Michael Fassbender stars in ‘X-Men’ viral marketing ‘The Bent Bullet’: freaky?

I had forgotten that director Bryan Singer loves viral marketing so much. Singer has returned to the X-Men franchise with the latest film, X-Men: Days of Future Past. The film promises to be epic, with appearances from the “modern” X-Men (Halle Berry, Hugh Jackman, etc) joined with the 1960s/70s versions (Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, etc). Marvel already released a real teaser trailer several weeks ago, but now the viral marketing campaign has begun in earnest. Quietly, Marvel introduced a new site, The Bent Bullet, and put up a freaky video. What’s freaking me out is they got the same voiceover guy from PBS’s Frontline. This dude has a voice of authority, and if he says Erik Lehnsherr bent Lee Harvey Oswald’s bullet, then it probably happened that way. Here’s the video:

So, in this alternate X-Men universe, the X-Men were the ones to stop the Cuban Missile Crisis (which Kevin Bacon started in the first place!), and now Magneto is killing JFK? YIKES. I’m not sure what I think about comic books reappropriating 20th century history. Maybe it will work. It’s freaky though. I will say this: Michael Fassbender as Magneto is always interesting to me. Fassy’s a great actor, but as Magento, he’s like James Bond with mutant powers. It’s awesome.

Here’s the first teaser trailer from X-Men: Days of Future Fassdong. The music is seriously killing my X-Men boner. It’s way too melodramatic.

Here’s the first “viral” teaser, which is just a bland-seeming commercial for “Trask Industries,” a fictional company that makes sketchy Terminator-like robots. Peter Dinklage is playing Bolivar Trask, so I guess he’s definitely the “bad guy” of the film – a bad guy with an army of sketchy robots.

PS… This is for the Fassloonies who were begging for a good, hot dose of Fassy. Enjoy!

He’s looking mighty fine in that suit.

Singer really does love viral marketing and I was pleasantly surprised by this twist; Magneto has always been on of my favorite characters, both Sir Ian and Fassy do him justice (i only wish I could say the same for Storm ;_; ).

I’m super excited about watching past and future incantations of Magneto and the Professor interact.

Albeit I’m a DC head, I love Marvel as well, and I’m still pissed at how they made Storm look in the X-Men movies, she’s one of the best BAMF in the comics books, same for Rogue I mean… I mean… why???

      • Maria says:

Yes, Storm was so fierce in the comics!

I loathed the writing for her in the films because it felt so contrary to the woman I read about! Hell, the cartoon gave her better background from what I remember.

The re-writing of real life historical events by comic books always was kind of strange and a little off to me….I love Fassy and think he’s a hottie and an incredible actor, but now whenever I read about him on a gossip blog I can’t help but remember how downright dumb he seems. He seriously seems like kind of a himbo, a genius at acting but a himbo irl.

  3. ashley says:

Thank you, kaiser!!! You made my day, when will it be out?

  4. Violeta says:

    Now this is how you build some serious marketing hype around a film, well played Marvel, well played! Take notes DC Comics dammit I still have hopes for you ;___;

And 12 Years A Slaves, leads the nods at the ISA, Fassbender got an Independent Spirit Award nod for Best Supporting Actor, did you catch it guys? It’s a tie between him and Leto imo.

  5. mia girl says:

I can not wait to see this movie!!!

  6. Jen says:

Eh, don’t like it when comic books try to “rewrite” historical facts at all.

And Fassbender has a horrible personality so I Just automatically dislike him lol.

  7. OriginallyBlue says:

Omg, I can’t wait!!! This movie will be my graduation and birthday present when it comes out.

  8. Ellen says:

Except given the storyline, this is probably something that Trask made up, right? It’s something Trask framed Magneto for? And also one of the signs of the timeline changing, since Eric wasn’t in prison for assassination in the “original” movie storyline?

Talking about Marvel reboots is headache-inducing. Even before the movies, and the separate studios having control, there were as many versions of the universe as there were main characters, practically.

  9. Maria says:

Thank you for a Thanksgiving feast for the eyes and I am a serious fan of the Xmen movie, thanks to Fassy. BUT, James McAvoy looks HOT in this teaser and, dare I say it, hotter than Fassy. I may be losing my crush,

    • Diana says:

McAvoy for the win! Although Fassy is looking good too, McAvoy makes me tingle. God he’s HOT!

      • Sunny says:

Both are hot but McAvoy is the best! I went to the screening of his film with Jessica Chastain at TIFF and he was AMAZING during the Q & A. He was so candid and funny, and generous about his costars. I love him even more now.

  10. Harpreet says:

I am not American, but is it ok they are using the JFK assassination (on the 50h anniversary) to promote the film?

    • Migdalia says:

There were a lot of people thinking it was poor timing to release this so close to the 50th anniversary even if it passed.

    • Lunchcoma says:

The timing isn’t great. Other than that, it’s not such a big deal – lots of other works incorporate those events.

  11. Becks says:

Thank you Kaiser for this Fassy fix! He’s sooo dreamy. Sigh. This made my day 🙂

  12. Angel May says:

Kinda tacky to use the Kennedy assassination for marketing, Disney/ Marvel.

Ex- boyfriend Fassy looks good. Don’t turn on him, guys.

  13. Camille (TheOriginal) says:

I don’t care what Fassy is like in r/l (unless of course he did something criminal, then no thanks, but then that goes for any actor I have a crush on). I think he’s a brilliant actor, has lots of charisma and is a damn fine looking man.
You lot can have The Avengers, Iron Man and anything starring that weasel faced Hiddleston or lizard faced Cumbersnatch. I’ll happily be a Fassy fan :).

  14. Blue says:

That was pretty interesting. Fassy is going to be great in this like he is in everything. I can’t wait to see how they mix the modern and old versions of the characters together.

  15. St says:

Well now we finally know the truth about that bent bullet. This explains everything. And it’s the most plausible version to date. How else could that happened? Only if Magneto used his powers to turn it 🙂
