nice in some of the photos, but I’ve yet to see a really standout pic. It’s just kind of ‘meh’ all around.

  20. jean says:

The girl look like Sienna Miller in the first picture.

  21. Francie Nolan says:

He probably should have looked into acting lessons instead.

  22. CaribbeanLaura says:

Someone mentioned that the girl didn’t have a “good body” she has a perfectly normal body, she isn’t stick thin that’s right, but she seems to have a fully functioning body which is good non? I actually think that’s cool that they put a ‘normal sized’ woman in the campaign

  23. bee says:

Wow, I have definitely come to the conclusion that people will hate on Rob no matter what. This campaign is beautifully put together. The model is stunning and Rob has great chemistry with her. I love the whole aesthetic and vision here. It isn’t supposed to be glossy, but edgy and a little darker than what we are used to seeing in fragrance commercials. I think it definitely succeeds in what it set out to do. And if you watch this and still don’t think Rob is sexy, there is no hope for you imo ;)

  24. Diana says:

That vid made me smile. He looks hot and happy. I’m liking it so far. Want to see the damn ad already.

  25. Eden says:

So what youre saying is you wanted him to look like every other campaign in a suit – the to be expected but expensive “looking” – that’s what I see as boring. This is intriguing, moody, and all the rest of the adjectives they were going for. Looks damn hot. But definitely unexpected and a bit dark but definitely not cheap or boring. Expand your creative brain.

  26. CooCooCatchoo says:

OMG, I just got a lady boner. He is the hotness.

  27. Melissa says:

Ugh it’s just like any old photoshoot, there’s no spark or anything to set this campaign apart.

  28. loma says:

This campaign idea shouldve spent more time in R&D

  29. amanda says:

he looks better in motion than he does in photographs and i miss him having some length to his hair. but i’m a sucker for a good montage video and especially one with a led zeppelin song.

  30. Happy21 says:

To me he’s a shapeshifter. Sometimes he looks super good and other times he looks not so much. He looked mostly good in the video.

Regardless of his looks he seems so very charming and just such a nice guy. And in the end that accounts for so much more than looks :)

  31. drea says:

It’s always the women who are naked. Just sayin’.

  32. shannon says:

    hmmmm…going with pretentious.

  33. Stacia says:

He seems very likeable and genuine. Nice looking campaign.

  34. original almond says:

For such a long drawn-out campaign, that perfume better be the most amazing scent ever.
As for Sparkles, he can be appealing, so I’ll reserve judgement until I see the actual adds plastered all over the place.

  35. Katie says:

OMG, I was totally cheesing at the end of watching that video and I’m not even a Twihard. The footage of him kissing the girl with the snow swirling all around them was my favorite. Wow! Honestly, this campaign makes me want to go buy that cologne for my husband like yesterday!

  36. Lou says:

Love, love, love everything about this campaign. Rob looks incredible, the story is fantastic as is the cinematography. It’s actually refreshing to see a new approach to a fragrance comercial. Oh and did I say Rob looks hot?!

  37. Dana says:

I like everything we have seen so far. The campaign will be a success, I think.
All photos have a very special atmosphere you can’t create by simply taking a few iPhone photos.

  38. E-v-E says:

I don’t think I have seen a single movie of his yet, but that allowed me to be free from the hype, even though he is a good-looking guy, I must say his public persona appeals to me, he seems like s nice guy and a professional. Too bad that grumpy cat of a girl got him by the balls. They could’ve been the new Brangelina, had she tried to have some substance other than sulking on red carpets projecting some intellectual who accidentally got there, and then that whole married director thing that did him more damage than it did to her. Such a wasted potential for these type of things. Sigh. And yes, it looks like a really expensive production and the female model is kind of meh. Another actress would be hotter maybe.

  39. Luisa says:

I cant wait! I’m loving this ad, it’s definitely not boring.

  40. pippa says:

I just now saw Rob’s Elle video interview for Dior. He is so articulate and THAT makes him very sexy! Apparently DIOR gave him a lot of freedom.

    • Starbuck says:

I co-sign. I think this campaign looks really great. Sold. I have no idea what his career holds for him or projections for whether or not he will ever achieve Leo or Brad status but there is no doubt that he is charming and seems like a decent person. I’ve read some of the interviews he did for this campaign and he says in several that he finally feels grown up. I honestly don’t recall another male celebrity of his stature copping to something like this. I dunno, maybe I’m just stupid but its refreshing and he comes across as naturally charming, nice and unrehearsed. For as much shit as he gets for his acting, if he’s putting up a front then his detractors might want to find something else to bash because he’s Oscar worthy in his performance. Well done, Robert, well done.

  41. KierneM says:

That rectangular viewfinder thing in the first pic? I just got a little happy in the undies imagining starting to kiss him there. whatever this stuff smells like, bf is getting it for xmas. Rob is YUMMY!
