Obama daughters get a surprise visit from the Jonas brothers

Barack Obama Inauguration

Yesterday was a marathon day for Barack and Michelle Obama’s two young daughters, Malia and Sasha. They were by their parents’ sides all day for the inauguration, various parades and other activities, and towards the evening it was apparent that the schedule was taking a toll on the girls. But they did get some fun: while mom and dad were attending 10 inauguration receptions last night, Sasha and Malia were treated to a scavenger hunt, movies and a surprise visit from their favorite boy band, the Jonas brothers.

President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle weren’t the only ones who got entertained by A-listers on inauguration night Tuesday. Their daughters Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, received a surprise visit by the Jonas Brothers.

ABC News is reporting that the Obama girls kicked off inauguration night by watching High School Musical 3 and Bolt with some of their friends from their new school Sidwell Friends.

They then had a scavenger hunt around their new home to learn its history. (White House ushers had organized a similar hunt for Chelsea Clinton when she first moved into the White House in 1993.)

At the end of their hunt, according to ABC News, Malia and Sasha opened a door to find Kevin, Joe, and Nick Jonas (who had performed their hit “Burning Up” for the girls Monday night at the Kids’ Inaugural Concert).

I bet there is one corporation who is more ecstatic about kids being in the White House than any other: Disney. Not only did they send over “High School Musical 3” and “Bolt” for the girls to watch, but they have also had multiple opportunities to pimp out their largest commodities: Miley Cyrus and The Jonas Brothers. The Disney marketing people must be creaming themselves right now! As for the girls, it was nice that they were able to have some friends over and just hang out at their new pad. I hope they are able to maintain some normalcy and privacy after all the excitement dies down.

  2. Christina says:

hmmm… there seems to be more daughters than sons in the white house lately…

  3. NotBlonde says:

Aw how cute. They are a lucky couple of girls 🙂

  4. Ling says:

I wonder what girls they knew well enough after one day to invite to such a party.

  5. what is ever. says:

Maybe it was the kids from their respective classes– they’re both elementary school age, right?

They’re both beautiful girls, and I have to say they look pretty adorable in those crewcuts coats.

  6. Diva says:

They’ve been going to school there longer than a day. Granted it hasn’t been more than a couple weeks, but it has been longer than a day.

Can you imagine being that age and opening a door to your little pre-pubescent heartthrobs??? lol… pretty cute!

  7. Miriam says:

I actually heard it was the children of top cabinet member, not classmates.

  8. MSat says:

Good Morning America reported that they invited some new class mates as well as old friends from their school in Chicago.

The littlest girl, Sasha, is such a cutie!! Malia, the older one is going to be very beautiful, you can tell.

  9. Cari says:

I think they are both adorable and also think it’s pretty cool that the adults back at the White House thought of them too.

I read that the marching band process took two hours (!), I would have been bored senseless after the first hour, in all honesty.

Remember that VP Biden has 3 grandaughter’s who happen to be the same ages as Sasha and Malia, and who also go to the school the Obama’s attend. They were the little blonds dancing with them at the concert. Also the news said the girls cousins were part of the sleepover.

  11. AC says:

They are both beautiful and very lucky little girls. I just love this family!

  12. so proud says:

    The are sooooo adorable!!!

  13. Bodhi says:

They are SO freaking cute!! And such typical little girls! Squee!!

I’m not down with the whole Disney machine & I’m not around children as much as I used to be, but I think that anything that could make Malia & Sasha more comfortable & relaxed is A-OK in my book.

I know that they know what is going on around them & what they are a huge part of, but they are still little girls & they must be overwhelmed by it all.

Props to all those who are doing all they can to make Malia & Sasha comfortable & happy

  14. Because I Say So says:

I just love their custom made Crew Cut jackets. The children I never plan on having would be dressed in exactly the same way.

And I agree with MSat: Malia will be quite beautiful as she gets older. Sasha will only get cuter. I hope they keep some semblance of normalacy with them (here’s to hoping)

  15. Kim says:

I just love these little girls. They are so cute and you can tell that they are enjoying the whole experience of daddy making history. They also seem quite intelligent from the few interviews. Malia is so beautiful and Sasha is so cute and lively. She is quite some character. Hopefully their feet are kept on the ground and they love their new life.

  16. breederina says:

you know with Grandma Robinson in the house life for the Obama girls will not get out of hand! seriously, cool heads do prevail here, these little girls are dressed and treated appropriately to their ages. think they will be fine and pity the journo hack who crosses the line that has been very clearly drawn.

  17. KLO says:

The girls are both beautiful. The older looks a lot like Aaliyah, maybe even prettier.

  18. Todd H says:

I wouldn’t label them “lucky”…maybe fortunate. I hope their lives evolve graciously! I liked the letter the Bush girls wrote them. It had as much to do about how to act in the “limelight” as it had to do with just remembering that at the end of the day he’s “Daddy”.

  19. SeVen says:

    cutest little girls ever!

  20. CC says:

so cool. My niece is 9 and wants to be best friends with them because they get to meet the Jonas Brothers. Although my niece doesnt like Miley Cyrus, She said “she is a hoochie”. Well said.

  21. BabySanta says:

    OMG they are so lucky!
Their dad is a president of united states and they get to meet jonas brothers when ever they like! I’d love to find them behind my door!
plus they are soo cute and will prob get even more cuter when they grow up!
    And yes I’m a bit jealous 😉

  22. Isabella Caylee Marie Richards says:

I totally agree, Sasha is adorable, and she is super fiesty! It works for her!

And Malia will grow up to be gorgeous!
Sasha will always stay average to cute, but Malia will be the bombshell.

And, they are super lucky to meet the Jonas Brothers, because they are HUGE fans, and every little girl would LOVE to meet them, so I am just happy for them.

They are lucky, but I am SUPER thankful for the fact that their parents are so cool about keeping them down to Earth, because all of the attention can get to their heads, but hopefully their parents will continue being so strict (but still nice) so they stay down to Earth. 🙂

  23. chill_with_that says:

they are going to have a great life. with the right fundamentals to grow
they are lucky to have a caring mother and father who will always be there for them
