Angelina Jolie teases ‘Maleficent’ in a new featurette: are you excited?

AJ3

We’re about five weeks away from the release of Maleficent. And you know what that means. That means the Brangeloonies are going to have a good month, I think. Angelina always goes all out to promote her films, and this time around, she’ll have the Disney machine backing her. She’s going to be everywhere. I wonder if she’ll get another Vogue cover? Or Vanity Fair? Probably one or the other.

Anyway, Disney has released a wonderful featurette for Maleficent. It features new (short) interviews with Angelina and with Elle Fanning. I’m reminded again by what Angelina said about Elle, who ran up to hug Angelina when they first met: “The first time we met each other, she ran across the hallway and hugged me and jumped on me…We joked later like it was like being attacked by a thousand cute, gorgeous bunnies.” I hope there’s a lot of Elle and Angelina bonding during the promotional trail. Anyway, here’s the featurette:

Do you think that Disney is worried about this film appealing to fans of the animated Sleeping Beauty? I do think it’s going to be difficult to pinpoint one demographic that will be the hands-down market for this film, but that being said… I hope it’s a hit. I’m pretty sure I’m going to see it in the theaters too.

Oh, and the Los Angeles Times has a new interview/article with and about Angelina and Unbroken. It looks like it’s never too early to campaign for that Oscar, I guess. You can read the piece here – it’s basically the first of many articles written about how long Unbroken has been gestating in Hollywood and how difficult it was for Angelina to get it made.

I saw the trailer on TV yesterday, I am SO ready to see this movie already! 🙂

  2. lisa2 says:

Yep I for one am totally excited.. Angie looks great. That portion with her talking had to be what 2 years ago. She has her Maleficent nails on. But she has such a great voice. So soothing and mellow. It must be unreal listening to her in person. Brad has a great voice too.

The premiere is a few weeks away. Can’t happen soon enough. Looking forward to the Real promotion to begin. Miss see her in an interview.

The LA Times article is less about Angie and more about Producer Matthew Baer and how long he wanted to get the film made. I guess he is the one campaigning for the Oscar. Angie doesn’t have many quotes in the article at all.

I know a lot of adult people that want to see the film. And kids too; and tweens.. that’s a good demographic in my book.

    • That article was really good. It took a LOT for that movie to be made–which is really surprising to me. Everyone likes WWII stories, especially true ones–especially when we still have veterans of the war that are in our own backyards. And I guess Bauer is really proud–I guess those producers/directors aren’t laughing at him anymore, especially if it is a hit.

      • lisa2 says:

yes he does seem like he feel vindicated in sticking to it. Which is a good thing. I’m sure there are many more amazing stories that don’t get financing because studies are doing the same old same old. I said it before it is a shame that ever superhero film gets green lit and stories of REAL HEROs Male and Female languish; because they are not big money makers. I rather see these kinds of stories than the fake hero ones.

Kids need to see these stories too. I saw that they are going to print a child friendly version of Unbroken too.

  3. Lady D says:

I enjoy fantasy movies best. Looking forward to this one for sure.

  4. Tatjana says:

    Not even a little bit.

  5. MonicaQ says:

I was in line opening day to see Captain America, I will be in line opening day to see this movie. And I *despised* Sleeping Beauty. And Cinderella. And Snow White…basically anyone NOT Mulan because Mulan basically saved China while being a bad arse the whole tiem.

I was seriously rooting for Malecifent the *entire* movie as a kid because dude, she had a cool raven and could TURN INTO A DRAGON and all princess did was have 124 words in the movie. Booooo. So major Yaaaaaaaaaassss on this movie.

    • Eve says:

Your whole comment: we should totally hang out.

I despised all the princesses and princes in almost every single fairty tale when I was a kid (well, I still do). They simply didn’t seem plausible to me and seeing that I could relate to the so called villains more than to the “heroes” made me uncomfortable. The utter perfection represented by the princesses in fairy tales made me feel awkward, to say the least.

I mean, I can rationalize it now, but imagine a 4-year-old feeling super weird while secretly rooting for the witches and the wolves, not being able to say she didn’t like the good guys out of fear of being seen as “evil” by her little friends, parents and relatives? For instance, I never had the guts to tell my mom or friends I f*cking hated Snow White and thought her stepmother was unfairly treated. And by god, how much did I hate those little piggies? The wolf was just hungry! And Little Red Ridinghood was just f*cking stupid. If someone older and wiser tells you NOT to take a dangerous, creepy shortcut, you don’t take the dangerous, creepy shortcut!

P.S.: I’m not kidding when I say I’m really thankful for Marvel’s The Incredible Hulk/Bruce Banner — I was about 6 years old when I first saw it and for the first time EVER I could connect with what was supposed to be the nice character in a story. He was a hero but he was flawed and I could related to that. His super powers came with a curse, he himself (Banner) had anger management issues. I was only disappointed I could not turn into the Hulk — and boy, I tried (I totally believed that intro from the series).

      • Eve! You need to watch Hunchback of Notre Dame (not the second one, it’s shite). I should be paid to endorse that movie, because I have been ever since Maleficent was announced. That is my FAVORITE Disney movie, ever. I still watch it. ‘Hellfire’ is probably one of the best sequences of a film I’ve ever seen, period.

      • Eve says:

Thanks for the tip, VG. I have always avoided Hunchback of Notre Dame because I feared it would make me too sad — as a teen/young adult, I mean. Because I had never heard of it when I was a kid (I was born in a poor, miserable town in the middles of nowhere where there wasn’t much to see or read).

      • @Eve
Without giving TOO MUCH away, it’s a lot different from the book, if that’s what you’re afraid of. Let’s just say the ‘nice’ characters don’t die.

      • Eve says:

        @ Virgilia:

Oh, I don’t mind “nice” characters die in movies (except when they’re animals — then I mind A LOT). It’s more about the overall humiliation he suffers and the way he’s treated for who he is and how he looks.

      • @Eve
I get it–there’s a vindication for Quasimodo, in the end. It’s talked about (two of the songs–listen to ‘Heaven’s Light’), but it’s not a huge focal point. Obviously there’s one scene where everything comes to a head….

I LOVED Frollo in this–I will admit to having a crush on Tony Jay JUST because of his voice.

    • lisa2 says:

My point is as a WHOLE the superhero film are 80% CGI.

and I don’t see that being the main topic of discussion on this site when those films are featured. But then Angie is not starring in them. So

  6. lower-case deb says:

Jack O’Connell looks surprisingly spoon-eatable when he crosses that finish line in the LA Times interview.

  7. Reece says:

    I LOVE the promo stills!

  8. Karen says:

I’m not a movie person so I won’t be watching but I hope it does well, it gets great reviews, and its makes tons of money. I’m sure all 3 will be the case.

  9. zut alors! says:

    Dear Disney,
Just shut up and take my money!

  10. Shiksa Goddess says:

I really don’t care for her but I do want to see this movie, it looks amazing. Yay Disney!

  11. Andrea1 says:

I can’t wait to see maleficent. Angie speaks eloquently

  12. db says:

The trailer looks delicious, really looking forward to seeing this movie

  13. daisy says:

My husband doesn’t like her a little bit but he saw the trailer at Captain America and said this looks really good. The problem is that we can’t take our little one and I think he’d be embarassed to go alone.

    • Ivy says:

I don’t have kids, I don’t want kids, and I just went to see the Lego movie on my own lol
You guys can do it, there’s no shame to have 😉

      • Eva says:

Yep, I was planning to go alone until my daughter saw the film’s trailer yesterday.

      • V4Real says:

Please a friend and I went to see “Finding Nemo” when it was originally released and not a kid in tow. This was also a male friend of mine.

My son has no desire to see this movie because he’s a boy. I’m hoping some of my residential girls from my part time job have a interest in seeing it so I can take them. If not, I will go see it along because my friends and BF ain’t having any part of this movie.

      • Camille (The Original) says:

@V4Real: lol, I have a son (who’s also a boy ;)), and he can’t wait to go and see this movie with me (he think its looks fun and ‘scary’). Even my hubby can’t wait to see it. Can’t wait!

    • Just say you like to see if the movie is appropriate for your kids, if you get asked. Or just tell them to shut up and mind their own business.

    • Smurphy says:

I saw Cap by myself last week, and Frozen last year…no kids and my husboss doesn’t share my taste in movies! Just do it 🙂

  14. Nikita says:

imagine, aniston having her wedding at the same weekend when the movie hits the theaters. would be totaly her style 😉 or at least a wedding/baby/split rumor planted in the tabs.

Cant wait to see the movie !!!! it looks really great and im sure it will be a hit.

  15. some bitch says:

    No.

  16. Maya says:

This movie will be a smashhit and will easily pass the 500 millions mark world wide.

I got my family members and my work colleagues very excited to see this movie. So from me side only there are already 25 people seeing it and most of them are not really fans of either Angie nor Disney. Trust me this will be one of the biggest hits of 2014.

Everything about this movie looks really good from Angie’s makeup, accent, supporting cast, music, script (written by award winning writer who wrote Lion King), the CGI, and the trailers are brilliantly put together. Hope it will deliver what it promises.

  17. Just showed my little sister the teaser (she’s 14)–she wants to go see it, and she hasn’t seen anything else before this. I’m someone who will unashamedly watch Disney movies until I’m 90 years old, so it’s not an issue of demographic, for me at least. This looks awesome–Sleeping Beauty was never my favorite, because I wasn’t too interested in the story–but I always thought Maleficent was so elegant and beautiful…..she’s the real story. Not Aurora. Aurora doesn’t even do anything interesting in the movie.

I can’t wait until she turns into the dragon!!!

And yes–it is good to be a Brangeloonie (well, the non-crazy/obssessive type).
    **********
And I can’t wait until ‘Unbroken’ comes out–the entire thing does keep reminding me of my neighbor, who’s about seven years younger than Louis Zamperini, who served in WWII, in Italy. When I go see it, I will be thinking about Mr. C.

    • lisa2 says:

My Grandmother is 94 years young. Good health and mind like a sharp tack

she remembers Louis’ story. I would so love to take her to see it.. I’m going to when it comes out.

  18. Kelly says:

Yes. But mostly because I love this woman, and damn, she looks good in black leather. She was made for playing naughty sexy temptresses.

    • V4Real says:

See now when Cecilia said Angie sounded and looked seductive those who shall not be named just said it was because she was not a fan of Angie. You seem like a fan and you said something similar and all is good. What gives? The BALLS on some people.

      • I think Maleficent is supposed to be seductive–well, I don’t know how to describe it. But she was beautiful, elegant, and cruel. I think there’s a difference between ‘sexy seductive’ and ‘enthralling seductive’–you know what I mean? As a child, I always Maleficent was beautiful and enthralling–she was the best part of Sleeping Beauty for me, the only good part about it–which is why I never watched it very often.

Maybe that’s what Cecilia meant (little help Cecilia 🙂 )—-more enthralling than sexy. I do find Angelina sexy, and she will probably bring that to the role, but not anything that I saw in the trailer would lead me to believe that she was going to play it sexy. But also–as an adult (ha!) I like films that straddle the line.

Hunchback of Notre Dame–my fave Disney movie EVER–straddled that line. I would let my kids watch that movie–they won’t understand everything, but it is a movie that I think they would watch when they’re older. Because it’s that good.

  19. phlyfiremama says:

This looks SO GOOD. I got chills watching the trailer. Maleficant was one of the scariest Disney villains when I was growing up, I CAN NOT wait to see this movie. Her voice!!! Her face!! I think I have a SERIOUS girl crush on La Jolie. I wonder if they are looking for a part time, willing to travel Licensed Acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist to add to their team?!

  20. babs says:

She’s slowly morphing into a brunette Robin Wright

  21. Eve says:

Counting the days to see this.

  22. a mascarada says:

Well Angelina and all involved will just have to be content with the MULTI MILLIONS of people that say YES.
