Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt want to get matching tattoos ahead of their wedding

AES-128130

Several years ago, Angelina Jolie did a photoshoot with Vanity Fair where she wore something like hot pants, revealing her toned thighs. That was notable, but even more so because there seemed to be a never-before-seen tattoo on her right inner thigh. There were some conspiracies and long story short, the Brangeloonies believe that Angelina’s thigh tattoo reads “Whiskey Bravo.” As in, W-B for William Bradley (Pitt). So, it would seem that Angelina already has Brad inked on her body in a significant (and charming) way. But Radar’s sources think Angelina and Brad are going to get more significant ink ahead of their wedding:

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are getting matching tattoos for their upcoming wedding, Radar has learned. The superstar couple are deciding “with what and where they will ink themselves to mark their long-awaited marriage,” a source told Radar.

“Brad really wants to do something special, and frankly, a little weird to mark the occasion, and they want to get the exact same design, in the exact same spot in their bodies.”

Pitt, 50, and Jolie, 38, share a love of body art, but according to the source, the actor’s fascination with tattoos “took a big leap” once they finally got engaged in 2012.

“Brad is like a teenager again as he and Angelina decide on their matching tattoos,” the source said. “He’s let Angelina help him pick out tatts in the past but this time it’s a real collaboration. Don’t expect it to be something that’s visible when they’re out day to day. They might just acknowledge to the press that they did it, but keep the actual content of the tattoos as their love secret.”

The 12 Years a Slave actor and producer reportedly has at least nine tattoos, including one of Oetzi the Ice Age caveman on his left arm and Jolie’s birth date in written in Khmer on his stomach.

Jolie has more than a dozen examples of body art, including the geographical coordinates of their six children and a tiger tattoo on her lower back.

Pitt has begun bringing tattoo magazines into his Los Angeles office, “and leaving them in the lobby when he’s done with them, just so he can see if any designs capture visitors’ imaginations,” the source said.

[From Radar]

What I’ve always liked about Angelina’s ink in particular is that she generally puts some thought into it and – especially over the past eight years or so – she’s gotten ink that is really significant to her, like her children’s birth coordinates or the “M” tattoo (which is probably for her mom and/or Maddox) or the Whiskey Bravo tatt, which I still think is super-cute. Brad’s tattoos are blah… so I hope he doesn’t get to pick them. He should just let Angelina choose.

I can’t help finding matching tattoos beyond tacky.

    • V4Real says:

Radar sources says, I guess Shiloh has been running her mouth again. 🙂

    • MisJes says:

      ITA, Tanguerita.

    • Lucky Charm says:

I don’t find it tacky at all, I actually think it’s sweet. For Mother’s Day one year, my daughter and I got matching tattoos. It was special and meaningful to us. The only tattoos that I think are tacky are the generic cartoonish ones that people get just because all their friends are inked.

  2. Happyhat says:

Dang – I never actually paid attention to what her tattoos actually were. That’s some good tattooing, and the Whisky Bravo thing is such a good idea!

  3. Seapharris7 says:

They’re a brand at this point, whether they even get married doesn’t even matter. Their names are forever linked.

    • Andrea1 says:

Yea a family forever! Whether they remain together or not 😉

    • hmmmmmmmmm says:

They are a family, not a brand.

      • bns says:

        They’re both.

      • lisa2 says:

        @bns.

that “brand” label is used by people that like to demean their relationship as not being real. As if they are together for PR. So NO they are not a “brand” they are a couple with a family. Not different than anyone one else.

  4. doofus says:

huh…I thought I remember reading that they had gotten matching tats, but didn’t say where or what.

I’ve heard of a lot of couples that do this…the obvious one is tattooed wedding “rings”.

    • BNA Fn says:

They did get matching tattoos when Angelina went to Australia directing UnBroken and Brad was filming Fury. Angelina’s tattoo is inside her right lower arm. Brads tattoo is on the inside of his right upper arm. Fans on on BF were trying to find out the meaning of these tattoos and the closest they came was something about meeting again. Also, Brad did get a tattoo with his family initials, A, M, P, Z, S, K, V ON his right wrist.

  5. I’d actually kinda believe this–or that they already have. Who’s to say that Brad hasn’t gotten something similar, but hasn’t done a photoshoot that shows it?

Also–Angelina’s tattoos are so cool….I love the idea of the coordinates of your kids’ birthdates, she also has Brad’s birthdate coordinated–which I think is a better version of getting some dude’s name inked on your shoulder (cough, BILLY BOB, cough)….

I didn’t know Brad had any tattoos until I watched him on Oprah, after the twins were born. Some absolute CREEPER STALKER fan, started detailing ALL of his tattoos (it was a woman)–it was downright embarrassing.

How do you skype to a recorded tv show, and proceed to tell that celeb that you have all of their tattoos memorized….ugh, second hand embarrassment.

    • Artemis says:

Yes, I love Jolie’s tattoos too. They’re my kind of tats!

Looking them up, the only ones I don’t like are cross tattoo that hides that cute dragon (she’s not even religious and it’s too clunky) and the tribals (just…no). The Billy Bob tattoo was unfortunate but I did love the dragon although the coordinates she covered it with are more beautiful.

In a weird way, I love it that she removed/covered some because while she’s fearless, she ain’t dumb and she knows some of them were mistakes (Billy Bob) or didn’t fit with her life anymore (death tattoo).

Her best tats are by far the tiger and Maddox’s Khmer prayer. Aesthetics, placement, meaning. Perfection.

      • I thought she got rid of the cross–I remember it was huge….

But I do love pretty much all of her tattoos–they’re all cool and have meaning–I think I like the Buddhist prayer one the best….it’s just a sweet thing for her new son.

      • Bella says:

Correction….what you describe as Maddox’s prayer is a common tattoo in Buddhism, it’s done by bamboo as opposed to needle gun and the actual name of the Khmer verse she has is “sak yant ha thaew” which means five sacred lines. I have the same one, they are considered protective amulets when placed on the left shoulder and millions have this popular inking. Mine was also done by a Thai Buddhist, but not the monk who did AJ’s at Wat Pho in Bangkok…..

      • Artemis says:

        @VC

Last time I saw it was when she was pregnant with Shiloh and her belly was so big her shirt crept up.

        @Bella

Yeah I knew about the first part. I didn’t explain it well enough 🙂 I didn’t know about the popularity and the left shoulder thing though so thanks for that!

That must have been a great experience! I would love to have a traditional tattoo done by a monk. Maybe some day.

  6. Toniko says:

I think Brad’s tummy tattoo – Angelina birthday in Khmer- is pretty cool, and not “blah”.

    • Andrea1 says:

Yea I love that one! Plus the one that has the initials of Angie and all the kids.

    • Artemis says:

That’s the only one that’s nice. Most of his tattoos consist of lines, super tiny script and…Oetzi. And I know Jolie drew the lines and it has meaning for them but lines? That’s the equivalent of friends drawing dumb shit on your hand and getting emotionally attached to it. Only these children took it on another level and made it permanent.

Jolie’s tattoos are actually cool and they are tattoos that I would want and Pitt’s tattoos are the worst IMO.

      • I read that the lines were some kind of blue print for the houses that his foundation had built in New Orleans…..something like that….which I thought was sorta cool.

      • Kim1 says:

Most of his tattoos consists of lines ? Really? I have seen only ONE tattoo that consists of lines on his lower back.Where are the others?

      • Artemis says:

@VC: I have a ‘rating’ system for tattoos (my first tattoo doesn’t even pass the test anymore lmao) and while the meaning in this case would be perfect, the aesthetic and placement are off IMO. And clearly it’s a passionate tattoo for them:

He just liked it! The picture everybody saw was kind of awkward, but it just lines up beautifully on his back, just enhances the part of the body I like.
So it doesn’t mean anything per se.
I mean, it’s meaningful in that it’s us making angles and shapes out of each other’s body, that kind of a thing.”

        @kim1

Quote above is from a BP fansite where I looked up his tattoos. He has four out of nine tattoos (and the calf tattoo look like lines too but I’m not 100% sure) that consist of some type of line design.

The other ones have a line aesthetic too: the quote on his arm is so tiny that it looks like a line. The Oetzi tattoo is the outLINE of a body.He likes his lines.

I’m sure you would be able to find his other tattoos yourself if my reasoning doesn’t ring true to you.

    • Midnight says:

Supposedly he also has Angie’s name written on, about, or above her birthday. It showed in one picture a long time ago and I can’t even remember which one.

  7. Andrea1 says:

Well well well! No more news about Brad and Angie. They seem to be running out of news on this couple every day. No one even knows anything about their wedding for all we know they might even be married already 🙂

  8. Lemon says:

At one point didn’t she have a dragon tattoo on her upper arm? Did she get it removed to put the locations of her kids birthplaces, or did she cover it up with those? Either way, her tattoos always look nice on her…they’re clean-looking and thought out.

    • Andrea1 says:

Yes I agree that they are thought out! They all have meanings.

    • gg says:

She had a dragon and “Billy Bob” on her shoulder/arm. Then she had it lasered, which never totally removes a tattoo, only fades it a lot. You can still see it underneath the geo coordinates list.

      • deliwich says:

Nice try. No, you cannot see the bbt tat – it no longer exists. I’ll explain: after removal procedure, she had ocular white tatted over it destroying whatever was left under a new white tat, then fading/removing that (it’s akin to ‘white out’) – it’s a technique, you can’t even see outlines of former tats, not even remotely because they’ve been obliterated.

  9. Eve says:

I’d be ok if my imaginary husband (Joel Kinnaman) wanted to tattoo my name on his body, but I’d only accept it if it were on his d*ck — and he’d better have a big one because my full Brazilian Portuguese name has 5 words.

  10. Luca26 says:

I have a hunch they are waiting until all of her surgeries are done and she has a clean bill of health before they marry. I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole process was what prompted the engagement even more so to comfort the kids about the surgeries that there would be a wedding at the end of everything. That’s just pure conjecture on my part though.

    • Kitkat says:

This sounds like so much shade. Lol

“A clean bill of health?” You do know Angelina doesn’t have a disease, correct? Do you know how insulting that sounds to both Brad and Angelina? Angelina needs to be ‘clean,’ before they experience the ultimate and most holy of holys, state approved matrimony?? Afterall, if she fails to get ‘clean,’ brad or she, may opt to just continue to date and see other people – ya know, keep it light & casual…except – oops, they’ve already said from day 1 that they’re committed for life and have demonstrated their loved up, pretty dedicated bond for almost a decade. Aw, I guess you forgot, eh? Lol.

You haven’t read any of their interviews have you? They’ve said they’re lifelong committed and that paper has no bearing on that, and they gave 2 scenarios in which they could get married (marriage equality and their kids asking them to), my guess is that they’ve picked one or both of them as reasons to do it now (since they’re engaged).

      • Katherine says:

I may be presumptuous here but I think the poster may have only meant they’d prefer Angie be physically up to celebrating and fully enjoying any wedding festivities they plan and maybe even a honeymoon. It’s nice to be able to toast with champagne or alcohol at one’s wedding and have the energy to dance the night away.

Recovering from surgery can be a bear. Physically and emotionally.

      • doofus says:

Katherine, I’d agree with you, especially considering that (I’m pretty sure) Luca26 is a fan of the Brange.

but as it goes so often, a superfan reads a bit too much into someone’s post, perceiving a negative that’s not there, and has to “correct” the poster.

      • Luca26 says:

I can’t imagine what it’s been like for Angelina to have to face down the same disease that took down many generations of her family . I admire how open and honest she’s been about her surgeries. Zero shade intended.

      • lucy2 says:

Yikes – I don’t think the expression “clean bill of health” has anything to do with being “clean”. My guess is the OP is suggesting AJ might want to get all her medical stuff dealt with and be fully recovered from the surgery before having a wedding.

      • Luca26 says:

Just to clarify I know she doesn’t have cancer (thank god) but having such a high chance of getting cancer is a scary prospect especially when you’ve watched family members pass away.

  11. Aysla says:

Agreed about the awful taste Brad has in tattoos (and locations). I like most of Angie’s, but there were a few that she got on her lower arm that I think look kind of… ehh I don’t know what word I’m looking for– dirty? Not ‘vulgar’-dirty, more like, ‘needs soap and water’-dirty. I don’t have any tattoos, and have never had an interest in getting one… until very, very recently. Somewhere inconspicuous, where even I wouldn’t be able to see it very easily.

Anyone have any tattoos? What kind of designs did you get and where? What’s the story behind it? I’ve become really fascinated by the thought process behind people’s tattoos.

    • Artemis says:

Because they’re so tiny but I bet her arm tattoos look better in real life. Some tattoos don’t photograph well. I guess I just love arm tattoos, I don’t have the courage myself to get the one I want ( a big ass sleeve!).

I got three. Chinese characters (kind of regret it but I don’t want to remove it as it’s part of me and my past) on the back of my neck: inner strength. Because I hated living when I was a teenager and it’s a vow not to harm myself (anymore). ‘angel’ in Persian on my wrist. For people that I lost.
A quote by Anaïs Nin (and the day came when……) in Italian on my rib cage. Because I’m depressed and it’s the perfect expression for how I feel and a perfect way to remind myself that I’m not the only one who feels that way.

      • Aysla says:

I really like the significance and meaning behind your tattoos. I can relate in some ways to your experiences, and see myself getting a tattoo or two with similar sentiments and emotional depth. I think it also makes regret less likely, when you have such a personal story behind it. It’s for that reason that I don’t understand individuals who ink themselves with seemingly no thought behind the process (e.g. all those awful tribal tattoos). It reminds me of my cousin, who got a ridiculously large tattoo of death/the grim reaper on his chest, and then tattooed the name of his newborn son next to it. Why?? He thought it looked ‘badass’, that was all.

I have never read that quote before (by Anais Nin), it’s beautiful. What made you choose those particular languages?

      • Artemis says:

        Aww thank you 🙂

I tend to have several ideas that I write down and contemplate for at least three months. Usually most of them lose their appeal (as they should because good lord; e.g. Snoopy with a heart on my ass when I was 17 😀 ).

So yeah, if you’re the kind of person that wants meaning (believe me, many people don’t) then you’re going to be fine in making a good choice. I tend to go with tattoos that I found spontaneously (besides me 1st one).

‘Why??’ This truth right here. When the answer is empty and dispassionate, you know what’s up!

I’m obsessed with China since I was 14. I saw a documentary about an orphanage and it was heart-wrenching. I made the decision then to travel to China (and other parts of Asia) some day and also that I want to adopt children. I saw the Persian tattoo in a book about body art from the library. I was underage so I couldn’t get tattoos then and years later when I remembered the book, I found it and got the tattoo. It was just striking and very meaningful to me hence why I didn’t forget it. Italian is the most romantic language (and French), which I was studying during that time and I found the quote to be quite romantic in its darkness and hopelessness. After a while, I tend to romanticize depression and thinking it’s part of me so why get better? Maybe I like being miserable you know? Like a bad partner you can’t leave. Twisted emotions 🙂

    • Bella says:

I have 7 tats so far but feel I will always be a work in progress, so to speak. My fave is the small Buddhist eternal love knot on my wrist that my husband and I had done before our Buddhist wedding blessing ceremony in Thailand. As mentioned above, I have sak yant ha thaew on my left shoulder, just like Angelina. Bamboo tats are amazing as they scarcely bleed and heal fully within a few days! Also have an infinity symbol and hubby’s initials on my inside left ankle. A large purple rose with banner on my outer right ankle, a large tribal sun between my shoulder blades, a smaller tribal tramp stamp (ugh!) and a lil dolphin on my right hip/butt. I’ve gotten inked gradually over 18 years, so, much thought went into placement, aesthetic, design and meaning and next up will be a large lotus.

      • Aysla says:

I read your earlier post about the sak yant ha thaew tattoo– do people always get it on their left shoulder? I wonder what the significance is behind that. You have me really intrigued now regarding bamboo tats. Will the large lotus go on your back?

      • Bella says:

Well Aysla, as our heart is on our left, the placement of the sacred lines is intentional on the left shoulder. Each line represents portions of Buddhist prayer and bestows different blessings on the wearer if performed by a monk who recites each yant (chant) 108 times, which creates a state of deep meditative concentration. These beautiful designs can be done by gun and placed anywhere but that defeats the spiritual worth of this ancient art form. Not to mention is considered disrespectful of Buddhism. My lotus will likely be on my back.

  12. Jem says:

And in other news, Jennifer Aniston and Justin WhatsHisFace got matching Beanie Babies ahead of thier wedding, too!

  13. Cecilia says:

I’m going to call BS on this. Sounds like they built a story around a couple tattoo mags that were on the coffee table in Brad’s office.

    • Kim1 says:

      ITA
Then again aren’t all Radaronline stories BS.I can’t recall reading any exclusive from them that was true.Last week they claimed Brad is practically begging to a Judd Apatow film.

  14. bee says:

Brad has another tattoo on his arm. A cross shape with an “A” for Angelina and the first name initials of all their kids.
They also both have new tattoos seen last year on their arms that look almost identical.

  15. Jeanette says:

I have seen 3 blinds about these two cheating. Once was with Miranda Kerr, another when he made that appearance last week, and then her when she was at that c-con event..hmm..wonder if they just have a open relationship?
    The blinds were on cdan.

    • Kim1 says:

CDAN so it must be true
Angelina takes 5 kids to Vegas and still makes time to cheat.# multitasker.I wonder if had a tryst in Sarajevo.See CDAN next week

    • Andrea1 says:

Sorry to say but anyone who believes those blind is highly gullible. If these two were in an open relationship I guess the media would have found something at least! In fact I don’t know why people believe blinds at all. Their chances of being real is 2 out of a 100 percent.

    • bee says:

Oh yes, CDAN the teller of all truths.
People who believe anything from that site are not very bright.

Also how come he never knew anything about her mastectomy, not a thing? All these sources & yet everyone failed to mention her tubes and bandages?

he is fraud catering to the very gullible.

    • Leila says:

If these two were cheating & had an open relationship, these sources would be selling their story to the tabloids for lots of $$$$$$$$, not talking to a blind item website

Why in the world would they talk to this site & not make any money?

Ever think these two just have a normal relationship?

      • Kitkat says:

Don’t be silly, if they’re just a couple that’s head over heels in love and committed to only each other, raising 6 beautiful kids – then Jen is an even bigger loser than we know her to be…so we have to continue to infer that there’s trouble in paradise (or better still, that there is no paradise) that way the target demographic of bitter cat lady jen hens can have peace of mind, if only for a few minutes while reading tabloid covers in the impulse aisle at Walmart.

      • Jeanette says:

I made an observation and then a casual question..no need to be rude and degrading. That really shows how smart you are!

    • Rachel says:

I believe this. They are stuck together because at this point their whole brand is to tied to their couple-dom. They try waaayyyy to hard to show us how in love they are.

      • Leila says:

They would do just fine professionally if they were not a couple. Film offers would be the same no doubt. Most people who go see movies do not follow celeb gossip.

How do they try too hard? I do not see twitters pics from them showing off their love. They do not do daily photo ops for the paps.
        They are rarely seen.

    • The Original G says:

Even CDAN doesn’t stand behind it’s blinds. Read the disclaimer on the bottom of the site.

  16. helen says:

They allready have matching taatos. They have the same sentende in Arabic. Dont know the correct meaning but is something related to the hope they will see each other after death.

  17. Ginger says:

Beware!! I had a matching tat with my now EX husband. He changed his already. Now that I am happily married to my second hubby I’m going to change mine too. Bad enough she had to have Billy Bob lasered off.

    • I think I would only change mine if it was his name–if I ever got a tattoo (most likely not), but if it was a matching one, I wouldn’t care if he still had his or not.

  18. GeeMoney says:

Matching tattoos/inking your lover’s name on your body = bad idea. When are people going to realize this?

  19. ZsaZsa says:

Fair enough if she has all 6 of her children’s names or whatever she has linked to them because they are always going to be her babies. Having a lovers name however is taking a risk. Supposing she splits from him then what? Hasn’t she heard of people who made that mistake?

    She’s supposed to be intelligent

    • But that’s the thing–it’s not his name. It’s sorta his initials ( Whiskey Bravo–William Bradley), and his birth coordinates on her arm, under their kids….it’s a helluva lot better than putting a huge WILLIAM BRADLEY tattoo on her arm, like she did with Billy Bob.

If they ever do end up splitting up, she’d probably have a lot less ‘God, was I an idiot’ moment, than she would’ve if it had been his name.

Plus, they are a huge part of each other’s lives, and I think if they ever split (which, after all the stuff they went through when they got together–like everyone in HW predicting that Brad’s production company was going to FOLD after he got divorced–or her health issues, I don’t really see a split happening, if they went through all that), that they would still be friends (as Angelina is with ALL of her exes), and so she probably wouldn’t regret the tattoos as much–plus they have six kids together.

      • Artemis says:

She’ll just cover them up. She had matching tattoos with JLM (Japanese symbol) and she got it removed. She covered up one that she and BBT designed (lines again). If she can get those innocuous ones erased from her body, I don’t see why BP wouldn’t be lasered off or covered up if they would split up.
She was wilder back then and she still was smart enough to move on, I don’t see current AJ walking around with an obvious ex-partner’s tattoo design.

    • Maggie says:

Well she had to have Billy Bob’s name taken from her arm. I don’t believe this story.

    • helen says:

she has the coordinates of his birthplace on her arm too.

    • Kitkat says:

Matching tats are not the same as inking a name. Also, Angelina was quoted a long time ago, post bbt split and probably long before YOU, saying that she believes name tats are bad luck, which is why she and Brad have codes/symbols/dates/letters for each other. So yeah ZsaZsa, never fear, it looks like she’s still “intelligent.”

  20. helen says:

He really likes to put his hand on her ass.

    • Emma - the JP Lover says:

@ Helen, who wrote: “He really likes to put his hand on her ass.”

      Well, it ‘is’ his. 🙂

  21. bns says:

    He would.

  23. illandri says:

HAHA! My husband’s would be “Juliett Echo Romeo”. How romantical.

  24. murphy says:

Why even bother at this point? They’re already happily boning other people anyway–with each others blessing too!

    • Leila says:

Oh, how do you know that?
Did the liars from CDAN tell you that?
When would they even find the time to have affairs with everything they do?

    • Bea says:

Care to share your proof or is it all from the small minds at FF?

    • Kitkat says:

Troll is trolling, how sweet, a decade and counting, meet you back here in 10 when Maddox is graduating college.

  25. Delta Juliet says:

I remember the article about the Whiskey Bravo tattoo very well, only because that was when I came up with my user name, and I use it on EVERYTHING now because I love it 🙂

  26. nicegirl says:

Was hoping this was an April Fool’s joke, too.

    • Kitkat says:

It would be a weak lame one if so. Two people known for getting tats symbolizing each other, are getting a matching design….((((APRIL FOOL!!))) OMG….they SO had me, I’m shocked and still shaking!!!!!!!

  27. Isadora says:

Does anybody know why Brad has Oetzi on his body? I mean, I think it’s kind of awesome though weird because he has like zero connection to this part of the Alps. Or am I wrong?

    • lisa2 says:

I think (grain of salt) that he thought it was cool because this person lived so long ago. But I think it looks like Lara Croft.. lol

  28. Carmelita says:

    Yawn.

  29. tmbg says:

I hope they stay as they are and don’t get married. Why ruin a good thing? It seems like a lot of long-term Hollywood couples get married and then divorce not long after. I want them to stay together forever, like Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward!

    • lisa2 says:

      Well they were married.

Brad and Angie seem pretty solid. They have had a lot more thrown at them by none fans; the press/media for years. They have managed to keep their relationship going and not let that noise affect them. I don’t think Paul and Joanne had that kind of hate and such thrown at them. It either makes you stronger as a couple or breaks you. I think they have been made stronger by it all.

It apparently didn’t even occur to me that Paul and Joanne were married. *smh* I guess I just hope Angelina and Brad keep things status quo because nowadays, Hollywood marriages last for maybe 10 years tops.

And yeah, Paul and Joanne definitely didn’t get the bad press and hate that B&A received.

@ tmbg – it was Spencer Tracy & Katharine Hepburn who were not married. Talk about a scandalous love affair! They were together more than 25 years, until his death, but he never legally divorced his wife (although they were separated and he had not lived with her for years before he even met KH).
