Lupita Nyong’o in a ‘Nairobi Blue’ custom Prada at the Oscars: princess pretty?

wenn21145494

Here she is, our new Hollywood princess. I saw that Lupita Nyong’o was our most discussed winner last night. I hope it’s because people love her, because I love her and I love that she had her moment. She has behaved with elegance and class throughout this entire process and she’s just a joy. Life is better with some Lupita.

Lupita wore this custom-made Prada gown. My mother didn’t like it. Some of you thought Lupita shouldn’t have gone with a plunging neckline because she’s so small up top, but I think that’s why the plunging neckline works. If she had noticeable boobage, the dress would have looked tacky, but she’s so small-chested, it works. Incidentally, I’ve made the same argument about Duchess Kate’s pre-duchess styles – Kate used to favor plunging deep V-necks too, and I always said that it worked on her without looking tacky because she was (and is) so small-chested.

I loved the color – there weren’t that many women wearing light blue, so Lupita stood out even more. Lupita said the color reminded her of home. Some people are calling the color “Nairobi Blue” which… is apt and amazing. And I just felt like I immediately understood the look she was trying to achieve: the prodigal ingénue, the newcomer princess. And it worked. For me, at least. I loved the way she played with her skirt and I loved that you could tell that SHE thought she looked great. The dress gave her confidence and that’s what made the look really work.

A word about Lupita’s jewelry: she was decked out in Fred Leighton. The headband was gold and diamond, her earrings were rose-cut diamond spiked crescents, she wore a 19th century snake bracelet (gold and diamond) and three rings from Fred Leighton, including a yellow gold frog (for good luck – she’s said that frogs are very lucky for her).

I’m also including some photos of Lupita’s dress change for the parties. I can’t find the designer ID anywhere, so give me a heads up when you guys see it. Her party dress is okay – I’m not in love with it, but it’s a fine party look.

The pale ice blue next to her skin was Divine!!!

    What a class act.

    • Juliette says:

Lupita dancing with Pharrell to “Happy” – by far my favorite moment of the night.

This dress would have been beautiful on anyone, but Lupita made it iconic. Get ready: this look from Lupita is going to unilaterally bring back the headband.

      • danielle says:

So far, for me, the best of the night. She really stood out from the crowd, and I love how she styled the dress the bracelet and headband were perfect.

      • Liberty says:

I know, I loved that sweet moment with Pharrell! Yay her. And she was utterly gorgeous, that gown and the headband were the perfect choice, in my opinion. She mixed joy with elegance… and then, that heartfelt graceful speech.

This is one of my all-time favorite Oscar looks now. So happy for her.

      • Ray says:

And here I was worrying she wouldn’t top her BAFTA dress (I adored the colour)
Ps can we talk about how much more graceful and elegant she is that Jennifer Lawrence, I found JLaw so rude and crass when hosting last night, turned me off her so much.

    • SonjaMarmeladova says:

Why does she always wear such low necklines? Her chest is way to bony for that. The dress was okay, I really liked the headband and I almost cried when she won.

      • FLORC says:

I like the headband too. Deep necklines do her no favors.

      • MG says:

I loved the dress but I agree…her chest is a little too bony…somewhat unflattering. But who cares…she’s amazing!!!

      • Tessy says:

I didn’t like the dress either. The plunging V didn’t suit her, but then it suits very few people. I hate it, its so passe. I didn’t mind the colour and she looked so pretty in spite of the awful dress.

      • MCraw says:

Aww I thought she looked great, plunging neckline and all. The blue was so light, I wasn’t sure how I felt, but seeing how it moved so beautifully, it grew on me. Especially her accessories.

The neckline works on a girl with a small chest like her. If she had big boobs, it would’ve been Kim K trashy. But maybe a little more weight so her chest isn’t so bony? Meh, it still worked and softened how harsh her chest bone can sometimes seem.

      • Meredith says:

I don’t like the neckline because I think a plunging to the belly button neckline distracts from the dress and Lupita herself. Can’t a woman be considered lovely (and Lupita is) without flashing her chest?

      • Fan says:

Lupita’s chest is too bony for this dress. It seems like she could wear a potato sack and this site would love it. On the other hand if Jennifer Lawrence wore a perfect dress she would be criticized.

  2. wtf says:

    **swoon***

  3. LadyMTL says:

Add me to the list of those who thinks the fit on top isn’t ideal. I know that someone with a smaller chest can get away with these kinds of deep plunges but this dress made Lupita look like she had no breasts at all; a friend of mine texted me and said it made her look like she had pecs. It was nice to see her do something other than her simple column dresses so I’ll give her props for that.

Also, I do love the color on her, and I think the headband is cute.

    • Lily says:

I loved the dress overall and its a beautiful color, but I don’t understand why she tapes her breasts down so much in low cut dresses in her other outfits she is small but not that small. Chest bone is not attractive.

      • janie says:

I love the color on her, she looks lovely in a pastel. I don’t think it fits well at the top. She’s gorgeous in the color. Not sure about the headband? Congrats to her win, she deserved it!

      • Denise says:

I love Lupita so much and have a massive girl crush on her, but not even she can get away with that Iggy Pop-looking chest, I’m afraid. Chest bone, that’s exactly what we’re looking at and it’s very distracting for all the wrong reasons.

    • Nighty says:

I agree.. the top doesn’t work for her… though the colour is pretty…

    • Audrey says:

My husband honestly asked if she was transgender 🙁

      • AG-UK says:

OH noooo. She and her brother look so much alike as well.

      • Audrey says:

Yeah I was surprised since I’m on here every day so I know her and her body type

He had never seen her before so he was just looking at her muscles and thought her boobs were actually pecs

      • aang says:

same here. her chest is very manly looking for that neckline

      • TG says:

Your husband isn’t alone, I have wondered that too, but regardless I think she is graceful and beautiful. I just wonder wtf went on at the press conference when some guy from a Mexican press told her that the Mexican Academy (not sure there is even such a thing) has claimed her as their own and so he asked her what part of her Oscar belongs to them or gets credit for it and she looked stunned and she shot him down by resonding that all of it belongs to her and then she gave him the best look that told him to shut it. I wonder if anyone else saw that and has further insight into what that was all about.

      • cr says:

TG, she was born in Mexico, her father was teaching there at the time, and lived there again as a teenager. Apparently she has dual Mexican/Kenyan citizenship, so perhaps that’s what the reporter is referring to. Though it’s probably more likely he was just being an ass.

      • Tulip Garden says:

Well since we’re dishing on what husbands had to say, mine didn’t watch the show but he did wonder in and out. He stopped when he saw Lupita and said what a beautiful dress and woman. I agree and then I gushed a bit about her grace. Now I’ve never seen 12 years but you don’t need to see that in order to be impressed with Lupita’s presence and demeanor.

      • bns says:

        Ugh.

      • TG says:

@CR – Thanks for the clarification about Lupita’s Mexican roots. I guess that makes a bit more since that that reporter asked that question but it was still awkward, but Lupita handled it well. She actually was very good at answering stupid questions and sublty letting the questioner know they are stupid. She wasn’t rude to anyone, but rather than play along with their dumb questions she just answered simply and exactly how she felt. Some other stars should take note on how to be confident, elegant and still come off as a nice person when putting idiots in their place.

      • jj says:

I rather see Lupita’s bony chest that Kim Kardashians extended curves!

        Lupita looked gorgeous!

        http://31.media.tumblr.com/42d4e477fb763145826e35b08f79fe79/tumblr_n1u6fmt5b31qhhxd4o1_400.png

      • Sham says:

You can see she is all female, yes she don’t have much boobs, but she’s beautiful!!!!

    • In 12YAS, you saw her naked chest briefly–she doesn’t take her breasts down. She just has small breasts…..

      • Kay says:

Big mistake going with a neckline that deep, very unattractive

      • Liv says:

I don’t know why everyone’s fussing about her breasts. Her body is thin and toned, I think she looks very natural and pretty.

  4. Tapioca says:

Love the blue dress, love that she won, hate the hair band. You are not eight years’ old!

    • Liv says:

Love the dress, too, and also hate the (kind of) matching hairband. It would have been fine in a different color in my opinion. Anyway, this was her night. I’m really excited which projects she picks next.

  5. smee says:

She’s young enough to wear something that “princessy”. She looks lovely. With her figure, that plunging neckline does not look vulgar in any way. I’m thrilled she won an Oscar. She really set the bar for next year.

    • Audrey says:

      She’s in her 30’s….

People say Taylor Swift is too old for these so I definitely think lupita is too

      • Megan says:

that dress wasn’t princessy at all. It was a classic evening dress glamour. It was obvious Lupita felt like a princess but who could blame her.

This dress was elegant enough (especially how she styled it) that you could see many actresses in it.

      • Lemon says:

Definitely in the minority here, but I wasn’t a fan of this dress. I thought it was boring and ill-fitting at the top, and that she has looked much better in more interesting dresses at previous events. Love the color, but not much else.

  6. Kiddo says:

That dress is really pretty. I like the plunge on her in this style. I hated the bronze/gold dress with the criss-cross and odd cut-off, this is different. She looks like a Greek-Goddess, maybe Athena.

  7. Ice Maiden says:

I didn’t like this dress on Lupita (and don’t get me started on the headband!) It IS a beautiful dress, but the colour and style do nothing for Lupita – this kind of ‘princessy’ look would be better on, say, Zhang Ziyi or Taylor Swift. Lupita looks so much better in structured, fitted gowns, and the pale blue doesn’t suit her gorgeous skin tone – jewel colours are so much more stunning on her. I think she should have worn this to the GG and kept the emerald green dress she wore there for her big Oscar’s night.

    • Serene says:

Ice Maiden, totally feeling you on that emerald dress she wore to GG. It was fantabulous! That green and gold against her skin – here comes a cliche – simply breathtaking!

I’d have loved that to have been her Oscar dress. Glad someone else agrees with me.

  8. Katren says:

    Whoa she looks amazing!!!

  9. blue marie says:

No, no, no why does this seem like regression? I mean, I get it’s her first Oscars but.. the princess party dress is not working for me. I dunno, the colors great but I’m a bit disappointed.

    • V4real says:

+1 and she needs to put the headband trend to bed already. Happy she won though.

    • Marty says:

I was pretty meh about this dress when I first saw it, but it really started to grow on me when I saw it in motion.

    • Nicolette says:

Agree. She’s been looking fantastic throughout awards season, and this is a disappointment. Far from the grand finale of fashion it should have been.

    • pru says:

It was a beautiful dress, and I think she genuinely felt beautiful in it. It just didn’t seem like her style.

  10. Deb says:

The color and skirt were great. The top was AWFUL.

  11. Lucy2 says:

I don’t think plunging necklines are necessarily the best look on her, but the color was beautiful, she looked gorgeous, and she clearly loved her dress.

  12. len says:

The headband may have made it a bit too girly-princessy. I don’t know, i’m still trying to figure out if I like it. I think overall it was too childish looking.

  13. paola says:

Only a small breasted girl can pull that low cut off and even if Lupita is a teensy bony in that area she was just a joy to watch. I didn’t like the headband though.. but nothing to complain about, her best accessory was her gorgeous smile and her reaction to the win was just priceless. Pure joy.

  14. Mia4S says:

Win was truly deserved, speech was lovely, dress was blah. Well 2 out of 3 ain’t bad!

  15. Sandra says:

I’m not a fan of this dress. I agree that it showed how muscly she was and my friends spent the whole time she was on screen talking about her muscles instead whatever she was saying.

She seems like she’s dressing like a little girl sometimes, like the headband, and it’s weird because she’s in her thirties.

  16. emmie_a says:

Lupita is the one who called it “Nairobi Blue” because she said the color reminded her of Nairobi.

She looks good but I’m not crazy about either of her dresses.

  17. BendyWindy says:

I loved the dress, hated the color. The pastel was too…flat somehow. I think an electric blue would have been better. Her acceptance speech was lovely.

  18. KAS says:

Loved it, she looked stylish and fun.

  19. Audrey says:

I was really disappointed with everything but the color.

The neckline was awful and poorly fit. The side boob bits kept awkwardly bending and making her look weirdly shaped. And the bottom seemed overwhelming on such a small lady.

Her makeup and jewelry were nice but wish she would have passed on the 10 year old girl headband

  20. AG-UK says:

I loved the colour/fabric and design of the dress but it plunged too low for her body type to me anyway.

  21. Splinter says:

Personally I don’t like these tops, not on her not on Amy Adams for Globes, not Claire Danes for Emmy awards. I hate when the triangles go down to waist, they don’t flatter anyone.

  22. Serene says:

Like I said in another post somewhere….not feeling this dress.

I feel like Lupita is a style goddess but this look is underwhelming and a tad bit disappointing! I was really looking forward to her Oscar fashion game and it turns out to be average…..for Lupita to do mediocre! Nooooo!!

But, again, I’m extremely happy she won so there’s that 😉

  23. QQ says:

I Liked the dress and It was occasion and age appropriate but it didn’t bring it as hard as one would have expected from The Lupita

    • Kiddo says:

I agree that she could have made a stronger statement in color or design, but I don’t begrudge her wanting to be an ethereal goddess/princess at her first Academy Awards, and so be it, KWIM? What little I saw last night, her face was pure confectionery perfection.

  24. Rhea says:

Very princessa look. Love the colour and the headband. Glad she’s not matching her eyeshadow colour with her dress as usual last night. Not too crazy with the deep neckline but still so much better than her second dress for the after party.

  25. Chinoiserie says:

I think more people should wear baby blue, it looks good against the red carpet.

  26. chloe says:

Not a huge fan of the top, but I loved the flow of the bottom. She gave a beautiful speech, I’m still a little shocked by Liza Minnelli grabbing her right after she won, it was kind of a WTF moment.

    • len says:

You could tell Lupita was like ‘wait a minute, I have alot of people I would like to grab right now, and you are not really one of them, but thank you..’

  27. mal23 says:

I hate the hairband and I think the dress is pretty boring. I think plunging v-necks work best on small chests, but this particular one isn’t flattering on her. I wish she’d saved the red dress for the Oscars, honestly. But I’m SO happy she won!

  28. Celia says:

I like the color but it looks a bit too princessy to me considering she’s in her thirties. Would have been more appropriate to someone like Taylor Swift or Selena Gomez imo.

The red carpet in general was pretty much a snooze this year.

  29. lady mary. says:

loved this dress , it looked even more beautiful in motion ,there are couple of pics where she is almost twirling ,making that fabric look all floaty and dreamy ,she reminded me of those disney princesses,i think it was Cindrella who had a similiar blue gown and her speech was so thoughtful, eloquent and precise ,i hope those hollywood morons give her more opportunities ,i nvr had the guts to watch 12 YAS ,but damn that one clip of Lupita from the movie where they showed her beggin Fassy’s character just to wash herself was more than enuff to kill all that argument abt who was the winner in that category ,can’t blieve ppl were actually talking abt not givin her an award bcoz her character ws one that naturally garnered sympathy ,no,, Lupita earned it fair and square .

  30. Marianne says:

I loved the dress. But I didn’t like the headband.

  31. Ladyray says:

The dress looks better in motion. Kaiser, here’s a picture that has been making the rounds on twitter…she just looks beautiful there.

    http://cdn.necolebitchie.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Lupita-Nyongo-Oscars-Red-Carpet.jpg

  32. Sonya says:

Personally I loved the dress, it was beautiful and moved well. I think that the blue was lovely on her but a light yellow would have been STUNNING. I didn’t like the headband, or maybe it was the hairstyle with the band. I thought is seemed kind of last minute… She was so sweet, I am so glad she won. Her speech had me in tears again and again as I thought about it all night. The final line, “Your dreams are valid.” I just can’t shake that deep and honest feeling of gratefulness that came from her. Truly beautiful.

  33. I HATE the headband, but other than that, she looks perfect. I loved this gown on her.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I loved it, too. It moved beautifully and I thought it suited her. I didn’t even mind the headband, and that’s not usually my thing.

VC hope you’re feeling better today.

  34. Kenyan247 says:

Am kenyan who actually lives in Kenya and our country has shut down b/c she won.she is amazing at that and we are so proud, hell, people actually waited for the Oscars last night, for the first time ever!!the dress was exquisite though we would have loved a little meat on her chest but she is OUR LUPITA,she can do no wrong!!we are actually calling this mondat a LupitaDay!!you know what they say,Africa may be the poorest continent but we are the happist people and we know when and how to celebrate!!…*blows confetti & breaks into a dance*

    • Kiddo says:

      That’s really sweet.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Yay! So happy for her and for you!

    • yennefer says:

I was moved when I heard her saying about your dreams being valid no matter where you’re from… I know it was her and Kenyan people celebration, but I felt she was speaking to much wider group of people – everyone who is limited by a place they live in and feels that their dreams are impossible to come true… I felt like she was speaking to me. That was my definitely too emotional moment of the night, but I’m not ashamed. She is my role model now.

I feel so happy for her and for all the people in her motherland! Cheers!

  35. Jayna says:

I loved loved the flowing gown on her and the color was stunning and I loved the headband. I agree on the cut of the bodice. She has a bony chest, and that wasn’t the most flattering But from afar, looking at the whole dress on her from head to toe, not just a shot from the waist up, I thought she looked lovely, fresh and young yet glamorous.

  36. MynameisPeaches! says:

I loved the colour of the dress but we’ve seen this kind of column dress before. I can’t with the headband, too much jewellery too. However, Lupita looked very beautiful and I think she was going for the princess look and succeeded. No shame in that.

  37. RedWeatherTiger says:

I think she looked absolutely and perfectly beautiful, head to toe. I just love her.

    • Tx says:

Me too. I loved it all!

    • NerdMomma says:

I’m with you! I love the princess gown, I love the twirl, I think the headband looks amazing and elegant. I think she knocked this out of the park and rocked a memorable look.

But oh my god her face… she has the most breathtakingly beautiful face. I think Lupita and Angelina Jolie are two women who can wear paper sacks and they’d still look amazing. I want them to become BFFs and pose together everywhere.

    • phlyfiremama says:

Thank you. She is SO BEAUTIFUL~did you catch the picture on Lainey where she is talking to Cumby, The Jolie, Chiwetal, and Brad? Holy moly the looks of happiness on all their faces is stunning. Someone write some hot fan fic about the Jolie & Lupita!! 😉

  38. Mrs. Darcy says:

I keep trying but I can’t get on board with this. These pics are actually pretty ok compared to some I have seen that demand a rib count. It’s just her body type, she has bony chest syndrome and should never have been put in this dress imo. The earrings look clunky but I’m grateful for the headband because it draws the eye to her pretty face and away from the scrawny sternum. I do like the colour and the skirt is Oscar appropriate, this just would have been so much prettier with a different decolletage.

  39. Sabrina says:

I like her dress, but expected more from her. The colour is gorgeous, though.

Her other dress is Miu Miu.

  40. queenfreddiemercury says:

While I’m not a huge fan of the neckline I’m giving it a pass because the way she looked when she walked up those stairs to accept her award —OMG like a fairy Princess. I love it. The color is fabulous. But any color on her is.

  41. Ann says:

I thought she looked awful considering how great she looked all season. The neckline looks truly terrible on her, I’m not on board with the headband and the color also isn’t working for me.

  42. Renee28 says:

I’m not a fan of the dress. It would look nice on someone younger going to prom but it’s too young and princessy for her. And I dislike the headband.

  43. Val says:

It’s a fabulous color and overall a nice dress…but the top is a disaster! No one said she needs to be a double D to pull it off, even with small breasts it would have still looked classy and stylish. This neckline simply does not work for her. It makes her look bony and defines her flat chest and it just really takes away from the beauty of the dress.

  44. BeckyR says:

Her attire was absolute perfection. She looked stunning!

  45. Ice Queen says:

Gorgeous. She and Cate Blanchett looked like goddesses!

  46. Suzy from Ontario says:

Loved it. The colour was striking against her skin and I thought she looked absolutely beautiful. She’s incredibly pretty.

  47. LAK says:

The dress photographs better than it looked. I was completely underwhelmed by it in motion.

  48. Mandy says:

Gah, everytime I see her in this dress it makes me want to cry! She is just that stunning.

  49. Ashley says:

So in all honesty where does her career go from here. I mean I like her but and people say she’s the JLaw of this year which I disagree with. I mean sure she’s charming and all but this is Hollywood they barely have roles for women let alone women of color. And it kills me but she would still have to deal with colorism on top of racism. I mean I can’t wait to see where she is in two years.

    • Josephina says:

Soooooooo…are you saying you cannot see her playing someone’s love interest? Perhaps a sassy detective? I could easily see her in a suspense or drama film, not just a period piece of the 1800s.

Denzel Washington and Sidney Poitier are also dark skinned. And somehow, they have been able to land roles not necessarily based on their color, but on their talent.

Angela Basset, also a fellow Yale University graduate, has had success as well.

I am not dismissing that Hollywood has race issues. I am pointing out that she seems to have the intestinal fortitude to go through the fire as others before her have.

  50. shellybean says:

Lupita looked beautiful. I really loved her dress. She’s a tad bony through the chest area, but I still liked the overall look on her. She is just so pretty. I had no idea she was 31 years old. She looks like she’s 21. Gorgeous.

  51. Megan says:

This was the best look of the night. Everything was perfect, and I was so happy she won, her speech made me tear up.

I also loved how excited she was to be there with the Pharrell dancing, the selfie and turning down the pizza.

Love her and so excited to see what she does next acting wise but last night locked her in as a fashion icon.

  52. Grant says:

My favorite look of the night. I love her in a jewel tone but that color might have taken away from the effervescence of this gown. She just looked exquisite and I was so happy that she won. Seeing her and her brother just made my night.

  53. Musi says:

Okay okay thank you lupita for embracing us with your grace. Now I hope Hollywood gives her roles

  54. Lucy says:

You could tell she was having lots of fun in that dress, and that she knew she looked stunning. I’m so happy for her!!!

  55. Tina says:

What a beautiful woman. Love her look. 🙂

  56. Maritza says:

She really stood out in that dress, in a good way and her speech made me cry. Lupita is so likeable.

  57. Maggie says:

Loved the dress but it wore her, she didn’t wear it!

  58. Plenty says:

Classy cleavage, amazing dress, very nice colour.

Her skin absolutely gorgeous, stunningly beautiful.

I really did not like the headband, earrings and her hairstyle.

Pearl stud earrings and pearl bracelets with her great skin would have looked much better.

    • shamgar50 says:

What cleavage? The dress looked dumb on her, and her accessorizing was horrible.

      • Samantha says:

        @shamgar50

My point is that her cleavage is classy, because she is small chested and I like seeing smaller boobs in a dress with large opening.

To me big boobs not hanging out looks classy.

She would have been perfection without that headband, earrings and the half shaved hairstyle.

I think her skin that is so amazingly beautiful would have been even more so with some pearl stud earrings and pearl bracelets.

Pearls and her skin = stunning skin.

      • Tutu says:

Again, why didn’t the JEWELERS come up with some BETTER gems for her?! She’s a winner all the way. These people dropped the ball in the accessories department and I guess Lupita just trusted them to be the experts — but c’mon! Use common sense, folks. Put some lace, or ruffles, or frills, or drape her chest and give her some REAL diamonds and bling! I’ve OFTEN thought she needed more expensive jewelry with ALL her outfits that I’ve seen. I honestly could’ve dressed her MUCH better altho she still managed to be GORGEOUS and STUNNING to the MAX!

Lupita Nyong’o, beautiful woman, beautiful dress, but not together. Cover her face in the frontal shots, and you’d swear it was a teenage boy. Not the right body for that dress.

    • Ladyray says:

shamgar, you might disagree that the dress is not fit for her but to reference her body to a teenage boy is insulting to other women shaped just like her.

SMH. Thank God she doesn’t seem to care about those comments. I applaud her for not give a damn and showing her “bony chest”.

I wished more people had courage like that.

  60. MissNostalgia says:

Liked the color, not the dress. I am glad that she won and I hope that her career has staying power as so many of these very young winners tend not to get traction after they win “the Oscar”.

  61. idk says:

It’s actually called “duck egg blue”. They mentioned this during a pre-oscar show. But Lupita did mention the color reminded her of Nairobi.

  62. KateBush says:

I loved this look, women come in all shapes and sizes and she looks toned and athletic. Her chest reminds me of Grace Jones’ on the cover of her album nightclubbing a photo I’ve always loved.
I think I would have preferred a stronger colour on her and didn’t like the headband.

I saw her being interviewed by Ryan Seacrest and she seems absolutely lovely- so poised and graceful. Now I have to watch this movie!!

  63. Nymeria says:

She’s playing a game, and judging by the general reaction, she’s playing it very well. The fresh-faced, innocent, youthful Hollywood princess-darling.

That dress is cut way, way too low. The absurdly low cut spoils what otherwise would have been an elegant, ethereal look. This is stripper meets Old Hollywood.

    • Tessy says:

If it was cut the same as her after party dress it would have been gorgeous. As it is though, it detracts from everything else about her.

  64. Pinky says:

Love the skirt, hate the top part. Anybody has a photo of the shoes?
I prefer her look at the Golden Globes.

  65. Organicrosehipoil says:

Amazing skin, great dress, love the blue. Nice cleavage, she has a bit bony chest, but it works with her small breasts.
Hate the headband and the rest of the jewellery.

  66. Nycgirl says:

    Love, love love her skin.

Nice to see a woman not applying her make up with a showel.

Great dress, lovely colour and the skirt part is amazing.

Really bad accessories, especially that weird headband.

Luminous and gorgeous skin is the best part to me.

I love that her breast are small, nice athletic, healthy and small body.

  67. Isadora says:

I think the dress is very pretty and she is very pretty, but just… not together. Really, I think it’s rather horrible, sorry, and I can’t understand why everybody gushes how lovely and whatnot. I think her sternum/bony chest is a real turnoff with the plungy neckline. It was the first thing I noticed about her and that’s just wrong – you should better notice her good figure or beautiful face.

And I don’t think it’s just a problem of small breasts because Kate Hudson isn’t exactly busty either and had a deep plunge, but she’s just not as slender and bony.

  68. Camille (The Original) says:

I think she looked absolutely divine. Perfection from head to toe.

She was my best dressed at the Oscars, then Cate, then Sandra B and then Jolie.

  69. Londonclub says:

Her skin is phenomenal, not a pore in sight.

  70. Lisa says:

Beautiful dress, and I think plunging necklines look better on small chests.

  71. Meggin says:

She looks gorgeous but her ribs are sticking out a bit too much. I think that’s why Ellen joked about her not eating pizza!

  72. Sarah says:

Low V-Necks to bony chests are absolutely the worst kind of combination!!! You honestly should at least have some proper boobs to come forward with such a dress. I honestly don’t get that kinda choice. On Kaiser’s comment about this kinda dress getting tacky with boobs… Before it gets tacky, there comes A-Cup, B-Cup and C-Cup and maybe the beginning of a D-Cup. And it gety tacky in case you have Pamela Anderson-esque pointy boobs that were a natural A-B but got blown up out of proportion. Think about Charlize Theron or Jennifer Lawrence wearing that dress… would have been awesome. Not so much on Lupita though I usually agree a lot with her style.

  73. kristiner says:

I don’t see how it was custom. Looks JUST like Natalie Portman’s dress from the 2004 Oscars. The one where she was nominated for Closer.

Her dress was Lavin and see through but same concept pretty much.

  74. Abby says:

I loved her look and the flowy bottom and the color—just everything. Gorgeous.

  75. Kosmos says:

She really rocked her last two red carpet dresses (bright red) and now this one. I so love it when someone can dress without overdoing it. Sleek and simple is best, in my mind, but I saw some fairly ugly choices walking the red carpet. With this lovely blue dress, my only negative comment would be that I personally wouldn’t wear that low a cut with such a flat chest. To me, it just emphasizes her flat chest. I also hate the opposite, when women wear a low cut, with huge implants, and all you really see are breasts, not the person first.

  76. Lauraq says:

I must confess to not having seen 12 Years a Slave. But she is a beautiful woman, and she is owning that gown. I agree-she owns it BECAUSE she has no boobs.

  77. Jenna says:

The dress did her no favors. Her chest was too bony and masculine to make the plunging neckline look good. Her hair looked terrible this time around and the headband was ridiculous. The bottom of the dress was nice, but the waist up was a disaster. It made her look too masculine.
