Paris Hilton defends herself against Nick Carter: ‘we dated for a short period’

This is some old gossip about celebrities we barely think about, but it’s mildly funny to me. Nick Carter, formerly of the Backstreet Boys, has published a new memoir called Facing the Music And Living To Talk About It. In his memoir, Nick covers his struggle with substance abuse and his relationship with Paris Hilton in 2004. They were together all of seven months. Nick has been sober for five years now, but he was deep in his addiction during his relationship with Paris. In interviews and in his memoir, Nick has said that Paris was an awful influence on him and called her “the worst person in the world for me to hook up with.” Paris has deigned to respond to Nick. She managed to shoot down his memory of what they shared, saying they only dated briefly, while bringing up the point that Nick was a rock star and that she wasn’t his only influence. She didn’t even deny that she was doing drugs at the time. Then she ended by wishing him well. Touche. Advantage Paris.

Paris Hilton is speaking out following Nick Carter’s claims that their relationship was unhealthy.

Access Hollywood spoke to the Backstreet Boy about Paris, who wrote about the socialite in his book, “Facing the Music and Living to Talk About It.”

“It is what it was. I was with someone who wasn’t good for me at the time. I might not have been good for her at the time,” he told Access of the former reality star.

In his book Nick wrote, “Paris was the worst person in the world for me to hook up with.”

The 33-year-old singer also told Access, “We had the partying in common. It just is what it is. That’s life. You go through, you have exes and you have past situations. But I don’t fault her for anything.”

On Wednesday, Paris – who dated the singer in 2004 – responded Nick in a statement to Access.

“I don’t believe I was a negative influence on Nick, we dated for a very short period of time almost 10 years ago and when we met he was already a successful pop star, I’m pretty sure that was the only thing influencing him at the time. I’m glad he got help for his problems and wish him all the best,” the 32-year-old said.

[From Access Hollywood]

In 2007, a storage locker was found with a ton of Paris Hilton’s personal effects. Among them were love letters between Paris and Nick that were pretty amusing and personal of course. They poured their hearts out to each other, and both declared their love. While Paris may be like “meh it was ten years ago and lasted a split second,” Nick may remember the intensity of what they shared. I’m just saying it sounds like he’s still a little hung up on her. Maybe I’m wrong though and he’s using Paris for publicity for his book, which would be a decent strategy five years ago. And as much as it pains me to say it, Paris’ statement is superb. Maybe her PR person wrote it, but she doesn’t sound bitter or defensive, just realistic.

He’s still a Backstreet Boy. And hell no he’s not hung up on her. She ruined him. He looked like something from the gutter when he was with her. It took thousands of hour long showers to wash away half of the stank she left on him. The girl is trash and I’m glad he’s talking about this. What I really want to know about is the 90’s pop scene. I might pick up his book for that reason alone (on second thought, I might not. That cover is so friggin creepy). Also, isn’t he getting married? He aint hung up. Trust.

  2. Stef Leppard says:

God he looks so old. It makes me feel old.

  3. Nono says:

I still remember Paris releasing a book (?) in which she said Nick had a small penis. That just about sums up how much class she has. That press release was not penned by her.

  4. paola says:

She likes playing stupid while thinking that everyone else is. Reality is a lot different though. she is a classes famewhore and if it wasn’t for her family money she would be working at a random job buying bottled blonde for 2 $.

    • Susie Q says:

      She’s not playing.

    • Jayna says:

      She is stupid.

    • RdyfrmycloseupmrDvlle says:

Shes not acting. She failed out of High school and Ive heard her freely admit thats shes “not that smart.” Personally, I think she might be a little ‘simple” or have a very very real learning disability. Youd think with their money her family might have investigated but her mother is a true space cadet and has her head up her own a$$ 24/7. Paris’s is truly not bright at all. Somethings very wrong with her mind.

  5. Tulip Garden says:

Paris is one of those people that make me wonder if she absolutely gets weary of herself. She seems to have no intellectual depth, no curiosity, just basically to “exist”. BTW, I am not being snarky or facetious.

    • Jayna says:

No, I agree. I really have no issues with most celebs like people do on CB, but she is the one I truly can’t stand.

      • Tulip Garden says:

Well, at least, we can get away from her via no clicking. She is STUCK with herself. It almost makes me feel sorry for her except that I realize she could change if she wanted.
BTW, I’ve always thought that a “reality show” with Hilton having to do actual peasant work , cook actual food, balance a budget, etc. etc.would actually be interesting if they made her do it nonstop for a year. This woman needs her horizons broadened in the worst possible way.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

“She seems to have no intellectual depth, no curiosity, just basically to “exist”.”

I used to find people like her intolerable and infuriating. I’ve since come to accept that some people really just ARE that vacuous and insipid and they’re never going to change.
Once I came to accept that some people are just dead inside, I became a lot more tolerant and accepting of peoples’ different personalities.
Who knows, maybe they have it right?

After all, Paris’s life seems a lot less exhausting than a life of analyzing and questioning, investigating and reasoning and constantly searching for the truth…

      • Kcaia says:

I Dont have a problem with most celebs either, and I used to like and defend Paris, and I still somewhat like the way she carries herself, like her above statement. But then I realized that she is not exactly who she puts herself out there to be, she is judgmental, prejudiced, maybe a racist, spiteful and hating so hard and for so long on Kim K, even Lindsay L-really showed her bitterness.

      • RdyfrmycloseupmrDvlle says:

She state of being is “ignorance is bliss.”

    • Kcaia says:

TOK, It’s because you’re very smart and intelligent, like most of the posters here. I think all open minds have a hard time grasping the closed ones.

  6. kcarp says:

I saw Nick on Dr. Phil the other day. He seemed sincere and mature. He also sang a song for this other girl struggling with addiction and I thought he did a really good job.

He seems like he has been through the ringer and he is really tired. Ha, Ha, he is like me now with a 2 year old, not like he use to be back in the day.

  7. doofus says:

he really shouldn’t hold up that book cover next to his face because it shows how much they photoshopped it.

    • Chicagogurl says:

Thank you! I thought the same thing. It looks like one (top chef) voltaggio brother is greasy and standing in for the other.

  8. V says:

So…what’s her response to Melissa Joan Hart saying Paris gave her cocaine? What’s Nick’s response to MJH saying she made out with him? Maybe Mr. Carter and MJH should do their book tours together!

    • Annie says:

The name of the tour should be “90’s Hasbeens Tour of Shock.”

I can’t believe people actually buy these books and then mock things like Twilight. It’s much worse to read the biased stories of hasbeens.

  9. Huh says:

I don’t think he’s hung up on her in the slightest, and if memory serves, Paris and her amazingly dishonest, as-scummy but quieter sister, Nicki, staged paparazzi photos through a store window where Paris had bruising all over her arms the weekend they announced (they being Paris and Nick Carter) their breakup.

That, plus the fact that all of her coke-addled nonsense and arrests happened after the breakup show me that he’s of course telling the truth. I saw Nick on Watch What Happens Live (he was saddled with the absurd Suzanne Somers as the other guest) and thought he was sincere and really rather young-looking. I wish him the best – he lost his sister to an overdose, his brother is also struggling with addiction. Those people will deal with having had unstable parents forever.

Paris is IMO a sociopath with no inclination towards violence. She doesn’t feel. For anyone or anything. So the statement is a big whatever to me.

    • Susie Q says:

I agree with what you said. POS paris tried to insinuate Nick beat her up. She tries to pretend she’s classy while she goes around dropping trou and peeing in front of people. I can honestly say she is only ‘celebrity’ I despise. Also, I’ve always wondered whether Nicki is all there or if she is short a pickle?

    • Jayna says:

I like Nick and think they did have crappy parents. He has really tried to straighten out his life. I liked his sister on their reality show years ago. Paris is soulless.

      • Liz says:

If he was at all straightened out, legitimate, or sincere he would be taking responsibilities for his own actions. Instead he is acting as if he had no ability to think for himself.

I’m not a Paris fan, but for as awful as she is I am pretty sure she doesn’t have the ability to force former teen heart throbs into vacuuming up an 8ball on a nightly basis. Via brain (or vagine) power.

      • ScrewStewrat99 says:

I don’t think he’s blaming her. He says he doesn’t fault her. He takes responsibility, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t influence him. People are influenced to make choices all of the time.

  10. Lucy2 says:

I think he included her name for publicity but I also think she really was a terrible influence on him. Everyone who hung out with her over the years has hit rock bottom soon after.
She probably loves this because it’s putting her name back into the media, no matter how.

    • magpie says:

Yup, Lindsay, Misha, Britney…Paris was a great influence on all of them.

      • Annie says:

Right, because mischa and Lindsay’s problems disappeared as soon as they stopped talking to Paris!

That entire crowd was messed up. All of them.

  11. Hannah says:

It is silly to think that including someone in an autobiography means that you are hung up on them. It’s an autobiography of his life and he dated her. And while it may have been 7 months I remember how intense SHE portrayed it to the media.

I have an awful ex who, if I had to tell my story, would definietly be included in there for his negative influences. I’m sure i would include an ex that had good influence on my life too.

    • Bibi says:

@annie you seem to forget that Paris has been arrested for drugs many times since too lohan and mischa was no longer around. If memory serves me right she was banned from Japan or south Africa or something due to drugs so its not like she is any better. In lohans defense she was a teenager when she fell in with Paris crowd and with those awful parents she had no chance. Mischa may have been an addict and had psych problems but was she an awful person like Paris and her BFF Brandon Davis with their racism, classism and misogyny? Don’t think that was the case.

  12. Annie says:

Nick was a grown ass adult though and everyone who is a BSB fan knows those guys liked to party. Hard. Nick had a problem with alcohol long before Paris. It was only a matter of time before he dabbled into other stuff.
I don’t doubt that Paris likes drugs and was a bad influence on many people, but you could also claim the same thing the other way around. Was Nicole Richie ever that innocent or a great influence to anyone back then? Mischa? Lindsay? That entire crowd was one and the same. Birds of a feather flock together. I think it’s ridiculous to be a grown ass adult and somehow try to blame someone else for your bad decisions. Are we 10?

It’s also a little interesting how quickly the entire world forgot the questionable things about Nick, like the time Paris was seen bruised up, face, legs and arms while dating him. At the time she claimed it was a photoshoot gone wrong. To this day we have not seen the pictures of said photoshoot, and what photographer does that to his subject? And would pretty princess Paris agree to such a tought shoot? People suspected Nick immediatelt, especially because they knew there was drama with those two and how they broke up almost right after that incident, but nobody ever tried to follow up because nobody liked Paris, but look for those pictures. That girl took a beating and she’s said before that Nick had a very bad temper. There is a reason why his entire family stopped talking to him. Also, funny how HE is allowed to blame an adult for his addictions but as soon as his sister does it to him, oh HALE NO, how dare she. She only wanted his money, you see.

Don’t let your BSB love blind you. This guy is a nasty piece of work himself and this entire tour of confessions is completely designed to make himself look better and sell books. Paris is not going to talk because then she would have to answer for her own messed up things, but if she did, she would let everyone know what Nick put her through as well.

It’s sad to me how men always blame the woman, and people, including women, tend to agree. Paris didn’t ~ruin him. He was a nobody already.

    • Susie Q says:

Paris is a talentless, nasty piece of shit, don’t know how anyone could defend her and although I detest violence I’m surprised she doesn’t get the shit kicked out of her weekly.

    • Jayna says:

She set up that photo-op with the bruises.. She’s trash. He’s not saying she led him down the path. He’s saying she’s the worst person he could have hooked up with at that time, another dope head partier as his girlfriend.

    • Kcaia says:

Annie I agree 100%. Paris is one of the few celebs I don’t like but it still is in no shape or form her fault for any of his decisions. As soon as I read the title to this article I realized he can’t be doing too great if he still does not take responsibilities for his own actions. There’s no excuses! He chose to date Paris because He was attracted to the type of person she was, and He chose to use drugs. If it wasn’t PH it would have been some other party girl. At least Paris isn’t making excuses or blaming others for her choices in life

      • tuva says:

If you read his book you’d see he actually doesn’t blame anyone but himself. All he said about Paris is they weren’t good for each other at the time.

      • Kcaia says:

Yeah Tuva, I see the quotes of his were innocent enough. I should have read but I kind of skimmed the story. I dont think what he said was wrong, at least above, and I was too quick to judge in his case by taking something out of context

    • Madriani's Girl says:

He didn’t beat her up – she fabricated the whole thing when he broke up with her. That’s why she never came out and actually said he did it, because she knew he could sue her for defamation and win. She just looked all sad and upset in public and allowed everyone to think he had done it by not answering when the paps asked if he had. He was no angel and he does have a wicked temper, but he never put his hands on her. It was well known in the clubs in the Hamptons that the two of them would get lit up and go to the club and she would purposely send him into orbit by flirting with other guys. They would get into huge fights on the dancefloor and in the parking lots but he never once hit her.

    • ella says:

the bruises from the tabloid photos in which she is wearing a head scarf? – she was shoved down a set of stairs by a model she was seeing in LA.

  13. Jayna says:

Paris is trash. Just a few years ago she and that guy got stopped and she had cocaine in her purse. She’s in her thirties and still a shallow party girl. When you are a door head like Nick was sometimes the only stabilizing force surrounding you in a rock star’s life is a stable girlfriend. He picked someone like him that year and so probably that’s what he meant, constant highs and partying together.

    • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

Shit, I wish her grandfather would adopt me. I’d go to school and study whatever he wanted me to study. I wonder where all the money’s going–I know that her grandfather disinherited/isn’t leaving any of the money to the grandkids (or parents??), or Paris and Nicki/any other druggy party grandkids–who’s going to get it??

Maybe there are a few grandkids that are actually grateful that they have money and DO something with that money that benefits someone or something other than themselves. One can hope and pray. I should write him a letter telling him why I’m deserving of some money to my college fund–it’d be better spent if I flunked out, than going up Paris’s nose.

  14. dorothy says:

Just think…a lot of people are saying, Paris who?

  15. Yelly says:

They were perfect for each other, two asshats.

  16. Quinn says:

Please, put this girl back in the “DONE” pile…NO MORE.

  17. tifzlan says:

I am a huge, huge fan of BSB and when i was a 7-year-old, i had fantasies of marrying Nick Carter. Oh, how silly i was. The true babes are AJ and Brian, duh.

  18. lovegossip says:

Didn’t he physically abuse her? I seem to remember pictures of her bruised face years ago. I know I remember something like that, anyone else?

  19. lovegossip says:

Haha. I went back and read the old post about the letters. If you want to laugh I suggest you do it too. Lmao Sounds like letters written by 12 years olds. At the bottom it talks about reading the letters in full for a price at some Paris site or site made by a fan? Can’t remember now, but my question is people could actually SIGN up to WILLINGLY pay to read “love” letters between these two??? Omg….. 😀

  20. RobN says:

Regardless of who wrote it, it’s a well-crafted statement.

Maybe his need to place blame on others is one of the reasons his family still wants nothing to do with him.

  21. IceQueen says:

I think they both were young and stupid and fame and money hungry. Now they’re both older, grown up, fame and money hungry. I remember reading somewhere that Paris made 500000Eur per night while Dj-ing in Ibiza. Not bad for someone who’s “stupid” and has no “intellectual depth”. After they stopped hanging out Lindsay went to jail and ruined every credibility she had as an actress, Paris went from millionaire to billionaire.

  22. Avilita says:

Instead of trashing the woman, the man should be take responsibility for his own actions.

  23. Andrea says:

People saying that his family doesnt want to talk to him because of things he did…you realize how trashy his family is right? If hes been sober for 5 years and hasnt tried to talk to them maybe they are terrible people?

Also Im not sure about those brusing photos but neither one said anything so who knows.

  24. Madriani's Girl says:

He looks like crap. Drugs, booze and cigs – they age you horribly, people!

  25. booger says:

Paris is a walking, talking time capsule from the early 2000’s.

  26. Chloeee says:

He must have cleaned his act up I remember a few issues with his family that escalated too right? Now if he can save his douche of a little brother…and yes I know for a fact Aaron’s douche flag is still at full mast.

  27. Jana says:

I read a blind item a while back about a socialite who always got bad press but people hung out with her same way because she always had the finest cocaine. It read like her to a H.

  28. Lori says:

I don’t think it’s advantage her , I also don’t think he is hung up on her. He wrote a memoir of those years and partly because people want to know about the famous people he dated and partly because she probably was wrong for her he says so. He also says that he probably was a bad influence on her so I don’t get the impression he is being mean that’s pretty fair to say. Too people who both have that kind of lifestyle can further the addiction and make it worse. They obviously werent good for eachother.

  29. Missykittens says:

What baffles me is, if Paris is such a druggie, which I believe to be true, why doesn’t she look like one? She always looks perfect and healthy (skinny yes but healthy).

  30. Sloane Wyatt says:

I could not believe after reading through these comments how no one mentioned her leaving her baby puppies in a closet to starve to death! – https://gawker.com/355559/pet-ownership-may-prove-to-be-paris-hiltons-chappaquiddick AND http://www.eonline.com/news/24892/one-in-the-closet-blind-vice Paris is SCUM!

I’m sorry Nick had anything to do with Ebola Virus.

  31. homegrrrrl says:

Didn’t need to bring her up or bring her down. A truly recovered person takes all responsibility.

  32. Mia says:

When, lord? WHEN will this crash test dummy finally go straight to hell where she belongs? Isn’t it about time the devil came to collect her soul? I mean, it’s obvious that the only way her vapid, useless self gained fame and fortune was because she made a deal with the devil. She didn’t get there based on any discernible talents, merits, or even an interesting personality. Satan, come get your stupid child and be done with it already !!!
