Taylor Swift trying not to find ‘bad or shady or secretive’ guys so attractive these days

taylor1

Taylor Swift covers the new issue of InStyle, which surprisingly enough does not look like a reprint. Most of the time, InStyle does seem… I don’t know, like they jacked their editorials from another source. These quotes sound new too. Tay-Tay is asked about boys, of course, but Taylor has some new stuff to say about her maturing taste in boyfriends (“Good hair” is no longer her #1 must-have?) and she also talks about her super-twee friendship with Lena Dunham. Because of course they’re BFFs now. Some highlights:

What Swifty looks for in a man: “I think it needs to change. My friends tease me about the fact that if someone seems bad or shady or like they have a secret, I find them incredibly interesting. That’s just a phase I’ve been in lately. I don’t think this should be how I proceed in life. It’s important to be self-aware about these things because you don’t want to end up with that guy.”

She hasn’t had a boyfriend in a while: “I haven’t been [in a relationship] in a long time. I’d like to think if you’re with the right person, you just feel great about things you’ve never felt great about before. At least that’s how I’ve heard it’s supposed to be. I wouldn’t know.”

Dating the wrong guys: “Sometimes you know after two dates that you’re not the right fit. And sometimes you know you’re not the right fit, and you fall for it anyway. One thing I’ve learned that I’m proud of – drum roll, please – is when to walk away. I’ve had some short relationships because I know when to do that.”

She’s got one dude friend, Ed Sheeran: “Ed and I are such good friends. I have never had such a close guy friend before. It’s always kind of creepy because with a guy friend-girl friend situation, it usually feels like one person always wants more. That’s not the case here… But, if you want to be friends with me, just know people are going to say we’re dating.”

Her friendship with Lena Dunham: Part of what keeps them close is that even though Lena is shooting Girls ‘like, 40,000 hours a day,’ the Red singer says, ‘She can always figure out a couple of hours to come visit.’ The two met not at a Hollywood event or through actor friends, but on Twitter. ‘We follow each other, and she sent me a direct message, and it just became a mutual admiration society… It then became apparent that we were very similar. Very similar. I feel like I can tell her anything,’ Taylor adds.

[From InStyle via The Mail]

I think we should declare victory and leave the field of battle. Taylor is basically admitting that she has crappy, immature taste in men and that she’s spent much of the past year without a boyfriend because she wanted to figure some of her sh-t out. Taylor hasn’t publicly had a boyfriend since Harry Styles, although I do wonder about her relationship with Matthew Gray Gubler. I think there was something there, and maybe there still is. But whatever’s happening, Taylor’s game has gotten a bit tighter since Harry Styles, hasn’t it? Also: I kind of love that Taylor and Ed are friends. I know Ed’s fan-girls don’t like it, but I think it’s sweet. She’s this tall, rangy American chick and he’s a short, ginger English bloke, and they make music together. It’s adorable.

Why does she look like she’s on the cover of a 1970s country music Christmas album?
    Step it up InStyle.

    • Willa says:

Yes she does! That’s funny. Sleigh bells riiiing…

    • LadyBird83 says:

By “secretive” she means secretly gay. Everyone knows Taylor has a never ending “bearding” contract.

    • Elizabeth Rose says:

@Tiffany27: Seriously my first thought as well! Bizarre cover and it diminishes her attractiveness too with the styling of her hair and outfit – not that she’s gorgeous but she doesn’t look as good as her candids.

    • Emma13 says:

      I really liked the sweater… 🙁

  2. Tanguerita says:

what is this dead animal on her head?

  3. mkyarwood says:

This just in: over it, Tay-Tay.

  4. Evie says:

God, this girl only talks about boys

    • Seagulls says:

Don’t people mostly answer questions they’re asked in interviews?

      • Emily C. says:

Someone with Taylor Swift’s fame and clout can definitely direct an interview to go the way she wants it to go, especially from a publication like InStyle. She can also bring up other stuff if she wants. An interview is not a cross-examination.

  5. Kiddo says:

    Green overload.

  6. Sabrina says:

    The cover looks terrible.

She should really try to date someone outside the industry, although I’m sure most guys her own age that are not in the entertainment business would be a bit intimidated by her.

  7. Petee says:

She just needs to be single for awhile and get to know and love herself. It seems like she is and has been on a mission of finding the “one” for a very long time.

  8. MonicaQ says:

I had a teddy bear that looked like Taylor Swift’s hair once. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.

  9. Allie says:

I don’t think “creepy” would be the right word to define boy/girl friendships. It sucks if one starts liking the other, but def not creepy. She’s so weird with boys.

  10. Lola Lulu says:

    creepy eyes on this cover

  11. Mhmm says:

    Love her and this interview.

  12. Emily C. says:

Go to college, woman. There is more to life than boyfriends. Jeez, she annoys me.

And she thinks it’s “creepy” when men and women are friends? FFS. She is one messed up little girl in a woman’s body.

  13. Kcaia says:

Damn way to be negative people. Why do people feel they have the right to tell her what she should do when shes hurting no one but herself? She has to learn like we all do and she is, so that’s all that matters to me. She seems like a genuinely nice person.

  14. NorthLoop says:

She’s a 13 year old girl trapped in the body of a 20 year old

  15. INeedANap says:

It’s odd to me that not only does she seem to rotate boyfriends really quickly, she also rotates friends. First it’s Selena Gomez, then Dianna Agron, then Emma Stone, now Lena Dunham. Like, being her female friend is also an up-and-down drama with its own pecking order. For someone who didn’t go to high school, she sure does act like she’s still there. Standard mean girl schtick — pretend to be sweet and nice as a way to cover meanness.

    • Kitkat says:

She is still really good friends with Selena (they were seated together at the VMAs and I believe Selena just had an interview where she was talking about Taylor) and Dianna Agron was in a Vine with her recently too. I think it’s more of just that every time she has a new friend interviewers ask her about them and don’t bring up the old friends? It always seems to generally be the same people on Taylor’s instagram/twitter at least.

  16. rosy says:

Jeez girl we all know that most if not all of these “boyfriends” are under contract and you are put together by management teams to boost publicity for a project. People are not that stupid

  17. kellyinseattle says:

I just wish she’d wear some muted lipstick for once in her life.

  18. Turq says:

^^Yes!! On her red lipstick looks old-fashioned as opposed to modern like on Gwen Stefani. The makeup she had in her Tears on My Guitar video suits her better. She has a mature face, so needs younger looking makeup.
