Idris Elba discusses Pres. Obama: ‘He’s a fan of my work and I’m a fan of his’

Here are some photos from last night’s LA premiere of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. Idris Elba was there, of course, hoping for a late surge in support for a possible Oscar nomination. Naomie Harris (who plays Winnie Mandela) wore a gorgeous Vionnet Spring 2014 gown which… man, Naomie has been hitting it out of the park lately. I love this dress on her. I’m also including pics of David Oyelowo, plus one of Naomie and Idris with Nelson Mandela’s daughter Zindzi Mandela. The Mandela family has been very supportive of this film, and of Idris in particular. They think his Mandela is great, which is great for Idris.

Idris was recently in Washington to screen the film for President Obama. Obama has been a fan for a while (Obama loved The Wire and Stringer Bell in particular), and Idris told journalists on the red carpet that Obama “told everyone in the screening room… ‘Idris Elba couldn’t sit down because all the ladies, all the ladies were all over him. Give him a break today, ladies. Give him a break,’ I was sitting in the room with a massive head. I’ve met him once before. He’s a fan of my work and I’m a fan of his, so we got on very well. And I really felt proud to take the film to him, because I know how fond he is of Mr. Mandela.” Nice. But is it good enough for an Oscar nomination?

I LOVE Naomie’s dress! Ice blue is one of my favorite colours 🙂 And Idris is looking hot ass usual!

  2. aims says:

I love the color of the dress. Idris never disappoints.

  3. Violeta says:

Oh wow bow to Naomie, now Lupita girl take some tips, you’re already on the right path but take the boldness path as well.

Sorry Idris but I’m focused on Naomie, would like her to be more interviewed during the Oscar race… love her since 28 Days Later, she and Chiwetel were such a banging couple back then (urgh I know shouldn’t hang onto nostalgia)…

Between Octavia in Fruitvale Station, Lupita in TYAS and Naomie, I doubt the Academy will have the 3 nominated in the BSA category…

Of course the Mandelas support this film, these people will never stop milking their famous relative. I was shoked to see how they acted during his stay at the hospital.

  5. TheOriginalKitten says:

    Wow, Naomie looks amazing.
She and Idris would make a really hot couple.

  6. TheOriginalKitten says:

    double post for some reason..

  7. AlexandraJane says:

    oh that dress!

  8. Abby says:

Lol Obama’s praise still won’t get him a nomination….similarly how David Cameron’s praise did nothing for Cumby.

Naomi looks amazing. She is absolutely stunning. I am really eager to see her more during the award season.

@Violeta….I feel ya, her and Chiwetel were a sexy couple….too bad they broke up.

    • Tish says:

Just basing on Cameron’s and Obama’s public likability, Cumby will never get a nomination for that compliment.

Heard the Mandela film is not good though. If Jordan misses out because of Elba’s shameless campaign, I’ll personally slap Weinstein in the face.

      • Abby says:

Jordan will miss out anyways girl. He is young and has lot of time and opportunities to give amazing performances again.

My money is on these 5

Leonardo DiCaprio (Wolf of Wall Street)
        Mathew Mcconaughey (Dallas Buyers Club)
        Tom Hanks (Captain Phillips)
Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 years a slave)
Forest Whitaker (Burler) OR Robert Redford (Nebraska) he got really amazing reviews.

      • Tish says:

        We’ll see.

Redford’s is for All is Lost.

      • Violeta says:

The Best Actor Oscar locks so far

        Bruce Dern

        Chiwetel Ejiofor

        Tom Hanks

        Robert Redford

the 5th spot well it’s all open for discussion….

      • Tish says:

@Violeta I hope Matthew gets it if not Jordan.

      • Abby says:

@Tish….yes it’s All is Lost. I mixed the movies up for some reason.

  9. V4Real says:

No talking in the third, big improvement. Idris was great in The Wire. I love that he played Mandela and his acting talent is starting to shine. Plus he’s so hot.

Naomie is so beautiful, I wish her and Captain Sexy would give it another go now that he’s single again.

  10. Tish says:

    Campaigning so damn hard…

  11. Anna says:

Naomie looks stunning in that dress!!!!!
I have to agree with Obama LOL If I was there I would’ve been all over Idris too

  12. Dommy Dearest says:

    Oh Heimdall no /:
    Not that traitor Obama.

  13. Ag says:

Stringer Bell IS a fantastic character. I hope Idris does an equally amazing job portraying Mandela.
